[Music] on a steamy afternoon in Death Valley dambo Sweeney's Clemson Tigers look to extend the nation's longest winning streak to 17 with Trevor Lawrence as their starting quarterback they've won their last 11 by 20 points or more today they face what is likely their toughest test of the regular season Jimbo Fisher's Aggies took Clemson to the wire last year behind 430 yards from kelan mine and Fisher says his quarterback is much better than a year ago it's number 12 Texas A&M at number one Clemson and it is 96 degrees here Memorial Stadium we're moments away from the hottest opening kickoff [Applause] [Music] and plus a good afternoon everybody and welcome Sean the gun along with Todd Blackledge will be joined in just a moment by Holly Rowe delighted and happy with us Clemson didn't have a lot of competition last year Todd on its way to 15 and all of the national championship but in Game two of the year at College Station they won by only two they survived a two-point conversion attempt by A&M in the final minute and it's a very confident led by their quarterback come on well and he should become last here he showed out in this game [Applause] three touchdowns three created so much problem for this vaunted Clemson depend was his ability to extend plays with his legs and make throws on this year he's better in two ways his decision-making and his accuracy watch this play play-action he makes a quick read he sets his feet calmly in the pocket and delivers an on-time strike close the touchdown but he still hasn't abilities on the moon this girl right guys in all of college football that can make that throw of course from the Aggies are on defense a lot to handle as a matter of fact my Kel code the defensive coordinator said it's a historically great combination of quarterback and wide receiver for the Clemson Tigers who are now taking the field here at Memorial Stadium as the explosive of an offensive group as you're ever going to see in college football with this Clemson Tiger offense led by their quarter more than Trevor Lawrence played last year the better he got her man just kept getting smarter and smarter by the time he got to the playoffs he was absolutely unstoppable speedy turnip actn4 five yards last week and then out why they've done two six four acrobats Justin Ross is the leading receiver T against Letterman here at death valley we mentioned a moment ago Texas A&M ease coaches and Kellan Monde himself believe he's much improved over a year ago particularly as a thrower and decision maker as we welcome in Holly roll Holly the Clemson folks to the Trevor Lawrence is better than a year ago and that's a scary thought well that's because he is after he did such a great job last year winning the national championship when he and Davo Sweeney met for his exit interview in the spring to get stronger and in first game [Applause] their catapult GPS system using his O'Lakes more in the quarterback running game with some zone read touchdown guys he said that he's not going to go crazy back there but at times he felt trapped last year behind the line of scrimmage wanting to run more and showcase that athleticism we're seeing a more confident bigger stronger Trevor Lawrence and it's a good reminder he's pretty good with his legs for the competition meanwhile Kellan won the junior from San Antonio leaves a very confident Aggie team here is a matter of fact they're starting lead guard Jared Hocker predicted an upset win earlier in the year some coaches might of Bristol Jimbo Fisher said I like the fact that they expect to win yeah I'm not sure they needed to say that it's good to believe that but I'll say this it's a lot easy to say that what you don't have to face three first-round draft picks like Clemson head on their defensive line a year ago Clemson won the toss and deferred so Jimbo Fisher elected to take the football first and BT Potter will kick off with the light breeze at his back the crowd here would like more of a breeze to cool them off 96 degrees at kickoff the previous then kickoff to the stadium was 95 which has happened twice in the past so the war kick on temperature effort here in club some feels that's a big advantage with their death there is a strong way boots it out of the back of the end zone so here comes Kelly mond jr. from San Antonio Texas a couple of years of high school football there and then he went to IMG Academy to finish up gym two hundred and seventy five and a half total yards per game last season Jimbo Fisher is as good of a quarterback coach as you'll find in college football and this is kelan montt second full year in his system that's why everybody expects to see a jump in his productivity and his efficiency the 25-yard line Jay Sean Corbin is the running back as they operate the pistol we'll play fake inside and they throw out a single coverage hit a drop ball Davis turned and was opened Darian Kendrick a converted wide receiver is the cornerback in coverage for the Tigers nets who is going to get the most throws his way Darian Kendrick very talented athlete but AJ Tara when the other side is a proven commodity in corner to expect number one to get a lot of throws his way down the Bulls defensive