hello hello hello everyone meldarontv here if you are watching this video you probably clicked on it for one of three possible reasons either you're watching this to see if meldaron has finally lost his mind or to ridicule me from making a guide like this the remainder of you are generally interested i implore the other two thirds or so of you to stick around maybe you will learn something or maybe you'll have a spot of advice on something that i may have missed anyway i hope you all enjoy as my favorite vanilla class shaman are versatile able to weave in different types of totems for unique situations call upon the raw powers of the earth to do damage to their enemies or tap into the spirits of ancestors past to provide healing magic to their allies or themselves because of their hybrid nature in vanilla shaman are relegated to healing roles at endgame especially in pve however as we all know in pvp enhancement and elemental shamans definitely have their place so for someone like me with aspirations of healing raids like molten core and anixia's lair when i hit 60 in classic i would like to practice as much as i can and really delve into the role play aspect of the restoration shaman and i know many of you will say milduran what the is wrong with you why in the name of well would you level up it's not that far to switch to resto at 60 and learn it then you check and blit well i beg to differ you flack being in tune with the idiosyncrasies of the rest of a tree like nature's swiftness mana tide and central fortitude and the general speed and effectiveness of healing spells while leveling will make you a better resto salmon in the long run and provide a unique leveling experience these are the reasons i want to level all the way up to 60 as resto i know i know i'm crazy right perhaps but i'm here to tell you that it is definitely doable i'm not here to say it's faster than enhancement or elemental but i am here to say that with these tips and tricks it will make it a whole lot easier and at the end when you ding 60 i'd argue you will have a greater sense of accomplishment than your shaman friends okay so you made it this far into the video you're either serious about leveling the rest of shaman or one of our amazing fans that watch whatever we put out either way thanks so let's first talk about talents i personally go with a 0-5-46 talent build which is deep resto in all honesty there really is no order to put these talents in the most important thing is to get those five points into restorative totems as fast as you can so you can get mana tide totem at level 40. also i would finish up the resto tree before moving over to enhancement to get that extra 5 mana this of course assumes a 1.12 talent build at the launch of classic if we go with a 1.1 talent build it may look something like this i'm sure you noticed that none of these talents will increase your dps in any way and will therefore not really help out your solo game much however these talents will ensure your dominance as a healer and five-man dungeon content and group content while leveling in the world there there it's okay practice makes perfect and hey it will make you really hard to kill [Music] so how do we do damage well i'm glad you asked the key to our damage will be a dagger yes a dagger specifically fast daggers with flame tongue weapon on them this combination will ensure consistent damage output and higher survivability because of your free hand wielding a shield in fact an enhancement spec shaman because of its great consistency the damage over time a flame tongue and a fast dagger can even rival that of two-handed wind fury since we can't wheel two handers with our build we will adopt the dagger and shield approach so that being said the most important thing to get for soloing outdoors in azeroth as a resto shaman is a nice dagger since most of your damage will come from white hits and a nice shield to increase your armor and block chance the rest of our damage comes from searing totem flame shock and lightning shield before entering combat make sure you have three stacks of lightning shield and flame tongue on your dagger then engage the enemy and cast flame shock before placing down your strength of earth totem and your searing totem strength of earth will increase the damage your dagger's white hits while searing tone will provide another damage over time effect while flame track is ticking off abuse the five second rule and regen as much man as you possibly can before refreshing flame shock again then rinse and repeat strength of earth will last a bit so effective placement will ensure more mana conservation as you won't have to replace that totem over and over again also your searing totem should last you two to three pulls in general as with any shaman it's good to guide your enemies to your totems i like to call this the mana conservative rotation however you can of course increase your damage output a lot by weaving in earth shock or frosh shock in between flame shock refreshes in addition you can also refresh lightning shield when it falls off of course these tactics will fail your enemies faster but your mana will drain away this mana expensive rotation is great if you don't mind the downtime and the cost of water hey if worse comes to worse you can always ask a mage for some agua i also recommend throwing down healing stream totem instead of actively healing yourself to conserving more mana your esto talents will make these sodums more mana efficient and heal you for more too and to conserve even more mana after you hit level 40 you'll have magnetite every 5 minutes this will drastically reduce your downtime i would definitely abuse this as far as gear is concerned strength stamina and agility are your friends in my opinion strength and stamina are the most important as they will make you hit harder and will increase your survivability respectively agility is a nice bonus for extra crit chance and even a little armor and dodge intellect is fine and dandy of course and will allow you to get more spells out but should not be taken in place of strength since the bulk of your damage comes from your dagger and flametongue weapon as a resto shaman i don't recommend pulling more than two mobs however it will inevitably happen at some point if it does happen don't panic in place of your strength of earth totem throw down stone claw and focus on one and burn it down i can usually kill one mob before my stone claw is destroyed by implementing the mana expensive rotation as i described before and if worse comes the worst uresto throw a heel on yourself oh and use the hell out of nature's swiftness it allows you to have an instant cast healing yourself therefore not slowing down your damage output with only a three minute cooldown it should be used often so how is questing as a resto shaman you ask well while leveling i do not shy away from any quests and fear that i can't do it as resto i'm actually very confident in my ability to get the job done in no way am i saying we can solo elite content like perhaps a hunter or warlock could but i never thought to myself i'm resto and i'm in over my head with this quest resto is surprisingly fun and survivable in my opinion so how survivable is leveling resto it's actually quite survivable as long as you're dealing with npcs as you can get out heals fast and efficiently if needed in a pinch however if you are rolling on a pvp server i will warn you that things can get a bit tough i rarely ever leave a pvp skirmish alive as resto and when i do it's because my pursuer gets tired of