months have not been here so really really excited to see you guys okay i'll be leading a prayer this morning uh especially in these times where every day we face negative news the more we need our father let's go to our father in prayer heavenly father you are our beloved father and our best friend in the entire world you know us even before we were born and you love us so much that you have sacrificed your son jesus to die on the cross to redeem our sin when we are so hopeless you are there to guide us and confess us and send friends into our life to help us beginning 2 19 december the word is infected by corvette virus and the outbreak is out of control since then our life has changed people no longer live in peace and fear has hit the world and many life have lost first and foremost in the midst of this trouble here father i want to pray that the life of our family our friends our church mate in the world will be in safe hands through your love and mercy disciple and non-disciple will believe in your power and love father secondly i want to pray for your holy spirit to revive our church to renew our personal spiritual life to renew our small group our zone our sector and the whole church congregation to practice the teaching in the bible and give us the wisdom and love to resolve conflict and hurt i pray for the church to be collectively united so that we can understand your plan for us and to heal and save more hurt so thirdly father i want to pray for those countries that are infected by wars and natural disaster i pray that their cry will reach your ears and you will show them your love and mercy in your plan accordingly people will see you are the one and only almighty god especially for people who have been afghanistan may your love be present there lastly i want to pray for the disciple and their family member they are sick please help them to recuperate sooners and watch over their life and to comfort them over these difficult times hen father thank you for listening to our request and cry and may you answer our prayer in your way and your time amen good morning brothers and sisters uh mike here is so privileged to share the communion today so today uh my community sharing will be based on the scripture in psalms 115. sorry verse in verse 118 verse five this is in new living translation it says in my distress i prayed to the lord and the lord answered me and set me free you know before i became a disciples the biggest obstacle or challenge for me is to trust people because i went through multiple betrayals by my best friend throughout my childhood years primary school secondary school even in my college time i was so hurt until i told myself that enough is enough from now onwards i would never trust anyone anymore so i was still i was baptized i give my campus brothers sisters a lot of hard time when any brother try to correct any of my sinful behavior i will either ignore i will look up and down i will say you will finish or not finish i goa so this is me you know even i will challenge the brother back so this went on for six months so imagine how the hurts to the brothers but one day during one of my bible study i came across this verse in first john 4 20-21 whoever claims to love god yet his brother or sister is a liar for whoever does not love their brothers and sisters whom they have seen cannot love god whom they have not seen and he has given us this command anyone who loves god must also love their brothers and sisters so this scripture challenged me i was like a robot without feeling i told myself is like if i cannot live i cannot feel others people love how can i love other people too i know i have numbed my feelings all these years i decided from now onwards i want to pray every night so that god can give me the feeling of love months after months have passed i pray every night sometimes shedding tears cry but there is no answer from god you know six months has passed i really felt giving up but since i decided this journey i want to continue to pray and wrestle with god you know during one night when i when i pray i heard the voice of god is like telling me mike do you know why you still cannot feel other people care constant and love because you never let go of your past packages the reason and the bitterness you are still holding on the hurts i told god god this is very hard for me god told me it is tough for jesus to go through the cross but he did because he loved you being a christian is about being like christ do you want to be like rice mike i say yes from that moment onwards i slowly let go of my past my bitterness surrendered to god and forgive and amazingly god started to give me the feeling of love bit by bit in the end i totally forgive and through that god heals me and set me free a freedom that priceless in the world that no one can give except god church despite my sin of being unable to love people god continue to forgive of my sin and have patience with me and bless me today as we partake the communion let's remember how christ died on the cross for us to satisfy and love us let us pray dear father god in heaven we are so blessed to have you in our life that we are able to study the bible to know you to know how you have forgave us how you love us by sending christ to die on the cross for us if not for you we will not be who we are today even we are lost we do not know what are we doing until today we are so thankful for your cross for jesus who love us so much by dying for his father let's continue to remember and continue to grow you know as we take the bread and symbolize jesus body and the vine that symbolize jesus blood let us continue to to grow in our love for you and to grow to love one another all this we pray in his name amen church as as we take the communion there will be a instrumental music being played thank you [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] okay so before we have chinkai to finish the sermon later let us all stand for one more song which is still [Music] [Music] [Music] hide