hello everyone this is christy and welcome again to another live stream with me today is saturday and i know you probably have better things to do but thank you for joining me on this uh show i call it a show i don't know um but uh welcome everyone and uh thanks for joining me again of course and last week was my first one and it went a bit uh i think it went okay last week um but this week i wanted to just hang out and be more relaxed like last time i was a bit nervous so this time i just want to go over a few uh things to do with christmas themed graphics and animations and maybe overlays and and titles and things like that so please let me know if you can hear me fine if you can't just give me a shout because i'm uh i'm always looking at the meters there and they they seem to be reacting to my voice and i hope you can see me well um so yeah what i wanted to do today was just create some graphics with camtasia of course we want to look at camtasia and um like i always say you know i like to create my own graphics inside of camtasia rather than buying or importing other importing other graphics created by others so i just practiced all week with a bunch of graphics and animations and things and i want to show you how i'm i'm actually doing it so um thank you thank you xr control uh for letting me know um i'm glad you can hear me okay so if you have any questions during the stream uh feel free to just put them in the chat and of course um i will try and get to them you know try not to break the flow or nothing but uh i will uh be happy to answer your questions to do with camtasia and assets and maybe templates i don't know um whatever just uh you know just being relaxed here so again thanks for joining me so let's go um the first thing i wanted to show you was um just to say about camtasia when i create assets i try and keep everything inside of camtasia so let me just show you my screen here i hope you can see it okay so um as you know you go to various websites that sell assets pre-made assets and i actually did a bit of a round on on all of the massive big ones you know envato and all the other ones and none of them i don't seem to have any assets that work with camtasia or templates or things like that there are a couple ones one of course like last time we said techsmith has one and there's callout.com as well but other than that honestly i don't know any other website that creates them so anyway i like to create my own like i like to imagine them how they might work so the first one i want to show you is a little christmas tree animation that i come up with so i'm going to build it from scratch just so you can see quickly what you can do and of course we all know um i do like the media matte a lot you probably have heard that um many times so i am in camtasia here so just to show you a christmas tree you know you have a stylized kind of graphic you don't have to be very complicated of course if you want to import like photographic quality stuff you can do that remove their background with things like remove.bg and all that but here you go i'm just building a christmas tree right here i'm going to make more room we just use a triangle you know start with a triangle and like last time i have i have advised you to sort of try and design things in the center of the screen it just makes it easier to align stuff so here is a the top of a christmas tree ctrl c ctrl v make a copy of it just make it larger and ctrl c ctrl v and the third one and make that one even larger with control and shift there you go that is your christmas tree boom very easy let's create a bottom sort of thing here okay not too tall just like this and of course i want to group everything ctrl g and change the color to white or sort of white anyway and if the colors are you probably know about the camtasia quick property so you can see now because there's two elements in there that i could change the properties once they are grouped now you can go in here and say you know what i don't care for having these colors different so i can link those colors so let's give this one a label of color and then save so genealogy tv is there a way to create a foreground element that i can use repeatedly for example a lower third with my name on it so i don't have to rebuild it over again yes of course you can create an object and i'll show you this one actually this is a this is a graphic that we can reuse and you can actually create a finite animation finite graphic position it even where you want it to be and then you add it to the library and then you reuse it in your projects and because you add it with your canvas size it will stay in the same position like you've created it the first time so i'm gonna take this one for example just to answer your question uh geoneology tv so let's suppose that this is a graphic that i'm using uh like a christmas lower thirds so i'm going i'm gonna zoom in right here and i'm gonna make a couple of copies of this make a smaller one like that and make a smaller one like this you know so i've got these christmas trees in the corner here i'm going to just change the opacity just to give them a little more variation like that you know nice and cute christmas trees so let's suppose that i want to add a little sort of a bar um like this on the bottom here and this is going to be my lower thirds right so i'm going to put my text on this of course it is a little bit it needs to be in the back so just pull that track down there and you know what let's make these trees green let's go ecological today so i'm gonna just select all of them and kind of make them three shades of green perhaps just to you just to give you a little bit of a notion of what this looks like so that's a different kind of green here we go and okay i'm not click i'm not crazy about the opacity anymore so let's just put them all back up like that and this one needs to be down there so okay three trees like that this is where your text goes and you know you wanna you wanna have a text field of course for the text where your name is or whatever text you wanna put on the lower thirds so just make this taller like that and i'm gonna go to annotations use a text field uh just a simple text here you go just drag that in there it's white by default i'm gonna change the color on the right here so that's my text so let's just give an example so i'm just going to put here that's my name so let's suppose you want to have this on your lower thirds and let's suppose you want a second line so i'm just going to make this smaller i'm going to make my name bold align it to the left so it's important to set up everything where you want it to be in the final kind of graphic final animation the state where you want it to be on the screen so that's one way to think about it so i'm just going to make a copy of this and it's a duplicate here i'm going to take the bold off and this is going to be like i don't know whatever you want to put in your secondary line of text and usually that's smaller so instead of 48 pixels i'm gonna put like 35 like this so let's suppose this is my lower third just make everything the size you want it to be if you need a little more room and there you go like that so that's my lower third right there okay so now if i want to turn this into a lower third that i can reuse um the the best thing to do is really okay i'm not gonna go over animating this and kind of how to come in come into the screen and bring it back and and take it out i'm just going to do a select all and ctrl g to group it so that's one single element right now so you can watch in the right side where you see the quick properties that's where you can customize all the stuff even after you add it to your library even after you you know bring it back into another project these properties if you're using camtasia 2021 these are in there for you to change you can change the name of you know the whoever's on the lower thirds so uh let's suppose that i want to have this on the screen for five seconds and then i'm gonna bring it in and out so let's suppose about eight seconds in total so now it's on the screen i'm gonna go here in this group shift and a custom animation that is the state where it's on the screen go back to the first keyframe and use the arrow keys and just pull it out of the screen like this all right so that will be my coming in animation here you go animate this boom the lower thirds is on the screen and it stays there for about