it begins with landrush stop [Music] interns big airs and the backstretch carnage and the rivalries it's where heroes are born and legends are made for 50 years racers from both coasts come here to America's heartland to prove that they are the best of the best in front of over 50,000 diehard fans this is the Crandon International off-road Raceway welcome to the big house [Music] welcome to the big house it's Crandon Wisconsin and the 50th edition of the off-road World Championships we are set for Pro Class racing here on a early Saturday evening Jason wagon joined by multi time off-road champion including the 2018 Baja 1000 champion Cameron Steele we're ready for our pro to racing the land rush start is ready the fastest track in short Kouros off-road racing is ready and one of the biggest fields we've seen in a while ready also absolutely amazing to be here to capture the energy of the crowd to feel what the sellout feels like to see the land rush start stacked up if you've never if you can't imagine a land rush start I mean if you haven't been inside one it's impossible to really see it from their standpoint but imagine trying to line up 16 of your friends and run for the small garage door from the outside of your house and try to fit them all in and this is how it looks like for the front group of protists Chad horde your fastest earlier today in qualifying yeah Chad horde who certainly knows his way around this track former winner of the Cup race which is when you put two wheel drive and four wheel drive machines on the track will run that one tomorrow horde knows his way around Kiki Kincaid certainly familiar with this facility he is the local product he was second with grid selection saw based on qualifying times from earlier today a lot of drivers talking about the track being slick will see how important the start is going to be now another thing to look at you see it says group two here there are different rules that's specifically with the engine package of the feel that races in the mid and what Midwest and in the West so they are actually going to take the faster trucks and put them on row two and see if they can catch up so we're gonna have a couple of races within the race right and they're still all going for the overall we also have to remember that there's a championship to be crowned here today key cade leading the points he is looking for that championship but of course you always want to look for the win no matter when you're out on the racetrack so a couple different things going on this is a good look in at key Kinkaid and as you said it's about a 200 horsepower split from these smaller engines that are in the front row and the larger engines of engines in the back and why that is happening is there's a transition in the sport going to the iron block going to the 7500 max Ram chip and that is about the difference when you talk about the couple hundred horsepower that's why the time difference in the split takeoff right there'll be a little less horsepower on the front row but we'll give them a head start this is your pro 2 here on Saturday and it will also pay points one other truck late to the grid just trying to get this thing racked up because we're about to go racing the line rush star totally unique in Short Course off-road racing these days and it's definitely one of the trademark factors to deal with when you're at Crandon and we are underway in pro 2 Andrew Karsen a good jump here and the 15 through the middle of the field let's see if you can lead them into turn one and already bicycles that is the number three that's penico daily penico who has already rolled that machine will see if caution is out or not and they're heading to the gravel pit for the first time at the number four of Kinkaid leads them but there is the yellow and this is what we were talking about with the gigantic field everyone wants to be here for the 50th anniversary we knew there would be more trucks on the line than we've seen in the last couple of years and we knew there might be some carnage as an impact of that depending on traction track set up the speed that the drivers are talking about is around 100 miles an hour as they start setting up for this turn number one you can see the contact it looks like penico and mcgrath got together and penico being sent off the side into sort of a backwards barrel a couple times over and we saw him working with his net and we'll wait for the safety crew you can see the crane and safety crew on point there and it looks like some fiberglass damage and a vehicle has restarted yeah and Daley penico obviously okay here as well so that's good to see welcome to Short Course off-road racing Brandon style high speed flying out to the side inversion and I will just fire back up and go racing right up front though I think that's bad news for the rest of the field certainly yeah the vision racing wheel machine of Kiki Kincaid who is the points leader here in the Midwest series and as he told us it's been quite a story with him coming through the ranks his dad was a great racer Jeff but he grew up five miles from this race facility he said he's 29 years old he has gone down to this race for 29 years so he knows the way around the track he's a favorite and he's up front earlier and his sons of course getting the same tree his twins here today at the race as well their first time ever and it's just a great family event you see his dad himself his kids and all the smiling faces Kiki cade definitely a huge factor in this a for wind so far on the Midwest season and definitely looking like the one to beat as he leads a group here early in the race gonna be a full restart which means the land rush start will be brought back we had not even completed really two corners of this race so we are gonna do the land rush start again we'll wait for the trucks to get back over to this is the final turn on the track so they're headed back over to the starting area second row I would presume had not even taken off yet so they're just sitting there waiting as we'll get this land rush start going again a Cameron you've called and driven in a lot of these races explained the land rush start of what the typical start is at every other track that doesn't do it this way so many other tracks have a rolling start where you're two-by-two some might even start in a single-file restart will be on a single-file but the Landru start is unique here over the years I've done a number of land row starts going back to the 80s when I was a kid of course some races in Southern California but Crandon that is what it's all about is that land rush start and just the energy and excitement I can tell you from being inside the car when you're sitting on the line in a land rush start situation I've always thought okay well I've got this right but everybody next to you thinks they've got that's right so Kincaid was able to control and I thought it might've been Andrew Carlson of the number 15 who was leading them into the first turn but just the way the angle in that turn worked out it worked in favor not only the angle but this is something we should explain to everybody it's an undulating start line right and it's in there's some grass there's some dirt there's some rocks some of it is a little bit more watered someone's a little bit less so by having that pole position in qualifying of course Keaton Kincaid gets the first start spot the spot he thinks he wants now he's decided to line up second from the inside on the inside you have the opportunity to protect but there's a good look there's some mud there's some places where the jump is bigger in the middle some spots where the jump is smaller and then of course it's going to taper down from left to right into that first right-hand turn and as we said around 100 miles an hour classic off-road racing out a deal with the terrain and of course the speeds as well why while we wait for the trucks to react for a restart here we're in a Senate to Cade Osborne and get a little update and some atmosphere from the racetrack okay the spotter stand is a place to be right now and as you can imagine there's a whole lot of chatter as these drivers are lining back up for this land rush start but in talking a daily pentakus Potter he said that daily happens to be okay however they have lost the fan in the truck and they're not entirely sure about the temp so as we start research that that's one to keep an eye on on the number three truck Jason all right thanks for the report so good to see he's okay but probably not gonna be able to rack it here and I made a mistake there I wanted a correct Chad horde as your fastest qualifier in group number one and of course Chad a former winner of the Cup race in the two-wheel drives I believe back in 2011 a great personality lots of fun they were super stoked to take that number one spot in the qualifying earlier today so I didn't want to misrepresent I made a slight mistake there but that's to happen you know no problem we got a lot of trucks at a lot of drivers to keep track of here and that's a lot of the buzz here of the 50th anniversary of this event all the drivers saying man it's been 10 15 20 years since we've seen this many entrants in the pro classes and today we'll be showing you pro 2 pro light and pro 4 and then we'll put some of them on the track together tomorrow that's a huge field to deal with absolutely we're talking about qualifying and how they lined up today just for some information will you be some of the fast qualifiers Chad horde of course was the fastest over to Keaton Kincaid and then Jeremy McGrath who traditionally raced on the west coast he has not been racing this year at all and he has converted his truck to the steel block to the less horsepower he was your third fastest than [ __ ] lineman who's second in the points racing Kincaid for that championship and then the driver unfortunately that we saw crash and now that we've heard has a fan issue was your fifth fastest with daily penico and as you said you were talking about Andrew Carlsen he was the sixth fastest and that is in the group one which we can jump back there are two lines of racing going on yeah we'll get to see those drivers in a moment once we restart this race in group 2 takes off Andrew Carlsen 6th in qualifying there he is he's gonna pull double duty it's got a four-wheel-drive truck as well another thing unique to offer a racing he's gonna have a two-wheel drive machine and a four-wheel drive and then tomorrow when we raced the Cup race where it's two against four he'll have a decision to make which machine does he want to use and he said it could go all the way down to taking the both trucks out to the lineup and then deciding at that moment and then his crew would take the other truck off so a lot of racing to happen here at the 50th anniversary we've already got our first land rush start my heart was beating in the race car but it's just there's so much excitement here and just walking through the fans and seeing the energy and the people how excited they are but also how switched-on they are to the racing I mean this is a huge real fan base they just aren't here for a show no no they know drivers cars numbers names tendencies pen it goes back to the line looks like the Halloween costume version of that truck looks like they threw a sheet over it nope that's just bent up sheet metal and fiberglass so he's gonna give it a shot and looks look at this crowd here we were talking to the folks behind this event some of the sections that they haven't seen sell out before are sold out that includes all the camping spots all the grandstand seats are sold out and of course last night we started this event in the best possible way with a gigantic concert with Kid Rock right here live on the grounds could talk to people all day about how pumped they were where they threw at Kid Rock fan originally or not they're all fans of him by now no absolutely true everybody said it was an incredible show lots of energy but also just the entire vibe all around the pits everybody like I mean virtual high fives everywhere you can see the crowd waving you mentioned the grass camp spots sold out there's 2,300 of them pits areas there's a camping area yeah so well over 2,000 camping spots sold they filled it pit areas sold out couldn't even take on any additional people and the grandstands full there's still grass area in front of those grandstands as well so they're expecting north of 50 to 60 potential thousand people here throughout the weekend looks like we're about ready cowboy is down there that's tradition at Crandon - let him run the starts and of course also the restarts so we're gonna get another land rush started Pro - every truck back on the line even penico rolled it is going to give another shot final points paying race in Lucas Oil Midwest offroad short course racing this year but you're also gonna have the drivers from the west and this seeds them on the start for tomorrow's racing so a lot of the line let's do it again with a restart in pro 2 what's an s60 one tremor cross not able to get going there Kincaid in the number four leads I'm in but a liver the contact from behind the four of Kincaid will lead through turn one it looks like we're gonna get through clean but it looks like maybe a little tire rubbing smoke from damaged fiberglass on the back Kincaid as there's some contact there your second place driver that is Corey winter there is the second group the West Coast pro twos as you said about two hundred more horsepower is that tire rub of that smoke coming off is that a more catastrophic problem or is our leader okay we're gonna have to find out the number 77 of Jarret Brooks yeah he's a boy stood all getting spun is Brian Deegan out of road - I don't know handle the 38 hung onto that nearly got turned over to position he got lived to its affiliate for Bradley Morris in that orange truck in third so the second row is underway we're on macaque er in the legend the number 21 coming through in fourth they try to set up the staggered start to where the lap time differential could potentially leave that second group right here with the lead group by the time I get to the last lap winner is all over your leader Kincaid well now that Oh coming around back there lots of contact we'll see they're all gonna get it straight my ass McGrath and [ __ ] to the number 9 and penico goes for another ride so that's twice and his machine's been banged up so horde and McGrath get into it in the pack and we're back out of the land rush start straight for the first time you mentioned is it is it tire rub on the fender or one the money spoke from the qkv gender so go away but now that the fender is pulled away I don't see the smoke so hopefully it was just a fender rubbing situation Cory winter with the big chart the youngster Gibby charge Aki Kade had your call sent up into third but already starting the pole way Matt there you see the third place truck were heating to what they call the gravel pit and the yellow is out they're gonna check them up and restock them we'll try to get you all the information as to what's going on right now that running order of course Kincaid overwinter we did have that stack up in the back with hoard McGrath and penico but they didn't get going so I'm not sure if that's the incident that brought out the yellow flags or not could have been something else you remember we do that second row battling which would have been Brooks Deegan leduc and others back Akron in there as well so not sure if there was a problem there or if it was from this first group we've got the yellow flags out but this is a good run for winter here putting some serious pressure on should be fun when they get going again and sure and you know when you start talking about the other group also need to know that there is going to continue a split on the yellow flags they won't just pull up behind the first group so there will maintain that split with the restart and the restart will happen underneath the red bull arches they come around I believe we're still waiting for information we're checking out the incident here this is mcgrath spinning and the number two the max's truck penico nowhere to go into him remember his machine was already torn up from the roll brooks was just able to sneak by around the outside Deegan and LaDuke on the inside and everyone was able to get it back under way so that's good to see and definitely something worth mentioning the fiberglass is just the outer exterior of the race vehicle they're custom-built full tube chassis vehicles they can run without the fiberglass they don't need a hood they don't need a roof they have safety panels on the inside of the door safety panel on the inside of the roof so technically speaking the body is for beauty for sponsors to make it look like the the truck that it is it's designed around