email subscription center choose the topic most important to you and we will make sure that you don't miss a thing well good morning and god bless you those of you who are here in our sanctuary and those of you who are joining us on the internet and live across the nation and the nations of the world dad each and every week we get an update here on my ipad of the nations that are watching and today all 50 states are tuned in but we also we have 44 nations that are watching from all over the world two of those nations that i think need to hear a word of encouragement today are russia and ukraine both nations are watching and certainly the world sees what's going on in the ukraine as an agenda of political power play is being played out there but i believe it's important to remember that there are brothers and sisters in christ both in ukraine and in russia who are suffering underneath the hands of a madman and i think they need a word of encouragement from cornerstone church today in continuation with the prayer that i prayed this morning there was a published letter from a distinguished citizen in russia that was in the wall street journal this week asking for the people of america to please recognize that this invasion of russia is the work of a megalomaniac vladimir putin it does not represent the will of the russian people it represents the will of a madman who is power hungry so to all of you who are in russia who love peace and love each other and love god our prayers are with you that god will spare you from this man [Applause] and also the picture this week of the mother with her three young children huddled in a tunnel so that they would escape the blasting of the russians as they invade ukraine her husband had just received a weapon from the middle from the government and he was out with other citizens fighting against the russians i i ask everyone in this audience and those of you watching by television to pray every day for the people of ukraine until this thing is resolved and if you know if you don't know how to pray it is a righteous thing to pray against the ungodly and you have a right to pray that god brings judgment to putin to the russians to confuse them to turn them on each other until this is resolved [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] i think if millions of christians in america everyone listening to me now would start praying i think you would see supernatural things happen amen that cannot be explained any other way it's a righteous thing to do turn god loose on it let's see what happens as as a side note this afternoon don and i are going to be flying to pensacola florida to speak at pace assembly in pace florida uh for their night to honor israel event and i invite our cfi family in the pensacola area to join us at the pace assembly now why am i doing this because i know the phone will start ringing next week for you to come speak here at my church this preacher i called him during the covid crisis because our high school girls basketball team got stranded in florida because their flight was canceled my granddaughter called me and said papa we need help brother that's all you need to do to get me coming after it so i went down the list who lives what preacher lives closest to this airport i called this preacher i didn't know him i said i need your help he said yes sir he went over to the airport picked up our team took them to a beautiful hotel and put them in there fed them supper put them on the right plane the next day and they flew home that man is in my hall of fame from now on [Music] so if you want him to speak at your church feed his grandkids that's how that works so there are a number of things that are going to be happening here at cornerstone and i'd love for you to come and be a part of them one of them is tonight it's our annual soul food fest and it is going to be a great celebration i want you to come tonight if you'd like to participate in the dinner it begins at 4 30 and that'll be before service in the live center and then our evening guest speaker is going to be jonathan evans he is the pastor of oak cliff bible fellowship in dallas he's the son of dr tony evans and he is going to be here this evening to share a word of encouragement and i know that you'll enjoy what he has to say next sunday night is a very special night i want you to mark it on your calendar it is going to be cornerstone church's celebration of miss diana hagee's 70th birthday the bible says to give honor to whom honor is due and next sunday night we're going to have a special celebration here in miss diana's honor and i'd love for you to come and be a part of that also i have this to mention today for probably the first time ever the preferred seating is in the upper part of the balcony because that is where the first installation of the brand new seats for vision 2020 are if you're sitting in some of those comfy chairs would you just wave at us from up there in the balcony see all those folks up there they're getting to break them in so they're going to continue installing the seats across the balcony and then by god's grace here at the end of the month they're going to have them installed all across the floor the grand celebration that is planned for the end of april the 29th the 30th and then may the first is called come alive and that's going to be the time when we celebrate the reopening of our newly renovated sanctuary and i want you to mark those dates down friday night's a great celebration saturday is going to have great bible teaching sunday morning is going to be john bevere and sunday night is going to be miss c.c winans in concert you don't want to miss what's going to happen here in april and in may i have a testimony that was sent to us from south africa several weeks ago i asked if you're watching and you would like to send a testimony to please do so and the email that i want you to send it to is pastor matt jhm.org but this one came in this week and i thought it was something to read and give you an idea of how far the reach goes uh whenever we discuss how many people are watching online this comes from tonkisso in south africa he doesn't name a city because he lives out in the bush so i don't know if you really pronounce your name tonkisso so i'm gonna call you tank for short but anyway he says dear pastor matt my name is tonkisso and i'm from south africa i have recently accepted jesus christ as my lord and savior and i want to thank pastor john for all of the sermons that he has preached they are making an impact on my life as i am learning the word of god i ask for your prayers and for the prayers of your church that god in heaven would help me to tell my family who jesus is may you stay blessed and guided always and in his word in jesus name amen kind regards tonkisso well god bless you tom kiso and thank you for sending that testimony this morning the way that we are able to reach places like south africa and send signals into the ukraine and to russia on days like today are by the ties and the offerings that we