would like to round this up uh in in a sentence in French cuz we know you've been working on it welcome back to the set here in the Majestic and we carry on stepping up in the distance to UTMB and we are with now the three times Champion uh coordinator Walter welcome thank you for being here good morning thank you um so we've we've seen so much and and probably for one of the first time we had question marks in terms of you lining up to UTMB is like ah well there's been a few jogs prior to this one and so he like well how is that going to play out so I think the first question we we were all kind of wondering is that coming in into the race like how are you feeling like physically and also mentally it was never my intention to sign up for UTV this year my goal was uh the western states Hard Rock double see if I could survive both both of those within 3 weeks of each other and learn about the training and recovery for such a big challenge after hard rock though I um I don't know I just was wondering what if what if I sign up for one more what if I go uh experience UTMB again this year and hang out in Shaman with everybody and see if I can finish one more 100 miles this summer um but I had pretty low expectations my biggest goal was just to finish I was like it could be any time of day any day like I just want to make the loop because I had no idea how my body and brain would react you were like so many hours into the race and sometimes with Quiet Moments and that happens it was the most insane thing I've ever experienced I am so thankful for all of these people who gave up their day to be out cheering on all the runners but then then like there were signs like there was a cardboard cut out of my long shorts and like a toothpaste outfit a pizza blow up it was like all these things that just made me smile and um ultr running is hugely mental and so if you can get that boost of Joy it translates to energy which then you know can help your legs keep going so this was huge I was so dead by then my legs were not really responding anymore and this was uh the jolt I needed to get back to Shaman feel like you you knocked on that door and you came into the paint cave and started working at it I was working in the pain cave uh most of the night through Italy um but was still at least getting some response from my legs while I was in the pain cave um the climb the ca fet yep the big climb um it was starting to be like uh-oh what's what's left in there I'm not not sure there's any power or energy or like gas in the tank anymore in my legs and when I started the desent off of it it became really clear that um it was going to be a struggle physically to get to the Finish no matter how hard I was chisling in my pain cave it just wasn't quite translating to the forward motion and smooth running that I was looking for um my quads were just blown like any running motion I was just crossing my fingers and hoping that they would catch me where does it stop or in a different way where do you find satisfaction right now I'm just so curious what's possible so my thing I'm curious about right now is this pain cave and how our brains and bodies are synced up to help us do difficult things and I want to keep testing that for as long as it's fun as long as I'm you know feeling healthy going into that pain cave I just want to keep diving in there because I don't know what's back there and how far will it go and um what will happen that tells me that was the end of the cave you know so it's curiosity driven 100% more this UTMB was more a personal Quest um and we made assumption but then we always like hear it directly from you uh from a competitive perspective you've done these races and we assumed with again with Corin like we kind of start to know you a little a little uh what would be next and and especially outside of of competition outside of racing absolutely Colorado Trail is top of my list I think uh experiencing part of it living near it and um I just think it's 500 Miles roughly that's an interesting amount of time to play with because it takes people uh roughly a week to try and run it um and you're inserting then all these new variables and I think those long events where there are things like sleep or real food nutrition or the mental side of you know day four day five day six what does that feel like and look like uh that's cool adding more puzzle pieces to this already kind of crazy sport um so that's top of my list we'll see if uh maybe next year is the time to try it or next week just kidding please not next week but it's on the list for [Music] sure uh it hasn't really been in images but um just like Kevin has you know been working overtime this summer crewing me at all of these races my family family came out some of my family was here at UTMB this year um so sharing the moments with people has for sure been the highlight the races are a cool way to make memories together yeah and especially with Kevin you actually got to experience that the other way around so you were still sharing time but you switched roles exactly yeah I don't mind that crew enroll it's pretty fun it is can be stressful but indeed like it's it's probably relax button considering you you guys know each other so well would like to round this up uh in in a sentence in French cuz we know you've been working on it all right people can anybody bring your beer here because that has been Courtney's request perfect I see you you've you've mastered and the only thing you need to know in French yeah cut right to the important stuff right to the important step like no no no missing around cool well thank you so much for coming for taking the time to being uh like for being with us here at the Majestic once again congratulations we're super stoked that you came out of this healthy and also very happy that you hear to hear that you'll be taking a little bit of holiday and look after yourself uh and we look forward to seeing what's the next chapter for you and and keep keep chipping at at the cave pain paint cave thank you Mercy Boku