truck engineering and it looks like McGrath looking for a way into the hot pit as he goes by some of the group here that legend 72 Supercross wins yeah the king of Supercross and does a great job driving off-road trucks but he's moved on doesn't do it full-time anymore but he told us that Crandon was absolutely on the must do list this year and see Kincaid rolling toward the starting line area with the body panels hanging off that's just part of off-road racing happens all the time and these panels are pretty much built to break away if they take an impact and that happened literally right off the start Kincaid was trying to get his nose out in front little contact from behind Carlson and winter are the second and third trucks lined up here as you see them come forward the hot pit is off to the side of this starting area and that's where a driver can go if he has a problem with the machine maybe needs to get a tire fixed and there's a good look inside the office mr. Kincaid he was calm cool collected today wasn't he he was having a good time yeah absolutely and that's really difficult considering he's got two eight month olds to contend with there in his pit area a happy new father but absolutely having a great time and it's impressive to be because since he is from this area we know that when you have a huge crowd here he's the one that they're all pulling for that is a lot of pressure he's dealt with it well through the years couple years ago even won the Cup race even taking his two-wheel drive machine out and beating the four-wheel drive machines but he doesn't seem to let that pressure of being the home track specialist get to him even though you know what those grandstands want to see and get it done you've mentioned the Cup race a couple times we both have that will happen at the end of racing on Sunday we will pit the four-wheel drives versus the two-wheel drives with a split start everybody going for the single Cup yeah that's the granddaddy of them all tomorrow and we'll have that coverage as well so a lot of talk about the drivers on the racetrack but what about the fans what's that part of this facility like let's bring it down there we'll introduce Tina Dixon to the show and see what it's like Tina what's happening down on the track yeah thanks Jason we'll take a look behind me their eyes are pointed to that start they're just as hungry to get these races started as the drivers you know and I've been here a number of times and I have never seen the crowd at this big and they're actually very silent right now you can see them eyes pointed to the start they're ready to get this thing started Jason absolutely and they have been watching racing all day long it started early multiple classes out here will cover the pro classes on our show today here with red bull on the motor sports YouTube channel and other facilities however it doesn't matter what class it is it doesn't matter if it's a Kart if it's a side by side if it's a buggy if it's a classic as if it's a Super Stock truck or the pro machines these fans are pumped and they are knowledgeable and they pretty much never leave these fence areas regardless of what class it is and there's the Red Bull Arch that they race to that's the marker for turn to turn one is kind of a kink or almost a chicane off of that landrush start but they hit about a hundred miles an hour they get a pair of jumps right in front of the spectator area so now Cameron we're not going to redo the land rush start we're gonna go to a grid system and you can explain this a little more traditional how off-road short course races generally begin correct so this traditional system is side-by-side they will be on a rolling start and what they'll do is they'll come from that giant starting straight around turn one together in unison staying in line when they get to the Red Bull arch that is where the green flag will fly now the officials have said there's no stepping out and there's no passing before you get through the art so when the first trucks get there they will get the green but everybody else has to stay in line at least in theory until they get through the Red Bull art well so I'm gonna ask if you're the lead driver for example keke Kincaid in this situation are there some tricks you can try to use to try to open that gap a little bit there's always the trick sure I mean you can come in a little slow and start to ramp up your speed or you can actually check it up just a little bit which starts an accordeon checkup now all of that is frowned on by the officials of course they want to keep it tight in unison and I believe we're gonna see a pretty gentlemen style line up here going to that green flag but there's there's always gamesmanship when it comes to any form of racing and off-road is definitely a big part of that as well yes don't go over the line but push it as far as you can looks like Chad horde will be the one lined up next to Kincaid Kincaid ease and that tracks us vision racing that black Ford and horde is in the Yokohama truck next to him let's send it back to Kate Osborne Kate what's happening in talking with the spotters here it's really interesting because I've been told the tension up here is incredible but for Todd Leduc he says he does not like these restarts right now and he said there's damaged but he's one of the ones who was involved in that last incident which is now causing this restart in talking with cherub rooks there is no damage on his car but he is kind of getting frustrated with how these slower cars are up front we'll see how all this plays out here in just a bit Jason thanks Kate yeah that's a real talking point so that second group Brooks was leading it a Todd Leduc by the way hasn't raised her in many years he's just a fill-in driver for Bradley Morris not able to drive today so yeah any of that carnage or just slower machines they've got to manipulate their way through there and not lose ground to the leaders not only not lose ground they they need to get by quickly so they can get to the front and start to attack I'm talking about the backpack with the more horsepower it's really laid out so they would meet at the last lap right but it takes a long time to get through drivers because no matter how wide the track is which Crandon is known as a very wide track with lots of racing surface there's always one best line around and usually everybody is in that line so a lot of times you have to wait for someone to make a mistake you have to maybe make an aggressive under braking situation try to pass or get around and it's a tough place not a very easy place to pass because there is such high speed and these are two wheel drive trucks so it definitely changes the driving style a lot of the drivers saying you really can't run the insides as well in a two-wheel drive machine as you can in a four and if you're someone like Keaton Kincaid and some other people you'll use the two-wheel drive some other drivers are gonna drive both and try to figure out which works better on this racetrack but the race line will change all based on some parameters like that we're getting ready for a restart and so special to be here I've been here a couple times now but the 50th is obviously big there was hope that it would maybe be bigger than ever it seems like as a numbers start to roll in you can just sense it from the atmosphere and the amount of people are here it seems like it's living up to the hype and it also means more drivers with more focus on trying to win here this is always big but this is maybe the biggest there's definitely a focused intensity from the drivers we asked him in the pits is there more to it because of the 50 most all of them say of course and I think the ones that say not really they're telling a story yeah the pressure they're trying to take pressure off trying to relieve that that edge but I'll tell you when you walk through here if you've never been a Crandon like I have never been here before I've been racing off-road cars for 35 years I've been involved with a lot of different motor sports always wanted to be at Crandon but being here and walking in even though you know what to expect the giant crowds the big campgrounds the massive pits the giant racecourse you come in and your eyes are so wide I was like I was like a kid in a candy store I couldn't believe it and then when you start walking around and hanging out with the fans and talking to people I have said energy a number of times it's kind of cliche but man I tell you feels like you get high five everybody you walk by yeah everybody's in a good mood and hopefully you folks at home are as well so give us the shout out at Red Bull Motorsports hook us up on there tell us what you think or hashtag Crandon live and tag us on social media tell us what you think of the racing we've seen a little bit so far we've already got the trademark short course off-road racing carnage with a couple of stack ups I'll roll over right off the start that's just par for the course in Short Course off-road racing especially in a wide fast racetrack like this with the land rush start we do here they're about to go green again it is the local product from right here in cran and Kiki Kincaid who will lead them to green it almost looks like it's gonna be a standing start with the green Oh back there so and now I was horde like I said who's door to door but Kincaid I think I I believe the heat they're gonna get to go ahead and they'll start rolling Oh got star line it just the way it looks you see the start of the throw the green flag so my energy spiked up but I believe it will be a rolling start and looks they're gonna change potentially the order here that is the 42 of Kyle climbin who's been moved back climbing one of the frontrunners he is second in points in the Midwest or as a lot of people had to call the eastern because you have Midwest and then completely out west racing in California Arizona et cetera so climb and moved to the back and that yellow machine and here we go it was a standing race start and it is a perky in Concannon he's gonna lead shad horde on in and here comes the 15 Avenger Carlson out door to door which had a horde over the first topic collide in midair Carlson on the inside let's see if we can control it it takes second he does he's in that position and here comes the restart for the higher horsepower west coast guard's Deegan lay it out with Sharon Brooks and Brooks will control as they go into turn number to the number 77 Deacon right there in the 38 multi-time champion in the Lucas Oil Western series definitely knows how to sling a two wheel drive truck around indeed and his daughter haily who will race a little bit later today in pro light absolutely this was on the list who come to Trenton they don't race this for points they race it because this is the off-road World Championship they want to be here Luke Duke under some pressure running Bradley Morrison's truck the number 24 he's in third and Brooks has been a shining star coming through the ranks as we switch gears here to the front that of course is decayed and the Carlson Karlsson I love the move that he had their own that start he really he lead on [ __ ] to dances in there you can see you can't looking out the window as he's sliding the dirt to see where his competition isn't Kincaid with a nice he's already clear about 12 trucks on Carlson Appleseed Carlson can make a run of it Karlsson grew up actually as a snowmobile racer parents owned a TRX motorsports park which is one of the world premier destinations for racing snow cross but of course when the weather thaws they allow offroad trucks there as well so he's getting to see this sport from all sides it's certainly a great transition from snow machines over to trucks Carlson is third in points in this Midwest series and he's trying to run down here leader Kincaid with the vision racing wheels Traxxas machine gonna click off another lap here coming around the right turn this is where the checkered flag will be as you clear that right hander and you can see some chaos here it looks like hard what is happening there with the left front Oh hard he's trying to hold down this spot and finally it gives up the ghost by the way it bounced I'm gonna guess that maybe a shock or shock oil catching uh some heat there on the brakes it can also be a brake line but it did definitely look like the truck headed on come balance their quarry waiter here that fat tech machine has moved back up to the number two spot he was there he's able to make some passes and get around penico whose machine is pretty much body panel free at this point after a rollover and then a crash in this corner is still right there the mix at number three is in third a head of Angela Carlson who has been pushed back to pork wait see by the way you'll have the road to trucks with more horsepower starting to work their way through the rest of the field we start in our row one McGrath I think at the back of this group after he got spun and this is what's so exciting when you get this type of pack and a big wide racetrack as we leap into turn number two a push there for the 97 pushing to the turn just a little bit of course that's Cody Conrad and then the number two there are two number twos in this race of course one representing the west coast with Jeremy McGrath and then mark Peterson representing the Midwest or as we've been saying the East Coast look at this Corey why is a crowded head climbing is gonna be the one to take advantage gains a position there that yellow truck able to get by body panels falling off of nearly everyone in this race so Peterson now gets tagged by climbing to the number two climbing right there in the 42 McGrath trying to sneak up on this gap as well now climb it in the yellow truck that you're seeing there yellow and black he has won two races on his Midwest so far this year sitting second points he would love to get up and challenge with TK oh there's a 77 of Brooks first West Coast truck with the big horsepower already started to make moves he's got around that 42 of Klieman now going after McGrath and now we'll get to see for the first time the differential in speed between the two different spec engines looked like he was gonna drop to the inside of trying to outbreak McGrath down the bottom and he does but the two trucks been in front of him he's able to be cleared he's gonna get a number of positions here playing on that horsepower 20 bridge on Schaefer spun and that was good timing Brooks was able to get around him and not get slowed up good presence of mind by the young driver 22 years of age is Brooks and that's one of the best characteristics of an off-road or short course race or a Supercross racer is being able to know what's going on around you being able to make those decisions the car starts to spin out front he's already opening up wide and look at this he is making a challenge to the inside of Conrad now in the 97 he is going to the bottom and will control so he has moved up quite away through the group well that was the best-case scenario for Brooks that's five trucks he just cleared in about half a lap and he did not get slowed up much so the leader of the second row now his clear racetrack well the other thing to mention what he's really fortunate about his little outside inside go ahead five of these trucks are blocking the other faster trucks behind there in between him so right now he has a massive gap and we'll see if he can race to the front he still has Carlson winner and Kincaid to try to get around if he wants to try to overall this Pro to race nine lap race and yes the goal is for the time differential for road to to essentially be made up on the last lap of this race and then we can go door-to-door with the leader from Row 1 and the leader from Row 2 Brooks has done his job he's gone through the thick of it as these drivers continue to battle each other hard Peterson to the bottom in the number-two Kleinman right within their bull trying to get by though he's seven contact and the 97 retains position which is the four spot on the track Klieman got spun at five peterson and able to do the quick 360 and get back under way fourth in the lower horsepower cars of course brooks is sitting in the fourth overall position right now so wilson call them in an overall stat moving forward yeah the next goal for books is to try to catch third-place Andrew Carlsson now you see the general 38 Brian Deegan trying to make tracks here the inside make up some ground and D you trying to get to the inside of the 23 now that's John Shaffer D in his fare let's see if the lowlands gonna pay off my job fills the line I think he's going to make that work and the next driver deagle trying to go after his the 97 of Conrad and the number 2 of Peterson as we are now halfway through this one 9 lap pro to race here on Saturday back T reader Kiki Kincaid