five seconds and then i'm coming back here just about the end shifting a again and take it out of the screen again so that's my animation that's my lower thirds if i animate the whole thing now look it comes in on the screen and remember you can change the text you can change the color of the trees you have all these properties in here because in a group they're on there so you can change the name whatever and then it is uh sit staying there on the screen for five seconds and then going out again all right so that's the one that's the one part so now you add this to your library right click add to library choose which library you want to put it in so maybe you create a library in advance for all your lower thirds and elements whatever branding names so let's call it uh christmas trees lower thirds all right so use canvas size that's important because when you then bring this back into a new project from your library the canvas size is the thing that you know tells everything where it's it is because now if you can see it down here it's placed on the bottom left if i use visible size it's going to just save it with the boundaries of the object but if i save it with the canvas size next time i want to use this you just drag it from your library onto the timeline and it knows exactly where to place it so i'm just going to say ok here and now check this out i'm deleting it so i'm doing a new project no saving on this one so blank new project so i'm just going to show you just for demonstration i am going to bring in a video or a picture i'm just going to bring a picture in here in my media let's suppose that's a video clip or something so i'm going to bring this on it's a graphic it's just doing this sitting there doing nothing in fact i may have a different one just a more interesting one that g11 there who's my brother by the way welcome g11 thanks for joining and he has designed this in 3d i hope i know where i put that now oh that is funny i forgot where i put it oh dear okay here we go yep i have lost it anyway that's not the point we'll just use this graphic by uh like here or maybe i'll just use a video just a regular video i'm sorry i i just don't know where i put that file i just have all over the place anyway so i'm just gonna use a video here and let's suppose it's just a basic office video here we go just bring the video in there put it in here this one i got it from pixels by the way so this is a video right here brand new project maybe it's a screen recording or some camera footage you know this is the video and look i go to library now and i have my christmas trees lower thirds check this out all i have to do is just pull this on the timeline and make sure it's a you know on a track that is above your videos put it on the timeline right there and you don't see it now but okay the problem is this my video clip has changed my canvas size so i'm going to go to project because this video apparently it's a 720p it's not a full hd and look what happens if i zoom out you see this frame here this frame is my lower thirds and this frame is the video so because the video is smaller i did not know it was a 720p i have to change my project settings back to hd like so so now of course i'm going to take my video clip and scale it up to fill the screen it's a different aspect like i think it's 16 by 10 but anyway that's my video right there and look what happens now the video is playing and where did i put my where's my christmas trees is my christmas trees yo place it down here oh it's gone all the way okay well that is awkward what happened they are there you know what let me delete this video for a minute hmm wow i'm demonstrating something and it breaks down well that's what happened to my trees oh it was in the group there they are they're in the group oh they're all the way out there hmm i wonder why that is did i have my animations no well that's embarrassing now you know what new project here we go library trees just place the trees on the canvas well camtasia has a bug i'm just gonna ungroup these things for a second here they are what happened it's lost the uh i think it's lost the coordinates of everything yeah there is there seems to be a bug in camtasia recently that you it it doesn't know what happens with groups sometimes and just to illustrate this this is similar to if i go in my other library where i have all my assets for my videos check this out i have my lower thirds this one here so this is my lower thirds i'm actually going to place it on my timeline in here so check this out this is why graphics is lower thirds and this is my project it's full hd as you can see project setting full hd and the the asset i added in my library is lower thirds but look i place it on my canvas and you can see it's not full hd although that's what i saved so if i play it you just see a little corner down there all every time i use this asset right click and i have to say resize group to canvas size boom and now i see the whole asset so what i was trying to show you there with the christmas trees this is the same look the animation is running the text is on there it shows up and then it changes to a subscribe button in a second or two there you go and then it disappears so this is the asset that i use in all my videos now i don't know what happened to those christmas trees by the way but it seems like they've gone out of the screen for some reason and they got saved in the library in the wrong geometry kind of thing because when you group something look i group it there and camtasia has created a group and you see the boundaries of the group there so the the thing is i'm animating that but it doesn't know the boundaries it doesn't remember the boundaries of the canvas for some reason so i am right clicking and saying resize group to canvas size now you can see the space the canvas inside of that group has now expanded to fill my whole screen so i can try and animate this thing again let me just see it because i mean you know this is one of those things camtasia is really buggy with groups sometimes so i'm bringing this on the screen again just animating the whole thing and pushing it out of the screen there and now it's coming in there you go it is working you're all seeing this i mean come on i'm not crazy here and go back out push this one out again it's gone out of the screen and now i think what i need to do is group it again with itself right click add to library and i'm going to choose my winter library again and i'm just going to call this christmas trees lower thirds too okay again i'm using canvas size click ok it is there and now you watch you see the preview there in the library the preview is correct and i think that's what i forgot to do i added the group to the library with an animation on it so i think if you want that animation to be part of the final asset that goes in your library you need to group the whole thing with itself again so that's what you know so now i am very confident if i press new and create a new project here so let's do what i want it to do and i go to the library and i bring the slower thirds in here like this boom and press play come on it's working i was gonna be confused there now so there you go um so the thing is with grouping i think if you try and save those as assets to your library make sure that you also make another group another final group with your final asset just if you have any animation like bringing the stuff in and out before you add it to library make another group because what happens here with camtasia this is i'm hoping they improve this later but the thing is when you put something in a group it creates a canvas inside of that group just like the main canvas but it only restricts it to that point so if you put a video in a group let me illustrate this because this is one of those things where you're losing quality of your video if you play with groups like this so check this out this video i have here the you know my lower thirds is playing on top of it it's very nice and the thing is if i if i uh put this scale this group this down here in a in a make it small like this i mean this look if i if i if i come close here this video is quite high quality but because it's hd but if i make this clip small and group it with itself let me just make it quite small group it it is now in a group watch this if i scale this up look at the quality of this clip now you see what happens here the reason this happens is that