the sky suite is the entry-level suite category on celebrities edge-class ships but is it worth the extra cost to upgrade to a sky suite well if you want my opinion you're just going to have to watch the video [Music] hello cruisers and welcome to another cruise report stateroom review today we're going to take a look at the sky suite on celebrity apex we recently spent seven nights in a sky suite now originally we were booked in an aqua class infinite balcony stateroom but soon after boarding we were given the opportunity to upgrade to a sky suite this could have been because we were sailing right in the middle of the kind of omicron variant surge and there were a lot of last minute cancellations or at least we suspect so now in the spirit of full disclosure we did not pay for this cruise we were invited by celebrity to cover this ship for our website and our youtube channel however celebrity is not sponsoring this video nor has any money exchanged hands celebrity has no input into the content of this video and they have no idea how we're going to review the ship the crew or in this case the sky suite i'm going to tell you exactly what we liked about the sky suite and what we didn't like so let's get started as i mentioned in the introduction the sky suite is the entry level suite category on celebrities edge class ships the sky suites are scattered throughout various locations on the ship they're not all in one area now to understand a little better how the sky suite fits into the stateroom category lineup it might be helpful to look at some of the various lower categories first edge class ships offer inside staterooms which range in size from 181 to 220 square feet we did get a chance to tour one of these inside staterooms and it was actually quite nice the ocean view staterooms are about the same size as the inside veranda staterooms are the most prolific category and it's the category where you're going to find the infinite veranda staterooms there are several different configurations of these veranda staterooms which can vary in size from 243 square feet all the way up to 369 square feet and of course these square footages may vary from ship to ship when you're shopping for accommodations on the celebrity website you'll also see some categories for concierge class which comes at a higher price and aqua class at an even higher price than concierge class it's important to note that concierge and aqua class staterooms are identical to infinite veranda staterooms but with added amenities and perhaps some premium locations on the ship so for all of the details on concierge class and aqua class you should refer to the celebrity website the first real step up from an infinite balcony or infinite veranda state room is a sky suite and the sky suites range from 397 square feet all the way up to 517 square feet and even within sky suite categories there are multiple subcategories there's an aqua class sky suite a sunset sky suite with aft views and they even have a magic carpet sky suite and once again i would invite you to refer to the celebrity website for all of the details and all the amenities of these various sweet categories however no matter which sky suite category you choose you have full access to the retreat and i'm going to talk more about the retreat here in just a moment first what does it cost to book a sky suite well that's going to depend a lot on factors such as how many sky suites are available on your particular sailing as the sky suites begin to sell out celebrity will likely increase these prices and there's other factors to consider as well but as an example just for comparison i selected a random sailing in 2024 on celebrity beyond their newest ship and on that particular sailing an inside state room is selling for 8.99 per person a veranda price is starting at 11.99 per person concierge from 13.99 and sky suite pricing begins at around 26.99 per person so is it worth that extra 1400 per person to book the sky suite instead of a veranda of course that's going to depend on your priorities but let's look at what you would get for that extra fourteen hundred dollars per person on this particular sailing first you get celebrities premium drink package the premium wi-fi package some shore excursion credit and onboard credit now to be fair all celebrities guests get the basic drink package i think they call the classic package which is actually pretty generous everyone gets included gratuities and everyone also gets their classic or basic wi-fi package but only the sweet guests get the premium drink package and wi-fi unless of course you pay extra for those you also get a larger stateroom you get a real outdoor balcony instead of an infinite veranda you get the services of a butler but perhaps the most valuable perk you get in the sky suite is access to the retreat you have 24 hour access to the retreat lounge which is a private very luxurious lounge where you can enjoy your favorite cocktail or afternoon tea continental breakfast or just relax i found myself in the retreat lounge every single morning for coffee it was peaceful and i was able to work on my laptop with my blog in a really luxurious setting as a retreat guest you also have access to the private retreat pool and sun deck on deck 16 forward and retreat guests also have exclusive access to their own private restaurant illuminae which is very nice so you could think of the retreat as a private ship within a ship in our opinion all of these added benefits and perks are well worth an extra fourteen hundred dollars per person now i'm just about ready to take you on a tour of our sky suite but before i get started i would like to ask if you could do me a favor if you're enjoying this video so far and if you're passionate about cruising please take a second to subscribe to our youtube channel it doesn't cost anything to become a subscriber and youtube will notify you when we put out new videos like this one just click that little subscribe button and that notification bell i do appreciate it okay so let's take a look at the sky suite that we occupied 10 152. now having just come from an infinite veranda suite down the hall when we walked into our sky suite it immediately felt more spacious luxurious a chilled bottle of champagne was waiting for us on the coffee table very nice there's a large comfortable sofa across from the sofa is a three drawer dresser mini refrigerator stocked with beer and soft drinks and a narrow work surface that can be extended or pushed in for more space there's a very clever