CheckPoint and VMware SD-WAN: Securing the Cloud

we were here at VMworld 2019 Barcelona I'm here with Aviva opera much did I get that correct yes very good antastic so we are here at the tail end of this magnificent VMworld I've had a great time talking with people about sto and just really quickly what have been some couple year key takeaways from your experience here I think this is a magnificent trade show and we've seen a great great uptick for sd1 a lot of interest from all the visitors especially around what we do with checkpoints and VMware our collaboration so that's very very exciting times fantastic so we've got a partnership going with checkpoint and Bela cloud now part of VMware talk to me a little bit about that partnership so a checkpoint and VMware we decided to give the customers the best of both worlds a checkpoint we partnered with VMware to overlay security so customers can connect and deploy their sd1 into their networks move into the digital transformation age however they will use they will not compromise on security they will use the checkpoint security as the same way they're always done in their data center the traditional data center is now possible through sd-1 so we've got Cloud Connect guard and Cloud Connect edge talk to me a little bit about that and it was st when you know one of these things that kind of propelled that to Greinke's at these new products cloud guard edge and cloud guard connect but yes the sd1 is definitely the major use case for these products cloud guard edge is a simple vnf that runs inside the Velo cloud sd1 edge device and provide security in one particular appliance one box it's like you having to vendors running on the same appliance which is really cool the other one cloud guard connect provides security as a cloud service so if you cannot run for whatever reason the vnf on the edge device you have another option you can route traffic to the cloud service and that cloud service will provide you exactly the same security as the on-premise edge I can imagine you know I've been in the industry for 20 years and I was one of those guys back in the day sitting in those closets right trying to get everything connected together and making sure everything works yeah I can imagine the security professionals out there loved this idea of having one box with two different you know pieces of software on there so how have your engineers been looking at this from a security aspect so to several aspects I think we've been looking at this the first aspect is making sure that it is simple to deploy because when engineers here I have two solutions that I need to mesh together they're starting to consider to be concerned whether it's too complicated however we work together with VMware we've got good relationship and Janee ring level to make sure the solutions are super simple to deploy so you literally get the feeling it is one solution one vendor that you're deploying the other thing is about the security of course we wanted to bring the full what we call threat prevention and to protect against new emerging threats every day because you have to realize once you deployed sd1 all the traffic is being routed now to public Internet in the past you used MPLS and you cannot have the safe umbrella off of the data center to protect you but now we want to be idea want to be quick we want to deploy it quicker and sooner and faster so this is why you know bringing the security back to the branch to the sd1 edge is key yeah I've seen that as well you know me back when I started and you know I've been in this business a long time mine we're looking at like 48 years won't tell anybody you know back in the day right it used to be all your users are out here and those are the spokes and the hubs where all the data and all the absence prep but that is just blown up now the hub is the phone right you know a spokes are where all the applications are so you know having this alliance here Lausanne I have to imagine Laos you got to be a lot more agile in the deployment of new features and functions absolutely we have to look at what modern organizations look like today as you said you know we're a little bit old maybe but when I started in this industry I went to my computer at the office worked there and when I left that's it I'm off the network nowadays I'm just did worked few seconds ago on my phone and that exactly as you said we are everywhere our data is everywhere our applications are everywhere and they're no longer in the data server as a matter of fact you can safely say that the data center is evolving to be something completely different than with what what it was in the last 20 years so just one quick final question and right I mean that's what we are here but how do you see Sdn and check point you know two years in the future what do you see coming that people should be thinking of because I have to imagine right the st1 is changing the landscape about the way that we've built lands right and lands right so but when we look to the future what do you see is some of those security things at checkpoints doing to help bring that security even closer I think what we're doing is to make security ubiquitous security needs to be in every little part that we do it needs to be protecting the application protecting the user protecting the mobile phone an instant protect everywhere this way doesn't matter where you move where you where your phone is that where the application is that security needs to be to be adaptive and make sure that it always covers all the different angles and changes and you know leading everybody to the future we want to be more agile more support more use cases more applications and allow businesses to grow faster well I'm excited to see the partnership and I'm glad to see you know companies like Check Point you know working hand-in-hand with SSD when to help you know propel SDRAM as well to help propel you know the