camtasia just creates a fake canvas inside of the group and the canvas has the size of the group so if i put a full hd video inside of that group um and and then i make this the group small then my video it doesn't matter that it's hd anymore because it will reduce the resolution of that clip and watch you know i mean look at this clip this is garbage this is like the 90s dial up or whatever because um because the that group itself breaks the quality so if i go out and zoom in and now ungroup this watch watch the quality of this video again it's it's boom it's restored to full quality so if you're doing this in camtasia and you're scaling down videos in groups make sure that you are aware of this limitation and make sure you you don't need to scale those videos back up because then you're going to have this horrible quality anyway so that's that's the mystery of the um that's the mystery of the lower thirds inside the group so i mean genealogy tv i hope i've answered your question uh with a little bit of an adventure there but this is kind of how you do it and now look if i brought this into a new project now all i have to do to change the name is click on this and just say uh first last name in here boom and now my lower third has changed the name it's kept the font and the colors and everything but has changed the name and you know change the uh whatever um the the position whatever the the second thing is there so that is how you create assets and just uh just to anticipate your next question um about uh the grouping is control g by the way control g groups control u and groups so just to anticipate your another question is what if you have a project that you are happy with maybe you're creating various videos that are the same structure you've got an intro a title lower thirds coming in when you're on the screen and then you go to a tutorial at some point and at the end you have an intro and outro uh you know like subscribe whatever so all of this montage that you're using maybe repeatedly you want to save it so you don't have to rebuild it all the time so this is the way to do it you have your lower thirds and let's suppose this clip here this video is the part of the video that you're always replacing so when you do that then you right click on this video and say well i want to use this for a new project later so you right click on this and say convert to placeholder so what this does is it deletes that video and converts it to a placeholder you can drop stuff in so if you've used camtasia before and you have used it from a template you may have seen these kind of green teal sort of background things and they called placeholders so what this does is let's suppose i want to do more so i've got my intro my lower thirds on the left and at some point let me make this as short as here at some point you want to say okay i've got my main video content so make a copy of this and paste it and let's suppose this is my main video portion right in my projects typically and then i want to finish my videos usually so i'm just going to go to my library here and i usually finish my videos with a like maybe a an ending video like an end still right here so i'm just gonna pull that in here so that's my please subscribe and thanks for watching portion that goes at the end of my clips on youtube that's 20 seconds long and that's that's that's the kind of the layout of my project so maybe i also want to have like a cover um cover and uncover uh transition right here so this is it so i'm gonna play this you know boom boom that's my thanks for watching and it reveals that in here all right so that's kind of the usual structure of my project so now you say okay i don't want to do this every single time all i want to do is just bring in this project template and create my project so that's that's that's when you create it as a template so here you go you go to file you go save project as template and you click save so let me just hide my screen for just a second here okay so i'm i'm i'm giving it a template name so let's call it uh usual project that's very creative so i'm gonna click ok and now it says the template's been saved and then you say select file new project from template to create a new project from a template i don't want to show this again because i know this already click ok and now i'm going to just make a new project here i don't want to save that no so now i want to go to file a new project from templar you see it right here on the top left and i i select my template usual project and watch what happens i click on this template i create new and it's loading that template whatever and now you can see the layout that i created it's got my lower thirds it's got my placeholders my final transition it's all in place and then my final clip right there so this is kind of the layout so now i want to go and say okay i'm bringing my videos in so i'm just going to bring in a new video here just as an example this is a graphic and look what happens i say well okay this is my intro video where i'm maybe saying hello welcome whatever let's suppose that's the text i'm talking about click on this video in the media bin and just drag it on top of the placeholder right there you notice the placeholder turns green so it's got this green outline and just drop it in there and now there's a question there i don't i don't know if you see it i hope it's not too small but when that happens it says well you know the the clip you're trying to place in this placeholder is either too long or too short what do you want to do because the container the placeholder is only this long okay so you kind say um do i ripple replace which means it puts it in that placeholder and then pushes everything backwards you know pushes everything away so it doesn't cut or you know lose the um other elements that are going after it or i can do it replace from start and just start from the start of the placeholder and goes as far as it fits so i'm just gonna do a ripple replace let's see what happens click on this and you notice now my clip has pushed everything back right but only on that track so you can see my 3d transition there right here it was because it's on the same track it does it so when you organize your templates you need to have the video track in a single place and then whatever assets okay nobody's saying you know it's not a problem if you need to move these back like you know so i'm bringing out a video here i'm just typing bringing out of video and i say okay i have another placeholder fine i'm just going to click on this and drag it on top of the placeholder and i'm answering the same question what do you want to do ripple replace which means if this clip is longer than the placeholder just push everything back okay on that track so click on this boom and you see now everything you know everything's gone back way back and that's my transition here and you know my transition actually should be between the clips right there there's a little bit of room here and now you know look this video the transition and then the second clip so you can see how convenient it is to create templates like this from whatever elements you're using and just reuse the whole thing so okay that was the answer of that question i'm gonna just say no on this and i'm just gonna go back to my winter library and pull in that lower thirds because i want to get my trees back so i'm going to ungroup this control u and lose all the transition the animation bring all the stuff back in and i'm going to just lose all the stuff that i did and keep the trees so just delete that and delete that okay so that was a that was a cool transition thank you g11 yes that was a cool transition i built that last week so one use of the groups is actually to allow you to resize stuff and move it around and rotate check this one check this out i've got these three trees right here these three three three trees say that three times and the uh the the the trees are like this if i select all three of them and i want to rotate look each one each one rotates individually never mind this rotation weird thing right but if i want to rotate them as a unit so they keep the position relative for uh to each other hello chris nice of you to join us um so this is this is you know they're moving like this erratically which i hate so i'm going to just undo this quite a lot of times what did i do here okay i'm going to just say zero all right so if i want to rotate