Love those hats!
The 1943 Twentieth Century Fox musical, "The Gangs all Here," catapulted Carmen Miranda from a co-star to headliner, largely on the strength of director-choreographer Busby Berkeley's deliriously surrealistic vision. I am betting that anyone who has ever seen Miranda perform "The Lady in the Tutti Frutti Hat" is not likely to forget it. While this 1944 follow-up, in which she received top billing, is entertaining, its dance numbers are relatively stodgy and probably disappointed audiences who might have been anticipating more of Berkeley's lunacy. The very good score is by Cole Porter and the book is by Herbert and Dorothy Fields.
