"And I'm not sure why"
This was actually the video that got me motivated to want to learn programming more, and to learn to make games specifically. The way he says "so...we can make it try to predict where you're moving" and then does it, or "oh yeah we can do anything, we can make arrows explode when they hit the ground", and then does it. The way he has java hotswap setup so he can just change stuff while it's running and play with the result right away.
Of course I knew that games were made by people writing code, but I was playing Minecraft at the time. And this guy was just fucking with it on the fly for fun, just to demonstrate for this video. It was a kind of grounding moment where I saw that "man, you really can do this!".
It's not an in-depth view of his code, or even and in-depth view of the programming process really, it just made me think "man, that's cool. I want to be able to do that." It was like a moment where there's a hobby you're interested in, and you see someone who already has that hobby make it look easy, and instead of thinking "man, I could never get that good", I thought "man, I want to do that. I'm going to learn and get to where I can do that."