these trees all together i select all of them group them all right so select group control g and now look i i i'm able to rotate them and they're not losing their position anymore to a relative to each other right so this is one trick that i use when i need to resize stuff i temporarily group it and then i ungroup it and it becomes you know again individual objects and just to tell you look this is the same problem here with the objects that it changes the quality the resolution although those items are actually in in the group they're vector they're supposed to be vector anyway so that's that's the thing uh where you're seeing this quality loss you just ungroup the thing boom and if you zoom in look you're back to a very crisp graphic again hello kind of cool nice of you to join us let me just have a look in the chat here because i don't want to miss any questions uh jamie it's okay it happens to all of us yes i know and i dread these moments when i'm trying to demonstrate something and although i did test these things before the live stream somehow managed to mess it up during the live stream so there you go but i mean you know just trying to figure it out and recover after that that's a that's a good one [Music] so anyone else has any questions let me see uh xr control says has everyone updated to the latest camtasia version what's the latest version the latest version is 21 0 13. i have not joined i have not updated that because um 12 has been very unstable for me and i think it's something to do with my graphics card or whatever it just jumbles the whole timeline when it gets a longer project um it just gobbles it up something to do with the video drivers to me the most stable has been 2105 so far i don't know i'm hoping they are they're working on some stuff to do with performance and maybe maybe things are going to get better i haven't tested 13 but maybe you know try it try and see it um what i do advise you and this is a pro tip i save all of the installation copies of camtasia and i and i saved them on my hard drive i have them in a backup with the version number so then let's say i go and update to 13 it it's messed up i can always go back and install it and put 20 whatever version was more stable for me back and um when you do that by the way it should not mess up your libraries and your stuff it just messes up your settings by default just go all the settings but libraries seem to survive unless you're deleting them of course so um okay so let me just do this animation here because that's what i was trying to do with these uh these christmas trees so here's a nice animation that i i wanted to do a nice christmas title so you've got these trees and what i want to do is i want them to sort of wave in the wind right so one thing is um i want him to kind of wave fast and then kind of slow down so i'm gonna do the first one i'm just gonna zoom in on the timeline here and delete all the blank tracks so i've got three tracks in here so one one one of the animations just shift and a on the first one that's the one on the left and i'm gonna just rotate this by let's say 15 degrees and watch what happens because camtasia will rotate this from the center boom so that's obviously not very good so what i advise you to do just undo this just i advise you to do is because if you need an object to rotate around a specific point in your object let's say i want it to wave from the bottom here on the trunk right because that's that's what the trees go so what i do is i go to annotations and i just draw an arrow or a line or something and use it as a as an axis for reference right so you you just do an axis like this a line like that okay so what what happens now is that if you place that here and let me just make a couple of copies of this for every three i'm very grateful for all the snapping because that helps you these arrows i'm not gonna have them in the final project obviously but what i what they are good for is ctrl g to group them all and lock this layer by locking it with the lock here so i can't touch it and move it around so what this does is and by the way i'm going to create an asset in my buy me a coffee account you can go and probably get it or buy it from there and i'm gonna create a series of grids because camtasia doesn't have grids it doesn't have guides or grids or alignment grids or any kind of help helpers like that even rulers it doesn't have any so when you need to align stuff and the the most often i have problem with this is when i try and create sort of like bullet points or something on the screen like multiple texts that appear at different times like bullet points i guess they get really annoying to align because they do snap horizontally but vertically there's no distancing functions there's no alignment there's no nothing you know just just eyeball the whole thing which is not really great so when i look at the video later i go that should have been a bit higher maybe the distance between them is not the same i'm a little bit of an ocd so the thing is i have created i'm not going to show you those i've created a bunch of grids that you will be able to just pull from your library onto your project lock the track put it all the way to the top so you can see it and then align stuff to it and the nice thing is that even if you have like a grid designed on screen it although it's locked or although it's in a group it will still snap objects to it so that's very nice at least that's a nice positive thing so anyway this is my tree i created a little animation here so i'm going to rotate this but watch this when i rotate this 15 degrees watch the bottom of the trunk there so just uh 15 degrees boom the trunks gone but but now i can bring it back into the line so what what actually happens is look this tree is waving like there maybe 15 is a little much let's say nine something weird so you see again it's from the center so bring it back down here like this okay so now that's one of the animations and another one in here and let's put positive 9 all right sorry negative 9 because the first one was positive all right and again make sure you bring it back into the line and if you want to have a horizontal grid line that's fine you can do that too so now my tree is gonna wave look it's waving in the wind and because of the easing it kind of gives it a nice natural movement make a little bit of room between the two because it needs to kind of stay there for a second all right so now i'm just going to copy these two and paste them a couple of times just make sure there's enough room from the last animation to the next one so that because when you paste an animation or multiple animations on a media clip it pastes it backwards from the play uh playhead so right now if i want to paste these in here i have to put place the playhead with enough room behind it so they both fit so i'm going here paste you see they paste behind the playhead of course if they're too far away i'm just gonna go and adjust this so now what i'm doing is the animation is gonna be not nine anymore i wanna do like a seven right so go back in here in the right side and the z axis is seven and just put it back to the axis and the same one let's call that one a five minus five so it's kind of slowing down yeah that's you'll see what i'm getting at and um actually you know what let me make the second one an eight all right just a minus eight so it's kind of slowing down it's not going so far away all the time so look look at this it's going back and forth and back and maybe you know what i'm just gonna do another one so another one right here like that so this time it's going to be even less so this one was what was that it was 5. let's make this one a 3. and don't forget to bring it back to the axis and let's make this one a one let's make this one a zero i'm just gonna make that zero and just make it stop vertically here you go all right so let me see if i've achieved my you know it's kind of waving and waving and slowing down again of course it's not doing so much anymore and then it stops all right so that's one part of the animation just let me save this because if it um if it crashes on me i am lost all right here we go so i've saved my project um all right so now this is cool um i want to copy these animations now to the other trees all right so i'm going to copy select all of them with the shift key and select the second tree now again don't forget you need plenty of room behind