receive here that help us fulfill the mission of this ministry to take all of the gospel to all of the world and to every generation today if you would like to participate in giving there's a number of ways to do that here in the sanctuary you can give by coming to the altar or going to the back of the pews in front of you where there's a place that's been prepared for you to participate in today's offering if you're watching online you can go to sa cornerstone.org forward slash give there you're going to find the giving page of our website or if you'd like to you can take out your smartphone and text the word give g-i-v-e to 210-880-2300 call us at 855-694-9653 write to p.o box 34930 san antonio texas 78265 pastor would you pray today over the offering lift your hands toward the thorn of grace our most gracious heavenly father we've gathered in your house today to give you praise glory and honor for all that you have done for us we ask you now just to bless our brothers and sisters in the ukraine and in russia and we also ask you for every person with their hands lifted now in this assembly and the homes that are watching in america and the world that you pour out your prosperity your divine and supernatural health and healing and blessings that brings love joy and peace to the people who are participating may the kingdom of god go forward and the light of truth crush the prince of darkness in jesus name we pray amen [Music] um [Music] bad [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] bye um [Music] [Music] [Applause] so [Music] i'm calling on the god of jacob who's endures through generations i know that you will keep your covenant i'm calling on the god of moses the one who opened up the ocean [Music] i need you now to do the same thing for me for me oh god my god i need you oh god my god i need you now how i need you now or i can rock of ages i'm standing on your faithfulness on your faithfulness [Music] i'm calling on the god of mary [Music] whose favorite [Music] day [Music] oh my god i need you now now i need you now [Music] [Music] oh god my god i need you oh god my god [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] you hurt your children you hear your children now you are the same god you are the same god you answered prayers back and you will answer now you are the same god you are the [Music] you are the same you [Music] [Applause] oh my gosh [Music] is [Applause] [Music] [Applause] is [Music] i'm calling on the holy spirit almighty river come and fill me again [Music] come and fill me [Music] one of the reasons why we don't see a church on fire to win the lost is because we've got people in church who don't trust the god who saved them trust in the lord with all of your heart god wants you to trust him because trust determines the quality of your relationship people say the world is becoming more godless that's not true they're just giving themselves to many gods in times like these we want to know who do we put our trust in when the world is shaking what is unshakable child of god i've come to tell you today there is a god that you can put your trust in he is a god who has never failed you he is the god who provides for you he's the god who holds the sun the moon and the stars in the palm of his hand he has never abandoned you he has always protected you the word of god declares that some may trust in horses and some may trust in chariots but we church shall trust in the name of our god [Music] if you would please stand for the reading of god's word if you brought your bibles turn them to the book of psalms the 78th chapter beginning at the fifth verse as this morning we continue with the sermon series in god with trust with this message the god we take for granted last week we began with these foundational principles one the quality of every relationship is determined by the depth of trust in that relationship two the way that you demonstrate your trust in the lord is determined by your willingness to follow and obey his word jesus said to his disciples why do you call me lord if you do not do the things that i say you can say i trust in god but until you behave like you trust in god you haven't demonstrated it three god leads us with his word psalms 119 thy word is a lamp unto thy feet and a light unto my path and the way that god's word leads us is in three forms one there's the word that we see that's what you do when you read it faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of god two the word that you hear that's what you receive when i or pastor or another person preaches it and then three the word that is confirmed in you by the holy spirit so you see it you hear it you feel it and you do it when you begin to see the things in god's word about the kind of god that he is and the kind of god that we serve church i recommend to you today that we put our trust in god god is a god that you can trust in because of the consistency of his character he has never failed he has never lost a battle he has never faltered he has never fallen off the throne the bible says that he is a rock and he is a refuge and he is an ever-present help in a time of trouble his word says that when the nation's rage and the word trembles and shakes he is still going to be higher than the highest he is still going to be greater than the greatest he is still and will always be king above kings and lord above lords give the lord a hand clap of praise the problem with our world today is not with a god who has never failed and is faithful from generation to generation the problem in the world today are the hearts of evil men who take god for granted and today we turn to psalm 78 and we see a chapter in israel's history in which time in time and time again in spite of god's goodness on their life they took him for granted by god's grace and through the leading of his holy spirit in this generation i pray that we do not do the same let's read psalms 78 and 5 together if you're there say amen for he established a testimony in jacob and appointed a law in israel which he commanded our fathers that they should make them known to their children that the generation to come might know them the children who would be born that they may arise and declare them to their children that they may set their hope in god and not forget the works of god but keep his commandments and may not be like their fathers a stubborn and rebellious generation a generation that did not set its heart a right and whose spirit was not faithful to god heavenly father through the power of your holy spirit and the anointing of your presence in this place i pray that today when we leave here our hearts would be set right and that we would be found faithful to a god who has never failed us in jesus name we pray and ask all of god's children said praise the lord you may be seated when you read psalms 78 it begins by saying that god was so kind to the children of israel in that he gave them his word and when he gave them the word the testimony that he gave to jacob he commanded them you fathers teach these