Converting a Van With No Experience - Start to Finish Timelapse

last year i bought a van and the goal was to build a tiny home inside having no experience so let me take you back in time and show you how i took it from this to this [Music] all right the goal for today is to remove everything so that i can start with a clean slate and that includes removing this wood panels this wall and the floor i have no idea how to remove these things but i guess i'll figure it out [Music] baby [Music] still recording [Music] and i thought you were ready to give up [Music] it's working [Music] baby [Music] done this is probably going to be the most difficult one because it's super heavy it's all fixed with these super annoying rivets and also lots of silicone so let's see how this goes [Music] this is looking so much better already you can see how open the space is going to be without this wall can't wait to remove it [Music] when you press me is [Music] after 10 days of work all i managed to do was to empty the van and i'm just realizing how long this whole thing is going to take now i really want to start building things but before we do that we need to create a structure onto which we fix everything by the way have i mentioned i've never built anything in my life [Music] oh [Music] [Applause] [Music] all the wood is finally cut so it's time to fix everything in place [Music] that was actually three days of work this video is a lie alright i removed this wall right here because i wanted to be able to go from the back to the front side without having to leave the car but to do that right now this this is what i have to do i have to put my left foot here and then i have to squeeze myself between these two seats in order to drive the van which is not very convenient so i have a solution for that [Music] foreign [Music] so so [Music] so [Music] look at this it's so cool you can sit like this and work for example or you can put your feet here and just chill out and in case you're wondering why i didn't put a swivel seat on this side it's because the handbrake is on the way so this is the final result there's plenty of room to go from one side to the other and for the perfectionists out there i know the seat covers are different i'm going to fix that soon okay don't worry today is a beautiful day outside and this means i'm going to cut a hole in the van [Music] [Music] so [Music] we're having a party [Music] on the table [Music] i did it this is so cool so [Music] and there you go the fan is installed and i can finally check this one off the to-do list i cannot wait to get power inside the van and feel that fresh air coming in but in the meantime let's go back inside and build some stuff you see all this space here it's a bit of a waste right so i'm going to build a shelf [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and get your hands [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right it's fixed hopefully it doesn't fall oh it's fixed it's not your hat but moving your hurry sweetie [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] just [Music] is [Music] it took me a while but it's finally done and since it's my first wood build i honestly couldn't be happier with the results and now that this part is over it's finally time to insulate the van so here's the plan the fan is made out of metal hence the black rubber to help with sound deadening then i'm using xps or rockwool as the main insulation but mainly xps then comes the vapor barrier and lastly the wood there's a lot to do so let's get back to work is [Music] oh [Music] the insulation and all the electrical cables are almost done which means i'm going to insulate the floor [Music] i'm going to use the old floor as a template for the new floor [Music] come on [Music] oh [Music] the subfloor is done meaning that i can start working on the actual floor but first let's cover these things [Music] so [Music] so [Music] look at this it's starting to look like an actual home and the best part is that it's waterproof you spill some water not a problem you know what's bothering me is that it's taking way too long to build so let's just change the song and speed this up [Music] [Applause] [Music] me [Music] [Applause] [Music] and just like this the rear doors are done which means it's finally time to build the walls [Music] [Music] [Music] look at this we have a toilet oh my god this is so cool it's so tiny [Music] [Music] from [Music] [Applause] [Music] hey [Music] the kitchen structure is complete and now i'm going to build the drawers and i'm not gonna lie i'm a bit nervous because i have never done this before [Music] [Music] holy [Music] look at this we have got a fridge super accessible but if we don't need it we just put it there and it stays organized so i'm just cooking here now oh i need broccoli let me just grab it it's over here all right so convenient [Music] ah hmm [Music] [Music] um [Music] [Music] look at this oh my god i don't even know i made this but it's so perfect [Music] i still don't know how i made these but it really exceeded all my expectations now with this out of the way the only thing missing is a countertop but there's a problem so basically i miscalculated the dimensions of the counter and it's actually 10 centimeters longer than the longest countertop they sell at the store so i have to build my own i already have a plan don't worry [Music] look at this this is a before and after it's amazing [Music] all the wood is clean and ready to be glued so let's do it [Music] [Applause] [Music] the first half is done and oh my god this was so stressful [Music] all right moment of truth oh my god it's massive so i think this is done it turned out so much better than i was expecting i think the best part is that you can tell this was built with pallets because it's so perfect and if you're wondering how i managed to make it this mood i actually took it to a proper wood workshop and they put it through a big planner so that's why i managed to make it this smooth and it's oh it's so satisfying yeah now i just need to cut it to size i'm a bit nervous uh and then we're good to go [Music] so [Music] and that's it the kitchen is done and honestly it's so much better than i was expecting i don't want to brag but i'm a little proud of myself for building this one alone it feels like all the pieces are finally falling into place well maybe not all the pieces since i started i've been wanting to paint the van but after sitting on it for a while it felt like i was biting off more than i could chew so instead i decided to hire some help and this was the result i went with this pale blue collar which i think looks amazing and i also got this custom ladder and the spare tire mount which tie everything together and since i hired someone i also got some help on the inside installing all the electrical components as well as all the plumbing which means i now have running water inside the van and yes that includes hot water but with all of this four months went by and the van is not ready yet so i say it's time to get back on track and in this build for once and all one two three four all right so the first thing i want to finish is the toilet because it's long overdue and i just want to be able to shower inside the van let's get to work [Music] so so [Music] one more done well the walls might be done and it's looking much better already but no shower is complete without a proper door [Music] we have a door the fiberglass is glued to the door now i just need to use the router to get the fiberglass flush with the door it's going to look good [Applause] [Music] let's see if it works [Music] we have light in the bathroom [Applause] okay it's done i just hope there are no leaks because this was probably the messiest thing i have done so far in the van okay on to the next job the batteries obviously need a cover that not only looks good but also allows for airflow and i think i know what i'm gonna do [Music] me [Music] we're getting there but there's still a few things missing like a bed for example and for that i want to build something which can be tucked away to maximize the living space it's definitely not the easiest solution so let's see what i can come up with [Music] look at all this storage oh [Music] one step ahead of me [Music] okay the bed is ready i know it looks like a sandwich but it was the best i could come up with let's put it in place now i'm only [Music] i can tell you how good it feels every time i have an idea and then i make it happen and even though this one didn't turn out exactly like i wanted i'm sure it will do for now i have a feeling someone really likes it okay we have one last task before we celebrate and i think you can guess what it is [Music] is [Music] it looks so good wow this is my first time ever seeing the fan with some sort of ceiling wow [Music] we are almost done now i just need to put all the wooden boards on the ceiling and the whole build is going to be complete i cannot wait
