[Music] on kean's podcast the Cowboys Malik hooker said Micah parsons's should be fourth in line to get paid behind CD and Zack Martin and Dak Prescott listen to this I wouldn't put Micah yet I feel like Micah I feel like we still got a lot to prove from mic still has a lot to prove like he he's done a great job his first couple years in the league don't get me wrong he's a he's fantastic player but I feel like Micah still has a surface that he don't even know that he can scratch as far as what he's doing so I would say Micah I would say Micah's last just for that reasoning wow Kean how how surprised were you Malik cooker said that I I was I was surprised I mean but last to get paid so they got a couple guys that they got to address financi that you know Mike is going to make about2 half million as a first round pick this year this season they don't they can they address him this year though yeah they can address him they could get it done but they got Dak they got CD and Zach Martin still has two years left but you want to kind of maybe take a look and sniff around that so you can get him early for less money I was surprised though skip because typically as a player you don't really get into other people's finan mess unless I'm endorsing them to get paid so it's like well Should Skip be paid and Paul be paid which one goes first man they both should get paid both they both so I was a little so I tried to even help him walk it back a little bit and and he sort of did yeah he sort of kind but I you know I asked him the question the question was simple you got four guys coming up which one should go first because that's the conversation should it be CD lamb the receiver who had a phenomenal year you set him up key could you set him up could it should it be Dak Prescott should it be Michel Parson Zach Martin but Micah is on the side of the unit that he plays on on the defensive side though Paul so in the end I probably would have just said man all of them got to get paid period they need to get paid to a whole another level or even if you say CD lamb because right now all these receivers are going and all these receivers are getting paid they getting 30 40 50 60 7080 million guaranteed they getting money so CD naturally would be one Dak Prescott is is making $50 million this year mik is making I think two and a half so I would naturally want the dude at two and a half to jump in front of the quarterback and right slightly behind CD so that's why I was a little a little shocked although he he did acknowledge the fact that Micah doesn't do even understand where he could potentially be so with that maybe he's maybe he meant to say don't do it now let's wait in this completely back to bring truck up when you go off this year and there's no need to rush into it that's kind of what I was hoping that I was getting from this maximize your opportunity to get paid because if I always tell you when you go early you giving the team a discount you just it's just what it is I'mma get if I'm going early they getting a discount they are getting a discount you know and I and I you know Malik I'm sure Malik is like yeah I probably didn't want to say that yeah listen I'm not I'm not in the the football fraternity key and Skip but I am in the professional sports fraternity and I understand that there is an Unwritten Rule and you don't have to say this you don't you don't talk about another player's position on money ever and like you said not not in in a not in a way like he did I know he he didn't mean it probably like how it came off I get it but like when you speak on a teammates even if I didn't like a teammate and they ask me about him oh yeah he probably should get the max or he probably should be getting a new contract I mean I just think that's just an Unwritten rule when you're talking about in a podcast or or or or to the media when you ask asking about a player like yeah all of them at the same time it shouldn't be no rank in and how you know you you talk about a teammate a ranking order when it comes to finances like like you said and you mentioned it and and I know you tried to walk it back but I I just like man because as a teammate I'm looking like like what like I should be fourth in line to get paid you know like like lot I should be because what that does to me out of all the guys that's ahead of me they make more money than me so why not me be first it's time for me to eat right mik if I ate the less why do I have to be last more well he is probably out of the four I would say Mike is probably the most decorated of the four right now right not the most decorated of the four no I mean Dak is the he's he's the OG Dak yeah but but Micah is tabed as the next great pass rusher I agree I give you know Three Time pro bowl like if I sitting right there key and you ask me who hey Paul you know you got Ray Kevin and Rondo all in line for a contract who you think man all of them got to get paid all of them right they need to just sit them all down at one table and just had had had the sheets lined up right there sign them all on the same day cuz we need them but we need but what that also does for me is it reveals how somebody in a locker room perceives how somebody is supposed to step up to the plate because even with the Dak Prescott putting him behind a center I mean you know behind the offensive lineman is a little head scratchy to me because he's a quarterback well well it don't matter you know dakon made a lot of money already yeah but do you still I just feel like this can cause something in the locker room this could really like I got to call him today like man like you know you talking about this type of stuff give me some more love or something like like like for real I need you to like get like this is a sensitive subject to me I got a chance to take care of my family for a long time like well he didn't say he shouldn't be paid no I didn't say he just said that got to be address it later and address the other ones first if he can eat right now he can go into that J Jones right now and sign you don't think he want to do that right now what you think skip the oldest locker room rule is don't mess with another player's money period but Johnson John set him up when you stop he set him up he set him up man I just did my job ask him man a question set up question oh God stop set him up set Sean uh in another way this was music to my ears because what have I been telling you about Micah for two years he has not lived up and I we had him way too high up because we were putting him in the conversation with Lawrence Taylor he was in the conversation two years