[Music] hello and welcome to another episode of practical IT in this episode we are going to revisit xrdp on a couple of newer Linux distributions xrdp if you're not aware is an implementation of the RDP protocol that works with Linux so let's get started we are going to look at a daily preview edition of focal fossa which is going to be a bun to 20.0 for so let's go ahead and bring that up first and we will log into it okay we'll launch a terminal and make the text a little bit larger okay so we're going to use the exact same commands we used in the video that I made back in December of 2018 so sudo apt install xrdp and X org xrdp - Y and we'll go ahead and get this installed generating an RSA key and that has completed so we can go ahead and close the terminal and we will log out of this machine so to test that and I'd already previously run through this just to make sure it was going to work I know what the IP address is so we are going to launch that enter our username and password and we should have a desktop here shortly and authentication is required to create a color manage device and we've got our desktop and so we've got our activities menu and you can do all the things you would normally do with the virtual machine or a physical machine for that matter as if you were logged in directly on it so we will go ahead and close out of that logout and you can see that we've still got the VM running here in the background so the other VM that I decided to build today for this test was Linux Mint 19.3 and it'll be the same procedure since Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu it should work the same way so again we'll open a terminal and it's the same command ah huh okay so this presents us with an issue unable to correct problems you have held broken packages so let's add those as well and see what happens you one issue that could cause this scenario is if a distribution is using Weiland instead of X org for the display manager we will try this out we are on 74 at 175 we can log out of mint only just want to log out and we'll bring up the Microsoft remote desktop client 172 1674 175 and connect and we have the linux mint desktop in full screen and we can do everything again that we would do otherwise there are some distributions that are going to have issues I do have a dedicated pop OS machine physical machine that I attempted this same procedure on and this is using pop OS 1910 and so far I have been unable to connect the software installed fine but there's probably just a configuration issue and if I should find a solution to that I will make an update to this video and let you know and that brings us to the end of another practical IT video if you liked the video please give a thumbs up subscribe and consider leaving comments down below once again I thank you all for watching have a great day