the playhead so paste that in there and you go it has messed it up because the position is the same but watch this i don't know if you knew about the global animation but you see now this this tree is larger but it you know it kind of plays in the same place so except for the first position so if i want to move that tree now somewhere else but not change every single point in the animation because it's annoying it's too time consuming all i have to do is select the clip and go to the top right here and turn on this thing it's called global animation i think that's what it's called this little icon here it says the property changes affect all animations so that means now look all of these dots these keyframes are highlighted and means that whatever i'm doing with this object is going to affect all of them so all i have to do is just let me lock the top one okay so this one look i'm putting it back in place where it should be right there okay and now look it's waving in place another way to achieve this by the way would have been to group the clip group the clip move it and then ungroup it that's even sometimes faster and we'll do that on the next one by the way so now turn off this thing because if you forget to turn this off it's going to mess with your stuff you don't know whenever you change something it's going to change it for all of them so we're going to go back to that now okay the first time is going to be have a problem because the first keyframe on this was in the right place so i'm just going to place myself in there and just bring it back to where it should be so that's the first position watch this both trees are now waving in the wind so to speak okay so i'm just gonna do the same on the third one but then i'm going to show you how we can make that animation out of phase because it's very annoying in nature they do not move at the same time trees of course so that's the third one so instead of using that global animation now just select this group it you can see it and i'm gonna just move it all back in place and down right there at any time if you have any questions let me know in the comments in the in the chat there i'm not talking by myself i hope i hope it's still live yes okay i have this anxiety like i'm talking to myself anyway so um i move the object ungroup it again boom it's now should wave in place there you go that's nice except for the first one of course because that's the one that's off i'm gonna go back to the first one and just bring the object back in here like that i'm hoping it's in the right place so now they all should wave nicely i've replicated those animations and now they're all waving nicely in there okay all right so now here's the cool cool thing i'm gonna actually make move them out of phase now so i'm just gonna give them a little more space just expand these clips and let me just take the middle one and just shift the animations forward like this and then shift the other one maybe backwards a bit like this just enough for them to kind of go look they're getting out of phase now right so they're starting here like this and they're slowing down at different times so that's quite cool one thing i don't like though is i think the animations are a little slow for what i want to do so with all the animation selected just pull the pull the end of one of them and look they're all becoming shorter they will retain the sort of movement but they will be faster so i'm just going to pull them closer together like this okay so now you will see that one of the trees is actually going to move faster okay inverting the animation j11 yes um like i did one now just move it off the face so they will be in the separate in a separate position always relative to each other but you can also go into each one of them and kind of change the transformation here so if i go in this keyframe go to the properties instead of 9 i can do -9 but it is a little bit of a manual process another thing you can do though and i think that's gonna let me just show you this one so let's suppose that the middle tree which is the big one um i want it to move to shift the invert the animation one thing you could do is just group it with itself and go here and along the y-axis turn it 180 degrees so now you see it's gone shift the other way and ungroup it of course ctrl u and now that tree is actually moving off face but you notice it's doing it from the top so it's it's not but it's a quick way to kind of reverse revert everything and then you go back and adjust the the alignment i guess you could do it in a number of ways um i mean i wish camtasia had a little bit of uh thing from after effects which after effects has that expression builder thing where you can type a little bit of code and something starts wiggling or it does something programmatically repeatedly until stopped okay so that is a nice thing to you can do and also you got diminishing numbers and stuff so anyway these are my trees they're waving there i'm not happy because they're too slow so i'm just going to quickly make all the animations very very short because i wanted to achieve something else in here with this animation i'm hoping it i'm hoping i'm not messing it up now let's see okay it's it's kind of going all right let's suppose that's what i wanted to do it's almost close so i'm gonna select everything now and group them and watch what happens here you see in the quick properties now they're all the colors are available for me to kind of change and because these are christmas trees you know what i want them to be white because i want to do a title and i'm just going to change all the colors to something that's kind of white and it changes everything all right so all the colors that are the same it changes them so now i've got three nice trees just independently i don't know if you're if you like it or not but anyway that's my animation right there so now here comes the nice cool part i'm gonna delete these arrows because i don't need them anymore boom they're gone and now the animation is this look i'm gonna just go at the top here and right here at the beginning i'm going to add an animation and i'm going to make this animation quite fast and the trees i want to i want them to stop sort of here so in the middle but sort of top here like this and what i want them to do is come from the top from outside the screen so again i'm going to make this small and just push them all out of screen like this okay so they're falling from the top of the scene like this so that's quite fast but i don't want it to kind of stop like this what i want to do is right click on this animation and change the easing to bounce or spring one of them anyway no it's it has to be spring here we go spring and now that's too fast okay not so fast okay so they're falling they're falling from the sky and the point where i want the animation to stop is maybe somewhere here i just want to pull these animations back so that they move like they're falling off the uh falling off the top and sort of being bounced around by the falling movement if you know what i mean i just try to give them a little bit of physics there so let's see yeah that one that one is not realistic at all just make these longer okay maybe over yeah that's probably just put it forward a bit maybe even more so there at some point they're going to settle in if you spend a lot of time with this you can probably make it even more realistic but anyway so this is the trees falling off and now i'm going to just add a little nice title just go to the annotations i'm gonna just use a simple text right here i'm just gonna make it um christmas uh you know what i'm gonna actually build a nice title for this and this is the second part where i'm building a nice christmasy title so the christmasy title is this i'm gonna just yes i should i should stay with that christmas uh okay just make it make it sort of large align it in the middle there okay so here's here's the cool part so i want to do a nice red ribbon okay so um the way to do this is again you could design this in a separate program or you could build it in here we're using the um using the the graphics available in in camtasia i'm just going to build it here real quick and just make a red sort of ribbon right there just drag that in there like that and put it at the bottom of the stack and again i can align things all right let's make this bold and zoom in so now here's a cool one uh make sure the top and the