electronic charge box on the desk which is designed to hide your cell phone chargers and other electronic chargers and cables however my mac power adapter would not fit inside the box so be aware of that it's not a big deal the box has a european style 220 volt outlet two us-style 110 outlets and two usb ports above the dresser is a large flat screen television which can be swiveled from the wall for viewing from the bed and the king-size bed in the sky suite faces the floor-to-ceiling glass wall that leads out to the spacious balcony we really like that the balcony has two chairs and a small table and if you plan on having a large breakfast on the balcony i don't know perhaps they bring the coffee table in from the suite out to the balcony i'm not really sure how they do it because we didn't have breakfast on our balcony the balcony door is a sliding glass door which is much preferred over a hinged balcony door much quieter much smoother now unlike some other sweet designs where you can separate the bedroom from the living room with say a curtain the sky suite is basically one large space the king-size bed is the most comfortable we've ever slept on i think i mentioned that in my apex review and even the pillows were amazing on one side of the bed is a narrow cubby style nightstand with a bedside lamp on the opposite side of the bed is a wider nightstand with a lamp and a phone and there are two usb charging ports on this side of the bed but there aren't any other on the other side i also found a usb port on the side of the phone but i'm not sure if it was active or not i had something charged plugged in there and it never seemed to charge the bathroom is large and able to accommodate two people at the same time there's a lot of storage in the bathroom and ricky gives a big thumbs up to celebrity for including a lighted magnifying makeup mirror in the bathroom along with a sit down vanity area complete with a vanity stool now we were not huge fans of the bathtub shower combo because we never take a bath we always prefer a nice walk-in shower however that said the rain shower head on this ship is one of the best we've ever used and the presence of a shower door instead of a curtain helped keep the bathroom floor dry anyone with mobility issues though should take note that you have to step over the side of the tub to get into this shower now if you do happen to like taking a bath on a cruise ship which a lot of people do this tub is a very nice one it's very large we love the separate water closet feature the bathroom mirror in the sky suite opens to become a window with a view into the suite we never opened this because truthfully we forgot it was there the mirror does fog up when someone was taking a shower something that won't happen in the infinite veranda suites because those have heated mirrors in fact i think all the other stateroom categories have heated mirrors there was plenty of closet space but we did not understand why the electronic safe was so narrow it could only fit maybe your cell phones a little jewelry your wallet maybe a small ipad if you have one of the larger ipads forget it interestingly every stateroom category and suite that we toured had the exact same small safe so what did we love about the sky suite and what did we not care for well let's start with what we thought had some room for improvement we got quite a bit of wind noise coming through our balcony door it was sort of a whistling sound and at night when we're trying to sleep it was pretty annoying we did report this to our butler and in no time a maintenance man was in our suite working on the door unfortunately the issue never got completely resolved and of course this could be a one-off situation just in that particular suite there was an excellent choice of tv news channels on the flat screen tv but we thought the selection of movies was pretty limited also we'd like to see some hooks placed on the hallway wall we always bring our own magnetic hooks for our caps and masks sunglasses etc but built-in hooks are always welcome certainly there's a lot more we loved about the sky suite the butler service was incredible our butler anand was on hand to make restaurant reservations he even set up a special dining a dinner for me with some indian food one night he would have helped us with anything we needed such as shore excursions but we didn't do any in fact he even crushed ice to help keep ricky's eye drops cold without being asked to do so our stateroom attendant orlon was also excellent provided daily cleaning of the room as well as an evening turn down service they even still put chocolates on the pillows each evening and that is a cruise line tradition that just seems to be slowly fading away on a lot of cruise lines we really liked the color palette and the carpeting in the suite which gives it a very contemporary and a classy feel we found the storage throughout the suite and the bathroom to be more than adequate and the dual faucets in the bathroom with that long large sink was really nice the ability to control the thermostat the lights and even the drapes or the curtains from the celebrity app on your phone is also really cool you can even open your stateroom door using the app in case you forgot your key card one little touch that did not go unnoticed is the magnetic do not disturb sign i'm not sure why every cruise line has not adopted this instead of that stupid paper sign that always falls off the door handle when you close the door now we've been fortunate to stay in a lot of different state room and suite categories on over 107 different ships in the past 20 years the sky suite on celebrity apex would rank right up there i'd say in the top five and i'm including some really large suites on five-star luxury cruise ships in the mix the additional square footage of the sky suite the butler service premium amenities and access to the retreat make upgrading to a sky suite a real value for those who want a luxury experience on a larger ship now if you've stayed in a sky suite on celebrity edge apex or beyond please put your comments in the section below we would love to read your thoughts what did you think of the sky suite did you feel it was worth the additional cost would you book a sky suite again just let us know i want to thank you for taking the time to watch this video and if you enjoyed the video i'd appreciate it if you click that little like button it really does help with our youtube rankings thanks for watching again and until next time we wish you smooth sailing
