So at the beginning of the new year 2024, today we are going to talk about the most in-demand topic that is the cost of living in Berlin at present. If you move here to Berlin in 2024, then how much will it cost you on a monthly basis. If we talk about basic expenses, you know that we are a family of two, so today in this video we are going to tell from our experience how much we both spend in a month in Berlin, so that you can get an idea if you are in Berlin. If you are coming to Berlin this year, how much will it cost you? If you have not come to Berlin or are going to come here in 2024, then you must watch this video till the end because from this you will know how much will be your overall expense by coming to Berlin. This will act as a guide for you but as you live for a year and six months, you will start to understand how things work here and how to plan your expenses. Welcome to our channel Lad in Germany. My name is Shubham and my name is Manhar. So let's start with your biggest expense of the month. That would be your house rent. If you move to Berlin in 2024, then the biggest chunk of your salary is going to go towards rent. When you come here, you will also see such families who have been living in Berlin for 15-15 years, 20-20 years and their contracts are for the same period of time. If you look at their contracts, the rent is going to be very low. They are managing their rent by giving you some 200-300 Euros per month and their biggest expense of the month will not be their rent, but in today's situation, the rents here are so expensive in Berlin because of the demand here. It is very high, this is the biggest stop. If any immigrant comes to Germany, first of all he likes to come to Berlin and the houses here are not prepared according to him. The number of houses here is always very high. It is less and there are a lot of immigrants here now, so because of this, the rents are becoming very affordable in Berlin, so if you come here in 2024, then be prepared that the biggest chunk of the salary will go to the rent. If I talk about our building, the rent of a 65 meter square apartment in our building is 1300 Euros and the rent of an 85 meter square apartment is 1600 to 00 Euros. This is to understand what is there in a 65 meter square. -What is available in a 65 meter square apartment? Generally there is a two room set, a kitchen is separate, there is a bathroom and there can be a storage room. If your building is old then it can be included inside your house. If it is not there, then you can get that storage room separately in the basement and these are the rooms in the 85 meter square apartment. These are three to four rooms. Basically everything else remains the same. So to understand this rent structure, one thing to understand is It is very important that there are two types of rents, cold rent and worm rent. Cold rent is the basic rent of an unfurnished apartment. No additional cost or additional services are included in it. Everything can be included in the worm rent. Such as basic cost plus your heating bill, water bill, your internet and electricity bill, everything can be included in the category of worm rent, but it completely depends on your landlord, apartment building, its parameters are completely different from place to place, our building. Within the rent we pay, we pay the heating bill and water bill to the owner, but for electricity and internet, we have made separate contracts with private companies whose bills come to us separately and at the end of the month we get the same as rent. They also have to pay. Our building is in the Altmühbet area of Berlin, it is not in the center but it is not too far from the center, so the connection we have with the transport is very frequent and the rent here is very low. Yes, it is very high, like we talked about that the rent of apartments in our building ranging from 65 meter square to 85 meter square goes from Rs 1300 to Rs 1700, while the rent in Prince-le-Berg and Mitte is very high . And if you talk about the outer areas of Berlin like Temple, Hof Trapp, Tauern Feld, Liston Berg, the rents here start decreasing a little bit, they will seem a bit nominal, so if you go to Fens Lauberg and Temple . If you compare the halves, you will see a clear difference and luckily we fall a little in the middle and feel very lucky that we got this apartment in such a situation when the situation in Berlin had already become very bad. Let us talk about the cost of utilities, like we just told you that the rent we pay to our landlord includes only the water bill and heating cost. We have to pay the cost of electricity and internet separately. For electricity, we have paid here. There is a famous company called Watt N Fault. We have signed a contract with it for which we have to pay 50 Euros per month like electricity bill for two people and for internet we have signed a contract with a local company called DNS One. And we have to pay 40U for our WiFi and because we did not have any other option, you can choose a famous company like here, when you go there, you will understand the structure of rent and utilities contract and get a general idea. It might seem that after moving to Berlin, you will have to take care of a lot of things in an unfurnished apartment, then it might be a smart decision for you to look for a fully furnished apartment if