me now under [Music] me [Music] within your mighty hand when the oceans rise [Music] and i will be [Music] my soul [Music] know his power [Music] [Music] is [Music] fly [Music] one more time when the oceans rise [Music] the father you are king over the [Music] you [Music] amen let's all be seated okay not there yet by ourselves just start talking good morning brothers and sisters it has been a few months right since i came to church in this building right and it's been two years since i last preached here on stage and many many things have happened right the biggest thing of course is covet and and even standing up here again after so long i've learned one thing very quickly and the one thing is this in the last two years so much has changed that font size 12 is no longer enough okay i think i need font size 14 or 16 from now on right i think it's too much time spent in front computer screens too much zoom times too many webinars you know and it's really good that we can see each other face to face now it is awesome that we can worship god together for he is truly worthy of all our praises and it is so good to see all of you here this morning right even though it's just half of our faces right and to all of you brothers and sisters who are gathered with us virtually at home it is great that we can share this morning together now let us go to our father in prayer heavenly father god we just want to thank you so much that god we can be gathered together as a body god whether we're here fiscally together in a building or whether we're together in heart in different locations father we just want to thank you so much for bringing us together and god we want to come together because god we want to worship you we want to praise you and god want to praise you because god you are almighty god your love which we do not deserve and yet god somehow you bless us so abundantly god we pray to god as we as we listen to your word today god help me to preach with your words and with your will not with my words or my agenda and father god as we listen to your word help us to to listen to you with open hearts so that god we can change so that god we can glorify you father thank you so much for this time we pray that you bless this time that we have here in the name of jesus christ we pray amen amen now over the last few weeks we've thought about corporate repentance right the need for all of us to repent as individuals in smaller group units and collectively as a congregation we have strayed away as a church and we want as a church to draw close to god again that's why we need corporate repentance we have talked about personal revival household revival group revival congregational revival and on friday through real archery and today we're talking about community revival and after that we talk about solemn assemblies and we learned about covenant renewal now many of us i understand have different thoughts and feelings about this someone some of us will feel great about this well-structured plan right to repent in different areas in a step by step way some of us however feel like we are going too fast and maybe we should just dwell a little longer on each of these points before we move on to the next one there's some of us who feel like no no no this is way too slow our chat should already move on let's move on already now the different thoughts that we have are all valid no there's some truth to all our logic because there will never be a one-size-fits-all solution that works for all of us but regardless of our different opinions and perspectives i'm very glad that we are all united on the one most important thing i know that all of us we love god we desire to please him and we i know that all of us we want to bring our church higher we are united in that and brothers and sisters that is sufficient so before i preach about community revival i think we need to get some of our definition definitions straight right community the definition is a group of people who reside in a specific locality or sharing common characteristics or interests and perceive as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which the community exists so for example a business community a college community an otaku community or christian community so for some time now i've i've heard many people call our church a community at first i didn't even notice it right we are yeah we are a group of people with common characteristics and interests and we are distinct from others in some ways right in just our own lingo we have certain behaviors so yeah but yeah i guess we are a community but after a while i feel a little annoying in my heart as i remember what the bible actually calls us and it is not a community according to the bible we are a body in first corinthians chapter 12 verse 27 it says now you are the body of christ and each of you is a part of it colossians 1 18 and he is the head of the body referring to jesus and we are the church we are his body all of us are different parts of one body and we are important to each other that's what the bible says the bible also calls us a family in first john chapter 3 verse 1 so how great how great the love the father has lavished on us that we should be called children of god matthew 12 50 for whoever does the will of my father who is in heaven is my brother and sister and mother besides being a body we are a family christ is our brother and god is a father that's why we call each other brothers and sisters we are also citizens of an eternal kingdom and god is our king ephesians chapter 2 consequently you are no longer foreigners and strangers but fellow citizens with god's people and also members of his household kingdom and family you see brothers and sisters we are not merely a community that got together because of some common interest like an otaku community that gets together because of the common interest in enemy or manga we didn't get together because of common interest in jesus neither are we merely following some community guidelines in order not