so what you can sort so one of the things I want to look at in the show is the the idea of lies I'm fascinated genuinely with detecting lies for example in in a game of poker or a long-term relationship and I don't have time obviously for a long-term relationship here today so we're going to go with poker instead because every single day millions of pounds all over the world are won and lost by the ability to reach the other players I'm not going to ask you to gamble any money right now you can relax and we're gonna play strip poker instead your mother said no but your I said yes obviously this is true right if I asked both of you right now to just think of any cards you'd probably go for the ace of spades or the Queen of Hearts that's exactly what I went for I knew it right I am the 'living people at home watching this no I was holding it towards his face to try and cancel oh oh some people hold me a thought of birthday card as well people turn through that mind reader so and remember the card that you have cut to okay and take all the cards and just shuffle them all up so that I have no idea what that card is no Phillip if you could hold the cards up I'll look away hold them so the only you can see them behind the backs of them as well although you're shuffling is fantastic well it's not very good we've learned talking and shuffling today go you hide the back so there bearing in mind five cards the odds of me getting all of these are over three hundred and eleven million to one or as I like to call it unlikely okay so we're trying it close but there's items of clothing that you owe me ah not sure I've got five on holy you're only thinking of a card right so this is me warming up and I'm gonna explain a bit more about this yeah you got it going you had great the truth is obvious I've been in your mind before I'll sleep with just the card I won't tell them any of the lies that you've told for example that friend who you didn't get the text message from last week or what you were really doing last Monday night at home with Dan watching a boxset good right uh just the car just the car I know just the card okay so in your mind just keep thinking of it and I'm gonna be honest I actually think I know what already because when you thought I was pay attention there to fill up there I was actually paying attention to you my hand was on your shoulder I was also very much watching and paying attention to what you're doing this is true right if you want to catch someone open the line if someone is lying if they move a lot if they were very still and rigid that's the body language demeanor changing and the opposite of they're very still then they start moving it's the fight-or-flight response that kicks in a great way to do it is when they think you're watching someone you actually are paying attention to them at the side of your eye and that way they really give off what it is they're thinking so I think I already know what the card is now I'm going to take out the card I hope you are thinking of and leave it face down on the table because I feel wrong they're gonna feel bad for you I'm rightly so uh no I hope I've got it but this isn't just about me getting a thought out of your head today this is about me trying to put one in there as well so you're gonna read my mind okay have you ever done this before ever okay right now try and get a sense of what the value is whatever if you're right okay and the suit if I'm trying to get a card in your head yes don't say it just think of what you think I'm thinking okay obviously it's different to your card these cards you've shuffled on but would you please go through I won't look take out the cards that you believe I'm thinking of and place it just facedown on the table okay and you're just doing there's another career after this I'm telling you steal my job if you get this yeah well you don't read out loud okay got it have you done yeah perfect I'm just put the rest of the cards out the way as well put your hand on top of whichever card you've just taken out as well for the first time tell everyone at home what was the card that you were thinking of which one I remember I was thinking yeah yes because I was thinking of the first huh yes was the nine of diamonds lena diamonds yes I was thinking of the jack of spades yes oh good I guess dashes so how did I do that does feel like the right thing to say no I think we didn't set that up that just came to you instinctively like a hundred percent yeah and it was really weird because I nearly went for naught I nearly went for a nine and then I really went for a ten and I thought no Jack yeah just but it felt right it felt like a free choice is that what you do pretty much yeah and all these creepy way possible on earth or not thank God I think of God it's not gonna work like that tennis faith that's not what I was thinking I didn't give me enough there is you you'll be thinking of that all day though so now it's just pretty I know what you want to do it King of Diamonds no don't try again aces faith know what'll go think I'm very safe my job is definitely uh hey no three of clubs