you are coming to Berlin for some time. You will have to pay mostly the full warm rent in that apartment and all the additional costs and additional services will be included in it, so you will not have to deal with all these contracts when you are coming here and you will get many things already ready. Keep in mind that if you do not want to get involved in all these maths in the structure of the contract, then for that time, a fully furnished apartment will be beneficial for you for a short period of time and if you are planning to stay for a long time after that, then you can move. You can live in an unfurnished apartment and then you can understand all these contracts in detail, then let's talk about the next section, that is the grocery and food bill. For a family of two people in Berlin, this bill will easily run from 350 Euros to 400. Euros, it is going to depend on everyone, what is their requirement, how much budget are you going to plan in it and it will also depend on which type of stores you shop in. There are two types of stores here, premium stores . Such as Revek Land and Edeka and discount stores like Toaldi Lidl. If you do all your shopping in a month from discount stores, then you can reduce these expenses. Prices of things are generally higher in premium stores. In our experience According to this, it becomes a bit difficult to completely ignore this segment or to make such a plan that we will shop only from discount stores because you will get all the basic amenities available in discount stores and they will be available at cheaper prices. We always try to do our shopping from the main places but there is not much variety there, so in such cases, when we have a preference, want to make a specific dish or want to try a new recipe, then we go to premium stores and try the varieties. Let's see if we can get the goods from there and in the end, the produce produced in premium stores is a little fresher than the discount stores and you get a lot of variety there, so maintaining a mix is possible in the end. If possible, let's talk about the next monthly expense, that is the mobile bill. The mobile plans available here generally range from 5 Euros to 40 Euros. The plan we personally use is with a company called Winson and it costs us It is priced at 7 Euros per month. In this plan, we get unlimited calling through out European Union and monthly data of 5GB. You can also definitely explore this brand and along with it, there are many other popular brands which you can try like That O2 Telecom, you can definitely explore these also, so this mobile cost also remains variable, it depends on what is your need and what not, so for us if we talk about this 7 Euro plan in which we 5GB data is available, that too is more than enough. Basically, even our 5GB is not fully utilized because there is WiFi at home and there is WiFi in the office too and if we have to make international calling then it is over WiFi over Internet. You have to talk to your family members about what kind of plan you want. If we talk about the next monthly expenses, then it will be transportation. The most popular ticket at this time is Dutch Land Ticket. It will cost you 49 Euros monthly and through this you can travel to any place in Germany. You can use local transport in any city, this ticket is not very flexible, its only down side is that it is less flexible, so if you want more flexible then you can take a monthly ticket which costs 99 Euros or you can You can take yearly subscription in which Your monthly cost will be 714 cents. This ticket is more flexible than the Dutch LAN ticket, as you can travel with one extra adult and your children for free after 8 pm every day and on weekends, full days, Saturdays and Sundays. Cost and if you do not get much use of your monthly tickets, subscription is useless for you then you can also use single ride. Single ride ticket is currently available in Berlin for 3 row at 50 cents which is valid for two hours. So let's go to the last one . Let us talk about the cost which is mandatory here, it is called TV tax, radio tax and this is a bit controversial because the government here collects this tax for the national channels here. These national channels are only The programs are broadcast only in German language and you have to pay this tax even if you have a TV in your house or not. And if you are an immigrant for whom German language programs have no meaning, you still have to pay this tax. And its cost is about 18 euros 30 cents per month, which is a minimum cycle. If you pay for three months, you will pay 55 euros here and if you pay for six months. Whether you make advance payment or yearly advance payment, your amount will be reduced little by little. From 18.3 onwards, let us try to arrive at an amount in the end that if you move to Berlin in 2024, then how much will be your monthly Expenses will be if we charge rent 1300 Euros, electricity bill 51 Euros, internet bill 40 Euros, on an average if we charge one amount, 375 Euros for two people, if we charge mobile bill, 14 Euros transport bill for two people. People's tax of 98 euros and the radio tax at the last 18 or 30 cents, so the total that goes into the raffle is 1900 euros, so you can catch this lump sum amount that if you move to Berlin in 2024, your Monthly expenses should be 1900 rupees for two people or on an average