to be kicked out by some moderators or some exco instead we are bonded by the blood and sacrifice of jesus we obey god's word the bible and we are supposed to be much much much closer than community we are christ's body and family and the kingdom of god so a side point here not the main point right let's stop calling ourselves a community and behaving like people will merely common interests let's get back to calling ourselves god's kingdom christ's body god's family and grow to love our church in a genuine way so you might be thinking why are we getting into all these definitions it is so that we don't dilute our family our body which i think we have done for some time actually for sometimes not just a few months even a few years i remember how how some years ago right i used to feel like our church is different our church truly loves we truly care what we feel for each other is genuine i remember how years ago especially when i was a younger christian i just wanted to keep my faith simple i always think about john 3 16 how jesus loved us and died for us and always think of first john 3 16 how in maintaining christ's love we have to love each other to the extent that we're willing to die for each other i remember each time i go for bible talks or d groups or even attending church i look at the people around me i look at the brothers i look at the sisters and i ask myself do i love that brother i start thinking yes i love him do i love him to extend i'm willing to sacrifice for him yes amen good and look at another person do i love that brother do i love that sister how about this guy here how about that guy there do i love them i ask myself am i willing to sacrifice for them am i willing to care for them and my fellowship i approach fellowship that way do i love do i love do i love how can i learn to love this person more if i encounter someone who i don't really love with whom i don't have much relationship or whom i've had probably some disputes with or desire let me reconsult with this person for someone who i don't know well let me build a relationship for someone who already know well let me bring it even deeper my goal i know i'm far from it i know that some brothers and sisters whom i'm willing to die for but for the majority no not anywhere close i know i'll never get there but i want to move there one step at a time to live like jesus because we are a family we are a body we are the kingdom of god we are not just a community and besides you know and the other reason for getting to these definitions is so that when we talk about community revival we don't just think about helping ourselves we are family the community is out there as christ's body we are called to imitate christ's love for people and serve as he did we are called to serve the community around us the pongo area the people of singapore and even people beyond but to be an impact to the community we need to first change our hearts we've got two points today point number one understand the heart of christ and point number two understand our own hearts understand the heart of christ less than the luke chapter 19 the bible says here as he approached jerusalem and saw the city he wept over it and said if you even you had only known on this day what would bring you peace but now it is hidden from your eyes the days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and ham you on every side they will dash you to the ground you and the children within your walls do not leave one stone and another because you did not recognize the time of god's coming to you this was one week before jesus crucifixion as jesus was approaching jerusalem he saw the city from a distance and the bible says he wept over it he saw he foresaw the future siege and destruction that was going to come upon them four decades later in 1870 and according to jewish the jewish historian josephus 1.1 million people died in that event 1.1 million people jesus knew that this was going to happen and he cried in anguish because he felt for the people now let us ponder on this just a little bit more jesus was one week away from his death one week away from dying jerusalem was 40 years away from destruction and who did jesus cry for he cried for the city he cried for jerusalem and i was thinking wow what kind of heart does jesus have you gonna die in one week's time you're whipping over these people who's going to die 40 years later and ask myself when was the last time i cried it was actually just a couple of weeks ago i cried for myself i cried for my closest friends i cried for our church and i guess it has been a heartbreaking time for many of us right many of us have felt the pain when we saw well churches and we prayed to christ in hope we prayed to god to help us we prayed we fasted we cried knowing that god will listen to us we cry for the people around us that we love when was last night i cried for people that i don't really know that was years ago you know quite a long time like a few years it's been some time since i cried for the poor the less fortunate or the lost very interestingly i cried in movies quite recently right i watch movies and quite often move to tears but why doesn't the loss move me to tears why doesn't the poor the less fortunate move me to tears why don't the oppressed the abuse move me to tears what is wrong with my heart somehow we allow our hearts to get hardened we hear bad news all the time about different natural disasters you know all over the world and after a while we get used to all the bad news right we read about the thousands and thousands so it died because of kovit and after a while we get numbed by the numbers you know there's a quote by this guy here joseph stalin right he was a cruel dictator of the former soviet union and there is a quote that is commonly attributed to him right that says a single death is a tragedy a million deaths is a statistic why because we get numb by the numbers when one person suffers when one person dies we feel so much for them but when more and more and