Carers NSW - Miriam Margolyes on her caring for her mother

you've been public previously about the fact that at one point you struck your mother in a sense of despair and frustration about her I think well can you it can you explain the case I I thought that I should go public as it were about such a thing because I'm sure that many people I can't be the only person who has felt rage and frustration and bitterness and horror at having to deal with this situation here was the woman who had always cared for me I was now having to care for her and because she was mentally affected she couldn't understand what I was saying and she was trying to communicate with me and the whole thing just got out of hand and I hit my mother I hit the person I loved most in the world and I'm deeply deeply ashamed of it it was a dreadful thing to do and she forgave me she forgave me you know that that humbles me to this day and so I feel I have to admit what happened and say it happened only once it never happened again and I would never do it again but sometimes that happens and that's the sort of stress that we're all having to face those of us who are carers
