I think I need a cold shower after this.
It's amazing to see the "in the field" fixes to get a loco back up and running, or at least able to be towed in to the shop.
I'm amazed that they (very simplified and probably wrong understanding) were basically able to lift the loco up trackside with two pieces of heavy equipment and essentially roll out the traction motor/axle combo. I know there were some beefy bolts holding the assembly to the frame, but it really isn't that much from what I can see. I figured that this would involve going back to the shop immediately. At the very least, I was expecting to see people crawling around inside the loco with wrenches, torches and a bfh to unbolt the motor from the prime mover.
That really is one Skookum Choo Choo.
(Wow, watching that lift with the two tracked mini-cranes was magnificent.)
