you were watching Christ's Commission fellowship changing lives for eternity Merry Christmas in advance as we're about to close our series on the book of Colossians 4 chapters divided into two parts the primary message of Colossians everybody read the supremacy of Christ if you miss out get the video first two chapters right believe in the last three for the last two chapters right living and today we'll talk about Christ centered purpose now why is purpose important there are three kinds of people in this room today first you don't know your purpose second you have a purpose it's the wrong purpose third you have the right purpose wise purpose important before I tell you why it is important can you read the title of today's message everybody live with the right purpose not just purpose right purpose how many of you know Ernest Hemingway he's a Nobel Prize winner for literature Ernest Hemingway is known as a macho man he would travel all over the world his famous popular is a big-game hunter he's a bullfighter he cannot bring anybody your bit drunk and he's not a drunk his moral values are without the strength for wines but what people don't know was his grandfather his grandfather was a minister like a pastor his father was very religious something happened to Ernest Hemingway in spite of his popularity power fortune Fame one morning he got his shotgun put it on his head and killed himself he blew his head many years later his granddaughter on the day of his death anniversary famous margaux hemingway one of the most beautiful lady she earned the most money before she even reached the age of 21 she was a model on the day of the death anniversary of his grandfather she committed suicide all snow suicide is rampant today you may ask me why let me tell you why the greatest tragedy is really not death but it's living life without a purpose but I will add to that statement now the greatest tragedy in life is not death but living life with the wrong purpose so I wanted the thing the Bible tells us the importance of the right purpose can I tell you widely so important everybody said it with me he who has a why to live for you know why you're here can bear almost any how if you know why you exist and problems come you can survive not just survive you will tried God has called us not to live but to try to live an amazing life and that does not mean you have no problems so how do you find the purpose of your life today many people say just meditate look within you will never find that purpose I gave a test this morning as to the purpose of what I'm holding do you know the purpose of this gadget how many of you know raise your hand tell me what's the purpose you would only know the purpose if you consult the maker this is an amazing device it's a clicker when I click here it will control the PowerPoint you will know the purpose if you consult the inventor the maker the one who made this one you will never know your purpose in life if you don't consult your maker why did he make us if you don't believe in God forget purpose why without God life is an accident if life is an accident there's no purpose you create your own purpose you make your own meaning but if you believe in God that he made you you are not an accident God made you for a purpose you got to ask him what's my purpose the basic verse in the book of Colossians is chapter 1 verse 16 that's foundational everybody that's paid for by him all things were created both in the heavens and on earth visible invisible whether Thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities we all know who a maker Jesus created all things but what we don't know is the last part everybody read all things have been created through him and for him we were made by Jesus for Jesus until you understand this the purpose of your life will not be made clear and you will go through life not knowing really why you exist and that my friend can lead to depression a meaningless life will eventually lead to depression what's the purpose of life and you will never know it until you go to Jesus the Apostle Paul understood the purpose of life you know why belief right belief will lead to right behavior look at his belief system let's read this together therefore we have as our ambition whether at home or absent to be pleasing to him this verse is what my wife and I embrace for the purpose of our life we are here to please the Lord therefore means you go to the previous verses if you go to the previous verses Paul talks about what you see is temporal what you don't see is eternal all talks about this earthly body will soon pass away and you have eternal body he is talking about eternal stuff therefore he said knowing the truth therefore everybody with everybody peace with we have as our ambition in other words what drives you what motivates you what's your purpose what's your ambition for him it is crystal clear our ambition whether at home or absent meaning alive or death my ambition is very simple read everybody to be pleasing to him so what's your purpose in life please yourself please people or the blessing I submit to you you need to think this through until that is made clear the purpose of your life all your decision-making process will be problematic because of this truth the way I make decisions is very simple she's my priority is to please him how I make decisions is simple my parodies are clear how are yous my time is clear how I make choices is clear it's not complicated because I don't live to please people I live