hey guys how's it going quartermaine here in today's video i'm going to show the plug that i had put in so that i can actually charge this at home and provide some data points on how long it takes to charge uh so yeah so let's get into the details and kind of give you guys some idea on the charging time um maybe try to extrapolate the cost as best as possible and kind of just provide some more uh insight on to you know living with as well as owning a ford lightning all right so here you'll see i have a nema 14-50r 240 volts socket put in my garage and right now the ford mobile charger is plugged into it however i will be actually swapping this out for an electrify america or possibly a charge point as the forums say that this should not be used daily and honestly i agree um you actually can see that it disconnects right there so you can put the 120 and it's just it's not the fastest either so but this will be the first time now that this is all set up to go ahead and plug the truck in so here's the part that goes into the truck uh it is just the was it the j 777 or one seven seven seven i can't remember the number but it's basically the top plug if you use a fast charger then you use those two bottom prongs as well just go ahead and plug this in and you're not going to see anything because i don't have the breaker on because i just got this installed so let me go ahead and navigate through my extremely messy garage one day this will be clean and you'll see the sub panel that i had put in the garage here i have a 30 for the welder which is another industrial plug and then i have a 40 amp for the where the compressor is going to live and then the 50 is for the uh charger so let's go ahead flip that on nothing goes crazy doesn't pop back you should see the blue light on here so that means that this is all connected and dude and then if i come up over here you'll see the blue light here um which is kind of looks weird in the camera but it does not look like a gel button in real life uh this actually kind of gives you state of charge to some extent so this is saying that it's a little more a little more than half full so yeah so that's all set up so now i'm gonna go ahead and let it charge uh let it run for a little bit and get some data on how long it takes to charge this my guess from half charge is probably gonna be 12 to 14 hours many unbearable hours later all right so now i'm back in the house and i'm going to go over some of the data points as well as some more of the specifics on my charging costs and kind of an idea of what my experience is as far as costs with electricity so here you'll see the app from ford shows that it'll be estimated charge completion at 9 37 and if i go ahead and click the details link i would get an additional a bit of information which you'll see here and this shows that it's going to try to charge to 100 it's going to basically be until 9 37 and it's currently done it for 20 minutes uh it's basically telling me that it'll be about 120 miles to add to the charge now for our house uh currently our expenses are actually pretty high considering that it's the summer and you know our kilowatt hours in this area are actually really high as well so i went ahead and created this estimate that shows the breakdown for 98 hours or sorry 98 kilowatt hours of charge it will break it down by the cost and then you can see here at the bottom that my total cost for this charge if i was from 0 to 98 would be roughly 31.50 which is going to be considerably less than a gas fill up and then here is the charge completion so it took about 10 hours i added 64 and i ended at 95 only reason for this was because i have to close my garage door i have to change the charger that i'm using in order to have it outside mounted so that i can actually close my garage door so yeah so there's the breakdown of my costs as well as about how long it took to charge the ford lightning like i said this is using probably about seven kilowatt hours so definitely not the fastest charger i'm excited to get a larger charger uh hopefully in the future and you know ideally i'd be able to do the pro power from ford however that's 80 amps which requires 100 amp breaker you know if it's on the road i could use one of the faster chargers that will you know drastically cut down my charging time um so hopefully this video was helpful i'm curious you know what are your charging times do you currently have your lightning are you waiting you know kind of just leave a comment and let me know where you are in the process and as always i appreciate you guys checking out these videos please like comment and subscribe and i'll catch you in the next video [Music] you