bottom align because i don't want it going out of my frame and make this kind of wide like this use ctrl key to just resize both edges like this so that would be a text in there and another thing i want to do is copy this and paste it and just move it down and make it short like this and also okay i'm going to go and use another shape let's activate all the shapes and use a triangle and rotate that 190 degrees and then sorry minus 90. here we go and place it there and then scale it up using the control key and then apply of course my favorite effect media matte to it here you go but invert that um okay group that actually should have stretched that all the way there and all the way there one tip i have with the grouping in camtasia is that if you have a group and there are some shapes inside of some objects if they are aligned to the end of the group like right here you see it right here i hope you see it from because i'm in the way maybe if you align something here look when you pull it out and it kind of shows you that yellow line that is actually something called like an anchor line to the end of the group which means if i discover later that this is my group with the shapes inside of it if i discover later that i need these to stay longer on the screen i just go here and expand the group and watch what happens if i go in the group you see both of them have oh you can't see it both of them have expanded past with with the group they've gone they've gone with the group so that is a nice way to create graphics that you can reuse of course and if you need them to be on the screen longer or shorter as long as they're in a group and they're anchored to the end of the group you can pull them out and pull them away shorten them and they will stick to that end of the group but if i was putting this in here like this so it's not at the end of the group watch what happens if i take this group now and make it really long go back in the group you see now only the first one has moved the second one's remained short so that's one thing to note if i wanna if i anchor it right here it's gonna actually expand with my group so that's one tip i have discovered through experience because you you um they don't really tell you these things in um in the documentations to be honest and okay so that's my ribbon right there i'm gonna make this one actually less you know darker red maybe just like this maybe okay so just pull it up like that and i'm gonna make a copy of this maybe but before i do that maybe i can try and just go in this group and create another one annotation use a white one like this you notice what camtasia did it just crops everything to that group now so that's one of the things i like and i don't like equally because it depends on when or if i need that to be there or not so i'm trying to do a lot a nice little a nice little ribbon sort of thing there okay so i'm going to just use another one there just bear with me i'm i know what i'm getting at i'm just i'm just creating a mask for that object at the bottom there so here we go medium at right there and this one should be sort of like a darker lighter red but not too dark maybe that's enough just don't overthink here we go like that possibly i think we're i think we're good on this one now so group that and then i've got those two and there you go so that's the end of my ribbon there you can move it sideways ctrl c ctrl v to paste and i'm going to just move that in here and rotate it 180 degrees boom boom boom and just place it right there and put it underneath and just put it back in place okay here you go that's a nice little graphic and of course i want things to stay together so what i want to do is i want to just group these two things and these two flaps uh together so select all of them ctrl g boom like that so you've got an asset you can reuse i'm just going to place that in here and there you go i've got a nice little title so what happens now is this the these trees are just falling off like that um and this thing i want to reveal this in a nice and interesting way so another thing i wanted to show you today was the um camtasia you know they have these fills that are gradient but they're really not very helpful because if i have this graphic here look i have this graphic and i want to make it i don't know purple doesn't matter what color i do when i change the fill from solid to gradient the only direction the gradient works is vertically i can you know if i rotate my object look the gradient always stays vertical and that's the only type of gradient you have the normal straight line gradient i mean that's not very helpful so what i've done is i've created my own gradients check this out this is in zera but you can do them in affinity designer or any other program i may make a pack of these um so you see i've got a circle that's got a white and sort of fades out and it doesn't matter if it's white because you can use this as a an acid to create different lighting conditions for your objects and make them fade out or in in different types so that is a white to black gradient graphic that i created here i exported that to my drive to my hard disk before i joined this join live live session okay so what i'm what i wanted to show you is if i go on to my project folder and i bring that in here let's bring the circle one i'm gonna bring the square with the circle just in the media bit so watch what happens this is a cool this is one of those gradients that camtasia honestly should have and you can use this to create different types of backgrounds like if i wanted a nice glow sort of dark green background for example all i have to do is just apply the either the tint effect or the colorize effect both would work if i go to the visual effects and go colorize you just drag that in here of course it's green by default but you can just use some sort of green darker green like that which sometimes you know this one is not the best so okay the one i like best i'm just going to remove this i do actually like the color tint because that gives you two colors to play with and i'm going to just scale this all the way there like that and let's make the center uh which is the red one now let's make that a kind of a green and let's make the outer one a darker green perhaps like this that's pretty christmassy i would say and let's move that to the bottom layer like so so things are looking much nicer now another way i can use this is to reveal that ribbon thing so i'm going to click on this ribbon and before i do anything i am going to add a drop shadow visual effect drop shadow to my red ribbon you know what i'm going to right click on this group and rename it and call it red rib bun okay before i lose it though i'm going to show you um another cool trick to reveal that nicely i'm just gonna put that drop shadow really far away and make it a bit darker and maybe make a blurrier okay just just make it pop okay you can do the same for those trees by the way if you want and don't forget to save because kempty just crashed on me a lot today for some reason i don't know so now this red ribbon is cool but i want to bring it in in a nice way so you can use the same graphic here look this graphic i can just push it all the way so it's covering the thing make sure you resize it to fit the whole area like that and now the effect i want to apply on this is the visual effect again media matte but not with alpha i'm going to use the light luminosity like this or the luminosity invert so the luminosity actually look what it does if i just you see as i'm making it smaller the object kind of fades out so what what you want to do is bring it out zoom out if you need to bring it out as large as you want until you're seeing your object properly and then do an animation push it back on that square image and just scale the object down scale it way down control and mouse wheel until just just put it in the middle somehow and and actually you know you can actually fade it out too so at the moment you can't see anything but now when i animate the whole thing just appears because of that fade gradient circle with the luminosity it controls the intensity of the color in the objects it applies to so i'm happy with my title now select the title and the revealing graphic and group it like this um thank you for morocco i don't know if i'm reading the name right but thanks for joining um and let me know if you have any questions by the way i'm just rambling