mid Journey has evolved a lot since I last made tutorials on it its ability and functionality have immensely increased over the past year and I recently got back into it in order to share some of my findings with you I'm going to show you how I used mid Journey's imp painting feature to create my profile picture and perfect all the details that the original prompt didn't get right I'm happy to say that this image actually made it to the top page of M's website which is my first image to feature there as a lot of you have experienced mid Journey can return some amazing images but there are often these annoying few details that it hasn't nailed and that can ruin a nearly perfect variation this could be things like hands which people always complain about in this video you'll learn how to fix all of these issues and as a bonus at the end if you stuck around I'll show you how to create some really cool variations of your image without changing the main detail similar to what you see in these four Images where my main character is suited with four different outfits for this image idea I was going for a look that depicts the merging of humans and Technology given the rise of AI we're experiencing or even more extreme examples like neuralink where they're literally installing computers in people's brains I also wanted to portray a little different Vision on what the future of robots may look like where they power the human skeleton instead of being fully artificial and made of non-organic matter after running and rrolling my initial prompt of times mid Journey produced me with this grid of images I like V3 a lot as I think it has quite a rebellious feel to it I decided to upscale and develop it further after upscaling I noticed a few parts of the core image I was not happy with this piece of tech sticking out from the side of the skull and the nose area were a couple of things I wanted to start by correcting I initially tried obtaining more variations of the image but the results were awful and in my opinion significantly deteriorated the quality of my original result you're better off finding a close to perfect initial image and correcting any issues using mid Journey's inpainting to you can access the inpainting to after upscaling an image from your initial grid you then see an option called vary region which is essentially mid Journeys in painting keep in mind this is currently available only in Discord and not on the website version of mid Journey but to be honest I actually prefer Discord and continue to work in it as it just makes developing images so much easier once you click on vary region the inpainting window will pop up which has a few simple buttons the rectangle select to allows you to select rectangular areas on the image to in paint or change the lasso select tool allows you to select any shape you see fit this is the select method I think you'll find yourself using the most often as it's very flexible you have the prompt input area which works the same way way as your usual prompts and your next and undo buttons first I'll use the rectangle select two to highlight the area I want to modify you just click and drag over the desired area however I need more Precision beyond what the rectangle select allows so opt in for the lasso select two instead this gives me the flexibility to avoid altering Parts I'm already happy with such as the eye socket of the skull for the prompt I'll enter a straightforward prompt I'll just type skull to repair the damaged side of the skull you don't need to over complicate The Prompt but feel free to experiment running the vary region will display a grid of images as usual version 3 has impressively reconstructed the side of the skull substituting it with a clean anatomically correct depiction so proceed with the scaling of this version with our first imperfect detail being fixed the new core image looks much better next I want to focus on the nasal aperture which seems odd the bottom part sticks out quite unnaturally and the inner surface on the far side of the nose is too visible implying an incorrect perspective I reapply the Imp painting process again selecting very region on this new upscaled core image When selecting the nose I'm paying a lot of attention on covering a sufficiently large area for Mid journey to be able to replace the nose as you can see I'm selecting the entire nasal area including the connection between it and the rest of the skull this careful selection is crucial for Mid journey to effectively reconstruct and integrate a more anatomically correct nose into the SC a two narrow selection might lead mid journey to generate less realistic variations so ensure to select sufficient area when imp painting your images I'm happy with variation one from the results as it corrects the anatomy and addresses my initial concerns perfectly again the outtake here is to ensure you are selecting a sufficiently large area in order to blend changes properly on a side note you've probably already spotted the quote I've included creativity is intelligence having fun when editing this video this quote came up and I thought I'd just leave it in there as it applies to what we're doing here on so many levels I'll leave you to imagine all the ways this quote is relevant but feel free to share in the comments what it makes you think about having fixed most of the details I'll shift my focus to the composition as I feel the camera is too close to the character in this image to fix this I'm going to use mid Journey's zoom out feature which is essentially its out painting feature to do that on the upscaled result in your Discord you notice the buttons for the zoom out options there are three options a 2X zoom out a 1.5x zoom out or a custom Zoom I'll choose the 1.5x for this case once once again I'm presented with four variations and you can see that mid Journey has now included a torso and shoulders since we are expanding the image mid Journey has had to get creative with different postures and body structures I think version two looks best as it retains the rebellious feel with its posture use the zoom out to to control the composition of your image by controlling the distance from the main object but keep in mind that this method is less effective with environments since there are are a lot more details to get right with an environment and a such more complexity leading to more errors I encourage you to get creative with the very Region 2 as it is very powerful in this iteration of the image I used it to clean up the cables that were sticking out behind this SC I literally only selected the relevant area and ran the in painting with no prompt whatsoever and it still produced these decent results I did have to reroll numerous times however in order to obtain a clean look so remember to always keep re-rolling until you get a variation that you like now for the bonus tip I mentioned at the beginning of this video I selected the bottom quarter of the image up until the neck and run a very simple prompt hoodie however as you can see from the output grid there was only one image with a hoodie and all three others were just changing the mechanical torso and shoulders of the character when he struggle to enforce changes I have always found it very powerful to incorporate commands like stylize and Chaos at the end of the very prompt these will allow mid journey to take more creative freedom and produce you with more radical results in this for grid comparison you can see how adding different combinations of stylize and chaos to your very prompt achieves different results top left where I had neither commands included we only only got one variation with a hoodie for comparison when I started introducing the commands styze and Chaos the changes became a lot more prominent for those of you that don't know what these commands do I have included the definitions of each styze ranges from 0 to a th000 and the higher levels of stylize allow mid journey to be more artistic with its variations chaos ranges from 0 to 100 and the higher levels of chaos allow mid journey to produces with more weird outside the box results as you can see from the image on the bottom right personally I think a combination of both commands works best a higher level of stylization somewhere between 500 and 1,000 and a lower level of chaos 25 or under experiment with different combinations as you can achieve some really amazing variations if the end results are not perfect you can always use the inpainting tool to correct any small imperfect details just like we did at the beginning if there are any topics you would like me to cover please leave a comment below as I'm always on the lookout for good tutorial ideas consider subscribing if you haven't already and I hope you found value in this video I'll see you in the next one
