she also founded her own nonprofit organization the Eastwood ranch foundation where Alison works to improve animal welfare nevertheless Alison decided to quit the acting portion of her career after starring in the movie finding harmony in 2014 four years later though she went out to eat and her phone rang as she trekked to the restaurant and the man on the phone was Clint Eastwood's producer Sam Moore as Alison recalled to variety in 2018 Moore said you know your dad wants you to be in this film the producer spoke of Eastwood's then-upcoming flick the mule once again her father wanted her to play his daughter just as she did in the 1984 movie tightrope this time though Alison would play the daughter to a much older Clint and a completely different character in the mule the movie in which he wanted her to star her father would play a near centenarian who gets caught smuggling millions of dollars worth of drugs for a cartel at first Alison said she resigned herself to the fact that she had retired from acting she told variety I sort of threw in the towel and decided to focus on a lot of different things this led her to wonder why Clint had picked up the phone to call her in the first place but the fact he had kept her thinking about the job soon Alison had changed her tune she recalled the more I thought about it I was like well maybe this is an opportunity to not only play clance daughter but also to spend some time with him her husband Stacy Poitras warned her she would regret it for the rest of her life if she didn't act alongside her famous father in taking the role Alison got to see her father's work ethic firsthand she described he's a machine I think he has a robot ship on the back of his head he's not human and Alison could make such a statement from experience she had directed two films of her own and she knew how hard her dad worked I didn't get worried Alison continued I don't know how Clint does it I'm not sure I can only aspire that I could have half the stamina he has I directed two films and the last one almost killed me he just seems to make it look easy which is very inspiring but it's also like why can't it be as easy for me still none of these sentiments touched on Clint's abilities as a father to his eight children it would be Alison who opened up on the subject - she spoke to closer and first said her dad differed greatly in real life from the people who he portrayed on the big screen Alison said my dad is a much more cool and laid back guy than a lot of his characters on top of that his daughter says Clint has no trouble making people laugh nor does he have reservations in laughing at the sad scary or sinister she added he has a wonderfully dry dark sense of humor of course Alison's mother and father didn't stay married but she added that their relationship had no bearing on how Clint treated her neither did his jam-packed Hollywood schedule she said my parents split up when I was pretty young but he always made time for us even when he was working as she grew up though Alison admitted that she didn't realize how much she admired her father Clint until later she added as a teenager you think your parents are dorky but as my brother and I matured we realized how much they meant to us my dad and I are good friends we laugh a lot we have a lot to share and Alison's half-brother Scott chimed in to laud his dad too but he described clancer reactions to his and the rest of his children's chosen career paths he told Closer weekly dad didn't care if I was a plumber or an actor he said whatever you do just do it well be humble about what you do be a good guy and tell the truth to that end Clint made sure his kids earned what they got growing up no handouts from their famous dad allowed Scott recalled to people I've had a job since I can remember and it's not like he was like hey what kind of car do you want my first car was a 91 Ford Crown Victoria that was $1,000 and I had to buy every car after that I had to do it all meanwhile Clint had certainly taken his own advice about hard work to heart the 11 time Academy Award nominee and four-time winner hasn't made a movie since the mule alongside Allison in 2018 but he is in the pre-production stages of filming his next flick the ballot of Richard Jewell in his personal life Eastwood seems to be thriving too he has maintained a long-term relationship with Christina Sandara and while he has had plenty of failed marriages in his wake Eastwood could make the walk down the aisle again a source told closer and his kids would probably vouch that he's unpredictable the source concluded you never know with Clint you