on here nobody's saying anything okay and now i'm happy with this i'm going to group this hole together with my trees and you know what i'm not going to group my background i'm just going to leave the background out of it group this again and now i'm going to add this to library christmas title there you have it that's a nice title in here so now i can reuse this falling trees and a christmas title in there and the final thing i want to do it's been an hour i know it's a long it's a long live stream let me know if you're bored i hope i'm not alone anymore nobody's left ah i'm so insecure i don't know but anyway let me show you another one and i'm done okay another one i wanted to add was a little bit of snowflakes so this i'm gonna show you now phased animation like with the trees you know we animated them and we moved them out of phase this is kind of similar but watch this i have designed a nice snowflake you can see it right here so you can design you know you can design any snowflakes this is an affinity designer by the way and you can make different shapes different models of course snowflakes are different and varied and i exported this as a png with alpha which means it's got transparency and you can put it on top of other objects and you can see through it so what i want to do with with this now is i'm just going to animate the whole thing down here and this is let's go back to camtasia thank you genealogy tv and i'm going to bring that snowflake in here just let me show you what i'm doing with it now so it is a graphic that it's a png just put in the in the thing here so this is my snowflake okay i'm just going to place this on the canvas right there it's kind of large so you may want to zoom out for this part so what i want to do is i want to have an animation with these snowflakes they're falling off from the top and disappearing so obviously i'm going to move it from the top and and to the bottom it's a little large so i'm just going to make it smaller like this and you want to have a parallax so i'm going to show you a little bit of a parallax effect so if you want to create these nice graphics and you know by the way if you if you want to do these and resell them yeah you know we might add something to these online libraries that sell stuff and the way to do this is look you decide first of all the most important thing is you decide how long the animation is going to be and just as a starting point i'm just going to place a marker here this is my starting point right there and this snowflake i want to animate it from top to bottom so again keep it in the middle for the first time so i'm going to place it right there at the top outside of the scene i hope you can see it it's right there and i'm going to go at some point down here and shift and a to add an animation to it right there and in this animation i'm going to just shift and arrow key and just use it all the way down there so it is outside of the scene again so watch what happens this is gonna fast let me just make it longer maybe i don't know seven seconds or something okay it may be a bit fast still so i'm going to make it even longer like this so here you go it's falling down turning on and going there at the same time at the end of this i want to rotate it so i'm going to rotate it about 360 degrees let's have a full circle right so let's see now it's falling but it's rotating you see that's so these are the building blocks if you think about it when you're creating an animation you have to think about what is happening in the start and the finish point and how long it takes all right so this flag now is falling down and rotating that's fine so i'm going to shorten this now this clip actually make sure that it actually starts and stops right there with the animation start and stop here we go so it's falling down so now that's the nice part now i want to replicate this and make more snowflakes okay so that is the first first first step just replicate this layer this object copy and just go back in here and paste so what you want to do is you want to first align them all and turn on the global animation that i mentioned before and because we don't want both of them to spin in the same position right so what i want to do is i want to move this away to about here okay uh because i want them to be all like that but also what i want to do is move them out of phase so the second one kind of come in comes in later so you decide of a small interval between the first and the second and the third flake and so on so and every time you go about the same distance paste it and move it you can see me moving it on the top there right so the third snowflakes come in comes in later and also in a different position before i continue though i just forgot to mention you want to right click on the animation and turn the easing to linear on all of them the reason for that is because with the easing exponential it slows it speeds up and slows down during the animation but i want them to move at a constant speed i don't want it to kind of go because i want to repeat this whole thing so what i'm going to do is just click and copy and add a couple more every time i do it i change the position to some sort of blank space and right in here and paste it again and shift the position here so you can see what i'm getting at right so the snowflakes are falling falling down and i think i've got enough of these ones so now this is a cool part if you want this to repeat of course you could select all of them copy and match them and put them in here but how long are you going to do that and how do you know when to stop and and so on and watch look one of them the first one finishes animating and never starts again unless i put a new copy in there and they're all gone now so i don't have any sort of seamless continuity unless i do this so watch this i go to the last the first clip right down here okay so this is the duration of the first clip and then there's more clips in here applies um that they continue but i what i want to do is just like a game of tetris i want the the part of animation that's after my playhead right here all of these i want them to be here because that makes it all a repeatable block so place your playhead exactly where the first clip ends because that's the first phase of the animation and hold down the shift key click the playhead and push right so what this does is it creates a slice right there in all the clips and moves them away so what i want to do now is select all of these this chunk that i cut out all of them and just drag it in place in here just trust the process so you see it fit perfectly because they have the same length and now watch this the flakes no longer start from the top they just appear in the middle of the screen and they just fall down on and on and on so what this means now is i can select this all of this thing and group it and let me save my project so this is one piece of animation i can replicate now ctrl c ctrl v and again ctrl c and ctrl v here we go check this out can you tell where the flakes stop and start you can't because now the animation is seamless and it just keeps repeating and it seems random so now you can make this as long as you like but it's kind of boring because not all the snowflakes are the same size so what i want to do is i want to go in here in one of these groups and i want to copy the first sequence just copy that one which is a first a full top to bottom one okay so go back in here outside and i'm going to paste that in here okay so what we want to do is we want to create another layer of snowflakes that are smaller and of course they fill different positions right but they actually need to repeat less because if snowflakes are far away they appear to be moving slower right so i'm just going to delete this last piece just to just illustrate and you can use the initial group to guide you into creating the double movement so i'm going to use double movement so all i'm doing is expanding this animation now to all the way to the back and doubling it zoom in if you can't really get the end of it i'm sorry i may be in the way all right i'm just gonna turn my screen for a second all right here we go so you can see i'm just bringing the animation closer to the edge there the the edges don't have to really be aligned perfectly because at the edges you know the snowflakes are out of screen you can't see them anyway so it doesn't matter if they come in a fraction