Don't You Wanna fauna [Music] this video is brought to you by Bullet safe Howdy Folks welcome to another video here at Ordnance lab one of the things you saw in February of 2022 whenever Russia invaded Ukraine you saw all these armchair theorists my LinkedIn feed was full of all these people theorizing that it's going to be this new era of warfare all these special things are going to happen it's going to be different and what do we see we see a return to World War One stuff you've got literal trenches you've got mass human wave attacks hell they're literally pulling weapons out of armories I'm sorry museums that are Museum pieces from the first world war and employ them there in Ukraine what happened at least you know my amateur Theory here is it well after we exp they expended all of their expensive um hard to replace Munitions what do they have left now you've got guys going out there getting their sks's out um using uh all sorts of dated Munitions and dated weapons and one of the things that we saw that was sent to us by my class mate from armor officer basic course at Fort Knox a million years ago Mr gunzing gear was this Fanta grenade and again we said it's similar to what happened in Iraq where the insurgents were using military ordinance to start off with well once they expended all that they started to go with improvised munitions and this is a similar thing there so what we're going to do is we're going to go to Jake now who instead of listening to me as a history major trying to explain grenades to you we'll explain it from his chemistry stuff Hello friends Jake here the supposed explosive expert of course there's plenty of people online that argue with me all day long about them being even more experts so hey they beat me whatever but yeah so when we saw that video I thought it was pretty interesting because you know you'd think that the Ukrainian War would bring out some interesting and high-tech Munitions and yet a soda bottle stuffed with fragmentation source and an unknown explosive and a Russian grenade fuse and I was like that is about as improvised as it gets and now basically I ask a bunch of questions um why why that I just don't know I mean I'm not over there asking questions over the ukrainians nor the Russians as to why they would do that but hey you know what in war man it's War baby what are you gonna do about it so you haven't seen the video the video is really interesting it's I think it made it rounds on tick tocks and a whole bunch of other social media platforms but you can see that is a soda bottle stuffed with a fragmentation source and what appears to be possibly plastic explosive I'm not totally sure I'm not over there to ask the guy who made it and nor do I want to go over to the Ukrainian situation and get myself involved that's a whole different mess what we did is we just basically recreated as best we can and have it around here somewhere hold on aha I found it I misplaced it I'd lose my head if it wasn't attached to my shoulders but here we go this is the best Recreation we can based upon what we see in the video we got fragmentation you know that we think is clone correct I don't know if you really can make this a clone correct item it's not standardized but we're not going to use a grenade fuse to toss this because well one this thing weighs almost three kilos fully loaded it is not something that you can easily toss and two for safety reasons we're going to do a remote detonation with a blasting cap because well Sean and I really don't want to frag ourselves so what we're going to do is we made two of these we're going to compare it on an open air detonation and then in a fighting position detonation in comparison to a Russian F1 grenade as the Baseline so let's head down to the range and test this thing out against the Russian grenade just like all our previous experiments this Phantom test required a little bit of range preparation to get the party started so we dug up a few holes around the blast area to post up not one but Three Wooden silhouette targets we painted them red so you can easily see them and numbered them so they're easy to differentiate you know because all wood Silhouettes look alike the wood Silhouettes were positioned at random distances around the designated Blast Zone to simulate three unsuspecting soldiers that are about to get heated lastly we secured the range and put up proper warning signs to ensure pesky wandering bystanders are aware that stuff is about to go Kaboom Safety First and stuff now what are y'all gets triggered by us coming out here and using explosions remember we are licensed by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco firearms and explosives to do all of this stuff we're also registered at the state department we have a comprehensive risk management program where we continually do or work to improve our safety and doing everything in a very calculated methodical way but if you are mad and angry and you want someone to call remember you always want to call the Royal Canadian Mounted Police first there are always your first point of contact if anything with ordinance lab bothers you once we got that in order test number one can begin which is setting off the Russian F1 grenade this oldie but Goldie entered Russian service in 1939 and still sees action across the world the Russians made a lot of these grenades it has a relatively small explosive payload of only 60 grams despite this it has a reputation for generating a ton of fragmentation we primed it and placed it roughly centered towards our unsuspecting targets let's see what kind of frag pattern arises from the grenade thanks to Apex for providing these great kevlars bar in the hole yeah fragmentation [Music] the F1 grenade really is a big surprise in a small package something we notice is that the grenade makes a neat star blast pattern due to its Hull design that's pretty neat now for the topic of fragmentation well all the targets received a significant amount of frag damage Target 1 got the least amount of damage targets 2 and 3 definitely took the majority of the impacts the end result all three targets would have been major casualties as you all can see that the fragmentation on here is extremely unpredictable fragmentation other form of explosive ordinance it's almost impossible to predict you could have a grenade go off right next to someone and they somehow didn't get hit by anything while someone 100 meters away takes a tiny fragment to the brain housing group and is dead so this right here hopefully will give you all an idea of that where you can see that these guys were injured but not any sort of predictable manner also all of the injuries would have been