state high school record for career total offense and he's the first true freshman quarterback to start a season opener in North Carolina history he's been brilliant in the fourth quarter it's early in games where he struggled we'll see if that changes here today they're gonna hand it off here to Michael Carter on first down that's encouraging if your target then given the offensive line struggles this year Sam Howell looks the part he actually in stature reminds him a little bit a baker may feel can't be a rollercoaster emotionally he's not very even-keeled handled the starting rains offense I tell you Greg that offensive series began and ended because they want to do to enable themselves to take those shots by being out of the chains on first and second down and get them third Ross is such a big physical presence but he was an outside guy predominantly last year in the slot right there in North Carolina making that tackle in space is critical for their success on defense yards shy so to be third down and two again [Music] picked up the first down earlier witness people see what he does here [Applause] and attached the Front's into the first four games it's data to bringing down the explosive Rodgers on the critical third down they bring out a field goal team after the one-yard last the 40-yard try for BT and he missed it not even close [Applause] Potter [Music] Tom Meighan Vil a missed 40-yard field goal by Clemson gives free freshman quarterback Sam house another opportunity and he's going to keep the baked in the hand off and picking up about four yards on first down against this Clemson defense which the most yardage he had given up in an entire quarter was 74 yards in the first quarter against am North Carolina went 75 yards birthplace less than two minutes on the opening possession here today with Xavier Thomas right in his grill that's a fine play from Sam Howland to play third down don't want to take a sec obviously to make a third-down almost Clemson's defense the job on second down a good job rallying to the football and third down good response after the big opening drive by the Tar Heels true freshman punter Ben cannon who grew up in Ireland playing rugby and soccer moved to Raleigh they've booted deep to Amari Rogers anytime there's some content and a ball scooted out of bounds so it's going to be Clemson ball Trevor Lawrence best players keep getting hurt and certainly hope Diaw me Browns going to be ok okay just a little sluggish getting to sideline but he's an important piece of this offense and the receiving groups North Carolina they've repeatedly been able to get four yards boy yawns blossoms first down but it's been second down that's been the Achilles heel because it's put them in third be able to convert last clock on that screen they got to start getting the production on second down they've been throwing it on second down and they haven't really had a lot of success doing it have a big offensive line really big offensive line stem on second down see if they can match the push that they got in the box for Clemson and they will flow pumps it out in the flat close to the line the game before Isaiah Simmons makes the tackle sorts third down and short about two to go [Applause] as the defensive coordinator Brent Venables check check check check check [Applause] second to go here on third the quarterback was available this might be a spot the website on the heavyset offense that's good [Applause] Antonio Williams senior came in with just nine carries this season looks like he got enough to move to change their huge up front especially number 73 behind is a good job coming off the edge my age a tear almost making the play in the backfield the number 73 marks but even the right guard for North Carolina six seven 332 in their ability to that he is a big boy really trying to run short yardage situations it's almost intercepted Isiah Simmons deflected Chad Smith almost got it on the redirection you better be aware of number 11 is he is athletic and can be a complete game record for offenses really tight window the Sam Howell was trying to find right there and you see the length of Isaiah Simmons at six foot four reaching out that arm and knocking down the past dangerous throw right there by the freshman there's a life that his arms they so long he just makes windows so much smaller just by extending his reach came to Clemson as a safety now is it six for 230 pounds they faked the referees game choice [Applause] sittings bro three yards it will bring up third the Tigers for 14 coming into today among the worst in the country not just in third house conversions but most offensive categories but they've been standing so far here just to maybe get seven or eight and then see if that's enough for their field goal kicker or maybe [Music] such a tough spot against the defense like Venables defensively [Applause] been relatively conservative Lindy shocked to see them play it safe here as well with a deep into traffic that's incomplete as two Tigers collide news and Simmons the pass intended for Carl Tucker for it down and Simmons is still shaken up and a really dangerous throw here as you see Isaiah Simmons [Applause] on the deck for the Clemson Tigers again it was that collision with Tanner Muse friendly fire his pass by Sam Hall tried to hit Carl they're ranked 5th but they're playing as well as anybody in the country right now they are and then they have solved the issues that plagued them on the defensive side of the football last year they almost the entire 10 yards before he's brought down by Miles Doran but the talent of etn on display here he runs through initial contact and it doesn't even slow down so slippery and as such soggy beautifully it's an inside one breaking it to the outside you see that speed I still have both wide receiver and it running back really good the trenches there the tough time matching up weekend week about four five there for Bo Corrales it isn't just the perfect script for North Carolina guy you got to play field position eating Funston to help you a little bit then you need to make a couple of explosive plays then this is the quarter that North Carolina has fun has been their flop so to get over the hump here Craig and Dave huge to punch this infinite confidence they've only scored 13 season that's third down along 540 on the clock in the second quarter the smart play there by D ami ground maybe they saw it they covered it function extremely sound well-coached not often are they completely unable to come up when it was Daz nuisance didn't look like a great throw guys fourth down just a little bit low for Sam Howell and that's kind of been his miss his first few weeks the season when he misses it's usually well which is not the worst thing in the world because if it's low it's gonna be incomplete or your guys gonna go down and scooping you miss it hi could get tipped
