-Thanks.
-You look great! -Thanks.
-You were -- You look -- Last time I saw you, you
were a -- you were a blonde. -I was blond, yeah.
-You had blond hair. -Oh, yeah, look. There I am.
-This -- This was you. Yeah. Now -- Oh, I love it.
Is this -- -It's all gone.
-Yeah. -Yeah.
Did you like being blond? -I loved being blond.
-You did? Yeah. -Yeah, I've -- It's -- the whole "blondes have
more fun" thing is actually -- an actual --
I mean, I didn't have fun. But people are just nice --
they're just nicer to you. [ Laughter ] -People are nice to you
because you're blonde? They are? -Yeah.
-Really? -See, you won't have experienced
this, 'cause you're like me. But all -- you're all --
[ Laughter ] I swear, it's an actual thing.
-Really? -People hold the door open
to you. They smile at you,
just in general. -Yeah, and this doesn't happen
to you now at all. -No.
-No, not at -- -[ Chuckling ] No. -People are actually mean
to you, yeah. -They're act--
They're actively horrible to me. -Is this for a --
Is this for a new role? What are you...
-Well, yeah. And I had to let go
of the blond, 'cause it's
quite a lot of upkeep. -It is, yeah.
-So it had to go at some point. But, yeah, I've chopped it all
off for a -- for a job, yeah. -Can you say what you're doing
or no? -Yeah. I'm playing Janet Armstrong,
who is Neil Armstrong's wife. -Wow. Ooh, in the -- the...
-Yeah. "Ohh." -...the Ryan Gosling...
[ Laughter ] Yeah, I've heard of this movie.
Is this the Damien Chazelle -- -I know I'm not an American.
I'm sorry. -What's that?
-I'm not an American. I feel like a bit of a fraud
'cause she's very American. -No, that's the whole point
of acting. -It's like
the most American story ever. -Yeah, we know
you're not really her. Yeah, you --
-I know. -Unless you were married
to Neil Armstrong -- I have no idea -- but I --
let's get into that later. -I just apologize in advance.
-No, never apologize. -I apologize in advance.
-Are you kidding me? We love you.
Are you -- Are you -- Since being British, are you
very excited about Christmas? -Oh, yes, I love it.
-'Cause you -- You -- You do? You have lots of puddings
and stuff, yeah? [ Light laughter ]
-Yeah. -Don't -- Yes, you do, right?
-Puddings are a big part of it, chocolate, puddings.
-You have a real -- -Turkey, potatoes.
-I mean, in America, Christmas is big, but in -- in England,
it's a giant -- it's like kind of Thanksgiving
dinner kind of, right, here? -Well, yeah, but Thanksgiving, you put marshmallows on stuff
and things, don't you? Like, on savory --
I don't -- I do -- -I mean, not me, personally, but, yes,
our country's been known to put marshmallows
on a lot of things, yeah. [ Laughter ]
It's just the way we work. -But what is that?
Doesn't marshmallows go on some sort of sweet, like
sweet potato thing or something? -Yeah, sweet potatoes, and then
you put mini-marshmallows -- not marshmallows -- on top...
[ Laughter ] ...and then they melt, and they get a little --
a kind of a crusting. It's a little --
like a fun adventure. -It's an interesting --
interesting tradition. We don't do anything like that.
-You don't? -It's all quite meat --
meat, gravy-based. -Oh, really?
-Yeah. -And you're gonna go back
to England for that? -I am, yeah. Yeah.
-You are, yeah. Well, how long do you get
to hang out in New York for? -I go --
Well -- Well, I'm hanging out. I'm going to see
Bruce Springsteen tomorrow night. And you were so good! -No, oh, my gosh, stop.
[ Cheers and applause ] -It's just --
I don't need -- I need -- don't need to go
and see him now. That's it.
-Oh, my God. Please. -I mean, he's been here.
Yeah. What -- you're going see him?
-Yeah. -I haven't seen the show yet.
Yeah, I'm excited about that. -Ohhh!
-Yeah, really, yeah. Oh, wow. All right, good.
-I'm so excited. I'm so excited. -When are you going to see it --
tomorrow? -Tomorrow night, yeah.
-Oh, fun. Maybe I'll crash, and I'll,
like, ruin your whole night. -That'd be great.
-I'll be like, "Hi, Claire! You enjoying the show?!"
[ Laughter ] And you're like,
"Leave me alone! This is my one night away." -I'm -- My --
My mum has brought -- My mum's here with me,
and she brought her "The River Tour"
that she went to see from like 1984.
-Yeah! -She's brought that jumper,
and I'm gonna wear it. [ Laughs ] I'm so sad!
-Oh, come on. See, it's -- that's the best.
-I'm so sad! -No, you're not, no.
-I'm really excited. -What the world needs
is more fans of people. It's good to be a fan
of Bruce Springsteen. -Yeah.
-That's awesome. I love that guy.
-Yeah. -I'm a fan of yours.
That's a good segue right there. -Hey!
-Let's talk about "The Crown." Man, oh, man,
I think I first met you at that party
before the Golden Globes... -Mm-hmm.
-...and I was like -- And, oh, I just knew it. I go, "Man, you're gonna win
the Golden Globe for this year." -I bet you said that
to every single person you met that night.
[ Laughter ] "I know you're going to win."
-But not everyone won. You won,
so, I mean, that's just -- I do say that, but you --
-Got a good hit rate. -But this one actually works
with you, yeah, since you end up
winning the award. Man, oh, man, but what a --
a great production. When you watch it,
it's not like -- they definitely didn't waste
any money. I mean, it is --
-No. -There's elephants. There's things --
-Yeah. -I mean, it is honestly
a big-deal production. And then, this is Season 2
of "The Crown." -Mm-hmm.
-And you play the Queen, but this is --
this is your last season. You're out after this.
-That's it, yeah. Yeah.
-Because -- -And -- But they spent all
the money on the first series, so we're just in a shed.
[ Laughter ] -That's not --
That's not true -- you're in a shed.
-That's not true. But, I mean --
But it was always -- that was always the deal,
though, right? You only were gonna do
two seasons and then... -Yeah. Yeah.
-Yeah. -...it's gonna be played
by a different actress. -Yes, Olivia Colman.
She's great. -Yeah, but we're gonna miss you.
You're so great. -You won't.
You'll forget all about me and -- and the rest of the cast.
[ Laughter ] -Claire, that is
so not true at all. -Like, "Who are they?"
-I'm not gonna forget about you. -We're the warm-up act.
-[ Chuckling ] What is -- What's gonna happen this Friday
when I binge-watch Netflix? -Oh, I don't know.
-Yeah, Season 2. -You won't get much sleep?
I don't know. -[ Chuckling ] No.
-I'm not quite sure what you... -Not what's
gonna happen to me -- what's gonna happen
in the season? Yeah, I'll fall asleep,
eventually. Yeah. Yeah.
I work very hard. [ Laughter ]
But... -[ Laughs ]
-Who knows what could happen? I don't know, now.
-I don't know. I don't know. -You know, it's Friday night.
I don't know, you know? -Whoo-hoo! -Yeah, I'll fall asleep.
-Yeah. But Season 2 -- what -- what's happening here now
with the -- with the Queen? -Well, pretty much
the same sort of stuff, but a different period of time. Yeah, no, it -- it starts where
we left off in the first series. -Yeah.
-So no time passes, really. But it is very much about --
it's going into the '60s, and we get a visit from JFK
and Jackie O. -Wow.
-And, yeah, so, it's -- it's seeing a kind of an
institution going into the '60s and not really knowing how to
keep up with it, to be honest.
