CLASSROOM SETUP 2021 | Boho Rainbow Classroom | Elementary Classroom | Day 1

good morning welcome to classroom setup it's that time of the year again going into my 11th year of teaching i will be teaching third grade this year i am teaching the advanced academics program class i'm going to give you guys a short story time for some background information so if you wanted to skip that you can go ahead and fast forward a few minutes to go ahead and dive right into the classroom setup but anyway i just wanted to give you some background info i am walking in today without a plan i really don't know what i'm walking into just with the nature of this past year the last time i was physically teaching in the classroom was march of 2020 the year suddenly ended we did not get to wrap up that year with our kiddos in the classroom and then this whole past year my 10th year of teaching which was last year i taught virtually all year long secondly i'm not going back into the classroom that i was in last most recently i'm actually walking into a brand new classroom and this is nobody's fault but i have a feeling that we're all going to be walking into a mess enough inevitably because of the nature of this past year our lovely custodians are working super hard on getting the building ready they're cleaning the floors they're moving furniture but i don't know if my furniture had been moved yet there's an added complication because i did do flexible seating you guys know that i have two very large sofas and other large furniture pieces but i won't be able to do flexible seating this year because we are going to be still practicing i think three feet social social distancing with our mass on so we do need to use traditional deaths is what i just recently found out we've learned this past year that things are constantly changing things are always changing um so that's what i know so far and also i am not teaching second grade any longer i have taught second grade for the last 10 years and so going into my 11th year of teaching i will be teaching third grade this year i am teaching the advanced academics program class if you guys have been following me for a while every year i've been talking about this this time of year in second grade i always call it tax season it's always very stressful i know this past year i actually had a meltdown and started crying because it was very difficult this year conducting that process virtually but we did it we made it i survived that and long story cut short it's just a process that begins in second grade that screens for students that may be candidates for the advanced academics program that begins in third grade moving forward all the way you know into upper grades after this long grueling process goes through several levels of different committees um the students that end up do making it into this program they're pulled from all five of the second grade classes pooled together they're combined together to create a class and that class is my class in third grade so i'm so beyond thrilled because i get a good handful of my students from last year and i was just so sad and disappointed because i wanted so badly to give them everything that i could and i did but i feel like it wasn't the same experience that i could have given them in person and so the fact that i get a little do over with a little less than half of my classroom last year makes me so beyond excited and thrilled and i have been trying so hard to keep it a secret from them i can't wait until they find out but anyway without further ado let's go ahead and head on in to just kind of assess the situation and diagnose the condition of my classroom and then once i see that then i'll make a plan as to how much i'm going to get done today or if i just need to come home and then start making a plan but we'll figure it out together it's a very hot toasty day so i'm just waiting for my car to cool down don't mind the pimple patch isn't it cute guys with the holographic butterfly i got her from ulta um just i just got back from vacationing in hawaii with my husband and it's it was really really hot and we sweat a lot we were outdoors and you know we had to do a lot of like mask wearing as well so just all of that sweat and grime um let's do this let's assess the room all my furniture is here it's a large rectangle so previous years i was working with a square more of a square shape this is a rectangular shape and the cubbies are split in half before the cubbies were together just on one side of the wall but there's a little cubby section there and a small cubby section here this room is supposed to be a really large room but it's divided in half with this wall divider which i'm not gonna lie concerned about because of sound coming in from you know the other classroom but you know we'll work with what we have i have been asked not to make streak marks and drag furniture so i don't think i can move a lot today i think my main focus will just kind of be to figure out where everything is make sure that everything is in this new room and then maybe start on the front of the classroom so let's start do [Music] you [Music] i'm not gonna lie this is a hot mess it's a lot of work a little nervous but you know what it's gonna get done teachers always managed to get things done i had drawn out a map which i'll insert here of what i wanted to do with my classroom thinking that we would have flexible seating this year but we don't so that changes my plans significantly i'm really really hoping there's enough room somewhere in the building to store my flexible seating because it's a lot that i've accumulated the last three years and i really don't want to get a u-haul and store it my ap is so wonderful like he's just he's i think i mentioned it before my