to their lower extremities where it would have hit key organs and also Key Bones and stuff I think all these guys right here probably well they definitely would have been out of the fight probably fatally injured if not they would have been a serious Casualty that would have had to have been evacuated huh but what could they have done to protect themselves and by protection I'm not talking about what you and the boys use when you go to Boys Town in Tijuana or over to Bangkok or whatever we're talking body armor and this is one of our sponsors today with uh Bullet safe that they provided us as body armor they've got a wide variety of both hard and soft armor at affordable prices there's a link in the comments section I'm sorry in the description where you can go in there and purchase stuff from them and you'll also be helping us out here it is ready to go what we've got we've got about a thousand BBS in there along with some other pieces of metal that we saw that what we can see from the video we think would be clone correct so to say now no the Army is ruined all kinds of stuff for me in my life like camping hiking all that and wearing body armor if you're not paying me I'm not wearing body armor that is unless we're dealing with explosives especially ones that produce fragmentation this is a lot of stuff that's going to be set everywhere no idea where it's going to be going so it's extremely important that whenever you're dealing with stuff especially with fragmentation produced stuff you wear your proper PPE and all that good stuff just like the F1 grenade we place the Phantom bomb in the center around the targets now let's see how much fragmentation gets thrown from The Phantom thank you the Phantom bomb left a bigger crater than the F1 grenade and for obvious reasons it had about twice the explosive payload it also peppered the targets with a ton of fragmentation Target 1 took a whole section of metal to the shoulder yeah definitely a goner Target 2 became a wooden piece of Swiss cheese covered in holes from the pellets Target 3 fared better than Target 2 but not by much it still got well seasoned by fragmentation still all three targets are dunzo and pretty much useless at this point so we made two new ones for the next test and a fighting position AKA our Trench we dug out this position months ago and finally are getting to use it we positioned the new wood in targets a few meters apart in the trench one target will be going full monty while the other Target will get to have some body armor the idea here is to see if armor would improve the survivability of a Target against the Phantom and here we are in our fighting position that we dug back in January and they were much deeper uh rain has made them much shallower but anyways what we're going to be doing is we're going to be showing y'all in contrast to how it went off before where it was in the open we're going to see what happens here in a trench we've got two Targets here and one of them's even wearing body armor from Bullet safe and we're going to be testing out to see how that works against fragmentation now one thing to make sure this is a level 3A instead of body armor that we're using it's not designed for bombs and explosives and whatnot so this right here is not a scientific test and if it fails it does not mean that that they have oh crappy armor or whatever it's again it's a freaking bomb all right let's get onto the Boom hold on to your butts Phantom bomb number two detonated perfectly but the real question is how did it perform well the unarmored target took a huge injury to its hip area it was also heavily peppered with fragmentation so yeah definitely a casualty the armor Target also was heavily fragmented especially around the lower section of the Target and for obvious reasons as the Phantom bomb went off at the ground level of the trench the vest had two very obvious Center Mass strikes did it stop the projectiles well let's find out well as you can see it looks like homeboys pretty much 50 Shades of bone after getting hit by that the effect of the grenade is different in the trench because again it doesn't have that open area for it to be dispersed so you get the injury both from the force of the explosion and from the effects of the shrapnel he got hit a couple of times and definitely not going to be out of the fight all right so we've got this Bullet safe armor right here this is level 3A let's see what happened well first before we see what's behind our hidden door here we can also notice we got injuries here to his lower extremities well actually his waist on down so he also would be 50 Shades of boned I think let's see what we got here nope we got no penetration from the vest and remember this right here is just level 3A this is not level four um looks like that it got embedded in there that's pretty impressive that um the suffer mud explosion it was able to stop that all right well hopefully you all enjoyed this video we learned some things with it that yes those Fanta grenades that they're making in the Ukraine would be an extremely effective weapon but we also need to keep in mind that they're designed they're not something you can just throw like a regular fragmentation grenade they're heavy and they're going to be very difficult to employ so like I said earlier they thought that the war in Ukraine was going to be all these fancy weapons but once they expended all the fancy weapons they're stuck with what they can make and you're seeing again the stuff we're like in Iraq they use the insurgents would use primarily military weapons and then as they ran out of those they'd have to improvise stuff and so this is right here is an improvised grenade but don't think it's something you can just throw together by going down to the hardware store we use plastic explosives and a bunch of other stuff that you can't buy and again don't do this at home because these are considered destructive devices under the National Firearms Act so you make that and you're probably going to get a visit from the ATF FBI and all these other folks and again if you don't like this it makes you very mad and you want to report us to the cops make sure to report us to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and that's a wrap a big thanks to Bullet safe providing us that level 3A vest it turns out it actually stops fragmentation from an improvised grenade like that if there's something you all want us to excuse me to try out please put it in the comments section and we'll see if we can get around to that no promises but we always like to put things to the test and see what actually happens with that ordinance so we'll see y'all next time here at ordinance lab