more and more of this happen our hearts get numbed it becomes just another statistics that's gathered jesus foresaw a million deaths in jerusalem but it wasn't a statistic to him he was not numbed by the numbers instead his heart were not for them you know sometimes our hearts turn inward when we feel pain when we get hurt by people now this is of course a very natural reaction now sometimes our hearts are so deep and we need time to heal we certainly cannot ignore or neglect that too you know bible says that jesus took regular time off by himself away from others so that he could pray alone just him and god we also know that you know at the garden of gethsemane he prayed with so much anguish that his sweat was like like blood he did that the night before he died you know he he of course felt anguished for himself but that did not stop him from caring for others you know the common misconception that many of us have is that we cannot care for others when we ourselves are feeling hurt but the fact is this self-care and caring for others they are not mutually exclusive you know the fact is you know we we can do both at the same time it's not one or the other why can't we care for ourselves why can't we pray why can't we seek healing where can we get help from people and at the same time go out and serve and care and give it's not one or the other in fact very often caring for others helps us to heal even faster you know our pain need not be an obstacle instead our pain can be a motivation should decide that we do not want people to hurt like us anymore we don't want people to be disappointed like us anymore we don't want people to go through the difficulties we go through so let us make it better let us work harder let us give let us sacrifice let our pain be our motivation because that's how jesus behaved jesus knew that he was going to die and he still felt for others now let's carry on reading the same passage right and now from verse 45 onwards the part in yellow it says here when jesus entered the temple courts he began to drive out those who were selling it is written he said to them my house will be a house of prayer but you have made it a den of robbers and then in a parallel passage in matthew chapter 21 we just focus on the past in yellow it says jesus overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves you know someone said well that's a very hawking thing to do shinto thing right you know now some of us may read this passage and feel that jesus was overreacting or even hush right he overturned the tables he drove the merchants out but come on the merchants they were not doing something evil they're not peddling drugs they were not selling slaves in fact they were providing a service no you see israel was under roman rule at that time right and the money that was commonly used in the roman empire was the roman coin however jewish law in ezekiel in exodus chapter 30 required that every man who goes to worship should pay half a shekel and that was a jewish coin so you got roman coin by the temple you need to give the money in jewish coin so this money changes saw an opportunity right they make it more convenient for the worshipers when they visited the temple so that they could change their roman coin into jewish coin on the spot there the money changers provided a service also according to jewish law leviticus chapter 14 two doves of pigeons were required to be offered in sacrifice the merchants were simply providing animals that the worshippers needed to sacrifice at the temple isn't that far more convenient than bringing the birds or the other animals the cows the ships all the way from their home to the temple and we know the people make pilgrimages from other towns from other cities imagine bringing your animals all the way along that that distance see it's true the merchants make a good profit sometimes an exorbitant profit but they were providing a convenient service so why was jesus so hardline here in fact this was the second time that jesus drove the merchants of the temple the first time was three years before in john chapter 2. now we often think that jesus was upset because these merchants were profiteering from religion they had made the temple a den of robbers and yes that's true that was one reason now what's the other reason the other reason was also what he said the temple of god has to be a house or prayer that is a line that must not be crossed now what is the function of the church the church must first and foremost be a house of prayer now we enjoy each other's company we enjoy building great relationships with one another but we have to remember that the church is not a community community club we will help each other spiritually and emotionally but the church must not become a counseling center the main reason why we go to church is to connect with god is to build a relationship with him but many of us talk more about getting our marriages fixed about learning parenting skills about getting our needs met this is a terribly wrong mindset but many often say such things as though there's nothing wrong about it jesus was resolute about keeping the temple pure do we have the heart of jesus are we resolute about keeping our church pure we need to be a church that's devoted to god but we have become more devoted to ourselves we need to build a church on the biblical foundation based on god's word but we build it under human knowledge we need to love one another but we have allowed our current crisis to divide us we need to be more serious about sins but we give excuses we attribute our sins to our schema to the way we are brought up or we blame our sins sins on other people we need to love one another but we have allowed our current crisis to divide us let us repent and become again the church that jesus wants us to be the church that jesus sacrificed his life for the church that jesus died for you know we also need to become a church that cares for others carry on in the same passage from verse 14 onwards right at the bottom