other classroom setup videos he's like a guardian angel like he will literally try his best to do everything to help the teachers out um especially around classroom setup time so he said that i just need to put post-it notes on the pieces of furniture that need to be removed and hopefully there'll be enough room in the boiler room to store but i'm i'm worried because like i said it's a lot um so i'm going to take a picture before i leave today send it to my ep and show him everything that needs to be removed and i'm going to let him know that whatever can't be fit into the boiler room to just leave in the classroom and i'll figure out a way either take it home and store it in the basement if husband allows or just find some other some other place hopefully this guy doesn't get any bigger because of the sweat there's a lot of stuff in the cabinets which i i wasn't i'm gonna say half and half i was expecting and wasn't expecting because i had actually gone into my old second grade classroom and cleared out all the cabinets so that the teacher that's inheriting my room wouldn't have to worry about that the tail end of this week i'm going to have to i'm going to focus on the cabinets and like organization where all the manipulatives are going to go and all that stuff it doesn't look like a lot but i promise you i moved quite a bit by myself um so yeah i put everything in the center there that needs to be removed everything back here is what i'm going to organize later by the end of this week so like my classroom library books my stem bins my math manipulatives crate seats i feel like i can store some stuff back here so that my ap and the custodians don't have to worry about putting everything into storage you know so like whatever i can keep i'll keep in here if i'm allowed but like big things like the sofa obviously i can't keep in here we're not allowed to use those but i'm thinking okay so anyway i'm like all over the place sorry guys this is the teacher area my whole group area my accent was gonna go here stuff up there my other accent walls going there so the carts that i have in my virtual classroom so my office at home that's going to go behind me i don't think i can do much here i don't know if i'm allowed to hang things there i'll have to ask my ep so i suppose the smart thing to do is to work on what i'm allowed to work on which is the bulletin boards and the accent walls so let me do that that'll be my goal for today my priority for today [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] this controls the smart board and i know every year walking into this would always stress me out because of all the wires and all the clutter so i figured out a way to conceal it this year with all the decor that i had from last year um and then this part i started collecting brown paper bags to build like a tree trunk and i have like a green curtain thingymajig that i bought off of amazon i honestly did not spend that much this year i'm literally recycling a ton of stuff that i used last year and i'm going to hang this like a canopy or the top of the tree i'm gonna use hooks bought these off of amazon [Music] if i can't go all out this year then i figured i would go all out in my teacher corner that's what it looks like so far again this is all stuff i got i had last year and the brick contact papers actually was actually for my house but then after thinking about it i decided ultimately not to use it in my house so i ended up just bringing it into the classroom it was like 80 on amazon um the curtain was very cheap as well but like i said most of the stuff actually all of this stuff here that you see is just things that i used last year i might string this i don't know if i'm allowed to hang that on the ceiling i feel like it's a fire hazard but if my ep says something then i'll just take it down or you know tape that part to the wall or something um but i was thinking of stringing the eucalyptus that i bought last year from amazon um like you know hanging on the branches the leaves here and then put some string lights and then i'm going to start on the construction paper and make the trunk and then put up my signs that i bought from lot so this is from five below last year all this stuff is from last year this those signs are from target from last year these hanging macrame stuff i got last year as well i think from amazon so i'm gonna figure out a nice way to arrange all of that here that wreath is from home i have no need for it at home anymore so i brought it into the classroom [Music] i'm actually done for the day i want to practice a healthy cut off so this is my corner so far um this is all the decor that i'm going to be using for the rest of the front of the room this is the left corner do you guys do you guys recognize those little dots those dots i have in my reading room at home i had accidentally ordered two and i was like you know what i'm just gonna keep it it was so cheap anyway and i figured i would just use it in the classroom i think it's so adorable um i love how my tree turned out i don't know how badly i want to cover that part with um craft paper to make it look like bark maybe tomorrow i ended up putting up these signs here and i might bring home my chair my green emerald chair from home because that's really comfortable and it goes really well with the color scheme here so i might bring that tomorrow but yeah that's what i was able to get done i'm really happy so tomorrow i'm going to work on this bulletin board area my calendar is going to go there the date on the learning targets i'm gonna put burlap on top and then that will be my other brick accent wall that'll mimic this but won't be as intricate and then i'm gonna be hanging my macrame on the other brick wall my battery is about to die