to please the Lord some people are driven by money that's your goal in life you want to make money then you make decisions based on the pursuit of money for some people especially young people today they call it that our generation you don't think about the future you won't experience your purpose in life is experience so you want to try everything if your picture of life is one great big party so place your is everything you try everything that's your purpose in life I won't try everything however if you believe in the Lord assuming you do that's it make sense to please him what is the next verse after verse 9 tell me what's the next verse smart verse 10 what is verse 10 this verse 10 we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ not if we must all appear all judgment seat of Christ so that everybody read so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body according to what he has done whether good or bad Paul is saying I am accountable to God and because I'm accountable to God my ambition is to please him friends are you pursuing the purpose of your life which God has called you to live for do you understand do you know God's purpose for your life answer you better find out who is purpose important have you heard a joke I think it's partly true and partly not true but it's an amazing story this guy loved his mother so much he gave the mother a very nice present for her birthday a half-million-dollar bird why because this bird can speak three languages Chinese English Japanese and this bird can sing very expensive bird the other brother gave the mother a Mercedes Benz for her birthday the other one a free trip around the world but this son the others gave the mother the most expensive bird so the next morning he called the mother mom how did you like my present how did you like the bird the mother said it sure tastes good are you sad for the bird you know the purpose of the bird is not to be eaten it's an intelligent bird to carry on conversation anyway my point is this you better know your purpose so how do you live a life pleasing to the Lord number one anybody read devote yourselves to prayer keeping alert in it with an attitude of Thanksgiving notice the grandma here devote yourselves to prayer it's a command keep devoting the word devotees you focus your energy you focus your attention in prayer why because you were created by God for God you were created by Jesus for Jesus therefore prayer brings intimacy you were created by God and for God prayer brings intimacy you want to please God today you want what not you do devote yourselves to prayer nothing she added something magic spare keeping alert with an attitude of Thanksgiving why because prayer is expressing your faith in God and you need to thank him before the prayers are answered devote ourselves to prayer with an attitude of Thanksgiving why Thanksgiving the Bible tells you be anxious for nothing what must you do everybody what must you do in everything by prayer supplication synonyms of prayer another kind of prayer but with Thanksgiving you must include Thanksgiving most of us are not able to experience the power of prayer let me tell you why because when you pray you don't pray in faith to pray in faith means you include the giving and when you include Thanksgiving he gives you a promise what's the promise and the peace of God which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus notice the peace of God it's from God something you don't understand which surpasses all comprehension you don't understand but you had peace years ago in northern Philippines you had tribal people who are called headhunters they kill people they get their help and you won't believe this they may even eat you our missionary friend the Dominguez family told us the story how when they were in that tribe they felt so uneasy they knelt down the entire family and just prayed the whole night they prayed they sense something was wrong but they did not know what was wrong they just prayed months later the chief gave his life to Jesus and when the children give his life to Jesus the entire tribe will follow and then the chief asked the Dominguez family I want to ask you a question you may not know this a few months ago we surrounded your house we were going to kill you but we notice you have security guards dressed in white with torches going around your house who are these people and the Dominguez family said we don't have guards guess who are those people guarding the house the angels of the Lord you believe God sent His angels to protect us is God amazing my friend don't ever underestimate the power of prayer my wife used to remind me prayer on your knees gets you through Geographic barriers it gets you through boardrooms it gets you through houses example you have a problem with your husband you get a problem with your wife you get on your knees you pray you got a problem with people the board whatever it is you pray I saw this with my own eyes years ago we used to pray for the opening of the gospel in China we used to pray for the opening of the gospel in Russia we used to pray for the opening of doors in Eastern Europe what did God do because of Prayer not revolution not a single bullet was fired when Berlin remember the Berlin Wall I went there for sentimental reasons I saw the demarcation of that wall that wall went down without revolution it is only through the prayer of God's people amazing Russia you can preach the gospel in Russia today why the prayer of God's people in