our first guest is easily in the top three of ireland's finest imports he's an award-winning actor whom you can now see playing henry drax a brutish psychopathic murderer and those are his good points in the five-part tv series the north water do you think it's fair that one man should suffer for another man's crime i'm guessing then you think mckendricks not the culprit do you think he killed the boy it isn't for me to say isn't it there's no concern of mine i'm not sure i agree with that premieres a week from tomorrow on amc plus plus means you have to pay for it please say hello to colin farrell [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] i should have brought the measuring tape oh i know right make sure it's god it's no joke and everyone with their i assume you've shown the audience numerous times have you because everyone's in a mask of course yeah they're they're they're in a mess hi everyone in your masks i'll just assume you're all constantly laughing quietly at how humorous i am over the next few minutes yeah they're good for the eggs yeah exactly it's a big they should put like smiley faces or something she needs to be given a pen and a mask and you can smile and that'll take too long hey luds so colin i know you and you're a nice guy and this character you're playing is creepy as hell he's very scary i mean like well he murders like three or four sailors and there's some one yes he murders at least a few yeah yeah he's a bad man i mean he's a bad there is a darkness at the heart of this fella that is the color of night yeah he has no apology he's just a creature of as he i mean he has an ideology as well as far as he's concerned he's a creature of nature and when he wants to fill in the gap he'll fill in the gap when he wants to fill in another gap he'll do that he has no compunction no apology and uh a terrifying individual yeah fun to play yeah and you shot this what you were like in the in the north pole so yeah we were up in the arctic bearing up there right oh man it was beautiful yeah yeah we were polar bears we were the furthest north i mean there's been documentaries obviously short shot much further north but we were 500 miles from the north pole and we we're about uh 300 miles from any land or any civilization at all and it was the furthest north any show who's ever been shot and and so we had polar bear watchers which we'd shoot what would they do is they they take the boat there was three boats we all lived on a crew of 150 and we would park the boat beside a large chunk of ice and they would get off the boat the expedition that we worked with and they would drill three holes in the ice and then they'd put logs in the holes tie a rope from the boat onto the logs and because each piece of ice would move 10 miles in 24 hours and then we disembark we'd shoot on the ice go to bed in the morning get up shoot on the same piece of ice until it broke which it broke while we were on it and i asked one of the lads of the expedition i know myself i asked like daily and i asked of the lads in the expedition i said how how deep is the ice it's got to be you know 20 or 30 feet he's like no no it's three feet deep i said what now i've had ice cubes and straight whiskey that seemed like they were deeper than three feet deep i mean and so and so it was it was but it was lovely to be there it was so quiet except for the wind that was howling and we saw polar bears like feet away what i was saying about the polar bear watches was for protection insurance thank god we never encountered one up close because if if it did what nature would prescribe it does then somebody might have shot it and then that would have been a disaster bring the whole question of a tv show and is it worth it but polar bears 50 feet away from us on the boat and at night we saw polar bear i have it on me on my iphone i did a little shaky video because i was so excited um the most beautiful thing ever a walrus visited us one day and seals everywhere it was just i kind of got for the first time something i'd never questioned before which is why people particularly in the past who found themselves on expeditions into kind of um uh places that were hostile always when they came back to more civilized parts of the planet felt a pull kind of a magnetic pull back i i got it it's it's something that's so bewitching about the place it was so beautiful and speaker you did something crazy there speaking of the polar bears in the water what you you what does that i saw something on your uh little video you did the polar bear oh the polar plunge yeah [Laughter] [Applause] did you see that did you see that errant finger coming in somebody was screaming at me swim out further i think yeah no sorry as you saw i wanna know that those little socks you had on what was the purpose of that did you help any at all just for standing on the snow not for them for a second no bad idea because it took a while i had to crack them off at the end of it oh my god is he telling the truth so okay you shot this before uh before covet yeah 19 right okay yeah well it was a very different place yeah yeah and then you were you were working on the on batman did you go from here to the batman or yeah yeah yeah it was fun thanks person i was in um wonder shooting that and uh did you get to finish that i finished it about five months out so i was in london when the started to hit the fan and i was very glib about it at the beginning i was like everyone needs to cheers just to flew i know you know but i went there i was like yeah it's nothing it'll and then the border starts to be closed and i got out on i think the third last plane to come back here and when i came back here that was march i think wasn't it when i came back here it was armageddon it was very strange you know i went to me local galsons to stock up on some groceries because i knew we were going into quarantine and uh i bumped into a producer friend that i hadn't seen in years and he looked like he was about to perform oral surgery he had gloves i put had a mask and you know his shopping cart looked like a game of jenga it was stuffed up wobbling with kitchen roll and it was it was insane and then we just me and my boy yeah we locked down and and uh there's what a year it's been for everyone in so many ways what a just tragic and difficult year of social unrest and essential things happening that have needed to happen and ugliness that we've seen and you know the homelessness here it's pretty tough to see yeah and i i'm tearing up here like an excuse me but it's pretty tough to see i don't get it am i doing anything about it right now no i'd like to think about doing something better but i don't understand how so many people can be on the street i say that knowing full well how fortunate i am and i live in a nice house right i have a very safe existence no but you're right we we do need to get it i don't get it yeah you're right you're right no you're you're absolutely absolutely right we need to we need to do something um yeah it's amazing yeah excuse me yeah it's it's it's bad it's bad but but you know things are opening back up and uh and you haven't been home you haven't been to ireland in a long time i have been a long time i miss it i'm going back soon okay cool yeah going back soon it'll be it'll be in ireland's yeah we're stre everywhere i always wanted to go no no was it ever on the uh uh for discussion like to go and do your show take your show there or or would you just go as a tourist would you bring the kids i would just drink i would just go over here face that's all yeah my kids uh my kids are 12. yeah yeah so it's not working out for you oh boy yeah it's all about the phone that's all they want the ipad the ipad where we live yeah the ipad where we live yeah yeah that's a blessing and a curse yeah that's the only way you can uh you can like punish them yeah not sorry the switch just sitting here about to lose it uh on the homeless and i was like yeah but i'm gonna beat it out of yes it's a it's a it's a broad spectrum interview on the it's a broad spectrum well i love you and uh thank you for being here thanks for having me on two man have fun and have fun back home thanks and uh hi the family and all thanks and uh the the north water premieres a week