coordinator for Clemson said this is the best quarterback he'll face this year and likely the best receiving group davus Rogers the headliner we have four wide receivers on second intent and a deep throat my mom that he's off target that might have been a touchdown there was a strategy to long for Cameron Buckley got behind Isaiah Simmons these are the kind of throws that you can't let get by I mean when you get coverage like this that's a linebacker Simmons running on a wide receiver you got a slot receiver on a linebacker could have been a big play maybe a touchdown it was an overthrow and now you've got third and ten on your first possession that's where they're looking for improvement from on just 56% career cleats their place and percentage expect much higher he's revamped his mechanic sometime we'll talk more about that as we go opportunity for a big strike early the flags are all Clemson was showing pressure in that little slot tight-end got a little antsy ball star James Carter the referee a was jaylen wider Meyer true freshman a tight end and sec officiating through on the field I wouldn't be surprised at Jimbo Fisher calls a rotten here back themselves up they had two incomplete passes they anticipated fourth quarter game might try to run the football here had a great weapon and [Applause] what receivers [Applause] dealing with the deafening noise one of the loudest venues in college football design quarterback run and he got belted after a four yard by Kavon Wallace the senior safety name is 23rd career started a good start for the Clemson defense again so much being made of the fact six of their starting seven of their front seven gone most of them to the NFL a lot of new faces in starting roles but guys who played significant snaps a year ago there's Braden man to punt the greatest season in the history of college football last year when he averaged 51 yards per punt as the great guy award whether unanimous all-american that's a good kick long and out of bounds that we're gonna returned by Darian Kendrick and Trevor Lawrence and Clemson we'll begin from the 27 yard line true sophomore from Cartersville Georgia Mel Holloway the last freshman quarterback to lead his team to a national title back in 85 before Lawrence did it [Applause] over Alabama when he was tremendous his ability to see and process things quickly at such a young age is what was remarkable last year made himself a middling grade in their opening win against Georgia Tech wasn't his best night for sure he's pressured early gets it off in the pluck for a short game to JC chalk the new starting tight-end just his sixth career catch the junior from Argyle Texas right away you see Justin Matta BK their best defensive lineman creating pressure he's gonna be a handful Clemson offensive line it's a veteran group but then guys as good as anybody in the country number 52 defensive lineman two of them drafted in the NFL but the coaches like this group there were immediately pressuring Lawrence again and dumped it off at a stream to track the CTN who got taken down by Anthony Hines at the 32 will be third down and five two plays in a row you're getting pressure or a hit on the quarterback and that's my calcio the defensive coordinator is got to be pleased with that first third down situation for his defense for returning starters on the offensive line for cleansing the only newcomer the left tackle Jackson partner on third and five pressure again lords on target first time across the 45 goes Justin Ross well they want to move Justin Ross around and they're gonna put him in a slot alive he's in the slot there's nobody right here in this area that's going to be too easy of a throw they try to run a linebacker out underneath it but that's not good enough for Justin Ross he's too good a receiver better put a body over top of him [Applause] now etn who was tremendous in that opening wind against Georgia Tech he gets dropped by Tyree Johnson here for loss he ran for a career-high 205 yards on just 12 carries they rushed for 411 in their opening win Texas A&M defense against the run last year even though they lost some guys third best in the country and they really did a great job against Clemson in that game against in College Station [Applause] 95 yards per game on the ground they think they can stop the run Trevor lore to the big target Justin Ross six-four and 205 sophomore from Phoenix City Alabama good 424 well play action again they're finding the hole in between the coverage this time there is a corner up but the safety is late getting over the top Miles Jones is the corner underneath but the play fake held the safety Lawrence was on target to the ground of Travis etn and he gets buried after crossing the 30 let's check in back in the studio is Cassidy Hubbard I don't think that's a big surprise anybody's been paying attention to army football the last few years on set in a name boss again and he gets to round miles Jones lost on the play of the yarn [Applause] Justin Ross is one of those guys that Dabo Swinney said when he showed up he was ready to play we need to put in a play right away from high school never started a game on chair only played one play in the game against