China the bamboo curtain is open churches are booming in China why not because of revolution my friend I know many things bother us in our country honestly when I read the newspaper when I was a TV and I see what's happening I am bothered but you know what I'm reminded of brain so when I pray I peace and relax people will come to me pastor pastor I could tell you something at least probably and my husband my wife all kinds of problem and I get nervous and I remind myself okay let's pray you should devote yourselves to prayer you want to please God what's the right purpose in life to please him right what does he want us to do everybody to pray so make it your life ambition to please God by devoting ourselves to prayer I want to invite all of us to become men and women of Prayer your prayer life will tell me a lot about your spiritual life because by praying you are telling that Lord I am dependent upon you what if your prayers are not answered we'll keep on praying it should possible your prayers are not answered you know where people are stop praying they tell me useless what can I tell you something devote yourselves to prayer mins events your prayers are not answered you pray and you give thanks in advance why because you are telling God Lord you are not a Santa Claus prayer is not telling God what to do prayer is aligning your will to God's will let me give you an example the Apostle Paul the Bible tells us in second Corinthians chapter 12 God gave Paul an amazing encounter he was brought to paradise to heaven and the Bible said Paul saw things that he was not even allowed to write down it was so beautiful so amazing that God said no don't write it down yet however God taught Paul to keep you from becoming problem to keep you from writing a book about my vision and visit in heaven that's just my interpretation way to keep you from becoming proud I will give you a thorn in the flesh so Paul had a thorn in the flesh what is that thorn in the flesh I guarantee you look at me now it's not your wife it's not your family members okay the truth is sometimes you have torn in the flesh yes or no for the Apostle Paul it was some kind of a sickness if you ask me and he asked God to heal him and God did not heal him he prayed three times what will you do if you're poor do you want to know what he did devote yourselves to prayer by the way tell your neighbor devote yourselves to prayer live a life pleasing to God okay now remember what's the topic today live with the right purpose one of which is intimacy with God which is you know what Paul said Paul this what Paul said concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might live me he asked three times nothing wrong with telling of what you want but if God says no and through prayer you will find out you keep praying open your heart to the Lord tell him your problem be honest with him and then God told Paul everybody read now my grace is sufficient for you for power is perfected in weakness most gladly notice his attitude change most gladly I will rather boast about my weaknesses my thorn in the flesh so that the power of Christ might dwell in me let me explain now for the Apostle Paul God told him you are praying for something I want to tell you something my answer is no why because I want you to experience my grace my grace is sufficient for you God is telling you today whatever he allows you to happen good or not good in your eyesight God is saying trust me my grace is sufficient for you but more than that I want you to experience intimacy I wanted to experience this truth what is this truth everybody read power is perfected in business what does that mean perfected in weakness have you heard this thing you will never know that God is sufficient until all you have is God you will never know that Jesus is sufficient until all you have is Jesus many times we were rather substitute for Jesus we run to friends we run to all kinds of people for help but there are times God will allow you to be all alone where you feel you have no more place to go except the Lord and then and only then can you experience the amazing grace of God because the grace of God comes when we become humble and we become helpless I love disco patient prayer and helplessness are inseparable you cannot separate the two your helplessness is your best player oftentimes I go before God and I said Lord I cannot handle this Lord this is beyond me so our pastors including us many times God allows problems why because by having problems I am driven to my knees now imagine this is God it is God in this you do not allow problems who come in between you allow problems to push you to the Lord this is God this is us we are problems right do not allow problems who can be in between you and God you allow the problems to push you as close as possible to the Lord and I am when I am with the Lord he takes care of my problem so prayer is a reminder of God's purpose for my life to love him to serve him because God wants intimacy when you come to me for counseling when you come to any of our pastors we tell our pastors and I'm telling all of you now we do not try to change people I'm not God only God can change you some of you have been here for many months you just keep on sitting in the same place in fact I can memorize already where you guys sit and every time I say you want to receive press you raise your hands and some of you will never raise your hand no matter what they do it doesn't matter it's between you and the Lord my prayer is God