hello and welcome to best block reviews my name is Jason in this celestron trail cked 8bi 42 binocular review I'm going to be going over the main strengths and weaknesses of these binoculars and scoring them out of ten in six key areas in that way we'll get a total at the end where we can compare them against the hundreds of other binoculars that I've fully hands-on tested and reviewed here on bbr and we're going to start right now [Music] to begin with I just wanted to say whilst the aim to make these video reviews as comprehensive as possible there are many many important details as well as comparisons with other similar binoculars as well as lots of technical details and specifications that I just simply can't include in these videos otherwise it would just go on and on forever so the idea is this video should be used in conjunction with my more complete review of the celestron productors on the BB r website therefore I highly recommend that you first watch this review that will give you a good understanding of the main strengths and weaknesses of the celestron trail seeker binoculars and then afterwards click through the link on the description below that will take you to the more full and in-depth review on the BBL website also just a quick word about the scores in case you were wondering these are based on all the features and details from my full review and not just the highlights used in this video right with all that said on with a review the single bridge body design is pretty standard for a modern roof prism binocular but celestron has updated the exterior design from their older trail seeker non IDI glass version to be more modern looking which I personally really like the look of whilst just shy of about four centimeters across which is relatively narrow for a full sized binocular the central bridge feels very sturdy and I have no doubt that will be long lasting and take quite a large impact to knock the barrels out of alignment the hinge itself opens and closes with a good if perhaps a fraction too much resistance however in my opinion is far better to be a little bit on the tight side then have a loose hinge that won't remain at your chosen IPD position that equals the distance between your eyes speaking of which these celestron trowel cked binoculars have a minimum IPD position of five point six centimeters across and a maximum of seven point four which is very standard for a 42 millimeter binocular and that should cater for the majority of users are they celestron has opted to use a relatively hard rubber for the exterior armor which tends to be a little longer lasting and less likely to perish than softer ones in my experience however a binocular armor made from a thicker more spongy rubber will provide a little bit more impact resistance and generally has a higher level of grip so whilst celestron has improved the grip levels in strategic points on the sides of the barrels by imprinting this very fine texture into the armor it is still not quite as effective as a deeply textured softer rubber exterior that I see used by some manufacturers a real highlight on these binoculars is that they incorporate a magnesium alloy chassis which is more expensive to produce than the polycarbonate ones that are prevalent at this and the lower price levels whilst not as lightweight and magnesium chassis offers a better balance between weight strength and durability the body is also fully sealed and filled with nitrogen gas making them both waterproof and fog proof while celestron does specified in a fact sheet the eyepiece housings look to me to be made from metal and probably the same magnesium alloy used for the chassis this is good to see as this is an area on a binocular that often gets damaged when dropped but to save costs many manufacturers will use a plastic housing which is cheaper to make but knowing air is impact resistant likewise under the rubber covers the eye cups themselves also look to be made from metal although unlike some very high-end instruments these can't be completely unscrewed and removed should you need to have them replaced the function of the twist up mechanism is also very good as it lacks any sort of free play or looseness that are often find whilst these celestron trail seekers have only one click stop between the fully extended and the fully retracted positions there is a really good level of resistance to movement which means you can actually position the cups at 80 point and they will remain there even when you press them quite firmly against your face which is perfect if you need to fine-tune the amount of eye relief a noticeable difference and certainly an improvement between the older non IDI trail seeker and these jews celestron trail cked 8 by 42 binoculars is in the focus will God is the generic and rather boring looking plastic wheel that you find on many modern instruments at the mid to lower price levels instead slash rod has upgraded the trail cked to a metal focus wheel which not only looks for nicer but also has a really smooth action to it at 30 millimeters in diameter and 26 millimeters long it is a little smaller than what I typically see on a full-size instrument but it is still easy to reach and the great action and rubber track make it nice and easy to use even with just one finger the focus mechanism is geared in such a way that it takes one and a half turns of the wheel to move from a minimum to maximum focus their scaring is what I would call about average and a good compromise between speed and accuracy so a more aggressive gear would make it faster to make large focal adjustments but it is also a little more difficult to make fine adjustments and the opposite is true for a less aggressive gear in order to compensate for any difference in vision between your left and right eyes any binocular worth its salt has some sort of diopter adjuster on these celestron trail cked 8 by 42 binoculars it comes in the form of a wheel that is located on the right I piece which is in the standard location the adjustment range of these is good but not outstanding and whilst it is not lockable like the very best there is enough resistance built into the system to inhibit most accidental movement if you're not entirely sure how to use a doctor I've added a link somewhere down in the description below as well as in a card somewhere up there that will take you through took my complete guide on how to set up and calibrate your binoculars to make your own particular vision just so that you get the best out of them described as tripod adaptable attaching these celestron Trail cked binoculars to a tripod is about as straightforward as it gets all you need to do is unscrew the cover on the front hinge this reveals a standard quarter-inch thread that will accept just about any