A&M last year still led the team in receiving receiving winners all set in today receiving yards last year we can even 1,000 as the true freshman can they convert again on this time time to Trevor Lawrence and take throw to the end zone Judy Jennifer Ross the country miles Jones and coverage good coverage by Jones now the one thing with Texas am their corners are big miles Jones is six foot four so he's got the same body type as Justin Ross Morty Higgins and he's in good coverage watch the coverage by number 10 he's got eyes on the quarterback little hand on the receiver he's got his eyes on the football style when they play Clemson last year only 71 yards rushing on 32 carries their lowest output of the year two yards per carry nine and four last year for Fisher they finished on upbeat note winners of four in a row they hammered NC State in their bowl game second and two [Applause] out of the pistol again Corbin they head for a first down it was a bit cup didn't get much run last year they had treyvion Williams who rushed for over eighteen hundred yards to lead the SEC when Trayvon was a workhorse 271 carries in mean jae'sean o at 61 gallon man was the second leading rusher on the team so he's moving from role player two primary guy right now sophomore out of Rockledge rushing in there opening wind 41 to seven at home last week against Texas state their biggest receiver matched up on Kendrick at the bottom of the screen now they stick with the pistol and with Corbin running the left is going to be quite a chess match this whole night I mean Jimbo Fisher and Brent Venables the defense of Courtney this is actually the eleventh time that they've met each other tenth in a row the first time they met Jimbo was an assistant in LSU in the national championship game LSU against Oklahoma brent was the defensive coordinator there and now ten straight years they've been matching wits and two of the best in the business great defense as they won the national title last year but they lost three of the top 17 picks in the NFL Draft earlier this year were Clemson defensive lineman second and seven unlike a lot of teams that go up tempo ly baggies take their time that's a high throw for kendrick Rogers and it's really complimentary football their defensive numbers were so much better a year ago at A&M but a big reason why is they play far fewer snap right because the offenses of in a big inaros was it's not a they do have tempo in their arsenal but they are more of a pro style approach but right now Kellan Hahn the disturbing thing right now for Jimbo Fisher he's not accurate he's missed a couple throws early in the ballgame that he probably should make the topic possession last year with his pro-style attack Charlotte held the ball did the agates pressure up the middle Isaiah Simmons started after mom's close off the hands of the freshman tight end jaylen wider Meyer they came after they brought pressure Simmons and Scouse key both are rushing the quarterback Mon does a good job hanging in there to the last minute but again an overthrow that when I can understand but a couple the other misfires he just hasn't been accurate here to start the ball game but a chance now again for Braden man to flip the field and put his defense in a great position on their second possession as big as his leg is he might have to take a little one off this as he kicks from just shy of midfield Gary and Kendrick back standing in his own tent different [Music] his best effort that's not his normal way of kicking here right he tried to kick it differently more of a rugby style kick that's the 29 yard punt for man right for an upset oh yes it does there will be an upset hacker basically guaranteed victory are you aware sir I have never thought about losing the game of the season and I can honestly say the first time I ever did that before some interesting comments and confident and ease in the week leading up to this game we mentioned Jimbo Fisher said he kind of likes it that this team is confident and he said he the last player on the team he ever would have expected to run his mouth like that was Jared hawk yes and one of those quiet soft-spoken humble guys and [Applause] a very confident Aggie football team for sure so no score almost midway through the first quarter Clemson on offense for the second time trap busy TN could not break free of the tackle from Jaden speed and great to see Amari Rogers back on the field for Clemson ACL surgery in the spring they thought he'd be out a lot longer did not play in the opener but back out there today after surgery in the spring on his right knee March 25th was the injury they were expecting the beginning of October to get him back the head of all the schedules we practiced Thursday with a huge brace on that leg Lawrence taken down well know if he stepped on some feet back there is actually taken to the ground that he's down and then James Henry Johnson nearest for you know Jackson Carmen the left tackles who knocked him down but Tyree Johnson was the guy rushing Jackson Carmen's a big man the left tackle knew starting left tackle he stepped on the the foot of Trevor Lawrence and brought him to the ground now third and long and