will grab ahold of your life so that you give your life to Him and you experience the reality of his presence and this presence his own experience when you surrender notice what the Bible says your power is made perfect in my witness so let me ask you how's your prayer life what's the topic today live for the right purpose and how do you live for the right purpose you want to please God yes or no now how do you please God pray the void ourselves a prayer but prayer is much bigger than you can imagine Paul said praying at the same time for us as well that God will open to us a door for the word so that we may speak for the mystery of Christ for which I have also been in prison that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak let me explain to you Paul is never too proud to ask for prayer to them asking you to also pray for us pray for me police say praying at the same time for us you know proud people don't ask for prayer I've talked to people can I pray for you I thank you I don't need prayer amazing if you ask me do I need prayer can I request for all of you to pray for me really I want you to pray for me my children this Christmas ask me Dad what can we give you for Christmas because they know what can they give me my grandchildren what can they give me in fact they'll ask me for money to buy me things no job only Johnny but you know what I always tell them now my answer has changed pray for me my request from all of you pray for me I need prayer the older I get the more I realize we need prayer Paul is asking for prayer Paul said praying at the same time for us as well that God will open up to us a door for the word so that we may speak for the mystery of Christ notice he did not pray that God will get me out of prison he was in prison but he didn't play that I get out of jail in fact he prayed for something different he said pray that there will be that God will open to us a door for the world connect early Paul when he was in prison evangelize the presidential security command the Praetorian Guard praetorian guard our guards assigned to protect the Emperor that's what they are called pray Torian there are special guards in fact history tells us the Praetorian guards eventually control who'll be the next Emperor they became the kingmaker in Rome their powerful group of elite soldiers Paul evangelize the Praetorian guards can I tell you boy in the time of Paul you will put a chain right hand one guard left hand one guard they're always so good there's no he can escape so Paul was a prisoner but he was not really a prisoner you know who are the prisoners the gardener's you know why oh you are tied to me now I'll ask you party Pat I'm on Sanka pupunta in English if you were to die fighting where will you go will you go to heaven or no you see the guards have no choice they are tied to him so he kept talking about Jesus and every so many hours they change the guard a new set of guards if you were to die where will you go Paul made use of every opportunity but I believe what he was praying for open a state door because Paul sent from the jail example in Jerusalem in Caesarea Philippi he was sent to Rome he wanted to go to Rome to be imprisoned there so he can appear before Caesar and when he appeared before the Emperor I can guarantee you he has one message just like what he did to her on what he did to King Agrippa all of this King he said the reason why I am in jail is because of the resurrection of Jesus and then there's asked what do you mean he talked about Jesus the mystery of Christ the we may speak for the mystery of Christ in the Bible the word mystery does not mean from mysterious not it simply means something not known in the past but it's now revealed Christ was not known in the Old Testament it was just a foreshadow but now it is made clear for example in the Old Testament they talked about the Passover put the blood of the Passover over animal sacrifices for your sin all of those animal sacrifices is a picture of what Jesus will do so he's saying let me explain clearly the mystery of price so mystery of price means what in the Old Testament not clear in the New Testament it's now clear so he continued for which I have been in prison he was in prison for Christ so that I may make it clearer notice his goal in life was not to impress people but to make it clear about Jesus so my friend let me ask you a question if your goal and my goal is to live a life pleasing to God what is God's mission for you and for me do you know why we exist why are we here every Sunday listen our mission go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I commanded you I am with you always even at the end of the age the main verb is make disciples so friend the Apostle Paul knew I gotta make disciples you don't make disciples if you don't even july's if you join a Bible study that's my mission in fact she she have a simple term what's our mission under God and make Christ committed followers CCF Price committed followers who will make Christ committed followers that's why we exist understand to fulfill God's mission for us not just to love him but to make disciples that's our mission for the Apostle Paul he took it seriously for Paul he said I am under obligation both to Greeks and barbarians to the wise to the foolish so for my part I'm eager to preach the gospel so for the Apostle Paul his mission is so clear very buddy read this no man can do me a tuber kindness in this world and the payphone so that's not a request Paul requested pray