all he can do is try to make that lead as big as possible and hope it holds up does he know Jarrett Brooks with the extra horsepower it's gonna start bearing down on him eventually [Applause] [Music] great sight and sound as he goes through one that's where the landrush starch funnels into and a good look now talk about the lower horsepower I will say though a little less for stars a little easier to track the big horsepower you get into the throttle you'll break traction you'll spin the lower horsepower sometimes really hooks up and as a more drivable vehicle so yes more horsepower is something you want but you also got to be able to have the drivability now over to the live traffic for our leader Ken K to deal with let's see if that slows them up and I think it does does it and the red comes out I believe we're going to have the competition caution here which is a staple of the racing today the competition caution to tighten up the field it's like Carlson was able to make some moves here and is third driver across the line with Cory winner next so this should be the competition caution which is already scheduled for around the halfway mark of this race if they went just past halfway because we did already have a couple of yellows and a restart as this race began so we're looking at probably a three lap shootout as we bring the prate pace truck out here at Crandon once again the mandatory caution of course re racks the field as you talked about gives the drivers a second to take a breath also gives the vehicle as a second to cool down and you know I I like it because it reacts that racing the fans get a chance to see the battle start over again so the racers already know it's pre planned so they race to a certain position they know what's going to come and then they're ready for that restart and as you said of course Kincaid out front and then winner and Carlson and then your first unlimited or higher horsepower vehicle of Jer Brooks let's send it back to Tina Dixon thanks guys and yeah we're now just getting things started in the mandatory caution and one driver to really keep your eyes out for is that Andrew Carlsen you were talking about him earlier number 15 he will be very busy driving both the pro two and the pro four you know he really hasn't been driving short course off-road that long only about five years but he's been trying to fast-track his program he says he feels comfortable in that Pro 2 and then that pro 4 it's all about aggression but driving both has made him a better overall driver in fact two weeks ago he came out here for some testing so let's keep our eyes out for him Jason and he did make some moves to get back up into that third-place spot so definitely we'll keep an eye on the number 15 let's get another perspective from this racetrack we'll send it to Kate Osborne one driver who hasn't been here since 2013 the number 21 over ramnik Cochrane has a bit of a different relationship with his spotter as he actually enjoys the chatter throughout he said that his spotter Dave Clark are the eyes on the outside he's been working with him since 1991 and I asked him what makes him such a good spotter he said well he's calm he has a good voice he knows him personally and professionally and understands his idiosyncrasies and talking to Dave Clark about what makes him fun to spot for Rob MacCachren he says he doesn't does he's not disturbed by all of my chatter and a relationship like that here between the spotter and the driver is extremely important like I said here at Crandon for the success of the whole team Jason all right thanks Kate yes it's awesome to see by the way Rob MacCachren and his entire crew including his spotter back in action he wanted to be here for the 50th of this event normally just drives out on the west coast we had a chance to talk to Rob Mac a little bit more about this event earlier this weekend halfway you know you always race to the halfway we know there's gonna be a yellow two grooves backup you know and uh set the racing again so if we happen to be out front you know we don't like the hello cuz we're winning you know you don't want to give up that leave you have typically if you're in the back you know it's good it's another opportunity to to go on kill mode and try to get people and pass them so you know if I'm not winning I look forward to it if I'm winning I don't look forward to it so all in all it's really good for the fans it bunches everybody back up again and create some more racing and more opportunities for people to pass and make positions and that's the position that he's in right now because Jaret Brooks was getting away so it's Rob Mack's chance to get him back and back to being comfortable at the spotter his spotter Dave Clark of course is a brilliant engineer race car builder but Rob is used to having a navigator inside the race truck to when he races in the desert so having conversation is pretty typical race day for him when he's in the truck for 16 or 20 hours or whatever the time may be in off-road races in the desert so there's a degree of comfort there when you have someone to talk to you I know that's how we do it with our navigator inside our race truck and there's a look at the field as we get set for a restart single-file restart now for this competition caution Keegan Kincaid continues to lead but it will be interesting the fourth truck on the grid that is Jarrett Brooks is the points leader in the Lucas Oil Western racing championship so we knew he'd be one of the favorites coming in here he is the first of the trucks from Row 2 with the bigger horsepower engine so we'll see how close they will align them on this restart as Brooks will have a couple of laps to try to catch those lead three trucks and again they try to pace it out so at the last lap potentially the last two to three turns the drivers from Row 2 have caught the drivers from Row 1 and then it's a battle right to the checkered flag just about ready to go here it is winter and Carlson lined up in the second and third spots on the grid behind your leader Kincaid so the top three take off they're gonna leave Brooks to build in the cap again this would be winners chance he's taking a couple of shots at Kincaid each time key Kate's been able to pull away row two now underway now the rules are even if you start in row 1 if you have been caught by one of the trucks of Row 2 you have to wait as well so Brooks has clear race track but a lot of ground to make up Deanna macaque are trying to battle for past McGrath looks like they're gonna make that happen as we jump to the forward three trucks as we said the Rev chip is set at about 7500 the unlimited trust to go to 2,000 couple hundred horsepower the trucks here with the small entire block a little bit heavier and all big push to the outside for you Cade the fast time fast way around the corner a lot of times is to get up against that cushion or where the roost is sitting where that edge of the track is and Kinkaid a pro he knows exactly how to do it as you said he's been here on this earth for 29 years and he hasn't missed a Crandon since he was born absolutely his dad Jeff one of the best ever sling it around here as it offroad short course driver as well so Keegan has learned the lessons and he's starting to pull away just a bit from Cory winner and Andrew Carlson who earns our second and third and we will keep the radar out by the way for that black truck coming through we presume fourth of the race track cherrick Brooks down past the land rush start straight to go there is Brooks it's like Deegan I believe trying to stay with him keeping him honest so those are the two West Coast trucks with a big horsepower can they close the gap and those three trucks there in the front have all one on the west coast this year Brooks of course has won three times and pulled econimic acronym won one time each respectively Brooks has definitely been the hot shoe on the west coast lately and really switched on I mean as you can see came through the ranks as a youngster through this cart classes of course pro-lite and it's a really incredible to watch is driving in the pro two oh it's here a couple of years ago he was racing SST a support class here and he wasn't even old enough to have a driver's license but he still was able to win the race and battle for championships in that division he has come a long way in a short time but he did not raise his rates last year because this truck they were trying to figure out the setup on it to work on this course they finally feel it they had it nailed this year and they said load it up and let's head to Kramden that's Jarrett Brooks back to our physical leader on the race track and right now the overall leader Kincaid winner just able to keep in sight tightest turn on the track right here and hooks him back on the land rush start straight and Carlson here in the 15 has dropped back just a little bit you can see Brooks coming not far back there a gap that we had was about six seconds from your leader back to Jeff Brooks we'll see if he can overcome that and just a couple laps of racing here Rob MacCachren has caught Dean these are the two trucks are watching right now diga nimac Akron these two definitely know their way around of course macaca in one of the all-time legends of off-road racing Deegan has been there done it in all forms of racing beats Supercross freestyle motocross had couple times and X Games he jumped in a rally car was competitive there then a two-wheel drive short course off-road truck he's won multiple championships out west and he is determined to try to keep rooks honest and Kate Rob back behind him and you can see there are some holes developing from the truck side loading a pulling dirt out and so that could develop different lines but with one lap of racing as they come through here I believe watching Deegan and Macau from both using that line right up against the cushion still no white flag out what's cold today - is the determination of these three drivers who are not racing for points today the drivers from row 1 this is a points paying event for them so we're wondering what with the motivation to run hard be for this group well there's no question about it they're pushing hard Brooks Deegan and McCarran given everything they have will there be enough time for Brooks here in that rigid industries machine to catch the top three trucks physically on the track his trucks faster he has more power but does he have enough time back to keikain smooth out front done he never I mean he Brooks they don't make mistakes it's so rare to see so to make time you'd really have to be on point we talked about the higher horsepower the changing track is what could become a factor if you start to get the undulations the ruts get some of those divots some people call bomb holes where the hole out of nowhere so to speak and just poetry motion a great look at the crowd in the background and something the driver loves to see that white flag but the one thing that's more important than the white flag the checkered flag yeah I'll have to go looking good for Keegan Kincaid who has withstood the pressure of a couple of restarts in this one winner and Carlson were leading on him for a while Chad horde was quick in qualifying but Kincaid was able to rally when it mattered most here in our Pro 2 event on Saturday and there is certainly not enough time for Brooks to catch him it's gonna take a big mistake to upset our leader right now great job by winner booth run second for the majority this race even when he got shuffled back he was able to retake the spot now Carlson has been caught by Brooks so Brooks looking for third overall in this race Carlson steps out brakes traction and I think Brooks has a really solid runner it looks like a really solid run down the bottom and I think he's going to get him with the horsepower and of course the solid line coming out of that final turn over the rise here and into the gravel Pecos Keegan Kincaid the native son of cran and Wisconsin certainly a crowd favorite out here but in let's that kind of pressure get to him you wouldn't even know that this guy was driving today and we talked for this afternoon he was as happy and as relaxed as anyone could be but why not it's the 50th anniversary of racing in his hometown of crevice Consing and what a better pic to win our first race here on shamash to go to on a Saturday goes to Keegan Kincaid and you hear the fans loving it there is Brooks who is able to execute that pass on Carlsen we'll come across in second yes he already has so Brooks from row two is able to make it up to third and deke and I believe is gonna come across in fifth behind Carlson and that is the first of three pro two races or times the pro two's will race here on this weekend of course we will have the world championship round on Sunday morning and then beyond that Sunday afternoon the Cup race where will pit the twos and fourth against each other not only bragging rights here but a championship for Keegan Kincaid and also first pick on the line tomorrow as well for the world championship round if I'm not mistaken yeah and we're wondering with the land rush start it's not that if you have a bad position you're gonna end up several rows back but we were able to check out the start we've talked to some drivers the Kincaid group certainly happy that's Jeff Kincaid who is one of the legends also of off-road racing clearly he taught his son well how important do you think that great position will be with the land rush start you're not gonna get shoved several rows back but left to right being able to protect the inside is huge yeah and there is a slight stagger as they go down from inside to out so huge advantage having that first pick on the inside going into one okay so that'll be big for Keegan in tomorrow's racing but right now the focus is on today and he has done it he wins the pro two race on a Saturday he was able to distance himself from his competition from Row one and had enough of a lead where the big poor how high horsepower trucks in row two couldn't catch him in there it is the celebration begins for the local product Keegan Kincaid and now the crew able to work their way down to the racetrack and we'll let him soak it in a bit take his helmet off and the very friendly 29 year old from right here at random is constant easier winner will send it down to Tina Dixon to get a word with him sixteen a big win Finn and you started out this weekend with this win here again in your hometown how important was it for you to win this one oh you know this this means a lot not only for me but uh to Cooper Tire vision wheel Am's well everybody that's stuck behind me and we struggled the last couple years and we just finally started clicking and I said you know what I got to do it put her head down and go and we were just comfortable with this truck you know wasn't the fastest in qualifying so we made some adjustments and that's what we do is make adjustments and keep getting faster and we're gonna continue to do it through the weekend because there's a lot of fast guys coming up so we're excited we got this championship done and on to the weekend now there are several restarts in that race as a driver how do you keep your composure and keep moving forward yeah you know it was a pretty nerve-wracking cuz like we got the whole shot the first time and then got it again the second time and then they say we're gonna restart again so it is what it is it's racing as part of it so we learned to adjust and everybody's got to do it so I can't thank Cooper tire AMSOIL vision wheel tracks it's discount tire Ted eg Autobody all these guys that have been behind me has just been amazing and we finally did it congratulations on winning the Pro 2 out here Jason Thank You Tina and he gets to celebrate there right in front of the packed grandstands and you know they're happy to see the local favorite take the win we'll show you the results here on screen winner ends up in second Brookes from road 2 up to third ahead of Carlsen Deegan would be the second truck from row to fifth overall ahead him a Cochrane of the 24 I believe is actually LaDuke McGrath despite some carnage hangs on for eighth climbing who got spun he got rammed he got hit he did some of the he received some of it he dished some of it out he ends up ninth and Peterson who was evolved in some of that fracas as well 10th so where there was a smooth race for Kincaid Cameron Steele these other drivers man they were really banging into each other and going for it there was a lot of work going on back there and to try to keep it clean is definitely the goal but there's a lot of hard racing leaning on each other and when you look at the field I mean I think there a little bit of unnecessary contact back there of course when you're racing you're inside the car you can't really tell exactly