CES the largest and only Consumer Electronic Show kickstarted earlier this week I invited myself over to have a look see not that something I would normally do given that I'm a minimalist and I'm not so fascinated by tech gadgets and wisbang widgets but AI was everywhere there and so today we'll cover my top Tech trends of CES 2024 starting with the keynote that pronounced coding is essentially dead the programming language of the next decade is not going to be the traditional way that we've been in code it's just going to be natural language you're just going to describe what it is that you want the system to do and it will interpret it automatically and that's an incredibly democratizing and Incredibly exciting opportunity to reinvent every product and process and so now you see I tried to warn you guys and that was the AWS VP of Technology by the way even though he looks like a douchebag but the idea is that there's a low code movement coming in it's not exactly no code but it's using AI to assist with coding tasks so they're talking about replac placing exotic systems level programming languages with low code development environments like drag and drop interfaces and then abstracting on top of that with AI natural language such that anybody can do this stuff programmers may be working themselves out of a job now we also saw Samsung announc Bali an AI robot assistant with a projector that can roll around your house I'm pretty sure they got the inspiration for this from the Haro ball from the Gundam anime that follows around the characters doing various menal house tasks and I'm all for the only question I have is is this AI thing actually going to work it seems every CEO keynote announced the power of AI to empower themselves using the power of ai ai ai is here it's AI in the circular logic followed by blank stairs I didn't see AI actually not with my own eyes I saw a lot of press announcements and imaginations and hallucinations of what AI can do for us with LG going so as far as to redefine AI we like like to redefine it as affectionate intelligence powered by realtime life intelligence in sync with orchestrated intelligence and striving for responsible intelligence sure I guess it's all AI yeah I saw a robot dog using AI it could even jump so some competition for Boston Dynamics I saw a cooking machine that could cook your meat perfectly using AI once again aside from AI the second Tech Trend was electric vehicle EV everywhere and it made me concerned actually a little bit about Tesla as well but it seemed everybody was making electric vehicles these days some even with self-driving autonomous Behavior Sony and Honda mobility teamed up for the apila project a car that can be driven with a PlayStation controller Honda had some electric vehicle concept cars on display as well mercedesbenz 2 some of these look pretty nice you could tell some of these had bold brutalist designs probably taking inspiration from Tesla cybertruck like mullen's concept car for their truck and then for me at least the showstopper which I just stared at for a long while was LG's concept car their Alpha aable personalized Digital Cave autonomous self-driving car concept idea and so their idea here was to optimize for your relaxation and comfort time on the road Hyundai was showing off their mobus project where cars could move laterally like diagonally or they could just pivot in place where both the front and the back wheels would Spin and there were a lot of companies there in self driving technology one that stood out to me at least with zuk's which had Robo taxis that were actually in production just driving people around there's no steering wheel or anything apparently they in Foster City California already shutl lay around employees and I just asked them how do you have the permits for this already is isn't this what Tesla wanted to build are you telling me your Tech is more advanced than Tesla self-driving stuff they said yeah they said yeah yeah it was and so it's all to say from the show I realized Tesla's got their work cut out for them they've got massive competition from just about everybody they were the first to Market with EV and self-driving but now they've everybody's going after them I talked to a liar sensor company there as well for self-driving and they informed me that Tesla would not work with them Tesla fundamentally takes a different approach believing in using just the camera Imaging Tech mostly and so they were busy ripping out all of their Light Art tech there was an automatic street cleaner self-driving robot on display there at least the concept for one segue was showing off their electric ATVs which looked pretty cool I kind of wanted one there was electric bikes electric motorcycles Mercury had electric vehicle boat motors and then Hyundai was showing off their heavyduty HD Hyundai lineup of construction vehicles electrically powered which looked really cool kind of like something out of Starcraft now in TVs the doorbuster deal the show stopper just as you're walking into the main hall of CES is LG's 4K Wireless transparent TV apparently it's breakthrough technology and it does look pretty cool when you first see it it's this OLED TV display but it's transparent in the back maybe 30% transparent actually it's kind of dimmed in the back and it could be made opaque by sliding up a black panel on the back if you like but there were a few potential use cases they were suggesting somewhere for like hotel lobby use or high-end luxury room usage they're suggested