for him so he can share the gospel I want him to pray for me for my family that we will be faithful to the Lord okay what's the message today live for the right purpose now yes how you should learn to live for the right purpose you must conduct yourselves with wisdom toward Outsiders making the most of the opportunity come and conduct yourselves with wisdom in other words your life your conduct must affect Jesus do not live your life in such a way that people are turn away from Jesus conduct your life with wisdom let me give you example many years ago with a member who called my wife my life is in danger my husband wants to hurt me my husband discovered I am attending Bible study I am now in my bathroom I locked up my bathroom to protect myself from my husband my wife said okay don't do anything now just pray so she stood in the bathroom we prayed for her of course the next morning everything was fine the husband his temper kind of went down two years later we were in a dinner and I saw the girl and the husband we were in a wedding dinner where we were both on enums so somebody asked him i heard you are now going to Bible study my ear perk up he said how can I not go to Bible study I look at my wife she was transformed and if God transformed her why would I not attend Bible study he's got amazing in other words people come to Christ not by your argument it's by your life many times it's by your life so conduct our zone the Bible says conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders the Bible talks about inside their head outsiders we are insiders who are outsiders outsiders do not really know Jesus they don't know the truth unlike you and like me you are insiders you have inside information what's going to happen to this world you have inside information what's going to happen on Judgment Day you are insiders many of our friends were very sincere there are nice people but they're outsiders they never heard the gospel your job and my job is to live our lives in such a way with wisdom so they'll be attracted the Bible says making the most of the opportunity you got to make the most of the opportunity one time in fact this was last trip on my way back to the Philippines the person beside me was a businessman I asked for wisdom I said Lord how can I witness to this guy beside me he went to sleep I was so happy I wanted to sleep also hallelujah I don't have the witness he's left I slept but the problem is this I got up early I read the Bible and the Lord impress upon my heart have you asked me to open the door have you asked me that you will have a chance seize the opportunity look at this verse it says making the most of the opportunity ladies do you know the most opportunity another word is discount shopping sale when you see say one-day sale my goodness will you take the opportunity so ladies you understand that's the grammar making the most of your time grab seize the opportunity we didn't know what happened the passenger beside me I learned I asked for wisdom you know why I asked for wisdom because the next verse tells us let your speech always be with grace as though seasoned with salt so that you may know how you should respond to each person I know this guy was a business man my approach has to be slightly different my approach cannot be para if you were to die where will you go it is not conducive to that environment you agree because sometimes Christian you got to be careful with your mouth some Christian don't don't think they talk to strangers about it are you born again that's not the way some people say are you covered by the blood about the blood worst of all are you saying she people Outsiders kid you cannot speak to them like this I'm teaching you now be careful in fact in a evangelistic Bible study I don't like all Christians to join our group they asked the most stupid question what about this thing what about that saying my goodness these are first-timers what will you talk about the thing let's talk about Jesus people love Jesus amen but you talk about this religion that religion you turn them off so I pray for wisdom I learned have you heard of the one minute testimony our teacher five things you need to know first you ask the question permission sir can I ask you a question second you ask the question what is the best thing that ever happened to you he talked about his children I was curious how come you did not talk about your wife I listened in a special or how's your children how's your family by the way how's your wife you know you ask questions and then the third thing can I ask permission from you do you want to hear the best thing that ever happened to me you see I'm not jamming down now here's the one-minute testimony the moment he said yes I want to hear what's the best thing happen to you are you ready okay you time me the best thing that ever happened to me once upon a time you won't believe this I was afraid to die I had no peace my life was empty I was always looking for meaning then one day I heard somebody telling me that Jesus Christ died on the cross and paid for my sins and he rose again from the dead to prove that is the Son of God and that day I surrendered my life to Jesus and when I gave my life to Jesus I discovered he gave me peace he gave me purpose he gave me an assurance I'm no longer afraid to die and as I look back I'm just thinking if I don't know Jesus I will probably be still fearful no purpose and I'll be living an empty life thank you for listening how many minute see sure Emma