words to your children he gave them a responsibility with the gift that he had given and what you need to know beginning in this chapter is that with great responsibility with great gifts comes great responsibility the problem in this generation is not with the faithfulness of god as i said earlier the problem in this generation is with the hearts of wicked men who take a faithful god for granted the world that we live in is filled with the kind of people that paul warned timothy about in second timothy 3 and 5 he said they have a form of godliness but they deny the power thereof these are the kinds of people that hit the campaign trail and make statements like god bless america and then when they're elected they forget god exists these are the kinds of people that want to band in god we trust and take one nation out of god off of anything that has to do with our nation they want prayer out of our schools and then they proclaim that there is no god but you must trust the science have you noticed how in god we trust has been replaced with trust the science how many of you remember when science was something that they used to discover truth you know isaac newton whenever he saw the apple fall from the tree he wanted to know why so he used science and he proved the law of okay just making sure i'm still speaking to an educated audience here science used to be used to discover truth now science is a word that tyrants use to camouflage things that they want to control you with science used to seek truth now science tells lies science tells lies like there is no longer male and female you are whatever you feel trust the science science tells lies like the greatest threat in the world right now is environmental dangers china is wanting taiwan russia has invaded ukraine the economy is going down inflation is going up but we're worried about melting glaciers trust the science science tells lies like don't eat the apples that they sell in the grocery store and don't buy the milk that the dairy farmer works so hard to put on the shelf and don't go get those eggs that they hatched out of north carolina because they're full of genetically modified organisms and they'll kill you but take this shot it's safe trust the science here's the thing about trust you are either going to bow before god and put your trust in him so that you have the courage to stand before tyrants or you are going to bow before tyrants and put your trust in the science and have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof my earnest admonition to you church my earnest admonition to you america my earnest admonition to all who are under the sound of my voice today have faith in god have faith in god put your trust in el shaddai because he is the all-sufficient one humble yourself before him and worship him in the beauty of holiness do not be afraid or dismayed for there is no god like our god he is great and greatly to be praised church we live in a world that is filled with darkness but our god has overcome the world [Applause] when you read psalm 78 you realize that god gave the children of israel a great gift and a great responsibility and rather than take care of their responsibility they took god for granted and when i read psalm 78 i encourage you to go read the whole chapter it goes on and on verse after verse of how good god was and how they continued to test him they continued to disobey him they continued to see what they could get away with when i read psalm 78 the first thing that comes to my mind is how dare you how dare you treat such a good god so poorly how dare you take god for granted just consider four short verses in psalm 78 beginning at verse 12. the psalmist describes all of the marvelous things that's his words he said marvelous things god did in their sight what marvelous things did he do in verse 12 he says he crushed the egyptians he delivered them from bondage he parted the red sea he led them with a cloud he warmed them with a fire he fed them with manna they drank water from a rock and they still took him for granted when there was no way he made a way and they took him for granted when they needed deliverance he sent moses and they took him for granted when they were attacked he was a shield and he defended them in battle he held the sun still and they took him for granted when they were hungry he rained down angel's food in the form of manna they ate it and not one sickner feeble among them and they still took him for granted when they were thirsty he made water gush out of a rock and two million drank and they still took him for granted when they needed direction he gave it and when they were lost he found them and still they took him for granted how dare you take a god like that for granted but then there's the question are we any different than they in this generation look at the marvelous things that god has done for us consider his goodness in our lives and ask yourselves have we honored him like we should have we served him like we ought have we submitted to his word have we obeyed his commandments or have we taken god for granted you see everything that god did for the children of israel in egypt he did for us through his son jesus christ when he sent him to the cross the children of israel were in bondage and he set them free we were slaves to sin and he set us free he freed us from our past it's forgiven and forgotten it's under the blood he freed us from fear for god has not given us a spirit of fear he freed us from poverty because for our sakes he became poor he freed us from sickness when by his stripes we were healed he freed us from sorrow for in his presence is the fullness of joy when you realize all of the liberty that was given to you because of what christ did the day he died in your place you begin to understand whom the son sets free is free indeed but what have we done with that freedom have we used our freedom in christ as we should or have we taken it for granted have we used our freedom in christ to overcome the world or have we let the world overwhelm us have we used the mighty name of jesus to make war in the heavenlies and cast down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of god or have we let the mandates of men cancel out the power of god in our lives i run into people in this town all the time says preacher i'm waiting to come back to church really you didn't wait to come into the grocery store [Applause] this week i watched with tears rolling down my cheeks as people in the ukraine were having church and praying and singing hymns in subway tunnels so that they wouldn't die on the street level and i think how privileged are we to sit in this padded pew in this air-conditioned sanctuary and here we sit saying well i'm just not pleased with how things are going in my life how dare we take the goodness of god in our lives for granted the mandates of men do not cancel out the power of our god you need to realize something in this woke world that we live in the god of abraham isaac and jacob he does not slumber and he does not sleep he