also using as a bakery display where you could show the menu items and the prices show some animations for sales probably due to the higher price would mainly be for commercial usage at first but I also realized that we already do kind of have transparent displays like hypervision which they're showing off their 3D holographic fans and so in a way we already have some transparent displays now the other TV tech on display here that took the Highlight was micro LEDs or mini LEDs which is like a modular panel system that can make as big of a screen as you like for your house and it's fairly high quality good colors it's very bright with the idea being if you have a big wall you could set up a micro LED TV for it to cover it or you could also use x gim's IMAX enhanced projector I'm personally a fan of projectors like the ultra short throw projectors is a much simpler mobile setup you just can't use it well in the daytime I also saw a lot of Technology personally I was excited for the robot brista that can make a coffee for you hopefully some cheap coffee coming our way there was cooking Tech as well that could stir fry dishes make pastas or french fries for you apparently this machine is already being used in a lot of restaurant chains in Japan there were pool clean ERS that could scrub your pool for you if you need and there was also drone delivery and so Walmart announced that they're expanding their drone delivery service to most of D for worth and then DJI announced also a new drone specifically made for transportation and cargo carrying as much as 30 kilog across 16 kilm so we're entering in an age of flight some companies are even imagining flying cars using the power of drone technology and AI meanwhile Sony announced a new mixed reality heads set this would be used for creators or industrial design maybe they'll eventually compete with Apple's Vision Pro headset which was announced to launch February 2nd one interesting thing I noticed at CES was a lot of Partnerships being announced like Sony partnering with Honda for their Aila car project or Samsung partnering with Hyundai and then Walmart's partnering with Microsoft Sony Honda mobility is partnering with Microsoft and Seaman is partnering with again Microsoft and my problem with this is I don't really like the idea of my car being part of my tech Gadget ecosystem like if you drive a Honda you're going to be part of the Sony ecosystem now if you drive a Hyundai you're going to be part of the Samsung ecosystem and it's like can your Sony Honda car interact with your Samsung Galaxy phone which was made to work with the Hyundai cars and then there's rumors of Apple making their car So eventually your car is going to become part of your wall ecosystem Tech garden and then all the Partnerships with Microsoft show just how much first move advantage and dominance Microsoft is taking in the AI space with chat gbt another thing I noticed was a lot of the Silicon Valley Tech companies have minimal or even no Presence at CES like apple and Tesla weren't there and Google and Amazon were there too but they tend to save their big announcements for their own press events just so that they can have the whole show to themselves I think one thing about Silicon Valley Tech at least is it tends to have these grander Visions like some of the stuff I saw at CES was pretty small in scale you know like they wanted to make music for dogs that's pretty neat they claimed 50 sign at $15 a month that's like 750 bucks per month then that's enough for them enough to eat ramen which they had a Ramen making device for there as well that would purify the water and then make a Ramen for you great and so it's not necessarily that alltech needs to be world changing there were massage chairs some people make tech for the sake of tech like an ice cream maker where you can put in these capsules these coat snaps which seem to totally lack product Market fit because it's just going to be so expensive for each of these cartridges hey maybe maybe some people want it and otherwise there was a bunch of random cool Tech over at CES there was an exoskeleton for faster running or for lifting heavy objects there was a smart refrigerator smart laundry and dryer machines there was this company we imagin with a human brain interface that could help with spinal cord injuries Lifey was showing off a new oscillating electric toothbrush as well as new hair blower technology I like this Gamepad controller which could fit any phone and turn it into kind of like a steam deck there was also genetically engineed plants for better oxygen output as well as the Genesis water Cube system which could suck moisture out of the air to create drinkable water there were phone charger battery packs with RGB fans from charge RGB wall decorations from goie as well as some electric campers with digital features even when you're out in nature and in all of this tech one Trend that was actually refreshing to see at first I thought this was stupid it was just some Eco Consciousness you know greenness just being environmentally responsible and sustainable reusing materials from nature instead of creating new Plastics and spewing out digital waste and then finally we have my best of show a $10,000 smart toilet with e in technology installation not included I mean this is what CES was made for so I hope you enjoyed the coverage there's actually so much more these were just a few of my top highlights with that if you like the video give a like And subscribe see you in the next one thanks bye