Greg and then a lot his eyes by the way would you like to know more about Jesus he said yes I'd like to know more see I knew there was emptiness he told me his loves empty he travels every month Philippines States Asia big-time businessman but empty so I gave him our gospel truck I was about to share and then the captain disturb us we are now on being fasten your seat belt I said I said anyway I'm gonna give this to you he asked for it can I have that copy my whole point is this you grab the opportunity but seize on your speed with what grace and so it's very important you know why salt is so important in the days of Jesus they understood so people will go to war for salt because salt is preservative salt is antiseptic but above all sort the only preserved food but salt is used to make the food taste better so this is what you must do the Bible says we are the salt of the earth so my prayer is all CC efforts our conduct must be such with wisdom when people look at us you're saying what and what know your Jesus but you cannot just have a good condom not open your mouth season with salt you see there are moments where your friends will need you but you need to understand the purpose of your life the purpose of your life is not to be live for yourself it's to please him and how do you please God be prayerful be sensitive to the needs of others to please God you want to share the gospel you want to disciple people because that's what we are called to do some of you love the Lord but you are not yet really pursuing God's purpose for your life my prayer is you'll / you will pursue God's purpose for your life the right purpose to please him by praying by sharing the gospel by making disciples let me close with the story of this man his name is Coleman McClure Coleman McClure was an amazing Harvard graduate he turned a company a bigger of Gillette he turned that company around increase its value 50 times he became a hero for a lot of business executive the week before forms with publish his face and story he was given an advance cover copy of the Forbes magazine he was so excited he got that copy brought this to his office and everybody in his office staff was giving him a clapping rousing congratulations but that same day as he went back to his office he had a massive heart attack he died touching the cover magazine he did not even live to enjoy the acclaim that he wanted friends do you have the right purpose many times your purpose would be the world it at times on earth but for God's people the reward is not always now it is delayed when you live for God's purpose let me repeat the reward is not always now but keep living for that purpose a missionary couple was returning from Africa when they landed in New York Harbor he was shocked to see parade welcome banner music in his mind perhaps they were welcoming him no it was a mistake they were welcoming the u.s. President Roosevelt from Africa he just came from a hunting trip and when all the parade all the music was over he turned to his wife as they left the boat he said it's so ironic we give our lives to Jesus and nobody's there to welcome us nobody was there to even give us a banner and here is this president he went there to go hunting and they gave him an amazing work and then a voice from heaven spoke to him my son you are not yet home my son you are not yet home my friend I wanted to live for the right purpose by leaving the right purpose I guarantee you you will not live a life of regret I owe it to all of you to teach you and to inspire you to live your life with the right purpose with the wrong purpose it's tragic let's bow our heads and pray if God has spoken to you that you are not living with the right purpose some of us have no purpose at all perhaps that's your purpose no purpose I want you to come to Jesus today and say Lord Jesus I want to live my life with the right purpose which is to please you if that's your desire for Jesus to help you live the right purpose so that you will know why you exist you once you make it clearly to please him the rest will follow he will guide you but first have that commitment you live for the right purpose which is to please God if that's your desire will raise your hands praise God I only pray for you higher that's your desire in life today you want to live with the right purpose which is to please God anybody else higher why because this prayer that you are about to make with me will change your life forever be honest with this prayer with your hands raise up you pray something like this Lord Jesus I want to live with the right purpose not for myself not for my family not for money not for popularity but for you Jesus help me to live a life that is pleasing to you help me live out that purpose in practical terms help me to be devoted to prayer I know that will please you happy to be devoted in sharing the gospel in bringing people to your kingdom because that is why you came and that is why you save us that is why you touch our lives to make a difference in the lives of others for eternity so lord I pray for everybody here especially CC efforts our purpose in life is to live a life that's pleasing to you devoted to prayer to conduct ourselves properly so we will impact others for eternity in Jesus name we all pray amen amen god bless you connect with CCF through the following websites [Music] jumpstart your spiritual journey by joining a small group [Music] we are so blessed you were able to join us today god bless and see you next time [Music]
