Colin Firth's Adorable Reaction When He Is Told That He Looks Great

oh last night saw a whole host of famous people turn out for the premere of fashion director Tom Ford's directorial debut he's directed It produced it and written it it's a single man which stars Colin fth of course now Colin has already won one award and gain numerous nominations including a Golden Globe and a baa for his portrayal of a man dealing with the loss of his partner later today we'll find out if he's been nominated for an Oscar I do hope so and I caught up with him yesterday little enough [Music] you said this was one of the most intense acting experiences that you've ever had perhaps it's hard to kind of to analyze that break down as to why I don't I don't think I noticed it until it was over and uh I came away feeling I hadn't quite finished something or wanted to go back it's a beautiful film as you would expect it actually looks incredible doesn't it it does and you would expect it and in some ways I think it Tom is a little burdened by that because we all know his history is a fashion designer and so everyone's got an eye for for the costumes and the composition of everything as if almost as if to say I told you so it helped me enormously I mean Tom didn't have to say very much the reason this man dresses so perfectly is so obsessed with with perfection is because he's desperate so it's a kind of body armor that he uses you know to defend himself against all that you know misery it's astonishing that I think you're absolutely brilliant in this movie really really brilliant I really do and the scene I think that everybody was talking about as well is when he gets told that the person the love of his life who happens to be a bloke is is dead and by a phone by a phone call and it's all closeup and it's all just going on behind your eyes was that a really hard thing to do because it's it's very very powerful it's not easy to do as an actor uh in principle it's not easy to to start a scene happy and end up desperately miserable in front of a rolling camera because it's very hard to prepare yourself for the scene you know we much prefer to get ourselves worked up first and say right got the hysterical misery roll camera you know uh in this case no it's he's not expecting anything in fact he thinks it's his love calling him right there and and he gets the news and it has to percolate you know before our eyes and then of course if we doing another take you have to go back to happy again and go through it all again so that shouldn't be easy but Tom has a quality as a director that facilitates that I don't quite know how he does it he keeps it very very simple gives you a lot of freedom he's very quiet anything he says to you uh is has this wonderful It's a Wonderful nugget of economical wisdom lots of people are talking about Oscar nomination is it something that you have thought about no my mind um you know what I don't know it's it's it's actually a bit of a bummer to be doing interviews the day before the nominations come out because you're supposed to have something to say about and um you you try your best not to give away with you've got any expectations or not um you know a buzz is a buzz uh and actually I suppose you know you can get buzzed into insensibility after a while this film wouldn't be seen by anybody were it not for this stuff M you know were it not for festivals and word of mouth and people just saying nice things about it and and nominations and all the rest of it it's very hard to know if you've got expectations until you get a disappointment then you find yourself [Music] out you look fantastic in it I have to say and when you got the script it did say naked scenes in the in the even in the ocean he's in the ocean and in the B and stuff did you kind of look and go okay no I can't tell you how much one heart one's heart sinks you know and you're approaching 50 and you go no naked man on bed naked man and water and really and um am I even within range of being worthy of taking my shirt off at this point and uh uh and then you know you you have a director who just very very gently and kindly invites you to get a trainer if you want yeah as he said not that you don't look great but you know do feel free to get one and I'll pay for it orate yes all right and get get yourself in shape and so you know one last battle against the ravages of gravity um you know and it may be my last no I I think you look fantastic the women of Britain and an awful lot of the men too thank you do they yes they do they do oh what a lovely BL he's so so so delightful and it's a great movie I can thoroughly recommend it