ago is he the next I understand I got it but I was and I did and I have regretted that because he has not lived up he has not been able to sustain very good starts to the last two seasons because he has tailed way off down the stretch of the last two seasons last six or seven games I might even go so far as to say he started to disappear maybe he got worn out maybe he got worn down because he's not the most physical player maybe the giant tackles just engulfed him teaming that's a lot of things a lot of things can happen but all I know is he has now played in four playoff games and in four playoff games he has one total sack and it came in a blowout of Tom Brady's bucks in Tom's swans song game remember that yeah okay so you got one cheap win in that game because everybody was sacking Tom in that game and that's all you got and last year I had to watch a playoff game I was forced to watch the whole thing in which you played the Green Bay Packers the youngest team in the league and you registered your worst stats of your career really good quarterback he is really good and he's going to be even better but the point is I start to look at this as maybe he broke the unwritten rule but I kind of like the constructive criticism I kind of like the motivation I kind of like a a safety on defense and I don't know if you can go as far as a leader but he's a he's a veteran safety maybe maybe he felt like it's time to call Micah out a little bit because it was constructive criticism he says he doesn't even know the surface that hadn't been scratched cuz had and scratched it man we we look at the package of explosiveness of size and length and and explosive quickness the likes of which I've never seen before at that what are we giveing 26ish or whatever 250 maybe but look man hey dude can go he can go he can go he just tails off at the end and he needs to correct that it don't matter all right but my point is hadn't scratched that surface if you could sustain if if you could get hotter down the stretch if you could start piling up the sacks you haven't even come close to being defensive player of the year in the last two years you were the betting favorite going into the year and then I think he's a betting favorite again I think he is I believe he is but you know it's like TJ watt just takes over down the stretch of a season and then miles Garrett he took over from first game to last game last season where was Micah where oh where are you Micah down the last five six seven games well maybe that's what Malik is saying he doesn't deserve to get paid yet he he needs to earn it and and if he could have a he hadn't had a breakout year yet to me yeah but he deserves to be paid though skip he can't do what he's done in the last three years this is the fourth year going into the fourth year of the Season what he's been able to do individually yeah not telling off at the end of games but just throughout the course of the Season he can't step on the field for $2 and5 million he just can't do it no he cannot do it at all whatsoever okay you just can't they've got decisions that they need to make from a financial standpoint Paul whether it's giving whether it's giving CD lamb making him the highest PID receiver in the NFL because that's what I would do right now whoever was last I need to go above him okay and then I need to figure out if I'm doing anything CD last year you saw it we saw Micah we saw Micah Michael was good enough to get paid he did enough to get paid he and we're not just paying him for last year we're paying him for the future okay we're projecting him out if you're not going to pay him skip then get rid of him let him go to Washington no I I hear you I'm just saying I like light in this fire I don't mind it but I I I know you're breaking the rule of the money rule here because you went to money to do it it wasn't just a a call out on your podcast not concerning money if he just said out of the blue to you right I I think Micah needs to to reach down and and and find something over the last six or seven games that we haven't seen yet then then I'm great with that but it's in the context of should he get paid before right Zack Martin just don't do right but even if but see even if he did I just don't I guess why I was trying to help him Mark walking back is because he put him forward yeah and I'm on that side of the ball so if I'm on that side of the ball I got to maybe put him somewhere else maybe behind CD maybe even get in front of seat cuz I'm on the side of the ball okay when he put him at forit behind Zack Martin I was like I was like oh hold on wait a minute let me help you listen from year to year I'm not sure Zack Martin's going to play another year like he's already talking about I don't know if I'm even going to play next year and you're you're putting him ahead of yeah really yeah even ahead of the quarterback is is kind of head scratching to me because Dak you you you know they're they are where they are with Dak and his contract situation I think Dak deserves to be paid at the top of the marketplace if he wants to give him a little bit of a sliver of a haircut cool but he ain't you know don't chop it all the way down because if in fact they go on to have success the Cowboys is going to be in trouble with now ponying up 60 plus million dollars opposed to getting it done right now and making it cheaper don't repeat the same mistake that you did a couple years ago that's why I would just go ahead and get D done and I have told you I believe inside that locker room even though they won't say it publicly that team is not sold on that quarterback that's what I believe and I think that manifested itself in in his ranking of who deserves to get paid I okay I can't argue with the locker room so Paul Pierce if you are Micah Parsons today are you trying to get in touch with Malik yeah we got to have a conation all right I mean yeah like like I said it's it's an Unwritten Sports rule it is you just don't talk about another man where you believe he should be paid at on the on the on the scale it's just you don't talk about that if you want to criticize him says he needs to Works more he needs to get better and all that stuff out the context of finances I'm fine with that you know you want to you want to call a guy out and and whatever but when it comes down to finances it's a conversation that's got to be had and I don't know if it's a face to face or a phone call but it's conversation today yeah all right today good good job Keanan set him up for that man if you don't stop man set nobody up I ask a question controversy I just asked a question man it got