chasing me and draining my hp down over and over again after i heal myself i actually recommend avoiding pvp confrontation with this build unless you can provide a healing role to others in the world or in battlegrounds or if you can get a jump on an unsuspecting passerby however all that being said intelligent use of abilities like purge to remove buffs grounding totem to nullify an offensive spell win wall totem to reduce range damage earth bind totem to slow melee combatants and hunters and their pets frost shock to slow attackers and earth shock for those interrupts can make you a somewhat formidable combatant in open world scenarios so we've covered soloing in pvp how about group content this is where the resto shaman really shines in a group with this build your job is healing and to be a great healer you need some great gear as a resto shaman i always carry a second set of gear on me that is healing focused this can be cloth leather or mail if you're above 40. it doesn't matter as long as it has the right stats whenever you see an intellect plus healing spirit or mp5 piece drop that is an upgrade while soloing or in dungeons save it equip it and or need roll on it because these are the pieces that will make you an effective healer it can be a pain to carry all of these pieces of gear with you at all times so i suggest either getting nice bags early as a priority or keeping them in your bank i personally don't like keeping them in my bank however as time and time again i need to fulfill some kind of healing role while out in the world whether it be elite group content or to heal my comrades involved in pvp skirmishes what stats do you need to look out for well a stat priority for healing gear while leveling is not as strict as damage gear as plus healing is very rare and should technically be a priority while leveling but most importantly i would focus on intellect over spirit as the more mana you have the more heals you can put out in addition the more insult you have the higher your crit chance and the more crits you get the more armor your tank or allies have via ancestral fortitude which will in turn reduce your frequency of healing bottom line shamans heal a lot and really get to benefit from this five second rule that being said some spirit will of course be helpful but if you do come across static mp5 gear definitely grab it now let's move into healing in dungeons dungeons do not provide the fastest leveling experience but when paired with all available quests can definitely be worthwhile moreover since you are resto you may visit dungeons more often than the average player to practice healing and totem usage or to just have fun and enjoy the experience make sure to get the atlas and atlas quest add-ons to find out how many quests are linked to specific dungeons and where dungeon quests can be received and turned in as far as a rotation there really is no such thing as healing is a situational reactive type of activity and until level 40 you only have two active heel types lesser healing wave and healing wave so to add complexity make sure to determine which rank you have is the most mana efficient and to do that we use a simple equation that i learned from orc bit divide the healing done over the mana cost of course there is a range for each rank of spell but just take the average between those two numbers and put it in the numerator and then divide by the mana cost the higher your quotient the more efficient the spell is so using the most mana efficient ranks of lesser healing wave and healing wave will ensure that you don't run out of mana too fast remember that healing waves ranks 1 through 3 have different cast times than do ranks 4 through 10 so this should be taken into account when comparing spells while leveling once you get lesser healing wave at level 20 it should be paired with a standard 2.5 second healing wave rank of your choosing and used when targets are taking minimal damage as lesser healing wave will actually replace lower ranks of healing wave with its quicker cast times i tend to use lesser healing wave if i know that the target is taking slight damage and then move on to healing wave if the target needs a higher heal due to increased damage once you get chain heel level 40 you will be able to heal three targets at a time this should be used if more than two party members are taking damage and are near each other the primary target will receive the full range of heal while the subsequent targets were received less 50 percent less than a target before them to be exact chain heal is amazing and as the rest of those shamans claim the fame along with totems the most mana efficient chain heal is rank 1 and will be your go to in almost all situations you should also remove poisons and diseases whenever you can using cure disease and cure poison i highly recommended the cursive add-on to handle cleansing these debuffs quickly and effectively finally you should use nature swiftness when your tank is about to go down paired with the highest rank of healing wave you can actually cast if you can spend the mana that's why it's important to always have the highest rank of healing wave you have on your bar even if it isn't the most mana efficient spell in addition to these spells you will also have your totems always always have healing stream totem down for small yet automatic aoe healing i cannot stress enough the importance of healing stream totem use this as your water tone unless you need to drop a mana tide for some emergency mana regen also i highly recommend using stone skin tone as your earth totem as it will decrease physical damage taken by your party if you have another shaman in your group have one drop strength of earth and one drop stone skin for the earth totem and then one drop healing stream while the other drops mana spring for the water totem this will ensure both aoe healing over time and mana regen remember though if you are resto you should be the one dropping healing stream as yours will be more effective wind and fire totems can also be useful depending on the situation in a melee heavy group throw down flame tongue totem or wind fury if you have it otherwise searing is good for single target damage while magma or fire nova are good for packs of mobs finally grace of air should be used if there are hunters in your group as it will increase the agility of all party members however that being said i would only throw down totems that actually increase damage if you have the mana to spare of course as a shaman there are other situational uses for totems but i've highlighted the ones that i use regularly make sure to read your spell book and tool tips to see all the amazing things totems can do well ladies and gents that about covers the rest of shaman leveling guide do you feel confident that you can level as a resto shaman good i think that this unique leveling experience can be a ton of fun and will differentiate yourself from all the guys swinging two-handers waiting around for win for your box or the elemental shamans that are drinking after almost every poll and more importantly tanks and dpsers will really appreciate your lead heals that you're throwing out in dungeons and other group content and finally it will be good practice for high-end dungeons and raids thanks so much for watching this video and please comment below on other tips that i may have missed or on points that you found interesting also please leave a like if you'd like this guide and for all your alliance people out there i'll try to talk death camp into making a similar video