of the slides it says here the blind and the lame came to him at the temple and he healed them sorry for my pauses font size 12. right we learned from the bible that jesus was going to die his mission was a sick and save the lost and time was running out right seven days one week before he's gonna die shouldn't he be more focused on preaching what what was he doing healing these people maybe you can put aside the healing for a while right in that one week just preach and preach and preach fulfill his mission second save the lost why heal the people why be distracted you know it was because jesus heart is full of love and he was motivated by his love his mission to seek and save the lost was a function of his love just as healing the sick was a function of his love he doesn't do one and ignore the other because both are actions that spring from love now for those of you who are parents do you only meet your children's spiritual needs but not their physical needs or vice versa no right as a loving parent right you want to see your you will not want to see your children deprived of food clothes education or god right love compels you to meet all of their needs so why is it that some of us right we don't have the same understanding when it comes to loving others some of us we believe more strongly in reaching out to the lost but not in helping the poor and some of us are the other way around right we care for the poor but we don't reach out to the lost don't we realize that there's something wrong with that right we cannot say that we love the laws if we do not love the poor and in the other way around we cannot say we love the poor if we do not care about the loss either genuine love will compel us to feel for people's spiritual and fiscal needs and it will move us to give in both of these areas do we feel for the loss and for the poor our hearts far away from christ now brothers and sisters we need to understand the heart of christ and imitate his heart point number two we need to understand our own hearts in luke chapter 20 verse 45 it says here in the bible while all the people were listening jesus said to his disciples beware of the teachers of the law they like to walk around in flowing ropes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogue and the places honor at banquets they devour widow's houses and for sure make lengthy prayers this man will be punished most severely as jesus looked up he saw the rich putting the gifts into the temple treasury he also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins truly i tell you he said this poor widow has put in more than all the others all these people give the gifts out of their wealth but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on so while jesus was preaching to the people three examples appeared one was the attention seeking teachers of the law the second the rich people who put their gifts into the temple treasury and the third was this poor widow who put in two very small copper coins the first two actually vary alike right the teachers of the law they decide to be respected to be recognized and to be praised by people around them they were supposed to serve and exalt god to leave god up but they put themselves on the pedestal instead they were glorifying themselves it was vanity and the rich man they were show offs too right the donation box at the temple consisted of a metal funnel at the top that goes down right into a wooden box below like what you see in the picture there right that makes it much easier for people to toss the money in right so you just throw the money and it just gets funneled in right doesn't drop out onto the ground but because of this it also makes the dropping of coins into the box very audible you can hear it so imagine how a rich show off would donate his money to gain admiration right he would take a whole bunch of coins and drop down loudly onto the final cling clang cling clang cling clan cling clang right into the box now people notice it and think wow that guy is so generous you see it was vanity see but when the poor widow gave her two very small copper coins you will make two little belly audible clink people wouldn't notice a donation but jesus did jesus saw all of their hearts he saw the vanity of the teachers of the law and the rich man and he saw the sacrificial heart of the widow too and jesus sees all of our hearts the question is do we see our hearts do we constantly check our hearts to make sure that our motivations are pure i want to make some confessions to all of you right that i am vein no okay not in that kind of vein right where i i spend my time stirring the mirror lamenting my wrinkles or my receding hairline right why start at the mirror when i can stare at my beautiful wife right scorpone no i don't have that kind of vanity right i have the same kind of vanity as the teachers of the law and the rich man at the temple my motives are not always pure you know i've shared a few times about the things i've done for the poor now let me share with you how corrupted my heart is even as i serve them and how much i've got to fight against those thoughts so frequently you know when poi he asked me to preach today about community revival so he doesn't know so now he knows so when he asked me to preach about community revival right on this topic right the first thing that flashed through my mind very quickly um yes poi he recognizes the work i've done for the community that's why he asked me to preach on this topic you know i i straight ask what what why am i thinking like that what is wrong with me why do vein talks like that cross my mind instantly i pray to god i say god god please i'm wrong forgive me forgive my impure thoughts then a couple of weeks later you know i was fellowshipping i was telling a brother that i'm preaching on this topic community revival and he said oh yeah you must because you know of the work you've done with you so hope straight away another vain thought flash through my mind i thought why am i stereotype reviews