oh god who caused the minds of the faithful to unite in a single purpose grant your people to love what you command and to desire what you promise that amid the uncertainties of this world our hearts may be fixed on that place where true gladness is found through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the first letter of paul to timothy from paul an apostle of christ jesus by the command of god our savior and of christ jesus our hope to timothy my loyal child in the faith grace mercy and peace from god the father and christ jesus our lord i am grateful to christ jesus our lord who has strengthened me because he judged me faithful and appointed me to his service even though i was formerly a blasphemer a persecutor and a man of violence but i received mercy because i had acted ignorantly in unbelief and the grace of our lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in christ jesus the word of the lord thanks be to god you are my inheritance o lord you are my inheritance o lord protect me o god for in you i take refuge i say to the lord you are my lord i have no good apart from you the lord is my chosen portion and my cup you behold my lot you are my inheritance o lord i bless the lord who gives me counsel in the night also my heart instructs me i keep the lord always before me because he is at my right hand i shall not be moved you are my inheritance oh lord you show me the path of life in your presence there is fullness of joy in your right hand are pleasures forevermore you are my inheritance oh lord your word o lord is truth make us holy in the truth [Music] the lord be with you a reading from the holy gospel according to luke jesus told his disciples a parable can a blind person lead a blind person will not both fall into a pit a disciple is not above the teacher but everyone who is fully qualified will be like the teacher why do you see the spec in your neighbor's eye but do not notice the log in your own eye or how can you say to your neighbor friend let me take the speck out of your eye when you yourself do not see the log in your own eye you hypocrite first take the log out of your own eye then you will see clearly you take the speck out of your neighbor's eye the gospel of the lord there's a saying that we have in ministry where you can't give what you don't have you need to know the lord in order to share the lord you need to be catechized in order to catechize you have to have something to give in order to share it and the gospel reminds me of this today when it says everyone who was fully qualified would be like the teacher we are blessed when we gain experience and knowledge and understanding these gifts of the holy spirit when we gain these insights into the spiritual life and our catholic tradition we are blessed to receive these things and when we receive them we ought to have confidence and quite frankly happiness in sharing those things with our neighbors and our family this is what i've learned this is what i know this is what i experienced to talk about it freely and happily everyone who is qualified will be like a teacher this is discipleship lived out in action we're not mute and silent and hiding our faith never sharing it no no we we are called to support the people around us well not to be shy about it it's true we're not perfect there's always more to learn usually there's more to confess and when we are aware of those things we learn them we confess them but that should never really stop us from sharing with what we do have can the blindly the blind know but the disciple who has learned who is qualified is like teacher and it's a privilege and an awesome experience for a disciple of christ to be a teacher and a helper to the people around them we now stand as the family of god and offer our prayers and petitions to our lord this afternoon for church leaders may god grant them wisdom and mercy in shepherding their flock let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for those in positions of authority may god show them the way of peace and justice let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for those burdened by hardships may god's healing grace come upon them let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for all in our faith community who dedicate themselves to lives of service may god imbue them with the strength and commitment they need let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer for the dead may they come to share in the heavenly kingdom and we pray especially for joe vince for whom this mass is offered let us pray to the lord lord hear our prayer we pray for dan and karissa who will be married in our cathedral today two o'clock for their future sacrament and holy matrimony we pray to the lord amen god of mercy we offer you ourselves in these prayers for the benefit of all your people through christ our lord blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the bread we offer fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual dream pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father o lord who gained for yourself a people by adoption through the one sacrifice offered once for all bestow graciously on us we pray the gifts of unity and of peace through christ our lord the lord be with you lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord in him you have been pleased to renew all things giving us all a share in his fullness and though he was in the form of god he emptied himself and by the blood of his cross brought peace to all creation therefore he has been exalted above all things and to all who obey him has become the source of eternal salvation and so with angels and archangels with thrones and dominions with all the hosts and powers of heaven we sing the hymn of your glory as without end we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory hosanna in the hinds blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord hosanna in the highest you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness [Music] make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith save our savior of the world for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you've held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world and bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope and brian our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the blessed apostles and all the saints who will please you throughout the ages we may merit to be co-heirs to eternal life may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our is in father you give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant your peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign forever and ever the peace of the lord be with you always let us offer to each other a sign of peace you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb the earth is replete with the fruits of your work o lord you bring forth bread from the earth and wine to cheer the heart complete within us o lord we pray the healing work of your mercy and graciously perfect and sustain us so that in all things we may please you through christ our lord the lord be with you may mighty god bless you the father the son and the holy spirit go in peace you