two excellent plays on the first two plays of this series lots of six look like morons was grabbing down toward his left knee as he hit the grass third and 14 Lawrence complete dangerously off the hands of DeAndre Overton he had a shot at he got both hands on it again Overton another one of them five receivers at her six for Overton as the slot receiver taking the place of Hunter Renfro and he has a chance at this one just not able to hold him [Music] so here's will spires veteran punter jr. but this is thirty first their easy win over Louisiana Tech that's going to be another fun one tonight you can't wait to watch McKellan mahad free he's got to get a completion even if it's a little two or three yard throw he's got to get something positive to happen for him in the throw game it's a little too amped up on this big stage determined to prove is one of the best quarterbacks in the country hands to Jay Sean Corbin who gets banged out of bounds after a short game Holly you mentioned about the accuracy of Kellen mana just something to consider it is very hot down here about 96 degrees but it's even harder on the field where that heat is raiding up radiating up from this surface I see killin lawn with sweat on the top of his hands he keeps wiping it off on that towel on the side of his [Music] Kant was about a hundred degrees for ten straight days but just tell your body that you shouldn't be worried about dignity he's continuing to sweat we'll see if it affect him ladies go to sweat here today he said they weren't the heat they had a prolonged stretch in preseason camp and resolved weeks that's actually earned College Station right now right than it is here mom throws on target that his receiver Osmond could stay on his feet he yet more but he got the first down with about a half yard to spare I was just gonna add on to what Ollie was saying with this way and that comes in handy on a in the SEC from others in that cop who believe he has the skills to establish himself as one of the best in the country korban the head just shy of midfield that's a run that I'm surprised kelipot didn't check out oh there was blitz pressure showing on that side and he stayed with the play running right into that pressure that's why was such a short game pressed with Corbin so far you know when we met him yesterday I didn't think he was very big looking as a tailback he didn't look as big as trade down Williams last year if he'd be able to rhyme as strong as he is he's off to a pretty good starting and they list him at six feet [Applause] [Music] he's a strong runner good at sophomore for Rockledge Florida told us their fence near Cape Canaveral he's in the pistol mine plenty of time on inside the 41 really nice jump on the left side of the offensive line getting to push and then Corbin just fallen in behind and watch these guys right here they get a nice flush on his Clemson defensive front in Corbin finds a little crease and that's all he needed that's a very good A&M offensive line they bring four starters back four players with starting experience the only new Carver Canyon green big number 55 the right bride was one of the most highly recruited players in the country last year true freshman 330 pounder of Humble Texas and the Aggies in no hurry [Applause] and he's chopped down at the 35 by Darian Kendrick well they read Isaiah Simmons on that time they put him on an island he's a great player he's rangy number 11 for Clemson but they just ran that option right at him and maude pressed him and as soon as he stepped towards the back Kellan long cut it inside for a nice game [Applause] former safety now he plays all over the place tremendous athletic ability including the four three one at 230 pounds [Applause] emerging star income nice cut to the inside he gets very close to another first down at the 32 tackled by Chad Smith a linebacker graduate student from Sterling Virginia at Smith's one of the new starting line backers made the tackle Isaiah Simmons kind of around the plot two plays in a row they kind of went out one of the best players his club's a defensive Simmons is one the corner AJ Terrell is the other Xavier Thomas their best Russian number three [Applause] the four down territory here for a net into the breeze pullback Barbie in the game again Corbin just enough for the first down of the yard to spare nice drive here for Texas A&M and no big one shot but just effective runs they've got the yards that they've needed and that offensive line is getting a chance to come off the football and pound a little bit on this new defensive fun and the other thing is doing its resting Mike out goes defense you know this is a nice time-consuming drive right here for the Aggie offense these two coaching staffs familiar with each other you mentioned a moment ago Jimbo Fisher Brent Venables gee wits [Applause] 2004 meeting between LSU and Oklahoma as they played each other for eight years when Jimbo was at Florida State and dabble and his staff were here well I'm thrown to the sideline intended for German Oz but here's Cassidy year two for two in the opener two chip shots against the Texas State Bobcats at 20 and 26 this is from 32 yards and right down the middle