does not need to be woke he never went to bed you can't erase him from history because he was there before time began you can't remove him from the future because he is from everlasting to everlasting you cannot deny him because the sun the moon and the stars they declare his glory you cannot ignore him because he is the judge before whom all will someday stand you cannot denounce him because he is the way he is the truth and he is the life the grass may wither and the flower may fade but the word of the lord it endures forever so what have we done with a god who has given us so much have we done as we should or have we taken him for granted have we undervalued his word and taken his blessings lightly how dare we abuse the privileges of his grace and mercy has god been good to us yes have we been good to god that's a lot harder question to answer when i read psalm 78 i find these words written in verse 18 it says they tested god say that with me they tested god they tested god in their hearts asking for the food of their fancy now when you read on what you find is that they were asking for meat instead of manna they were tired of eating perfect food and whenever they asked god for meat he sent quail and while the quail were in their mouth god killed them now don't believe that this is god's rule against poultry it has nothing to do with poultry rest assured chick-fil-a is still in the will of god [Applause] it's god's favorite bird the reason that this was an issue is because what they were doing is turning down what god provided for what they wanted it's a spiritual issue it is you submitting to god's will or you trying to manipulate god to do your will rather than eat the manna which is the bread from heaven that he sent they wanted the meaty things of this world that they could sink their teeth into and when they sunk their teeth into it it killed them nothing's changed church you can spend your life reading the manna of heaven that he has sent to us in his word and the more of this heavenly bread you read and the more of it you take into your heart soul mind and body the happier and the longer and the healthier and the better you're going to live or you can take the meaty things of this world and you can scroll through it and then you can sit there and talk to your friends and say oh did you see what they posted oh my goodness i read this on facebook 7 out of 10 of us are going to die next week i wonder who it's going to be how often do we have an option between manna and meat and most of the time we put down the manna and we pick up the meat and we spend our week worried about what we read and what they said and what they did and what they didn't do and what's suspected and oh look there's a survey do you know that because of the digital and technological stuff that we have in our lives now our attention span is shorter than a goldfish that's a scientific fact the average attention span in the united states today is eight seconds your labrador is 12. why because your mind is not stayed on thee they tested god how many people in the world today how many nations how many leaders how many organizations are testing god playing the what if game what would god do if let me tell you something about trust the way that trust is built is through the consistency of someone's character and competency the consistency of their character and their competency your competency tells me what you can do what you're capable of your character tells me why you do it when you are both capable and have character then i put my trust in you because i know what you'll do and i know why you'll do it give you a very real example of this in my childhood people would always come up to me and they would have this little fun conversation what would your daddy do if what would your daddy do if he caught you with a cigarette there was no if i knew what he would do why because there was a consistency not only in his character but in his competency ask me all the dumb questions you want i've got the answer he'll kill you why because the rules were very clear this is what i expect of the children in my home and if you broke the rules you didn't rewrite them they were just enforced it was really kind of an unemotional thing very matter of fact but it was a very easy home to live in because you didn't have to wonder what is he going to do now well let me explain something to you our god is the same yesterday today and forever his consistency has not faltered one inch the fool has said in his heart there is no god and the fool's first cousin is the person who believes that god has changed his opinion upon his commandments what would god do if we broke his commandments what would god do if we forget the sabbath what would god do if we lied or stole or murdered or committed adultery what would god do if we redefined the family if it was no longer as he created it in genesis male and female and be fruitful and multiply what would god do if we murdered 60 million innocent children in abortion mills god's character is so consistent you can flip through the word of god and find chapter and verse line after line time after time what god does in those situations romans chapter 1 verse 18 says that the wrath of god is revealed from heaven against all unrighteousness and still some people say well where is the wrath of god on the earth today look around you folks go read deuteronomy chapter 28 and start at verse 15. most of the time we celebrate verses 1 through 14 because that tells us everything we want to hear blessed in the city and blessed in the field and blessed in your basket and blessed in your bowl in the head and not the tail and you lend and you never borrow yay the problem is deuteronomy chapter 28 says if you keep the commandments those are your blessings if you disobey the commandments and then chapter verse 15 all the way through the end of the chapter tells you what happens i'll just hit some of the high points and see if you cannot see the wrath of god turned against this world deuteronomy 28 it says if you do not obey the voice of the lord your god these curses will come upon you it says cursed shall you be in the city how many of you see the lawlessness in our city murder rates are soaring law enforcement is under attack and police departments are talking about citizens engaging in risky behavior and tell you something when sitting in your home watching television is risky the world's just getting a little too dangerous it says cursed shall you be in the field this past weekend i was driving through south texas and every bit of wind was causing dust to blow in the air why because we have no rain god could make that quit with one storm cursed will you be in your basket and in your bowl those are the places that you go for your food how many of you notice there's a problem in our grocery stores verse 23 and 24 it says the heavens shall be like bronze and the earth shall be like iron and god will change your reign to powder and dust do you know how much of the united states right now is experiencing