how it should have gone I love to see a clean hard race I love to see a little leaning a little Robin a little bumping but I'd prefer not to see him spinning each other around just because I would love to see those drivers in the mix moving forward all the time we'll show you some highlights of this race and it certainly was not short of that especially with that land rush start and some action as soon as this race began and then they continue to pour it on throughout so we'll show you some highlights of this Pro to race started with the land rush start and a wild ride for the number three of penico certainly in just the speed that they carry you can see penico had a line he wanted make contact McGrath came together and just unfortunately throws penico for all the good news is he was able to rejoin the fray and be involved and there it is penico again together McGrath spinning on his own going wide and then that collects penico and that's a lot of action for one truck and the number three we eventually restarted the race had horde lined up next to Kincaid who was able to get away there's a little lean in there for sure we talked about it as they came around this was the problem for horde we'll have to try to find out what's going on and either break or shock fluid some kind of fluid there on the front but unfortunately horde went out your fast qualifier looking good here and looking forward to seeing him race tomorrow now this stack up watch that 77 truck that's the first from row to past about five trucks in three corners and he had two and watch Peterson in the two and climbing in the yellow just pushed him right out of the way as they make contact the climate was able to spin it and get back on track and finish up in ninth but none of those incidents involved that number four he was so smooth we had the competition caution winner and Carlson tried to keep the number four honest pretty pulled away again shoutout to Corey winter holding it right there for the second place but it was all keiki Kincaid the entire time and Keegan there there's some excitement down at the finish line but Kincaid definitely showing that he was a the man to reckon with today looks like the second place machine of Corey winter has checked in so once again we will send it down to Tina yeah thanks Jason and this is Corey's fourth year here but before it's been in a pro light he came out here in the spring in a pro 2 and took third you've now taken second in the pro two at what is the beginning of a very big and important weekend take us through that race for you yeah I hope so it's off to a great start start was crazy almost pull the whole shot Keaton got her in front of me and then we had those multiple restarts that worried about and got shuffled back and just worked my way back up front tried running clean laps I told I was clear behind me and just focus on Punky and you ran a great race and I don't think I had anything for him that second half but I was sticking with him the best I could and yeah I just hope the rest of the weekend is gonna go as good as this and we know you got to go hop in that Pro light so best of luck with that and congrats on the second-place finish here thank you guys all right we're going to take a walk over to Brooks who took third made his way up and congratulations on the podium sir just take us through that race for you you started in that second row but you made your way up through that race yeah I haven't been out here in craning in about four years and this is my first time in my pro two we race out on the west coast so the second row had the big motors which that's why they gave the front row a gap of the four tens which which which was a bummer you know we we have to try to catch these guys and I think they gave them about like a 35 second gap so it's it's a bummer I have to drive through 16 16 of the 410 trucks and also battle my my field as well so you know it's it's a bummer that at least we made on the podium though so we caught we call it Andrew Carlsen last lap right here in the bar in turn and kind of did a bit a pretty 6ly job on him and made the pass but it's so hard to get traction here once that once the track goes goes dry man it's you really got to be on your a-game hit the cushion and really keep your own Menem up on the straightaways so I did that I felt really good in the truck today I just wish they would've gave a little less of a gap for the other trucks but I'm pumped to be here big thanks to Ridge ministries General Tire Bill Stein AMC and my whole crew we came out from the west coast so it's good to be here a big trip Congrats on that podium finish thank you guys all right Jason thanks Tina yes Jaret Brooks can take some solace in the fact that he did beat everyone from Row 2 but was never able to get Kinkaid or winner in sight so we get a little idea of how the two different trucks face off they will all be back to racing the world championships tomorrow we'll have pro light racing coming up here in a bit on our show and we will end it today on Saturday with pro four looks like pro light trucks are headed to the starting line we'll be racing there in a little bit but as we talk about the 50th anniversary of this race which is always big we know it's gonna be bigger than ever this time there's a lot of hype around Crandon this year [Music] [Music] 50 years of racing here at Crandon if you walk around the pitch you could tell us a 50th anniversary I mean it's packed so many campers pretty much every single so first off-road racers here for this 50th anniversary they're trying to make it the biggest race of history of short horse racing there aren't that many forms of racing especially on off-road that have had that many consecutive races and it kind of speaks for itself you look beside you and you got 10 guys on both sides yeah and they're all willing to take the same risk as you are I think it's gonna be interesting I think it's gonna be some great racing and a chance for them and a chance for us to see where we sit against each other and just to show each other what we really got and all our gloves off all these people don't even care what happens to the rest of the track they literally just crowd defense they get to wait for 20,000 won started from buying all at once there's three races here this weekend but we're all just here for that Club that big $50,000 payout and to put your name on winning the fiftieth anniversary the big issue of horse racing had the hands down no doubt about [Music] in no place like the Regency if you got the guts you know I can't imagine the show we're about to put on I'm excited and it's awesome and I think we're going to put on the best race that Charles Manson [Music] this race has been known as the one to come to for so long it actually had very humble roots the folks in this area were inspired by the original Baja 1000 Mexican 1000 who's called back then and they want to have their own version of that here so of course without desert terrain they set up off-road trails and called it the brush run 101 101 mile event kind of like the early days of Baja just try to finish that was the goal and in the early 1980s they moved it to this facility and turned it into a more traditional short course off-road race and anyway I really think we put it on the map was as big as it was here was a lot of the west coast legends like Walker Evans that discovered its event and said I need to go to Crandon I can't just race in my own backyard I got to put myself on the board of this event and really is what's made it so iconic that the best drivers from all over have to race through here absolutely and what really opened my eyes to what was happening here in the Midwest or in the eastern series when I was a kid a guy named Kurt LaDuke showed up at the Riverside Raceway where we raced our short course World Championship and Kurt leduc came out and was just unbelievable and we were like oh who is this guy I didn't even know who he was and he was just flying down Thompson's Ridge and he and Walker Evans battling it out and that really enlightened me to what was happening back here and the beginnings of the 101 the brush run such cool footage when you look back at it and see how tough the terrain was the mud the rocks everything they went through to create that race and I'll tell you what some of those historic vehicles we got to seat down at the parade and that was quite a spectacle also really cool as we get ready for our Pro Lite racing Haley Deegan on the line and her dad had just finished his races up in the spotter stand let's send it to cake a finish in fifth he has a race here Brian Deegan has a race here in a year and you came up here and said your truck was destroyed walk us through what happened out there yeah basically we're out from the west and the Midwest guys get a start first and we get to go when they let us go and so it's fine you know we got a race guys had to come through the slower guys which is always hard cuz they're kind of zigzagging everywhere and a lot of carnage as a kid like three or four or five restarts until they finally got it going I don't even know bud have enough gas honestly to finish the race and then we finding it going it was fun I mean it's fun racing this tracks fun fast and uh you know Brooks and I were kind of cutting through the pack here as the West leading the west coast deal and cutting through passing and then we got a yellow towards the end and then they held us but we had the leaders in our sights right there and then they did a yellow no and I didn't think they were gonna gap it as bad so they let the leaders go and there practically turned to three whatever going down the hill and they let us go we don't have enough time to catch them so the other day we could barely catch to the podium which was third so I don't know it's in their hands so whatever it is what it is I get it the local boys need to win so I know I get them from California like to win at home too so that's the way it goes let's take it to the track here Christian now from the track up here at the spot our senior spotting for your daughter Haley you and I were talking earlier today about how this off-road style really fits her driving style why is that I think she grew up in dirt so she's always been aggressive like coming through the Kart series the Lucas series of the Mod karts is all about really slight a lot of sliding a lot you know a lot of traction control and so she's been good at that and she had to go to pavement for NASCAR racing and adapt to slow in fast out which is totally different than off-road off-road is how fast can you send it into a turn which that's one of her best traits she's not scared like she'll just send it back it in and pass the guys you know on the inside and then you can't really use that in pavement racing but now she can use it here today and offroad so I just gotta keep her clean the Reese is really bad and like as a dad I'm always worried right it's my daughter so I don't like definitely don't nothing bad to happen to her so that's always as a parent think about that so I'm gonna keep her safe and let her have a good race and really gain more skill cuz if they love the long road is NASCAR you know to get to a Cup Series one day was the ultimate goal so we'll just keep chipping away at that but today's should be fun a girl isn't scared which is a really ideal way and mentality to be here at Crandon coming off the track what advice do you have for her here today I'll jump on the radio with her and basically took talked her through the track really this track right now it's really hard pack and so you have to run the cushion which is where all the softer pushes up in the turns you have to put one tire in that to get grip otherwise you just spin heat up your tires and you just go backwards so it's all about the cushion right now all right well we wish you and Hayley the best of luck here the rest of the weekend thanks Brian Jason thanks Kate so from one expert who just came off the racetrack Brian Deegan there are many experts here surrounding this racetrack and that's the fans so let's send it back to Tina Dixon oh yes the fans all right how excited are you guys that your local boy Keegan Kincaid just won that first race [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I don't know if I can chime in the fans here this is some of the biggest crowd I've ever seen here at Crandon I've been here a number of times and I'll tell you what for the 50th anniversary Jason you were talking about it there are a lot of people here if you didn't get your real estate a couple days ago it's standing room only for you but again we're just getting started the fans are still coming in and excited to watch the races Jason absolutely and they already got what they wanted with the local boy winning and you can see how excited they were about that now these fans are going to get to watch the pro light class which will be our next one starting on our show so Cameron Steele the atmosphere is great let's talk about how the race track has developed as you heard Brian Deegan mentioned it's pretty hard packed it always is fairly hard packed but even a lot of drivers saying more than ever so that cushion they're gonna be battling for that outside line a little bit here they definitely are trying to get to that cushion and as we said with the two-wheel drives both a pro 2 and the pro Lite there's one fast way around for the most part you want to be near that cushion it's kind of like a poetic racing style where you start to back it in you lean into the cushion you try to carry much as much momentum as you can a little bit later on when we see the pro forests they can rotate they can come in backwards of the corner and so you'll see a little bit more aggressive ability to pass down on the inside or use different lines where as the pro lights and the pro twos are going to need to use a more consistent line as we take a look at our lineup of course coal Mimer our fastest qualifier 23 trucks in total here so this is a massive field Ryan beat who is your points leader in the pro light class out west is second going to the grid in the number 51 Brock Hager has been very fast at this event in the past he's in the number 12 Mickey Thomas second in points out west he's in the 44 and Christopher Pavarti who has not just had a great season but a perfect season so far in the Midwest portion of short course off-road racing six starts six wins trying to lock down the championship today so watch out for Pavarti in that number 94 he is undefeated on tracks like this this year Haley Deegan awesome to have her racing with us as dad mentioned she's little busy doesn't get to do off-road racing full-time any longer but awesome that the deagan's made sure to ink this one in the calendar and say yeah we got a race Crandon this is big for sure and Haley qualified in that sixth position so definitely looking comfortable Ronnie Anderson in the seventh position then Corey winter was your eighth qualifier of course we just saw him finished second in the pro two and it's a stacked field of drivers shout out to Sean Morris they're the number 27 this will be his retirement weekend so to speak as what he was telling us yeah lepresean is in this field and he hasn't done much racing this year but he of course wanted to make sure he made it to the fiftieth Crandon so we bid him and do as a racer been at this for a long long time looks like they're getting it set for our pro like class just give me a quick breakdown of the difference in these trucks and what we have actually first thing we're gonna do as we analyze this land rush start is talk to the driver the number 51 Ryan beat about this start so the unique part about Crandon obviously is the land where I start we don't see it anywhere else with any of our racing so you know being a land rush start with trucks going into turn one with 28 trucks wide at close to 100 miles an hour I was pretty hairy you know it suits me it's right up my alley coming for Moto so I'm comfortable with it but it's still every lap is it's you know every time you line up there you know that there's a chance of a big gnarly crash you know you're set on getting the jump getting out of the gate and getting down to turn one before everyone else if you're out in front of Eros no one would touch it that's Ryan beat yeah former professional motocross racer so maybe a little more comfortable with this anyway I just want to explain the difference in this class and pro to which we saw race earlier of course the pro two's have the bigger v8 power plant these vehicles more in the 500 horsepower range as opposed to 650 and then of course more with the two different classes in Pro to a little bit less suspension a little bit lighter weight lighter weight they're a little bit more rigid to drive so sometimes it can be a little quicker