of a second earlier or later you know so now which one is this uh the snowflakes that i'm talking about it's this one down here it's the one that's gone out of course i still have my global animation turned on you see it right here which allows me to scale this snowflake down so it is on the screen so i'm just going to scale it down to about 20 so you can see now i have a smaller snowflake another thing i can do is just change the opacity lower a bit so they appear a bit dimmer okay and now finally i'm going to do the same exact thing that i did in the other the other place they all start and stop in the same position obviously but you notice now that the smaller snowflake falls much slower because the duration of that animation is longer it does the same thing it just rotates right so again i'm going to make a couple of copies of this so the second snowflake is going to come in kind of here and change the position okay so don't forget to move it sort of where you have different room go back forward paste and use the arrow keys to just shift it to the edges here you go like this paste another one down here every time those snowflakes come in later and they take a different position on the screen so by the time they're all falling look you can see them all falling in different positions and i'm hoping camtasia doesn't crash on me but um i'm gonna actually add more in here and one more just okay i hope it doesn't crash because at some point camtasia is gonna okay and if you think that the distance between them is too short look i mean they're kind of falling in a group now all you need to do is just change the distance between these animations so i'm just going to make it double just to space them out a bit you know that's the that's the phase that's the thing you do when you want to make them kind of distance from each other look so they're kind of falling now still in a bit of a wave but um i don't want to add too many because i don't want camtasia to crash on me during the live stream so what i'm doing is i'm just going to demonstrate with with few snowflakes here we go so now we do the same i do the same thing where i go to the end yeah just make sure you're at the very end and shift and pull make sure you don't cut we don't slice the clip at the bottom which is the big flakes slice that and select everything and just things are getting really crowded in here okay and that just move this back in place there so watch this you know i have a repeatable block of snowflakes now and let's see if we we did the trick so i'm going to play the whole thing now you can see the small flakes coming in and out at random times there's quite a few of them now but um you know if you want to do more you can do more so let me just um show you the ps the resi stones i'm going to select everything here and group these small ones so i've got two layers now okay so another thing you can do is actually copy this group and paste it somewhere maybe a quarter of the way through so look you've just duplicated the number of snowflakes and if they seem too repeatable again you can go in the y property rotation 180 degrees to flip them around and now they're looking like they're much more random you see them and of course take the slice at the end boom and move that at the beginning like that so now you've got a seamless scene with snowflakes on it and finally another thing you can add these two groups with the small flakes and the big group let's move the big group at the top uh sorry both groups oops it's too narrow okay so this is the big uh flakes move them at the top and these are the small flakes groups down there move these down and now check this out i'm gonna go and add a annotation blur on the whole scene like that cover the whole scene with a blur and move this blur to fit the entire animation and move it down underneath the big snowflakes here we go so now turn the blue i mean it's it's too too strong so just turn the intensity down like that so it kind of looks like the smaller snowflakes are out of focus they're in the back and they're out of focus they're a bit dim okay so that's kind of the effect select everything group it and again right click on this and rename group snowflakes i'm getting there i'm promising i don't need this marker anymore and i'm going to add these to my library add to library snowflakes boom i've got snowflakes in my library and by the way i did another set before this live stream so watch now this you know you've got the nice christmas title so i'm going to bring the snowflakes in here boom like that and i've got the snowflakes and my christmas stuff and they should be at the bottom really right there and now you can of course control and rip repeat that animation any number of times you like ombasu welcome thanks for joining uh okay so here we go that's my animation and i can i can maybe turn the opacity down on this because if it's too strong it steals away from my background let me pull the other snowflakes now i hope this doesn't crash so i've got falling snowflakes i created just before the live stream and actually these ones i created them using just camtasia's line so yeah check this out i've got so many snowflakes now in my video so it kind of looks nice doesn't it i mean it's a nice cool you can have a nice jingle on top of this you know just to play and of course don't don't forget to repeat the animation as many times as you like so there you have it so i hope this was interesting i don't know i didn't get too many questions but i hope you've been able to learn something about the phase animation and so on so let me just turn my camera back on here so that was it i i think i'm gonna have to stop because i i was i was thinking of not doing more than half an hour but there you go an hour and a half later almost uh we're still doing the live show so thanks again for bearing with me i hope you have beard with me okay um thanks thanks again for joining me and i will create some of these assets that you've seen me create in here some of them much more polished and i will put them up in the download links below so you can download them and you know if you want to use them in your projects i have more ideas like you know you create some tree pine tree branches around the edges of your just create like a frame you can create a frame and put it on top of your videos and i'm hoping to do a new live stream next week if you want to join me or if you if you would prefer another day maybe people are busy in the weekend i understand that so i'm still figuring out which day is the best for the live streams so if you would prefer another day that would be much better for you just let me know in the comments and uh yeah maybe i'll schedule it in that day if i if i can but i i do want to do and next week i wanted to create to show you how i edit a tutorial video from start to finish so that that was my goal for next week i'm hoping to be able to do it and that means you know just take a screen recording of a tutorial and show you all the steps that i go through editing that tutorial from the raw recording with the camera to the finished product that i upload on youtube including how i'm transcribing it with the script which by the way there's a link in the description there for the script and the description transcribes the tutorials and oh yeah genealogy thanks for reminding me it's thanksgiving weekend all right it may not be next weekend then probably the next one but then there's the christmas stuff i don't know uh probably during the holidays people are more busy so i don't know if it's a good time you let me know but um i do enjoy uh making these and i do enjoy hanging out on the live streams i'm starting to get a bit of a bug for it uh eric thanks for joining i'm glad you found some useful stuff i hope and uh yeah just feel free to let me know what you thought the feedback on this live recording and any questions you have or stuff you want me to cover i'm struggling for ideas now what to cover in the next live streams let me know in the comments and i will seriously seriously consider covering those and and you know any questions you have in advance just let me know and uh kimberly yes i will leave this live stream recording later so you can uh record you can watch it at your own leisure so thanks again for joining everyone have a great weekend and uh let me just turn my splash screen in here i will see you next time thanks again for all your comments
