a little bit of a situation going on here this morning um it's december solidly december we have pumpkins almost that tea we have a christmas swag and we have a turkey and pumpkins up here this kitchen doesn't know what holiday it wants to be so i think today we need to fix that [Music] the cushions take about three yards of 60 inch wide fabric and the pillows that i'm going to do are 18 inches wide so they're a little over a half a yard i'm hoping i can find fabric if not maybe christmas tablecloths or something that's a lot of fabric inexpensively that i can cut up and add here hi sweetie what are you doing i'm not necessarily going for a specific budget um other than not ridiculously expensive i would ideally like to get something that can be used for other holidays so like if i could make cushion covers that could be used in either the fall or for like fourth of july or something that would be great so we're gonna see what we can find i don't know if this happens to you but we're kind of out here um and it's like 35 minutes to a big fabric store and i don't really feel like driving that far so i found like a local store that doesn't have a ton of fabric um but has some did a first sweep through and i was like i don't really like any of this but then as the realization hit that if i didn't like anything there i would have to drive 35 minutes then everything started to look a little bit nicer as usual i don't know how this is going to turn out basically i found one fabric that's not christmas but has christmas colors in it and then i got a bunch of other fabrics that have some of the colors that are in that main fabric and we're just going to put them all together and see if i can make something work [Music] i love when past me is smart and then future me has less of a problem these cushions um they're not the same they're mirrors of each other and i made a pattern for them and the thing about cushions and pillows in general is that you want the final cover to be smaller than the actual cushion i traced the cushion directly and then that was my pattern piece i didn't add any seam allowance or anything so that it will be a little bit smaller and then when i make it it should be able to pull tight i made this pattern and stuck all the pattern pieces for it underneath the cushion so now i don't have to go find it so there's my pattern pieces [Music] these are the top panels that are solid so i'm gonna go and put that all the way around long strips are about four and a half inches wide um because that's the depth of my cushion plus a little bit extra but i'm gonna start here and leave this loose and then i'll come all the way around and then when i see how long it needs to be i'll finish it and then finish attaching it these are going much much quicker than these these ones had zippers and piping and i just don't frankly have any interest in that [Music] do [Music] that's a reasonable start it looks orange here i promise it's red it's red and white striped ticking this was just sort of the base and then after this is where we went completely off the rail so let me show you the assortment of fabric that i acquired to make pillows for this thing i really really don't have any excuse for this okay we've talked about this before that when i look for decor i look for color combinations not necessarily seasonally specific things as i mentioned i didn't want to drive 35 minutes away to go find christmas specific fabric so i was poking around and seeing what i could find and i found something that had red and green in it and it happens to be this i can't i actually left the store because i thought paige you simply can't have chickens for christmas and then i was in my car thinking to myself but paige now that you know it exists will you truly be happy with anything other than chickens for christmas so this was my starting point this was like the fabric that we were going to start with reds greens beiges this i'm gonna make two pillows out of this then i decided to just start adding stuff to it i found a yard of this which i think it's called monk cloth it's a really nice texture like a really really nice texture so i thought that would be good neutral pillows then i found some shiny green fabric to go with the chickens and then i found like crushed velvet fabric to go with the chickens and i got two other kinds of green fabric i don't know i'm essentially just gonna start making pillows and um putting them on my settee and they're all gonna be red and green and we're gonna call it christmas okay [Music] it's not working out exactly how i thought in my head i'm going to make some of the pillow covers because they're very quick and then sleep on it because i didn't like the haul either for a day until i came back to it the next day and i kept messing with it i got to figure out what's going on here i've been at this for two hours and i don't have anything that i like see i could go out and get more but but i already spent like 50 bucks on all this stuff and i don't want to just waste it it's fine it's fine paige figure it out i'm not mad about this right here i think i'm gonna go ahead and start making the pillows i'm gonna make at least the two white ones and then this one at a ticking and then at least that red one and we'll see where it ends up what i'm making for these are uh envelope pillowcases pretty much the easiest way that you can make pillowcases this is actually the exact same thing i did for the cushions uh just slightly more complicated this piece was originally roughly the width of my pillow uh maybe a little bit longer so i have 18 inch pillows this is about 19 inches and then about two and a half times as long again you can kind of fudge it a little bit but this is somewhere around 45 or 50 inches long then i went in and put a just a half inch hem on both ends this is the right side of the fabric the wrong side of the fabric so hem it to the wrong side with the wrong side down the right side up we are going to fold it fold one part up almost the whole way you can really do it kind of however far you want and then bring the top down and adjust these until it is the width of your pillow so i'm going for a little under 18 inches it's a little bit too much right now so we're just going to keep pulling that down until it's the right length then you pin both sides run a seam down each side turn it inside out and it looks like that when you're done no zippers no hand sewing and you have [Music] pillowcases [Applause] do [Music] it is the next day and we figured something out the chickens made the cut i was extremely worried that i was gonna end up not liking the chickens but we played with it and we messed with it pretty much all of the green fabric didn't make it but maybe that will happen next year and this is what we've ended up with over here these two pillows the ticking pillow and the chicken pillow here are the same size this one's a little bit smaller these red ribbons are just tied around here and i cut the ends on an angle and burned them a little bit with a lighter just so they don't unravel i can take this off at the end of the season so then these will be just nice neutral pillows to use for something else on this side my biggest pillow i covered with the red velvet then i have another neutral pillow and then this is just a tiny little chicken pillow that i made and i actually unstuffed one of the pumpkins in order to you're cute i actually unstuffed one of the pumpkins in order to fill that pillow so we have two chicken pillows um a velvet and a ticking and then two of these neutral pillows and then this weaving is probably the most exciting thing some like maybe inch and a half inch and a quarter grosgrain ribbon it's polyester uh and i just wove it in between the wicker as best i could all the way around and i really like it because that to me adds a little bit more of the bright red which is what i was missing when i was doing everything you know not with that now with the seti finally underway and how i like it i'm gonna go get a bunch of greenery because this is obviously very red and white and i want to bring in a bunch of natural greenery to kind of add that extra color in so we're going to put stuff on the doors stuff on the windows stuff on the cabinets i have a really cute idea about the sink legs and we're just going to keep adding little bits until the kitchen is appropriately festive [Music] well [Music] so [Music] [Music] my [Music] do [Music] [Music] so [Music] oh [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] that is our christmas kitchen this year and i i love it i really do it none of it really is that much most of it's greenery and ribbons and some leftover fabric from the settee did you see my reindeer that reindeer is from when i was a kid and actually he has batteries and you put batteries in him you squeeze his paw and then he sings you carols more or less everything is just ribbon and greenery and that is my kind of decorating because it's not that much but it has a very big impact so thank you so much for watching i hope you have a wonderful day merry christmas and i will see you next time bye [Music] you