for hope why doesn't people remember the university scholarship program in cambodia or food angels in philippines or water tank in donations or houses in china or many other things i did why only stereotype me with one thing why don't people remember the other things again i caught my prideful thought i wonder what's wrong with me i'm so ashamed of myself god i am such a wretched man and i was bringing my heart god i know i set out to do things to glorify you i know i set out to do things out of a genuine love for people but why is it that as i start doing things as things start working out all these impure thoughts all these vein talks keep flooding my mind we have to keep checking our motives now even if we're doing the right things our thoughts can stray away we can become self-glorifying it just comes like that different times it just keeps floating in you know i struggle with vanity whether it's serving the poor teaching the bible helping the weak mentoring others you know i hope the people recognize my service to the lord i hope people admire my abilities i hope people appreciate my help you see my mind is a constant battlefield vein thoughts keep creeping through my mind and i've always got to arrest them and try to push them out every time before i leave the bible talk or preach a sermon or even just now i've always got to spend time praying and praying and praying please god let me do this for you let me do this to glorify you let me not do this for myself because if i don't do that vein thoughts will overwhelm my mind i need to understand where my heart is and keep fighting to keep it pure god doesn't just want to see us serve him he wants us to do it with a pure heart why do we do the things that we do when we help the poor do we take lots of pictures of ourselves serving others and then putting them all over social media do we do it to look good or some kind of you know personal branding or do we even do it to help our church branding to make our church look good even that is an impure motive a pure heart is compelled by a love for god and for people not by the benefits that we can gain when we evangelize when we bring a friend to church or study the bible with people do you hope that others notice our devotion do we hope to get some kind of approval or praise from men whether it is our insecurity that makes us seek validation or a pride that makes us sick praises we need to put all of this aside and find our worth in christ we need to understand our hearts and keep our motives pure brothers and sisters god has called us to be a positive impact to our community but a few good deeds to take the boxes can never create lasting impact let us understand the heart of christ and imitate his love let us understand our own hearts so that we can keep our motives pure when we change our hearts and become a church that truly reflect god's glory we can as a family as a body as a kingdom of god through god's almighty power bring about community revival thank you i love you amen [Applause] wow thank you jinkai for speaking god's message to us this morning thank you for sharing about community revival this morning to us to love like jesus to serve like he did and it convicts me to see that you know if we truly want revival for our groups for our church we need to first understand the heart of christ and then our own hearts thank you jinkai for calling us higher in the areas of how we have to love the loss the oppressed out as a disciple so i want to specifically thank uh alvin alvin eglun who immediately got a arranged organized a whole team of the the funeral team namely johnson joyce [Music] [Music] of unity like the brotherhood and we know that we can count on one another no matter where you stay you know some can travel from the east to the west or to the from the west to the east and they will just show up in their very best way to [Music] share in that grief that collective sense of loss collective sense of uh hey we know this brother or sister has gone to a better place you know after everything is done we continue to reach out to the eureka family and because of that they are impacted and they actually got studying the bible um the whole idea of the ministry of presence right just being present as a helper you know it doesn't have to be a sign role you know i've seen brother sisters appear at wakes and they just help up i feel i felt like that it's a small little thing that is which anyone can volunteer for thank you funeral service team for your contributions to the church um you know this video it just speaks uh just so much about what they do behind the scenes you know and i just really appreciate them so much right now before we have the last song we will have some announcements so [Music] yeah for the announcements we will be having a okay so this is the covid plan first so kovit chur so the church kovit plan uh is something that the church team has came up with uh in the event of a time where we have a attendee that is that tested positive while attending the church so this is the plan that we have the person who is tested positive uh will need to inform the the church security number at this number that you can see and the church will contact the people that have actually been seated around the positive case they will then be strongly encouraged to self-isolate and do self-testing when contacted by the church the church will also then inform the people in the same zone for them to monitor their health we will therefore now need your mobile numbers in the registration so that we can do contact tracing for this purpose so can we add the next announcement please so church we have gone through the many different revivals you know the past few months and on the 1st of october we will be having a webinar on the teaching of solemn assembly so multi more details will be given to us through our leaders so please look out for that thank you okay so before we all get dismissed let us all stand for one last song which is god of wonders [Music] creation of