unprecedented drought verse 25 the lord will cause you to be defeated before your enemies you shall go out against them one way and flee seven deuteronomy 28 and verse 25 was fulfilled when you saw the way we left afghanistan people read things like this in the bible and they say god did all that no we did when we decided to take him for granted verse after verse line after line you see the cost of deliberate disobedience and when you get to the end of the chapter what i come to the conclusion of is it's not worth it it's not worth a season of sin to live without the blessings of god in your life it's not worth all of the heartache that you're going to go through to live without his presence and who's present whose presence is the fullness of joy it's not worth the torment to live without his peace it's not worth the danger to live without his protection it's not worth it to live without his provision he has given us a very clear directive he set before us life and death blessings and curses choose life choose life choose life [Applause] instead we play what if church we're not here to see what we can get away with we're here to declare his truth to a lost and dying world we're not here to see if we can camouflage the light we're here to shine so brightly that a world of darkness knows that there is a father in heaven he didn't redeem us so that we could act like slaves to sin he set us free so that one of us could put a thousand to flight and two of us could put ten thousand to flight so that we could lay hands on the sick and they would recover so that we would raise the banner of truth and in the mighty name of jesus turn this world upside down for jesus christ rather than asking the question what if god what would happen if we said what if we what if we humbled ourselves and prayed what if we repented of our sin what if we turned to god and drew near to him the bible says that he would hear our prayer and he would heal our land the reason that people take god for granted is because they don't want to bear the burden of freedom and believe me with every gift comes responsibility freedom is a gift it's not free it was given to you spiritual freedom and natural freedom and with both forms the spiritual freedom that jesus christ gave you and the natural freedom that our forefathers gave us comes this burden of responsibility and that burden of responsibility is personal responsibility you see the burden of freedom is this you are in charge of you you have the responsibility of taking care of you when you're free it's not my job to take care of you and it's not your job to take care of me i'm free to take care of me and you're free to take care of you it's not the government's job to take care of you it's your job to take care of you the responsibility to take care of yourself and those that god has given you to be a steward of psalms 78 verses 6 and 8 it talks about personal responsibility it says that god gave them the word and he told them what to do with it tell it to your children and to the children who are yet to be born so that they would then tell their children it was god's desire for the generational succession of the truth to be a matter of personal responsibility in which a father would tell a son and a son would tell a grandson and a grandson would tell a great-grandson so that generation after generation after generation you would know where your blessings came from consider this in our natural world today do you know why there is such a strong push to pull down historical markers and to rewrite and revise history because if you can erase the past you can control the future what did god say in psalm 78 he said that the generation to come might know and declare the works of the lord psalm 78 protects your children and your grandchildren from a dictator ever taking their freedom if you will take the personal responsibility to teach them what the word of god says don't outsource it it's your job it's your job to make sure that they know that freedom that christ gave you came with the responsibility of telling others what jesus christ has done in your life this is what revelation says they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and what the word of their testimony they made it their responsibility to tell others what jesus did whenever you look at this issue of personal responsibility do you know what it takes to fulfill it it's a four-letter word work no responsibility gets fulfilled because you wished it to it only gets done when you are willing to do the work that it takes to do it i've heard so many people in the last two years talk about how hard things are and believe me we've lived through difficult days there's no denying that but they go so far as to say oh it's never been this bad really my grandmother pastor's mother she got to houston texan texas in a wagon drawn by mules and she drew water out of a well thank you grandma oh it's never been this hard you ever talked to somebody who lived through the great depression oh it's never been this tough you ever visited with somebody that was in the midst of the throes of world war ii hard times come but when they come the only way to get through them is work your way through them don't whine your way through them put your hand to the plow move forward and don't look back how did they get through the hard times they worked through it how did this nation get built it didn't build itself they worked through it was it easy no did it cost something yes what did it take it took blood it took sweat it took tears it took perseverance it took an attitude that said no matter what we're not going to give up and now we their descendants find ourselves in a moment of decision what are we going to do are we going to work through our problems are we going to trust in god and stand before tyrants are we going to bow before tyrants and forfeit god's blessing the question is this how badly do you want to be free how badly do you want to see god's blessings on your children and your grandchildren how badly do you want their future to be filled with hope rather than despair how badly do you want to see god arise in this day and generation and pour out his power without measure if that's how bad you want it then what we've got to do is stop taking god for granted and start living by the precepts and the counsel of his word do what this book says draw near to god so he can draw near to you submit to god resist the devil and he'll flee from you put on the whole armor of god and take a stand in the evil day fight the good fight of faith and pull down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of god endure hardness as a good soldier because if god be for us who can be against us [Applause] i close with this the choice is yours joshua he lived through every chapter and every verse and every line of psalm 78. and when you turn in the book of joshua you find a moment in joshua's later years the young men of israel have come and they've told joshua we don't know how much longer we're going to stick with this jehovah