and Texas A&M is on the board first in the opening minute of College Football Hall of Fame [Music] good one it's a good one but for these perhaps our clues as we scan the names and numbers some of the great players and coaches in Clemson history so three committed for about eight to nine months it was a pretty high-profile kid and let's try to see TN he's now playing for Clemson he was originally out of Louisiana but he committed to the Aggies he said he was really solid on them for quite a while until there was a coaching change some of the things were shaking up around that program and he decided to deepen his recruitment late he swooped in Dabo Swinney gotten him at the very last minute here he is wearing the orange he's one of those special running backs in the country could have been an Aggie if not for that shake-up of the coaching staff but guys he's happy that he's here at Clemson he believes he's it right what he was surprised when he got the call from the Clemson coaches [Applause] Higgins and a Clemson first down or is it nothing in a market just short by about a yard Charles Oliver to tackle well what I am seeing from my koco's deep fronts right now is he's going to try to sneak an extra guy in the box as often as he can to stop Travis etn and then hope he can take his chances on the outside against these tall receivers he does not want Travis etn to beat him he's going to force Trevor Lawrence to run a little bit who's Mike elk oh right there in the white hat he's going to force law restaurant and he's going to hope his corners can hold up against these white outs terrific defensive coordinator but a long time with Dave Clawson now the the head coach at Wake Forest Brian Kelly from Notre Dame there one year that Jimbo Fisher brought him over last year I am Loren's deep throw for grabs an incomplete well-covered you mentioned the size of my house Jones and there it is yeah Elmo says Clemson wins a lot of jump balls but we have big guys who can compete for lows you got to be you got to be on the same plane as these wide receivers you can't get beat off the line of scrimmage first of all you got to be even with them so you can go up and fight for the football and you can't do it any better than Myles Jones actually in that case Justin Ross became a defender to knock the ball away etn the runningback four wide receivers three to the right of lawrence 18 blazing speed as he gets loose for the first time their big rival II said I felt sorry for the players I really didn't know what I was doing but basically said he's learned by watching others saying what he likes from other defenses and adapting it to what he does Dave Clausen became a great influence on him he's coached for David Clausen in a few places I think he's probably going to be a head coach this time next year he wants to be when Jay Dixon wrestle down near the first down marker by Charles Oliver as we get towards the end of the third quarter here Clemson now that's 56 plays and one of the reasons they had so much success and made so much improvement last year ames defense they averaged in the regular season only 60 snaps a game to their defense so right now this film is kind of going to guys then that way and and that's a credit to this Clemson automatic first down you take one thing away from him they got other ways to beat you and they got a veteran experienced physical offensive line that takes care of their but it was wiped out for a call of too many men on the field 12 men on the field you counted 11 we've gone as wide as we can with all the replays we have we don't see a 12th man even though Texas am known for their 12th man I don't think they had 12 on the field on that play maybe one of the great traditions in college football the 12th man this year it's a Braden white backup linebacker all right they've had long enough to look at this let's go after review there were only 11 players on the defense however the Wilson was blown prior to the snap the play will be first down a redo first down well if they knew they blew the whistle prior to the snap why did they take three minutes to watch replays because if that happened why does it matter you know you blew the whistle and that stops it so why does it matter the only thing that would matter is there you're gonna have the ball at the one-yard line of a six yard line right so replay does need to review that part of it but with the whistle blow and the crew communication especially with the radios should have helped with that scenario well if the whistle stop the play is going to hit a penalty that's going to count because the non-conference game at number one Clemson and your crossover in the SEC this year happens to be Georgia who's one of the top three or four teams in the country so it's a daunting schedule in front brain man kicks off to be a touchback effect amm and South Carolina are the first schools to see the preseason ap one two and three teams on their schedule since Missouri in 1975 and they're the only one who's done that northwestern in Minnesota in 68 and 72 respectively faced the preseason top three teams did not win over any Missouri will still be the only team of the wind in this instance to do