because they have less suspension and are a little bit more rigid and there are a couple different types of engines inside of this category as well the difference in just making it as easy to explain as possible it's somewhere between fifty and seventy-five horsepower difference between the two different power plants let's talk to Christopher au poivre Rd the points leader here in the Midwest series about the start serie Crandon the holeshot ski I mean I've been lucky enough to get a few hole shots here and there I just makes your life away easier when you can see clean air if you're in the back it's just pure chaos you can't see yours hope and you're not gonna hit someone cars are flying so when you're out front you got that clean air it's just essential and I think it just puts you in the right mindset for the rest of the race so that's the number 94 of Pavarti who again has won six races in six starts here in the Midwest and that includes some racing earlier this summer at this racetrack Ryan beat has been banging on him all season long to get him in these races so those are two of the favorites in what is a huge field 23 trucks in pro lights and we're about to go racing once again here at Crandon actually gonna hold up one more minute we're gonna break cowboy back down to the line go hey Cameron and different than the pro to race where we saw the two different categories this is all one class there are not two different categories all the rules are the same you can just choose to run two different styles of power plant as we get ready to stage this massive class of pro lights and so if you were to take a look at off-road racing in general this would be more of the mid-sized truck with the pro to be in the class to move up to eventually and actually Ryan beat told us today he is making the commitment and going to pro to next year and so the question I have is does Krystal Pavarti hold up just win that championship or does he try to score that perfect season by finishing it out with a win here at Crandon and here we go they're checking the field so we are getting close gel and rush start that's a real judgment call full probe Rd here yes is he go for the gold and try to win seven races in seven events or is he just trying to lock down a championship did he try to save its equipment for the world championship racing tomorrow how will the number 94 plate he said honestly a lot of it will come down to the start if he can get out front obviously he's gonna go hammered to hell if he's in the carnage in the back then you might have to play it smart here we go a party does look to have a good start aimer has well had that best degree position from qualifying MAME are gonna get you on the bottom in one that's the number 35 the teal color but it's Paul var D from the outside the number 94 with the perfect season going so far leading the points here in the Midwest meet up 2/3 there were 51 that white Phil Stein machine so as they're headed into the gravel pit maker looking to get it so when the track is manicured a little bit some water put down they have to count on their spotter to give them the information on how the track looks for braking points and set up Liam a more going to the outside he's going to try to go outside and then cross to the inside makes no contact there look like there was going to be a little touch but it's pole Vardi may mer and beat and we're one lap complete and just barely one lap clean couple of opportunities for these drivers to come together they were able to stay out of it nice move and as I said they're a little more rigid and you'll see them get up on the bike easier and that with so many trucks we should see the track deteriorate a little bit especially in the primary line so watch them to be looking to go round the holes first going in in this section right here it was a tough decision by all the drivers because they can't see it how to set up a braking and you can see breaking traction is Ryan beat number cars having issues they're all party and maim are your top two pay more love and to back that thing in deep in the corners at least showing the door to your leader of a party party shrugging off that pressure feet now under pressure from Thomas who's in the number four spot and it's Brock Hager coming around in fifth all five of these trucks are still fairly close all in contention Oh Marni 19 years of age going to college in San Diego he gets to start school next week so finishing up the year with the perfect season a championship and then a shot at the World Championship I would definitely be something I'm sure he's excited about as we take a look at May Marin the number 35 let's see if Famer tries going outside to end this time around a little bit shading toward the inside look at the ruts that are developing already you can see of course the pro twos are out Oh looks like a bit of weird articulation on that on the front steering angle but everything looks okay oh the bicycle that's what we're talking about the ruts are gonna develop these trucks a little more rigid they're quicker to come up on the bike or two wheels as we like to say and maybre aggressive and smooth all at the same time driving through coming up on the bike just slightly already and as I said this track is going to develop brach Hagar in that fifth position in the red and white truck he's trying to make the move on Thomas no Thomas able to squeeze him off as we head back onto the star stretch that white and already number 12 is all over Mickey Thomas right now trying to make the move there's Ryan beat in third in the 51 trying to stay away from that battle you can see Hager wants to make the pass he strained out earlier coming out of one trying to get the advantage on running that speed down into to got to the inside of the jump a little bit isn't able to make it work but he is looking for lines around Thomas as he to race forward and get in a battle with for party Hagar still relatively new to this but he's already had some success he's won here before and he's trying to make the move delivery on that demented race wheels symbolic of the old f1 cars with a different sponsor but the same livery there it is down on the inside still can't make the move on Thomas Vicky Thomas has been so tough over the last couple years he came up into the pro light class and and really we weren't totally familiar forward to expect from him but then he just got so good so strong start winning races starting having so much confidence and Mickey Thomas is a big player inside this category ain't or not letting our leader go stay right there and so is Ryan beat in third and then you see Thomas and Hager continue to battle for fourth and fifth behind me and Ronnie Anderson hailey Deegan Sean Morris Cody Klieman and Jimmy white salt fat rounds out the top ten routes played three laps of nine here in pro light the 35 of Mayer has tightened it up a little bit to Pavarti will see if he can make a run there but pool-party getting out front on his own undefeated season having won one year of the year it would be hard to save Havarti doesn't know exactly what to do and he might make a mistake those are two things you need to have happen if you want to run up on a guy but someone like Lombardi who has been so spot-on in all point really rare to see any kind of mistake where the mistakes can come is where the ruts are the hole if the driver doesn't happen to see that developing can the spotter actually help the spotter see some of the holes developing before the driver gets there absolutely sometimes the spotter is watching what some of the other vehicles are doing it to try to be able to tell their driver where there might be a better line or where there's a hole developing something like that most of time the spotter is one force F focused on their truck but the spotter still has to be able to have some peripheral vision to see what's going on around the field so the spotter is giving that driver in the lead or driver he's talking to how much of a split he has so right now he's telling him you know you're plus five car lengths so it's it's pole parties racetrack to race he doesn't have to protect the line he doesn't have to cover the insides because right now if he just races the fastest line in theory beamers not going to be able to catch him neighbors still run in the low lines where he kid trying to keep our leader honest they pulled away just a bit from Bryan beat Mickey Thomas still holding off the 12 of Hager and then it will be Ronnie Anderson kaeleen Egan and lepresean Sean Morris coming through next climbing and Weitzel rounding out the top ten and it's really interesting because Havarti and beat both race both series they race against each other pretty much every weekend being in the Midwest or out west for some reason out west pete has been more successful and in the Midwest Havarti has been the better one and they really can't point to a big difference they're very similar trucks each time for whatever reason it needs bed rest races it has all rolled the direct the 19 year old out of California Christopher Pavarti and it continues right now because he's starting that stretching inch-by-inch the second-place driver on the west coast the tracks are quite a bit tighter and a little bit more maybe Supercross II feeling you know for the setup you don't carry as much speed through the turns this is more like an outdoor venue where there's lots of speed being carried at these trucks getting upwards to a hundred miles an hour the setup is so different the gearing is different and the way you attack the corners but feet has looked so solid as well I don't think there's something you can point out that's a clear advantage but definitely pole party I mean running a season anywhere is is amazing to be able to sweep the season running here where it is so tough and there are so many variables and off-road racing and to be able to have a clean season is is really a spectacular feat and he's looking to do it right now complete the perfect season here in the Midwest and get himself set up for tomorrow's world championship action and Christopher Pavarti has pulled away big time now and don't forget we're gonna have that mandatory caution coming up at some point we will stack them up and they will be nose-to-tail some aimer theoretically doesn't have to race up on pole party just now he just needs to protect that second position then when that full course caution comes out he knows he's gonna have a couple laps at least to do battle and try to try to take position but it's really going to come down a lot to that restart and how paper can jump out because we can see party is pulling more of a gap now an amazing story of how this young man got started in racing wait a minute we gotta check into this battle as Hagar has finally broken Mickey Thomas this should be the pass for fourth Thomas coming right back after him side by side and Hagar is able to lock down the spot took about three laps from to finally execute the pass and now it appears that the competition caution has come out so that was great timing for Hagar to pick up one more spot that Mickey Thomas has a little bit of site issue there his hood seems to be blowing up in certain cases in the center there which might make it hard to see the exact racing line we have a rack them all up hull Vardy setting in front of may mur who now on the restart will have that shot at trying to make a move we'll see if it's something that is possible but your running order Pavarti maim or beat Hagar Thomas Anderson Deegan Morris Kleinman and winner your top ten and the drivers will head back to the start area we won't run the land rush start again on the restart will do it single file so the leader does still hold the lead but the small gap 1.7 seconds that have already had built up will be erased Manor beat Hagar now and Thomas gonna have another shot at tracking him down let's send it back to Tina Dixon with an update on the race track yeah and Jason you guys were talking about the changing track conditions and the potential for those ruts to develop and really how important it is for those drivers to stay on their line but also something to look at where I'm standing it's off those first two jumps and it creates a lot of roost in fact there's a lot of dirt and mud being thrown out but it's also starting to get really dusty so it's something that we need to keep our eyes out for thank you and that's gonna be really interesting to watch as that develops especially remember we're changing truck specs every time we go out there on the racetrack we'll have four-wheel drive trucks with a lot more horsepower later on we'll see the track develops for them as we get ready for our restart yeah it looks like they do have hagar in that number-4 spot let's get an update on the what the drivers think of the mandatory caution here's Ryan beat on this situation a half way they're gonna regroup everybody and everybody's gonna get that second shot at you so you know it's really to get to the halfway make sure the trucks there for the second half and then you know for the second half it's game on you know everybody's right there and they're gonna be trying to take their shot at you dive-bombing to make the pass on you but at that point you just got to kind of stay calm focus ahead and just do your job stay out front well this time the Challenger Ryan beat is to go from third to first and we are back underway competition caution is complete here is the restart party leads him in may mur and beat second and third and look at the katanas trying to take the fourth place spot back but Hager holds him off Mickey Thomas trying to get to the bottom and make something happen look at this pool-party protects more down the bottom favor a little bit wider we'll see about the caring of the speed coming out of turn three maybe a very possibly strike eNOS is going to go to the outside in we saw him trying earlier here you go taking a look from the outside trying to slingshot down to the bottom and not able to make it work he's got to also watch out Ryan feet not far behind in that third position you're not only racing forward you're watching out for what's behind you but as my dad always said race what's in front and go for it I don't know how he was able to hold on to third because it looked like Hager had the pass made in the gravel of a P but say but again I'm now a mistake one of those holes one of those ruts and caught maybre now it's side by side Mae Marin beat in the back section of the racetrack down the bottom rotate the truck basically the way he sets it up and almost effect he was gonna use Beamer for the berm for the slow down there but he's got the run on the outside here maybe just a nose and all unfortunately it looks like by the lucky number 13 I believe got rolled there can't quite tell the number exactly maybe it's 13 maybe not here we go beat executing that pass for second see the yellows come out now yes they are so the yellow flag has come out beat made the move for second with that one mistake by Mae mer those ruts they make the difference I mean just that little undulation the truck the little straightening out of the steering wheel you have to steer into it to correct it to keep it from going up further onto or going over and we'll see when that caution came out yeah right we'll see if they score that with beat and second let's get an update on the leader in the 94 Kate what are you hearing Christopher privada his spots his spotter here was saying that a coy kruseman he was saying that he really enjoys being rabid I asked him what it felt like to have the target on his back because he said he we've had a full season of it so he is very good at being a rabbit they're looking to get an undefeated season here this weekend the real legend is a driver old man cory kruseman i'll tell you that that guy has touched the lives of many race car drivers of course quite the phenomenon of a driver himself but he has such a knack for teaching and explaining he is an excellent spotter an excellent coach a great race engineer having him in your corner is an unbelievable asset for sure and we can see I don't think Pete wanted to give that spot up now psyche officially they're saying that maimie retains the spot due to the fact that the caution came out so if your pole Vardi do you prefer Mimar or beat the youngster or the guy you've been going to war with all year yeah it's really gonna be a tough call hero though again he's not gonna be super aware of it I don't know if he even realized well he's aware he's aware you know that be made to pass or not well doesn't matter it looks like namers gonna be willing to put up in second now maemura at the beginning of this race was not afraid to try to run the low line and show Pavarti its door a couple of times and let us also not forget the name or was your