thing they must have been woke and joshua makes it very plain he says choose you this day whom you will serve you want to serve the gods on the other side of the river that's your choice you want to do what seems right to you that's your choice and he said but for me and my house i get to choose for me and my house we're going to serve the lord [Applause] [Music] now those are just a few lines in one verse of the bible but if you listen to the heart that joshua said it with and you consider all that joshua had been through you'll understand why you can't take god for granted you see joshua said as for me and my house i was there in egypt i started my life in that brick pit and i was there when god sent this man moses to deliver us and i saw the impossible become possible when suddenly slaves were turned into soldiers and we marched right out of egypt after the passover i was there when we got to the red sea and we didn't know how we were going to get across it and he pushed the water back left and he pushed it back right and we walked through on dry ground and then saw pharaoh drown in what we had just come through i was there when we were thirsty and the rock gushed the water i was there when we were hungry and he fed us with the manna i was there when the enemies attacked us and he held the sun still i was there for all of it i was there on the cold nights when the fire was in the cloud and it kept us warm i was there on the hot days when he sent that cloud to be our shade i was there when we got to the jordan and he made a way where there seemed to be no way i was there marching around jericho when we shouted and those walls of impossibility fell down i was there when inch by inch yard by yard day by day year by year we took the promised land and everything that he said it was it turned out to be i was there i've seen god do way too much for me to give up on god [Music] so you choose for you and i'll choose for me as for me and my house god's been too good to me god's poured out too many blessings on me when you didn't know how to pay the bill god made a way where there seemed to be no way when the doctor diagnosed you god reached down and he touched you when your family was falling apart his hands wrapped him around you and he pulled you back together when you were losing your mind he gave you peace that surpassed all understanding when you didn't know what to do he gave you the answer of how to get through it whenever you were lost and all alone he found you and he was the friend that was closer than a brother when you needed his touch his hand was there when you needed joy he sent it when you needed peace he sent his presence child of god if he's been good to you you can't give up on him [Music] so here's how we're going to close this service today i don't want you to take god for granted he promised us that if two or three of us were in his together in his name he would be there so i just want you to take a moment and lift your hands and i want you to open your mouth and i want you to thank god for his goodness thank him for his blessings thank him for your health and for your strength thank him for your home thank him for your family thank him that he has a plan for you thank him that his word and his promises are true thank him that you've never had a need that he didn't meet it thank him that you've never faced a mountain that he couldn't move it thank him that you've never gone to battle when he wasn't with you and he wasn't your shield and he wasn't your glory and the lifter of your head father thank you thank you for your son jesus christ and what he has done in our lives thank you for your holy spirit that's in this house thank you for your power and your grace and your love divine thank you that standing here in this room we are in your presence where there is fullness of joy thank you for lifting burdens thank you for destroying yokes thank you for setting captive spree thank you for defeating the enemy thank you that when we call upon you you hear us and you show us great and mighty things that we know not father we give you thanks and we give you praise we give you glory and we give you honor and we ask that you would forgive us for the times that we've taken you for granted we've looked lightly at your blessings and we haven't given you the praise that you're worthy of [Music] we ask father that not only would you forgive us but as we humble ourselves you would heal our land heal our land we take responsibility for the gift that you've given and we will not let the gospel light go out but we will shine brighter than ever before so that our children and our grandchildren will know who jesus is and what he has done marvelous things we worship you lord we worship you lord we give you thanks and we give you praise this day in jesus name all of god's children said praise the lord give the lord a hand clap in this house [Music] have you enjoyed the word of god today thank you man to that wonderful message from god lift your hands for the blessing hagie ministries don't go away here's more teaching from the word of god welcome back to another haggy ministries sunday conversation we've been discussing what it would take to change this nation to shift our culture and to see america become one nation under god again i have this question for you because it will help you understand who you are and how you see yourself according to the word of god how would you answer me if i asked you to tell me who you are without giving me your name your occupation your title at work or any such information how you answer that question would inform me who you believe you are in the kingdom of god because the bible tells us that we are to be disciples john 8 and 31 jesus said to those who were listening if you abide in my word you are my disciples now the word of god is truth and in this chapter he continues in john 8 you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free one of the things we celebrate here in the united states is our freedom but freedom is the byproduct of knowledge and the knowledge of the truth is what makes you free in our founding we understood our truth that we were created by god and that he endowed us with inalienable rights in our foundation we understood the truth that all men were created equal and had the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness the farther we've strayed from that truth the less liberty and the less freedom we have the closer we get back to that divine standard we have the ability to realize and revive those freedoms in our nation that's why for the past few weeks we've been discussing why it's important for each of us to decide to live by and obey the word of god so what did jesus say about those who live by and obey the word of god in john 8 if my word abides in you you are my disciples book of matthew tells us in the 28th chapter and the 19th verse go therefore and make disciples of all nations the purpose of our responsibility on this earth is not to get people to join your church although church membership is