Climbing a 1000m Big Wall in 12hrs

is a 1000 meter high clip with 200 meters of vertical bushwack and 800 meters of vertical rock face with plenty more bushwhack on route through the camera this looks like the approach but we're actually on pitch three it's located in the south of norway and is frozen in winter a waterfall in spring climable in summer and then usually wet again from rain in autumn the season is quite short for rock climbing on this cliff and you really have to pick your moments in order for success earlier this summer i tried a route known as brillips carbon with my friend eric much of the upper section was wet and we actually quested off route to reach the top by a new route a few weeks later after a brilliant forecast and more good weather predicted myself and mari went to try brillip's garden again as is common with this clip what the weather says you don't always get and this is proper rain it's actually raining hurts my feelings when it starts raining i wouldn't even go cragging in this weather yeah we're not gonna climb a big wall we failed finally after some more good weather again with mari i went to make my third attempt at climbing this route we're here we're ready to go round two first round we bailed because it started raining on us when it said full sun now it says full sun and it's uh it's not quite raining but it's dry enough yeah i think it'll clear up [Music] yeah i love it really far yeah throw it really far that way spicy here we are now attempt number three pitch number two it's a little bit greasy this morning definitely a little bit greasy but with bush things are starting to clear up which is good hopefully the top section of the route is going to be good for us and i um need to start climbing very soon because i've got that much rope left it's a bit damp in the chimney isn't it good despite the very small amount of loose rock on the first two pictures they were actually very nice and had good climbing on solid slabs and chimneys the next couple of pictures were easier however they did contain a good amount of grass and bush destined to be a classic this beginning it's so grassy you can get this sort of quality in yosemite vertical bushwack it's the picture your dreams through the camera this looks like the approach but we're actually on pitch three depending on the quality of the grass how it's formed and its ability to collect water dictates the difficulty of this style of climbing yeah so we're at pitch four the same place as me and eric were at when all these walls were wet and we didn't know where to go last time we quested that way this time we're going to quest that way we're we're a questors with forges of the ground is that enough with ico up there that was a really fun fish yeah not that easy well done yeah a little bit tricky seven minus actually so it was at this point we started to go off route we actually thought we were on this pitch but in fact we were questing off of the wrong corner system over here [Music] sorry can you just explain what you're doing with that backpack [Laughter] you're tied into the backpack which is on your back safety exactly back and forth the front and the back safety in the front and the back off within the website is usually fun [Music] though mario's just finished pitch the pitch seven pitch or maybe not [Music] we've got one more seven plus and then some nice easy rambling to the top brightened up a lot now so that's good really nice weather so the rock is not so claggy anymore less claggy don't like the clag we're cloudless i'm gonna sort this bill out crack on get it done bishop we go [Music] [Music] i'm glad that pitch wasn't in the sun yet yeah no it's nice we just caught it before it was it's coming into the sun now [Music] good that's all the sevens in the bag yep [Music] we're in we're on we're in what pitch are we on i don't know [Music] nice few fives and few sixes bish bash bosh name bother for team send well that must have been small for your fingers yeah [Music] nice what chalk is that yeah it's a massive joke here yeah huge it sounds a bit crumbly this fit actually so i got worried nice one good pitch that one really good best pitch of the day yeah this looks uh looks a bit more off yeah it looks a bit easier [Music] we carried on up the obvious corner system which had some of the nicest climbing of the route so far at this point we thought we only had much easier climbing to the top but in fact we'd actually joined the route further to the left so we're higher than we think which is good we thought we were questing uh into the middle of nowhere but it just so happens i guessed the right way so that's a winner isn't it flaming winner sight come on grab those bundles of grass i grabbed that uh tree as well uh like two foot above you grab the whole lot of it yeah nice oh that's yeah i grabbed that one with the right hand that's what i pulled on yet nice nice good effort but i think we're one picture on the top so that would be great i should smash on but this isn't this doesn't make sense no that didn't make sense in the top oh does it at all i feel like we're something's wrong in the top or off route or i don't know it's got dark on us and the top is wrong yeah i wonder where we are i have no idea where we are i don't get it no i don't get it who knows because i feel like we were onto something in the beginning yeah it just nothing makes sense at the top here isn't your favorite pitch yeah i was just like holding grass and then the grass broke you know i was just like just like ah so whenever something fell off i was just like i was like throwing myself into a really steep grass that wasn't it so steep and wetness and those weird trees i think i'm gonna go that way isn't this the top uh i did have a look that way it's maybe like 15 meters or something that's the top nice one smashed it good work that's a wrap i'm hungry let's eat something