fast qualifier so if anybody has something for Pavarti that the truck of Colm aimer should be a factor and especially now the tracks dried up a little bit maybe there's a little bit different areas to race on but also there's that cushion but now you got to watch out for the holes and that's what caught me Murr he caught one of those edges one of those holes and that gave beat the opportunity I'm sure the beat would have loved to have the ability to run here on the restart on pole party but it's not to be it's gonna be May Murr there in that second position let's learn more from the spotters stand while we wait for the restart send it back to kake activity of here in the spotter stand is pretty intense well as we know the Bryan beat is now in third they revert to the last lap but I did ask a spotter how he's feeling out there and he said actually he can't see with the Sun setting these drivers are up against not only the track but the elements out here as well Jason okay you've done quite a bit of racing here and also in the desert I'm sure you've dealt with this yes for sure that what really is a problem too is the shadows if you can't see looking into the Sun those holes in those corners and the ruts develop it can be tricky to read where they are so that's definitely a situation watch out for I was actually it's ironic that she brought it up because I was just thinking how tough it would be in a couple of spots looking into the Sun to be able to see where those holes are developing and by the way beat in third right now even if you were in second be taking on a lot of roost as well how much of the driving almost become instinct remembering left laughs there's another situation with a truck that has hood flipped up so how much just becomes almost memorization and rhythm over actually what you see well of course you can memorize the track you can remember what the feel is gonna be you understand what your tracks gonna do and your truck but the problem is as that track develops it changes every change the rut the holes the chunks the where the cushion is set up so all those things become a powerful part of your race decision-making in if you can't see them well well then of course that becomes very tough for the racing the one thing to mention of course is obvious everybody's on the same playing field when it comes to the sunlight or the shadows being a part of the vision issue the one person having an accelerated vision issue is Mickey Thomas who has that center part of his hood flipped up I'm sure Ronnie Anderson who's directly behind him will be thinking about taking advantage of that situation then right behind Anderson is hailey Deakin Sean Morris Cody Klieman and Corey winter round out your top ten here just past a halfway mark of our pro light final on Saturday and everyone moving back to race these trucks tomorrow as well but we're not done racing here once we complete this one we'll bring out the it gets easy to say the fastest trucks of all 100 Drive machines will be up next and that'll be really fun to watch if you haven't watched them before get ready because it is shocking to say the very least so as we wait for our caution period to be complete and get to the restart with Christopher Pavarti in the lead we'll bring it on in here to the booth Jason wagon and Cameron Steele so I have a feeling it's lived up to the hype you've been talking about it we've seen it with the audience the crowd the concert but the racetrack and the on track action a lot of the drivers said I don't know it's gonna be racy I don't if I can make passes and then what's happening in the racing they're all over the place it is unbelievable I mean the racing has already been phenomenal we're two races in and we're talking about a weekend full of excitement of course today finishing up the points rounds tomorrow in the morning we're gonna be doing the world championship rounds and then of course the cup races in the afternoon so much excitement but I think the track is living up to the hype because earlier we talked to a number of the drivers and they were saying oh yeah there's one race line and you know it's kind of got it like a heavy clay surface right now and we understand that's tough on traction but when you're looking at the race you're starting to see a development I think there's a couple places where there is gonna be some passing available not only that but as the track develops it opens it up more and more so I think right now the biggest character of Crandon is that race track well ain't arguably speeds are much higher than when they get to most short course off-road tracks some of the four-wheel drive drivers saying they could hit 105 almost bordering on 110 but it's not just that peak speed they talked about it's the average speed there might be one long straight at a track here and there here you carry the speed quite a long ways around it for sure and not only that you got to remember that when you're approaching speeds of 100 miles an hour or even 70 miles an hour setting up for those turns and the commitment it takes so the tendency for some drivers might be to coast into a corner or brake too early and that's one of the keys when it comes to racing short course or any kind of racing is knowing where that last moment braking point is where you can keep it smooth going through and Crandon makes a little bit tougher because of the off cambers the banking and the undulations and of course the high speeds setting up at 40 miles an hour in my opinion is substantially easier setting up at 90 miles an hour that's what they're gonna be doing maybe not quite that quick in these pro light trucks but still pretty darn fast and faster than they're used to going it's like we're picking up the pace and we'll see if we'll have the restart here in a moment with Christopher Pavarti leading the way in the number 94 driver out of California may mer second and Ryan beat third and beat it's gonna say adieu to this class after this weekend we'll be going to the pro 2 division in 2020 here's the Haute stuff Loomis yeah the damage is definitely tough and it looks like our restart order will be Pavarti maim or beat hagar thomas anderson Deegan morris Kleinman and winner your top ten and with a few laps of racing left to go the restart is always of course the place if you're in second or third or anywhere behind the first place vehicle you want to try to take advantage of any kind of little edge you can get and it's so tough to try to predict what's gonna happen so you try to make your move in second but you're not sure what that driver in the first place is gonna do and so on and so forth so it's it's pretty interesting to watch the different styles come to that restart looks like when they get to the Red Bull arch which will be between between turns one and two they will go green so the pace truck is about to move off and we are about to go racing five of nine laps now complete in our pro light racing on a Saturday you see where it says Cranham World Cup there that will be the take-off point the launch zone as we restart this race after a caution sounds like we're going to go around to the start then white and then green checker of course so we'll see what happens here as the green flag comes out remember not supposed to step out not supposed to pass before you go through the Red Bull Arch and we're anyway yep his clean neighbor trying to make a run but making a run is Rock Hagar and that fourth position getting shut down by a beat it looks like they're gonna switch lines take advantages Mickey Thomas he wanted to get him back and he does and Thomas almost got Ryan beat as well meanwhile look at me Murray's all over the bumper of your leader Palardy and he does he goes a little wide pull Vardy slides through the ruts does memer have a run no it's full Vardi with the Robin here comes beat not far back and the battle continues Mickey Thomas advantage over Brock Hager for fourth and fifth position but up front what we're talking about oh yeah May MERS all over the back side of your leader Pavarti both trying to low line in this hard left hander be sitting there in third watch and hoping to take advantage if they come together tightest corner on this racetrack coming up right here and this is gonna hook them back up to the start straight how will they play it who's going to go inside side by side trying to get traction the momentum will go to pull Marty I remember may mur has to be careful he's looking for lines around don't forget beat is there Hawking him as well and Hagar has got to try to figure out a way to repass Mickey Thomas has a good battle for fourth but the battle for the lead is back on again neighbor going everywhere your leader is and he's on the low line he returned to see how the opening eats looking for door to door if nothing else he's definitely Letty Pavarti and pull Marty Brooke traction just a bit there he's letting who've already know he's there he's building that energy he's building the story look at that party protecting down the bottom can neighbor get a runny cannot Bowl party from the bottom able to carry three momentum pressure being applied by MAME or maybe that will make the difference Kempe party made perfect may be realistic losses is front right wheel is gone baler is on a three wheel and that is gonna do it beats gonna get five a beat got held up and they are going to pull out the caution flag due to the damaged truck and what has happened here checkers out or bringing out the checkers okay the Lao it's the end so we'll see who officially gets the second place spot here I think Mei Meriva nan three wheels might have come across and gotten it so that's it checkered flag is out seven laps complete here in our pro lights and that was pretty wild on the line I think on three wheels MAME er might have held on for second definitely a wild finish we we said it would be the white and then the checker I was I was under the belief that they would go around one lap to that finished and then come around for white and checker so Christopher Christopher Paul Vardi the number 94 19 years of age living in Southern California runs the perfect series seven wins in seven starts from here in the Midwest short course off-road championship was a little bit luckless brawl racing out in the west coast where he's actually from but he'll take the wins anywhere he can get it not just a championship but a perfect championship season capped off with a win today in pro light on Saturday he is fired up excited youngster right there definitely fired up he's just got a great style and energy speaking to him in the pits all smiles everybody in the family stoked and that's definitely gonna put a smile on the sponsors faces and everybody in the pool party family and he had to sweat it out with that late restart not sure if that was the competition caution or because the number 13 of Brandon Matt Miller had flipped it but either way he had to hold off maim a right to the end he was able to do it for a perfect season let's send it down to Tina Jason seven starts seven wins a perfect series for you Christopher this was a big one the pressure was there you had the target on your back what were you telling yourself leading up to it coming into the race I just saw honestly I was so nervous I I've never been this nervous in a long time I don't even know if if ever but you know that start is I was sitting there shaking and when I came around and I was first ice I was trying to keep it under control there I was like come on and you know it was just down to the wire and that was insane like I mean I can't even like get it out I'm shaking right now I'm about to tear up like seven four seven it's been it's been unreal like I mean my whole team I got to thank them we put so much time in this year and it's all paid off so perfect season I don't know what else I don't know what I'm gonna do next year I'm gonna let you enjoy this congratulations not only on winning here but just the perfect series in season for you thank you guys it's been awesome I couldn't do it without stealing General Tire Optima batteries VP all them it's been so much fun and all the fans thank you guys Jason Thank You Tina an incredible story by the way he only got started in off-road racing because his dad was trying to collect rent from a tenant and they said can we just trade you one of these trophy carts because we don't have the money this month and dad said I'll take one of these I don't know anything about off-road racing put his son in it they got into it they got excited they have obviously gone full bore into it racing both of the Midwest and the West and now he's a champion and a race winner today Christopher Pavarti an incredible run yeah so on three wheels Mayer holds maemura holds hunt for a second yep unbelievable I mean coming into that last turn good the good news was it was the inside wheel so he's able to run the speed beat will be on the podium and Mickey Thomas and Brock Hager around out your top five then Haley Deegan Ronnie Anderson Kleinman winner and Keaton Swain in your top ten positions what a battle and you know actually I thought it was really impressive how the track crew was able to set up the track it it didn't deteriorate as much as it could have especially with that many vehicles out there and great racing all the way around I love seeing namers energy on the outside in trying to make something happen but Pavarti know missed a beat well we'll see what may Murs energy level is now we send it back to Tina yeah I'd say he's pretty excited Cole let's talk about that finish three wills and you made it happen though just walk us through that I told my team when we're going into this race we travel 2,000 miles to come here we're from the west coast and I told everybody we're coming to represent the west coast here and crane didn't and they drive across the finish line on three wills they need to have as bad as the seasons I've had this year to podium first day out at crane in I'm pumped we'll get that 35 off the record get that front wheel back fix I promise we'll come back tomorrow to fight for the win oh what a performance it was so much fun to watch this race Jason thank you and we'll send a shout-out to a falcon tire his sponsor there he got the job done taking second and they'll get all four of those tires back on the machine you can see how pumped up he was even though he didn't win and he was very happy and we're gonna throw it down now to Tina with third place yeah and you know the race here was just that end was made I think all the difference you were trying to make some moves take us through your perspective yeah that race is crazy you know top three of us four of us five of us were so close speed wide so it was like you couldn't make a mistake and my truck was set up more towards for the end of the race so we were trying to bite her time quite her time and then they shortened the race and then they said green white checkered and I'm like all right we got two laps get this thing done we came across it was like green checkered and I'm like oh okay here we go I guess we're done but gotta give a big shout out you know General Tire Bilstein Lucas Oil competitive metals everybody sports this program KMC I wouldn't be out here if it wasn't for them as first year getting to do east and west so it's cool you know we uh I don't know we got to find some speed to catch that ninety four kids in qualifying he ain't that fast and then he comes to the main and all of a sudden magically fast so I don't know we got a UH we got to put our heads down and figure out something for tomorrow cuz I'm not going home a third well the race finished quickly and guys what a performance down here yeah absolutely a mo re racket and let them all race again tomorrow and for some of them to do some repairs because we definitely saw some colliding some heavy on track damage and action in that one but everyone will be back in a moment we can show you some highlights from this one I've already did have the perfect season it did have the perfect race but it certainly wasn't easy especially not with 23 trucks in this field and pressure being applied almost the entire time a little bit of chaos on that start but I'll tell you they kept it very clean here in the pro lights and I love to see a big clean start so everybody can really get to race and right out of the gate may myrrh had that second position but Havarti controlled but I'll tell you may myrrh was willing to take the different lines willing to take the chances and here right away early he went outside in tried to show will tried to make something happen and speaking of making stuff happen Hagar was back there doing work him and Thomas were really a well matched battle going back and forth unfortunately they weren't able to move forward to try to battle for that win but lots of great racing