wonderful it's not to get people to see things the way you see it it's to give people the opportunity to become disciples individuals who abide in the truth of god's word today i want to ask you this question are you a disciple what was a disciple defined in the bible one they were learners but really in acts chapter 19 before they even knew what to call people who followed jesus christ we read the words the way acts 19 and 9 it says this when some were hardened and did not believe but spoke evil of the way now that phrase right there is describing individuals who proclaimed jesus christ as our lord and savior individuals who did not agree with what the word was saying or what people were saying who followed jesus christ were calling them these are people of the way what was the way the way was following in the teachings of jesus christ they spoke evil of the people who were in the way and they departed from them and withdrew the disciples and then we read that they were individuals who were described as following the teachings of jesus christ because they were walking in the way here's the problem too many modern day christians don't know anything about the way because they don't follow the word of god they don't know who they are their faith in christ their participation at church their attendance in religious services is just part of their descript descriptive uh nomenclature it's part of their personal portfolio it's something that they put on their social media accounts christian but it does not become the all-consuming central theme of their life in the bible we're called the bride of christ that should be our identity my wife cannot talk about herself without talking about me why because we're one i can't talk about her i can't talk about myself without talking about her why because these two saith god shall become one when you put your faith in christ you shouldn't be able to talk about you without talking about him the term christian should be more than a title as a christian you are in christ and the definition of your christian faith should be found in your willingness to be a disciple the disciples were not just 12 fishermen that decided to follow jesus the disciple is an individual who chooses to live a life under the lordship of jesus christ what is the disciple according to matthew chapter 10 24 a disciple is a learner that's actually what the greek word disciple means that you are a learner not a follower but a learner what did the twelve call jesus they called him rabbi what is rabbi a teacher so you see this relationship of a teacher and a learner many of you are disciples of things other than jesus christ and there's not there's not anything particularly wrong with that let's let's say that you want to learn how to be a great chef so you emulate the techniques of someone that you admire in the kitchen you are a disciple of that chef you want to learn a technique for a various hobby or some trade that you have i know individuals who are disciples of certain golf swings or they're disciples of certain investment strategies all the word disciple means is that you are a learner in matthew 10 and 24 we read these words a disciple is not above us his teacher nor a servant above his master it is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher and a servant to be like his master if they are called of the master's house how much more will they call his household jesus christ is describing the relationship that exists between disciples and teachers learners and those that they are learning from first and foremost we are never above our teacher the lord jesus christ his overall goal is for us to be like him i'll give you an application of this in my life as a pastor as a preacher of god's word i have chosen to be a disciple a learner of john hagee one of the highest compliments that people can pay whenever they speak to me about a message that i've shared or something that i've done is you're just like your dad that's fabulous i think it's wonderful because that means as a learner of who he is i am becoming more like him now one thing that we have to understand as disciples of jesus christ is that we are always a work in progress i love what paul said to the church in the new testament even in his later days as he was aging he said that he was ever learning that he had not come to the full knowledge now believe me if paul who wrote most of the new testament and got a guided tour of heaven had not come to the full knowledge then you and i always have more to learn don't think that you get to the maturity of your faith overnight we are not a finished work overnight any more than an infant becomes an adult i have four children they range in age from 17 down to the age of nine they are progressing in their maturity but none of them are adults the older ones start to look more like adults talk more like adults act more like adults as a matter of fact sometimes the nine-year-old is the most adult of them all but they're still a work in progress so are you whenever you choose to be a disciple of jesus christ the important mindset is this you may not be where you want to be but today you should be further than you were yesterday you should be farther along this year than you were last year you should be closer to the goal with every breath that you breathe always moving forward a disciple is an individual who is not only learning but they are growing and they're bearing fruit when you read john chapter 15 jesus tells us that he didn't the disciples didn't choose him he chose the disciples why did he choose them so that they could bear fruit and that that fruit would remain when i began walking with the lord as a child while i was growing and learning how to bear fruit my fruit production in my youth is not anywhere near what i'm capable of now why because i have grown i have matured i am able to do more this should describe you in your walk of faith it should never be said i've been walking with the lord for 30 years and really haven't done much if you are a disciple if you're a learner then you are fulfilling the word of god making disciples other learners in the lessons that you teach them with your life a disciple is not only a learner and a disciple is not only one who bears fruit but a disciple is a carbon copy i'll go back to the illustration of my decision to follow and learn from my father my goal is to be like him and your goal as well as my goal in my christian walk should be to be more like jesus christ you know the old phrase you're just a chip off the old block they should look at you and see him they should be interchangeable this is what romans 8 and 29 says you know we read romans 8 and 28 and we love that verse all things work together for the good of those that love the lord and are called according to his purposes but let's read verse 29 because verse 29 is really where the rubber meets the road this is why romans 8 and 28 works together for the good of those that love the lord and are called according to his purposes romans 8 and 29 says for whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his son that he jesus might be the firstborn among many brethren what that verse is saying is that the reason that all things work together for good to those that love the lord and are called according to his purposes is so that you can be conformed into the image of jesus christ if you take verse 28 out of context you can think that only the good things that make you comfortable and make you feel good and are enjoyable in your life come from god and everything else comes from the devil but in verse 29 we recognize what verse 28's truth is it doesn't say all things are good it says all things work together for good why so that you can become more like jesus that you can learn to love like he loved that you can learn to serve like he served that you can learn to listen to god like he listened to god that you can become a servant of the living god the same way that he was here on the earth you see people should be able to know what you believe by the way you behave they shouldn't have to ask are you a christian they should see the content of your character and know that you're a person who walks in the way of jesus christ you will not know the power of the kingdom until you choose to be a learner of jesus christ john 1 confirms this for us it says but as many as believed and received him to them he gave the power to become sons of god compare that with mark 16 and these signs will follow them that believe in my name they'll cast out demons that's supernatural power over principalities they'll speak in new tongues that's a direct and divine connection with heaven above through the holy spirit they'll take up serpents that means that you have supernatural power in natural things on earth and if they drink any deadly thing it will by no means harm them they'll lay hands on the sick and they shall recover these were very visible signs that you were a disciple of jesus christ now how do you become a disciple as we've been talking for the last several weeks without a divine standard discipleship is impossible how will you know what you're following unless you are following the resource of truth john chapter 8 you are my disciples if my word abides in you whenever we divine whenever we follow the divine standard of god's word we are living the life of a learner of jesus christ you have to have a consistent and immovable object if your life is going to go in a straight path i remember one time when i was plowing a field there was a cow in the pasture next to the field i was plowing and just as i started the process dad told me he said find something that is immovable and always drive towards that now he was talking about something like a tree or a tower or something that had a firm foundation me i chose the cow and the reason i chose the cow is because whenever i started plowing the cow was laying down so you know 1500 pound cow laying in the middle of the pasture it looked immovable now what i didn't know is that as i would make different turns in the field at some point or another the cow got up and moved well when i got done that day instead of having straight lines plowed in the field by looking at an immovable object i had zigzags and circles and z's and it looked like every letter of the alphabet except the line that we needed why my point of reference was moving and whenever you don't use the word of god as the anchor whenever this is not the point of reference for your life you're always going to be shifting your perspectives you're always going to be open to new ideas you're always going to be willing to bend your truth to conform to the world instead of renewing your mind and transforming the world why is it that people who claim to be christians are willing to discuss homosexuality as a acceptable behavior why is it who people who claim to be christians are willing to entertain some of the cultural and immoral ideas of the day it's because instead of being a disciple and following the standard of god's word they're willing to bend and shift because their standard is moving thy word is truth that's what the bible says you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free that's what john chapter 8 says and jesus said if my word abides in you you are my disciples here's what we understand about jesus christ not only is he the word made flesh but he's the same yesterday today and forever so here's how we put all of this into order how do we change the nation how do we change our state how do we change our city how do we change our church we choose to be disciples let every area of our life be subject to the lordship of jesus christ because once we choose to live that way and we apply his word then individually we will see god's plan unfold in our lives crucifying our will to his plan and his purpose remember just a few days ago i shared with you love the lord your god with all of your heart your soul your mind and your strength you sacrifice your will your heart your mind your soul your strength for his purpose this is what paul communicated the church in galatians when he said i am crucified with christ i no longer live i've been sacrificed it's christ who lives in me and the life which i now live in the flesh i live by faith in the son of god who loved me and gave himself for me when you choose to live your life underneath the lordship of jesus christ and you choose to be his disciple you are going to see the power of god not only change who you are but it's going to have an impact on your family and your family is going to have an impact on your church and your church is going to have an impact on your community your community is going to have an impact on your state your state is going to have an impact on your nation and one heart at a time one home at a time one church at a time we can change this nation for the glory of god but it begins with the standard that is found in his word i want to pray for you today that you would hear the word of god and have the courage to do it and not only that you would have the courage to do it but that you would see the hand of god do great things for you each and every day until god and his favor are saturating this nation and we are one nation under god again heavenly father thank you for your word it does not return void but it accomplishes the purpose for which you sent it now i ask that as we have heard what your word has promised us that if in all of our ways we acknowledge you you would direct our path that each and everyone who hears this message today has the courage not only to hear it but to do it to let the lordship of jesus christ be the divine standard to which they submit their heart soul mind and body as they do let your purpose your plan your power explode in their life let your favor be upon them let the goodness and mercy of god follow after them the hand of god always be upon them as they put their trust in you be a shield round about them as your word has promised you would be in jesus name we pray and receive this amen and amen i want to thank you for joining us