standard tripod adapter these are readily available relatively inexpensive and specifically designed to fit on to most tripod heads I have a guide to tripod adapters on my channel which I will link to with a card and down in the description below if you need any more information on this you I measured the outer ocular lenses to be 23 millimeters in diameter which is on the larger end of the spectrum for a 42 millimeter binocular larger ocular lenses potentially have a number of advantages over smaller ones the most important probably being that it is easier to line up your eyes with the larger lenses leaving less chance of dark rings forming around the edges of the view considering how short the celestron trail seeker is when compared to other 42 millimeter burr Nautilus I was really impressed to see just how deeply set back the objective lenses were from the ends of the barrels I made it to about 8 millimeters so whilst they could have made the body even more compact by shortening the barrels there's over hang offers a good amount of protection to the lenses from things like dust as well as scratching in terms of their optics the standout difference between these and the older celestron trail seekers is that this new IDI version now incorporates elements within the objective lenses that have extra low dispersion properties this upgrade means that they now have the possibility of better directing the individual wavelengths of light as it passes through the lenses and thus reduces chromatic aberrations this results in a higher definition image with less visible color fringing if at any time you have a question about a feature or a technical term that I mentioned that you don't fully understand if something is just not clear please feel free to ask your questions down in the comments below and I will get back to you alternatively you could just click through to the BBL website where there are answers to most frequently asked questions these celestron trail cked binoculars have a fully multi-coated optical pathway versus an important feature and certainly something to look out for when choosing a pair of binoculars but it is important to be very careful of the precise wording fully multi-coated tells us that binocular has multiple layers of a special anti reflection material added to every single air to gloss surface throughout the entire optical system whereas lower quality binoculars will only be fully coated with meaning that they have a single coating on all of the surfaces or multi coated meaning multiple layers but only on some surfaces the level of anti-reflection coatings does make a noticeable difference in both the quality and brightness the image the roof prisms on these celestron binoculars are made from bak for glass and have a very high level of coatings to start with they are dielectric Li coated which is really impressive at this price level as many will use less-expensive silver mirror coatings a dielectric d coated prism ensures that over 99% of the light in all the wavelengths gets transmitted resulting in a brighter higher-quality view on top of this the prisms also have phase correction coatings added to them this keeps the separate wavelengths of light in step whilst it passes through the prism and thus ensures that these binoculars deliver an image with an improved resolution and contrast when compared to a roof prism binocular without them if a very wide view is important to you which will be the case for many users but especially birders then these celestron trail cked 8 by 42 binoculars certainly won't let you down indeed as you can see from this table at 426 feet wide when measured at a distance of a thousand yards away they have an extremely wide field of view that ranks them amongst the very best 8 by 40 twos I've ever tested this wide view is instantly noticeable and something that I really did appreciate when testing and comparing em against others at longer ranges you can scan wide areas more easily and taken more of the view without having to pan the view about and therefore have a better chance of spotting something of interest but it has at closer ranges where a wide view like this is at its most beneficial firstly because you are seeing a bigger picture it makes it much easier to quickly locate what you want to observe which if it is something small like a bird really helps then if it is fast-moving and erratic again something like a bird a wide view really makes a much easier to follow when you take into account that these celestron binoculars have such a wide field of view and a really good close focusing distance it is doubly impressive that they have still been able to maintain such a good amount of eye relief at seventeen point two millimeters they don't break any records but just massage and what I would class is having very long eye relief but in combination with a multi-position eye cups that as we have already discussed work really well then you have plenty of room for customization to ensure that you are able to take in the full view even whilst wearing glasses as well as the useful selection of accessories carry case next strap lens covers rain guard and cleaning cloth these celestron trail seeker Eadie binoculars are boxed with a binocular harness which is nice to see and for some users will be a very welcomed addition on the whole these accessories are pretty much what I expect to find at this price level and whilst none of them really jump out at you all of them pretty much do their job as intended as I mentioned earlier the carry case works perfectly fine and is pretty much on a par with most at this price level but in terms of its luxurious it just lacks a little especially when you compare it to the one that you used to get with the older version of the trail seeker to be fair to celestron there's nothing really wrong with it the binoculars fit well inside it is secure well padded has its own carry strap a double belt loop on the back and a separate closed pocket inside however it would it be nice if the case could have matched the same very high standard set by the binocular itself well there you have it I do hope that this mini highlights review of these celestron trail seeker binoculars has been of both use and of interest to you as I mentioned at the start for the complete version that contains tons and tons more information that I simply can't include in this video please be sure to check out the link down in the description below also if you have enjoyed this video and all founded of interests and use I'd really appreciate it if you could hit that thumbs up button also if possible subscribe these are things that really do help this channel and help me continue to produce more and more content in the future so until next time I hope to see you soon thanks