here it is on the final restart yeah a couple of drivers and also we thought they might do one complete lap instead they were gonna pull the checker right after this this becomes the last turn tire comes off after this battle as maemura gets close this is the final restart here and may myrrh knew he had to live it let it all hang out and he literally Tim had his part started flying off the truck well there's a lot of risk for these drivers sometimes the fastest way to get somewhere is to let it side load on the land as you saw Hagar get up on the bike there but side loading the landing sets you up maybe for that next turn or for how you want to run into it and you can see maemura had a good line here going into that final turn you see the white flag coming out now he's trying to find a way to race around he's willing to risk his vehicle on this last last lap which means sideloading on the landing may be smashing it a little bit harder than you normally would but he wanted a shot going into that final turn and he tried to make the run and really I mean he was he was on point all the way through and losing that wheel finishing on three wheels is a great story but not the story he wanted to tell so do you think that sideloading perhaps taking a little extra risk is what led to the damage it's intentionally possible I mean any time you land impact on one wheel or side load the edge of the truck the truck is designed to land straight ahead off the big jumps not side-to-side so to speak okay so pro-lite racing is complete we'll have Pro four here in a bit but let's send it back now to Tina with an update on the tires and Cameron you and I were talking earlier about the tire so I wanted to see specifically what goes into it both the Pro Tools and the pro four so take a look at this this is a pro two and it has to be a d-o-t tire Department of Transportation meaning it has to be available to the public someone off the streets can go into a store go online and purchase this tire and that really is to make it cost effective and also open up opportunity for both the driver and the manufacturer and then there's the pro four tire this is a project tire you cannot buy this tire in the store this is what it first looks like as a slick and then they go through and they custom cut they put these grooves in it's a lot of work and time but they really customized it for that driver and I've been watching these guys and they've been putting their heart and soul into it a lot of behind the scenes work goes into creating the masterpiece [Applause] all the tire brands have come here you know to Crandon have to have a tire that can go over 100 and do it 10 laps in a row and have extreme temperatures blue guru tire like it's gnarly what they go through we got switch to a do T tire this season just basically an all-terrain tire that we groove up the prep goes into just cut depending on what track we run on it's been a learning experience and definitely a game changer now that we went to do T is is finding that correct setup for them we start with a blank tire and we can cut them any which way you want so you can create magic or disaster we know it's hard back here it's really slick so preparing for that you chose to make a tire change and move towards more of an all-terrain tire more of a hard pack you know surface tire instead of a mud train tire you know sometimes if it's a heavier track the tracks will get heavier in the cushion or if I'm gonna run dry slick you know we have different cuts there ourselves for that you're always watching the weather as well that's it's not just a it's solid whether it's gonna be dry or wet we kind of have to groove them for it to be dry and then if all the sudden the rain comes we'll kind of open the tires up redrew make figure kind of tread so it digs into the mud I'm here at Menzies Motorsports with Charlie levy the guy who kind of oversees the team your crew chief spotter for Bryce Menzies but today we're talking tires and we're starting with a blink here how do you go from a blink into making sure these tires are set up and accurate for Bryce first off this is a tire we get from Toyo we just call it a blank as you can see it has no grooving done anything like that so what we like to do is start a little bit smaller grooving and then we'll kind of work into a more aggressive grooving as as the day goes on and as the weekend goes on because the racetrack changes so the tires and the grooving have to change also how do you know when Bryce comes back what it is exactly he's asking for if he had once a little bit of understeer oversteer will kind of focus on the rear longer lines less side bite that type of thing true differences between the front and the rear are what the true difference between the front in the rear if you don't mind me just showing you the front you're really focusing on steering so if you look at most of the grooving will go sideways and most of the grooving on this will go the long ways so there's actually five grooves that run through here every time the dirt passes through a canal it'll it will hit something every time you see a mark it will hit something what that does when he turns it'll actually grab the ground like that now if now if it would turn to good we could actually put more of these slots in it which would give them a little less steering input and on the rear we run these longer lines that way let's the back end slide out real easy an intricate thing for sure it so from the outside perspective there's so much that really goes into making sure these trucks are set up the right way but I think having a guy like Charlie on your team who's gonna make it go alright we'll just the best to you and Bryce out there I appreciate it very much thank you thanks Kate having Charlie on your team is a huge I mean that is something you definitely want to have the Menzies Motorsports team phenomenal top to bottom and Bryce Menzies is one of the great drivers of our sport I mean he has a commanding presence in both short-course and desert racing of course we've seen him in rally that the young man can drive a race vehicle like few others yet won this race in the most prestigious event of all the Cup race in 2017 and no matter what other exploits he's into sometimes erases a full short-course season sometimes he does not but Crandon is always on the list because this is as they say the big house and you want to come here he's also more West coast-based but you're gonna come to Wisconsin to race its event now I just want to get back to the tires and that's really gonna be the key is we have our four-wheel-drive trucks it's now the only class that has those custom tires it blows my mind to think there's so many things they could do to change the truck setup already and then they can change the truck dramatically with the tires themselves it just seems that would be so easy to get lost with so many options at your disposal it's a very good statement Jason because not only in tires but you talked about spring suspension setup sway bars there's so many different styles and so many different things you can attack for instance you might be chasing what you think is a suspension problem but it might be the way your steering input is handling Wow and you and then you might be thinking one end of the steering is doing something and you got to figure out what sway bar is the problem do you need a thicker or a narrower sway bar and so and it changes for tractor track and just even on one track when the track changes as you've heard the drivers say talking about it getting heavy or getting blue groove you want to set your truck up differently for each particular setup but most drivers have a common set up that they feel comfortable with and here are the drivers gonna watch in pro 4x4 and a big field not as big as the previous classes but a lot bigger than we're used to seeing in pro 4 because it is the 50th anniversary a lot of the drivers they all have this one on their calendar as they must do CJ grieves very famous at this facility the greaves family he has the first spot on the grid Bryce Mandy's in the 7 Johnny Greaves CJ's daddy veteran multi time winner here certainly a crowd favorite Adrian Jennie Wildman definitely not afraid to throw it sideways and he'll do some damage as well if he has to just an all-star cast here absolutely I mean so many big hitters mid tagging anderson known for winning Scott Douglas reportedly in his last weekend of off-road racing which is a huge story thirty years of professional racing and speaking of huge stories you see Kyle LaDuke in there having Jamie Flannery come back after so many years not racing to be here for the 50th anniversary is a huge part of the you're here with the Flannery family yeah the original superstars of this event the Flannery family Jack Flannery one of the all-time legends here Jamie hasn't been racing in quite some time actually got a vehicle from the Kincaid family to race here in pro four and just do it for the 50th anniversary let's check in with RJ Anderson with more thoughts on racing here I can't imagine the show we're about to put on we have a land rush start here in cran and the only course has a land rush start basically it's a motocross start where they drop the flag when we all take off at one time into a 100 mile an hour right-hand 90-degree corner so it's it's definitely it definitely makes your hair stand up and it's a show for the fans so I'm excited and the truck count is awesome and I think we're going to put on the best race that the short course fans have ever seen and RJ will be a contender here in the Polaris RZR fact machine now he already saw the number 15 of Andrew Carlsson in action earlier in pro two now Carlson has his four-wheel drive machine ready and we'll see how he fares here he was battling for third in pro - Andrew Carlson one of the rising stars in this sport let's get some thoughts from him I literally have to visualize my truck in the corner first and I think just doing that it makes me so much more confident and when I'm confident I react quickly and when I react quickly I hit the flag first and I'm the first one and it just it kind of snowballs so the biggest thing is just like positive vibes that the words of power and your thoughts have power on that type of deal so just being super positive and just optimistic and how I'm thinking well we'll see if that helps to the number 15 I trade definitely of people that win are successful in racing or anything is they believe they can do it you know you go to the start line I mean you don't come to the race not to win but and looks like I'm in a false start there I'll start on the 23 of Jerry Daurio and then he starts to back up and then they go green here we go land rush start the fastest machines that you're gonna see a credit all weekend everybody's on their feet as they go through what Bryce Menzies in control just ahead of CJ Greaves Johnny Greaves trying to move up he's fourth can he get to third no Bryce Menzies gonna control it in the turn - in the number seven [Music] and you can feel a thunder from these machines the most traction the most horsepower and we're into the gravel pit we are in the barn and you can feel the thunder the rumble everybody is on their feet big horsepower on the track and you can see the drivers with different styles able to able to back it in download drive around the outside a bit more and right now contact Scott Douglas and that white hands oil truck brought it right up to the rear bumper of Johnny graves nobody had the pass made Greaves able to hold them off Doug mid tag is the driver in third in that white truck trying to keep the heat on CJ Greaves while Bryce Menzies tries to get away with the lead there's been seized and Bryce has not been doing short course racing Scott Douglas take the shot a bit tag in tag goes wide Johnny Greaves able to control that remember they have not had a sighting lap Riots goes way wide here comes CJ really looked very wide he had to get on the binders there to bring it down a tow truck coming around and that looked like it was a 91 - Kyle Chaney and it looks like they'll be able to get him ride it and keep moving the yellow truck Jerry Dougherty think it's Hulk in the 10 cross hoped in the 10 spun it let's see if the yellow comes out or not as Menzies continues to lead CJ grieves Shawny Greaves was able to get around mid tagged so it is now son and father second and third rj was able to somehow also get around Douglas I believe RJ Anderson is right there let's see no Douglas back around it's so great to see Scott Douglas right up in today talking to them he said he felt so comfortable he felt he had a great truck one of the sessions he said he was the quickest and I think just aiming all the way around like this a battle for the ages Scott Douglas riding our upside mid tag trying to get underneath Johnny Greaves I don't know how a mid tag was able to recover from all that and fed everybody off he's back in front of RJ Anderson and now trying to get Greaves this would be for a third so mid tag lost two spots he's taken him right back thought he had the opening there for a moment didn't quite work out Menzies has really opened it up so we'll stay focused on this battle with the greaves boys giving Bryce Menzies clean racetrack with no roost no one to deal with in front of him is a dangerous situation price does not make mistakes Bryce is on point he knows exactly what to do and when to the nominal equipment and lots of time behind the wheel [Music] staying close to the inside there on turn one both CJ and Johnny grieves and again we hear it from our post here in the very famous Florida Crandon thunder in the air literally makes the ground Rumble as he's nine hundred horsepower machines come through CJ trial hold off his dad into the gravel pit dug mid tank is not taking any gruff from anyone they roughed him up earlier he's trying to come back and reclaim that third place position mid tag is definitely a driver who is willing to be aggressive willing to throw but he's so good at hitting his lines and also exploring just a little bit of finding where there might be other attraction as we talked about with the pro fours they're able to race in a couple different places the pro to you very much want to stay on one line and yes there is a best line for the pro 4 but with the all-wheel-drive the ability to take on some different lines you can see that Sun coming into the cab we talked about it earlier and that's something the drivers definitely have to deal with especially going back here and the far back as they get ready to join back into the start strain that's priced Benzies beer on board the later mid tag of the 81 and Anderson to the 37 putting heat on the greens the family second and third right now and that's what makes its race so unique CJ Greaves the points leader in the Midwest off-road series doesn't you have to race price fancies so you never know what's gonna happen when they face off here at Crandon it's often uncharted territory CJ was fastest in qualifying but Bryce Menzies getting the edge on everyone here in the race [Music] menzies with looking like a 20 truck they lead currently there is the number 7 and Menzies just really putting it all together setting up the drift perfectly you can see them controlling it from wheel slightly moving around to get the exact placement you tire grooving that team will talk about so many different aspects and they've really a complete truck together that's a work to do there's a very famous parade and kicks off the racing at noon Friday's manual transmission trucks stop and go traffic in a regular sniffing stick-shift with a clutch that's to hold 900 horsepower back they actually burned the clutch up yesterday in the parade that see more damage than the Racing D but they've obviously got it dialed in means he's pulling away fantastic three let's make it four way battle for second CJ graves Johnny greens mid tagged Anderson looks like dad wants to get around it does look like I see Johnny challenging and let's not forget we are gonna have that mandatory caution so if Johnny feels like he has a faster truck he might want to try to get that pible we talked about the side loading the risk mid tag was getting ready to set up for a side load and he just drifted a little further off that jump and here Wow one of what amazing set of driving by midtech I'm sure getting hard on the gas to keep the truck coming around and riding driving forward as father and son dad Hawking the youngster taking a look down the bottom can he get a bit of a slingshot to pull alongside on the outside here great racing now CJ's got the better of his dad most of the time this year only one win for Johnny grieves in the points races but it looks like yes he might have a faster truck right now but the fastest truck is this one the number