China furious! What’s in a name change? Everything, if it's Taiwan

so tonight in what is uh a real rarity the u.s is not giving in to saudi arabia real rarity here now for weeks the u.s has been considering the removal of patriot missiles from the kingdom despite the saudis insisting that the united states must not do that well the u.s has done exactly that and now there are questions as to whether the u.s is de-emphasizing the middle east or at least the gulf states in an effort to better target or be prepared possibly to target china speaking of china it is furious tonight because of reports that the u.s may be doing just that the latest perceived insult to china perceived by them of course has to do with what taiwan's diplomatic mission to the united states as pictured right there next to me see that that is the taipei economic and cultural office which is you know not a big deal that it's named that you know people from taipei people from taiwan are allowed to have a diplomatic uh relationship within the united states because a lot of cities throughout the world have cultural and economic exchange missions in the united states you notice i said cities but if that name is suddenly changed to taiwan instead of taipei that my friends would be a big deal and that's exactly what china is saying today i know it sounds like it's just a name who cares right taipei taiwan what what's the big deal right what's the big walk well it is a big whoop to china see they say it would signal that taiwan is now getting official diplomatic recognition as a state and they say look they're not a state they're a province of our country just how furious does that make china even the fact that they're considering changing the name from taipei to taiwan well here's how it responded today here's how china responded today quote if the united states and the taiwan island notice they call it an island not a country if they do change the names they are suspected of touching the red line of china's anti-secession law and the chinese man land will have to take severe economic and military measures severe economic and military measures see it right there in fact china is going further as far as to say that if the u.s and taiwan agree to this name change china will then impose both economic sanctions and even an economic blockade of the island a military economic blockade which it considers not an independent country but rather one of its provinces as we mentioned earlier so will the u.s allow taiwan to change its name from taipei to taiwan as a diplomatic force in the united states and is china serious about an economic blockade if they do so and can you imagine the type of showdown an economic blockade of taiwan would cause with navies from both china and the united states then facing off that's why we're following this story here on the news with rick sanchez where we like to remind you that it is time to do news again you