seven of Bryce Menzies Menzies Motorsports machine absolutely checking out and really serving some notice now that how things might go in the world championship races since the boys raised foremost and Menzies is not involved in any championships we didn't know how hard these guys would be willing to go obviously pretty doing hard if you're Bryce Menzies he doesn't care for the points or not it's going for the win knowing Bryce and talking to him I'm very calm demeanor when you chat with him but man when he gets inside that race truck he is he is always out for the win and of course a smart racecar driver he can't drive four points or whatever his situation is but most of time you see Bryce getting that truck he's out there to win and as we all are but Bryce specifically he knows he can do it whenever he gets out on the track and ballad with the greens boys this is spectacular racing right here between CJ and Johnny Johnny right there in the 22 and CJ in the 33 trucks are not identical actually some of the newer technology on CJ's truck but Johnny could tell us yesterday you really don't know it's all in theory and I believe the competition caution has now come out and they're gonna slow them down anyway just because CJ is some of the newer ideas and suspension geometry that doesn't mean in any individual race that it could potentially be better for Johnny and the more proven equipment mid tag somehow is able to save it and hold on so he will be in fourth Anderson Carlson Jamie Flannery Ross hope Dinsmore and Changi our next just a good look the drivers get a chance to take a breather throw the visor up cool down cool the truck down temperatures will come down the all the cooling systems will be working and yeah it's a cool down lap so to speak but big racing to come so yes with this mandatory caution let's get at the idea of what the drivers think of it here's Bryce Menzies thoughts on the competition caution when you're running the race and you're in second in the mandatory cautions coming up it's you want to push the guy that's in front you in first so he doesn't have time to slow down and you know save his tires and save as equipment but if you're too far back it's kind of the same thing as well as you don't want to you know waste your tires and your motor and your transmission so it's kind of a game of strategy when you're out - everybody has a different idea what they play with it but you know I kind of look at it as like it's almost two races where you got to save your equipment for the second race as well as the first one so that's Bryce Menzies there they didn't push him that hard but huh the bad news for everybody else is a price is saving his equipment in the first half but we only got a wonder what he house for the second half but Bryce has been spectacular thus far again the running order Bryce Menzies / CJ Greaves Johnny Greaves the father of CJ running in third then Doug mid tagged RJ Anderson Andrew Carlsen running in seventh Jaime Flannery than Ross Polk Kyle Chaney and Travis Dinsmore as we come to the restart we are green here we go so now CJ graves is white on the back bumper thanks to the competition caution let's see if he could try to make a move for the lead of Bryce Menzies Johnny graves dug mid tagged and RJ enter sit around out of the top five critical juncture CJ way down to the bottom trying to go third to first and MIT tagged almost tags Johnny Greaves to try to take third and it was a critical moment for Bryce he chose the line he wanted he took what he felt was the fastest line he may have left some room at the bottom but he knew exactly what he was doing he was taking the fast line he had a couple car lengths on CJ and look at this he's opened up a five car gap or four card gap already and Bryce nailed exactly what he wanted to do you see him having a transfer through that rut there he goes a little bit wider going in there it carries a little more speed out then CJ and Johnny it looks like but he did have to battle through that rut before he got completely turned into that corner Johnny grieves down to the inside on CJ grieves again got side by side has not been able to quite seal the deal and make that pass for a second Johnny gets kicked a little bit down the start straight loses just a little bit of ground CJ grieves now trying to stay with Bryce Menzies and we'll watch the lab counter this from the backup rice Menzies truck he's choosing the outside oh he is way to the outside he's broken yes Chuck's out of control can barely reel nothing back CJ Greaves the beneficiary has the lead dad trying to take it away well that has changed in a hurry and it looked like everything was headed Bryce Menzies direction and then as we had the on board simply saw CJ gave shoot pie and Menzies is gone to the back of the pack and it's left now for the famous Greaves family to battle it out for the win well secretly speaking because I'm more in that age group with Johnny I'd like to see Johnny come up and race with CJ Vince he's still going I have to assume he's gonna pull in but CJ has been so good I mean CJ a phenomenal talent always puts it on point just like Bryce you know doesn't make mistakes and we'll see if the dad can make a battle out of it or we'll see what the teammates do they they run out of the same pad of course father-son work together on everything and it's a it's a great relationship that they have and Johnny running hard right behind CJ then Doug mid tank sitting in that third position and what some of the radio communication might be a drive line maybe a four-wheel-drive problem for Menzies that's why I was able to keep going but not at the same level of pace Shawny craze is not letting his son off the hook all over him now's the time to tell the story Johnny Greaves since 1998 has 99 and wins if he could win here today it would be his 100th win and he goes underneath CJ trying to take that lead position he's in the drag race CJ in position but watch for Johnny to try to dive back up to the bottom here we go Johnny's got the line he wants mid tag is right there as well from 3rd the 81 of mid tagged a factor here comes RJ Anderson as well now remember trucks set up may vary from truck to truck team to team but you might have a better truck earlier than some drivers but other drivers might have a better truck later when it gets more running up and look at this midtech comes sliding down the bottom why he is side by side with Greaves he takes the position Greaves drops back he may lose a spot to Anderson as well RJ Anderson to the 37 so just like that it looked like it was a matter of win with Johnny Greaves make the move for the lead instead he's been shuffled back to third and it's duck mid tag on the we'll watch that spot grades and RJ Anderson fighting hard for third it is a dry race on the fastest section of in all of Short Course off-road racing the Anderson might have been able to execute that pass we'll see in a moment now it's mid tank China's zero in under leader the 33 of CJ Greaves and of course we're talking about the season points championship CJ Greaves has been leading that and of course by winning that would take that championship [Music] and mid tagged throwing down carrying a ton of speed the middle of that turn but catching a bit of a rub we'll see what happens here time is running out it's CJ Greaves and Doug be tagged to the youngsters of our sport going to war as the white flag comes out oh this is gonna be great we've seen MIT tag it's not afraid to throw it in there and get aggressive to make passes he already made the move on Johnny Greaves as soon as he saw an opening to take second can he take the ladies Braden hot trying to come in high with the side slide that's how he saw him get up alongside um Johnny CJ let's see if he can control it right down here the checkered flag it's going to be in sight back down the start straight does mid tagged him anything figured out maybe the gravel pit may be the very last turn where can he try to execute the pass first he's got to make up about eight to ten truck lengths on CJ Greaves and they're back in view of the fans CJ pulling out a bit of a gap there coming out of that last turn and through that start straight coming around through the barn turn two headed for the gravel pit is there anything mid tank and pull out which line we'll see Jake Reeves the leader choose Willie keep the door open the outside Willie try to protect mid tag down on the inside crease makes it off the corner only one turn left checkered flag will be in sight been a great season for CJ Greaves and he wants to cap it with the win here at a Saturday Crandon mid tags had a room at a time there is CJ Greaves holds on tremendous pressure applied by Johnny Greaves and by Doug midtech but the Kate holds on again whoo maybe even got some dirt under the visor there or even some sweat because they were making him sweat for it it's not hot out here today but the pressure certainly was applied and you can see the machine has gone through its paces as well but CJ Greene's conkers Crandon again great racing you got to love the energy and the style obviously Bryce Menzies so commanding early in the race has a failure but remember you got to get it all the way through the race and CJ CJ did just that hats off the mid tag making the moves go for it get to the front bit of contact there with Johnny I'm sure Johnny's not going to be very excited about that but you know door-to-door contact we didn't get to see the whole thing so we can't really say exactly what happened RJ Anderson another youngster in our sport rounding out that podium so CJ Greaves holds on he might not have been the fastest truck on every single lap but he fought for his position all the way and then when his dad Johnny made the mistake the tag got around that gave him a little bit of a gap and there it is the celebration begins in front of the packed grandstands and grass seating areas here at Crandon as they head down toward the second turn CJ Greaves has done it obviously second-generation driver and last couple years picked up a lot of time in the seat of the side-by-sides as well so just continuing to hone his craft his dad a living legend an icon in the sport and CJ continues to tell that story of his own as he becomes that that racer that his dad is the champion the the go-to driver in the sport he is creating his own legend and firmly a great drive all the way around for CJ here today and this will be enough by the way for him to clinch the championship as you mentioned in the Lucas Oil Midwest off-road championship but really it's about coming out here at Crandon not only winning on Saturday but setting yourself up for the world championship races tomorrow and this will give him the position that he wants by taking his victory looked like it might have gone in the direction of Bryce Menzies for a while but they were keeping him honest on the restart with a competition caution and then there were problems for the leader CJ took it from there and all the pressure they applied he never made the big mistake and let them have it and he's rewarded with a victory and now they can let it flow [Music] CJ Greaves has taken the win in a pro four and we will send it down to Tina Dixon yeah thanks Jason and after that mandatory caution CJ thinks really started to happen out there Bryce was in the lead he went off he had some problems you moved into that front but it wasn't gonna be easy for you give us your assessment of what was happening out there yeah you know all these guys are running fast I mean Bryce had a really fast truck and the son was crazy I just wasn't as brave as those guys even at the end of the race coming into some of these turns the Sun was completely blind you're kind of guessing where the wall was and I had a championship to win before I needed to win that race so at the end of the day we were making sure that we didn't make any big mistakes so we can walk away with another championship but it all worked out my dad was in second apparently the West Coast guys liked to punt people but I guess that's the way it's gonna place so the Monster Energy Toyota ran great Max's tires were hooked up awesome method race wheels Fox shocks everyone that helps us out my crew thinks it's a new truck we're gonna keep tuning at it and it'll be ready for tomorrow tomorrow's a big day World Championships the Crandon Cup how does tonight's race set you up for that oh yeah today tonight's race is qualifying for tomorrow so we'll get first pick at the line for the morning race and uh after that we'll see what happens exciting stuff out there well done Jason Thank You Tina there is your happy winner and he admitted it may be a little more conservative throwing it into the corners we saw a lot of pressure being applied but in the end they weren't able to get around yeah Greaves boys probably not too pumped on so the boost by mid tag but here are your unofficial results mid tag second RJ Anderson stayed in the fight the entire time held on for third Johnny Greaves pushed back to fourth and drew Carlson a good top-5 run flannery solid run has a raised here for a long long time in six premium yeah I'm super excited to see that because you know just the Stoke in the style when you're talking him in the pits today you they were just pumped to be out here and they come away with the top six is solid then Adler in seventh and you see the rest of the field there as the fans start to pack up let's take a look at some of the highlights I mean of course CJ Greaves will have a quite a highlight reel from this one but there was a lot of great racing and of course Bryce Menzies really saw it off that first start Bryce Menzies able to get the edge on the field he was second on the grid but first coming out of turn one and it wasn't just a start that was impressive it was how quickly he was able to start pulling away in that number seven so we focused on the battle here Greaves mid tag Greaves and Scott Douglas early on and he talked about Scott Douglas early on he was so quick we talked about the excitement of him retiring after this weekend but then all of a sudden he just kind of disappeared yeah this hate right here Johnny Greaves gets around mid tag Douglas hits him as well I'm wondering it just made my hair stand up that was so gnarly and I think it might have been the hit that Douglas took to the front maybe there was some damage to his four-wheel drive and that's what happened to him but that landing by matagi was unbelievable then the restart for Menzies you know it went well for a bit but then he got to that front jump and it just seemed like the truck laid down on him and just a heartbreaker here it is right here as you see him pull off to the side a giving way to CJ and Johnny break for the Menzies team but you know they'll be back at it tomorrow for the world championship in the Cup race they definitely established the speed but you got a love father and son duking it out in the front of the group well until mid tide came in and played the spoiler yeah he said it's not gonna be a private family duel up front I want to go for the win he saw an opening he went for it RJ Anderson right there to try to take advantage and get around Johnny Greaves and then midtech tried to say move he would say move again he was carrying that momentum tried to come sliding down the bottom and it just wasn't to be it was gonna be CJ grieves taking the checkers and CJ with such a spot-on Drive mid tag a great drive as well I mean we saw a lot of great racing great positioning of the trucks looking forward to so much more over the weekend so shots fired by several CJ Greaves obviously his statement is by taking the win but a lot of drivers going fast in their Pro four-wheel-drive trucks including Menzies who was leading until the machine broke you know that Johnny Greaves will be back with a vengeance tomorrow mid tag drove very well also very curious to see what Scott Douglas is going to bring which in tomorrow which will be his final day of racing as a professional Scott Douglas multi time winner here of Crandon and a legend so that'll be fun and our two-wheel drive trucks will be back as well will reset and have all the racing again for World Championship status we'll start it off at 10:00 a.m. central on Red Bull TV which will be later on tomorrow as well we'll have two shows tomorrow championship racing and then the cup racing where we put all the trucks on the track at the same time so thanks for watching this has been spectacular we knew the 50th edition of Crandon International offer a World Championship racing would be great and it has lived up to every bit of that for now we will sign off so for Cameron Steele Kate Osborn Tina Dixon I'm Jason Maia thanks for watching be sure to tune us in tomorrow because the racing is just going to get that much better [Music] [Music] [Music] you
