doing so well just inch it out muscle it out push that device as far forward as you can oh god this is gonna be so long dig deep cara come on go girl oh so she's back all of the way and already she's grinding to a halt you're just gonna have to muscle it out okay come on you bastard [Music] born to be wild [Music] a singer and a model and when she posts on social media about what she's having for breakfast 40 million fans take notes she's also got a reputation for being a bit of a wire of one where we're going that might be useful okay let's go i've been dropped on this very very long road and just been told to walk i've been given a key and i do not know what this is for oh oh no that is a vesper i'm pretty sure that might be mine oh no bear where the frig are you okay so that's on oh my god guys i'm definitely putting my money where my mouth is this is meant to be one of my favorite things in the world to like be on adventures to experience everything to push myself to put myself out of my comfort zone like this is the epitome of what i love doing come on excuse me yeah i'm not scared of getting hurt my biggest fear is failure but now i'm actually here i'm like just a little bit scared which is very very sad to admit okay the jagged mountains of sardinia are probably the last place you'd expect to see supermodel actress and singer cara delevingne that's because she's been gracing red carpets and catwalks since she was a teenager and nowadays she's making her mark in hollywood but if you're one of her 42 million instagram followers you'll know she has a wild fearless side [Music] she's not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and her uninhibited unapologetic behavior has made her a powerful voice to a generation of fans cara is a fellow brit and i know that her public persona is only a small part of who she really is i can't wait to get to know the real cara the rugged delevingne of sardinia and for over 2 000 years miners have braved these steep ravines and these towering cliffs looking for precious metals they reckon some of these old mining routes are still in existence and cara and me are going to try and follow one she better be ready oh hi well done good for you you're all right that was pretty cool okay so from here we're heading into the mountain well before we go we're gonna try and strip anything we think we can use off this into the helicopter and then we're out of here okay fuel we should definitely take okay okay let's try and find the fuel tank so from here we're heading straight to the mountains in the helicopter i want to use every bit of survival equipment i can off her little scooter it's going to involve being imaginative so i've got some fuel i've got a mirror i've got a battery out of this scooter i've got some wire got the wrench all things that i can use in the backpack this bag is getting heavy now we're on our way okay good let's do it come with me okay we're outta here okay so we're going up to about 6 000 feet so it is quite high okay we're going to try and get onto one of these it will be just behind this reach so what just happened i've got whisked away on a helicopter that's what every girl wants right um and just brought into this incredible incredible landscape i didn't know whether i was more scared that the ground was gonna fall beneath my feet or that my hair didn't look good in the camera it's pretty remote here yes but it's it's beautiful so gorgeous you know our extraction is about 30 miles that way it is steep rocky terrain definitely bad ass perfect for you perfect let's do it okay we're heading this way from where we've been dropped off cara and i are over a mile high in elevation we need to head east to reach our extraction point so we'll be working our way down loose crumbling rocks and sheer cliffs similar to what miners would have done in this region hundreds of years ago our first priority is to try and reach the river valley below in the hope of finding a place to make shelter for the night okay so we're essentially going to try and keep heading down okay okay let me just spot you down here who's spotting you bear huh has anyone asked you that before i know so nice thank you i was designed to be a rock climber my arms are far too long for my body really that's a good natural talent well because you know your arm your spare arms band is meant to be your height mine is six foot one let's have a look yes you are you are that crazy yes yeah rock climbing good second career yeah right yeah i'm gonna quit my day job getting careful on that that's wet oh sure so the wet stuff is super slippery and if we sleep oh wow it's a long way down with an average rainfall of 40 inches this whole region is constantly wet the water carves its way through the mountain rocks made up of limestone and granite and over time erosion occurs that creates a dangerous and unstable environment so this stuff really careful that could be us so where were you brought up cara england london and were you kind of adventurous or yes i preferred to be outside and climbing and being naked and clothed in inside and boring yeah i mean who needs clothes i mean come on you know yeah agreed okay come up here we're right on the edge well done okay so turn around okay that is our direction oh my god i've set up this line here and where we are is a lot of the old mining routes but this is exactly some things they'd use to get supplies in and out of inaccessible places we're gonna use this clip onto it okay and just go across terrifying i'm going to give you a little jumar device you can clip on great you can pull itself for long the first bit is going to be easy because your weight gravity will take you down yeah and then the second bit just use that pull yourself a little but it will work you'll work your guns okay and just don't look down okay i've done that too much already okay this is called the tiraleon traverse it's 150 feet across and 200 feet above the jagged rocks and shallow pools below cara will be attached to this line and she's going to have to pull her way across so you put it on like that yeah and close it and it won't come back great okay okay so that's the way to do it yeah the longer one initially and then you put your weight on it so now you're on with both of those and that and then you just gotta trust it goodbye good luck now i'm scared now i'm a little scared oh no that's no joke that's no joke oh no what's he doing oh this is hard work okay so i caught a lot of way down and i can tell already this is gonna be a physical one oh no mr grills oh oh my god that's a workout definitely hard work made it across from honestly only just okay you're good kara you know the bit i said about gravity doing the first bit yeah that's wrong you're just gonna have to muscle it out most of the way oh no okay you're good kara you know the bit i said about gravity doing the first bit yeah that's wrong you're just gonna have to muscle it out most of the way oh no hopefully i'll get across before i get scared that's what i'm hoping for so speed is my my key which probably isn't very clever but whatever ah dude i'll tell you what this is gonna be a workout for her oh my god oh god i'm scared oh no oh [Music] oh this is gonna be so long there's so much friction with the rope and the carabiner over it that each couple of feet is like a pull-up so she's back all of the way and already she's grinding to a halt you can do this push that device as far forward as you can there you go you knew both hands great job keep pushing you can do it guys oh god come on go girl doing so well just inch it out muscle it out so close so close keep coming okay come on you bastard [Music] another five foot you're there i'm so close i'm so close here we go here we go oh my god that was really hard sweat speed is usually my go-to it was a bad idea because after i got halfway just tore me up my core my arms yeah that last bit was really hardcore my my stomach is shaking good scooped never give up never give up never so that was definitely harder work than i anticipated but uh cara muscled it out she's got great natural physicality and strength but most importantly kind of that never give out spirit and out here that is king so what was your what was your life like growing up didn't you start modeling it and you were really young yeah i mean i don't think it was modeling i mean in my mind i was like doing sports day one day and my mom was like someone's gonna come take pictures of you so and did you understand no not at all i remember someone telling me it was like bruce weber and italian vogue or something and i was like cool i don't know what that means you could have told me i was doing something for captain underpants i probably would have cared more so where did it come from who who was driving that well i think i was quite a peculiar looking kid so i think people looked at me and were like i want to take pictures of her and that's why i think where it came from but again i never looked at models and magazines and were like wow that's something i really want to do or you know i obviously noticed that i was like that's a beautiful person but everyone's beautiful as a kid you know everyone there's there is no ugly or beautiful when you're a child so to me it was just like why am i different i read that grey thing of one of your first encounters with burberry when they say get out or something what was it most castings i went to most people i met were kind of like you know turn turn away kind of just i would try on a clothing and they'd tell me to leave or what age is this 17 18. rejection was that a huge was is that a must have been a huge part of that then i mean i think i'd always felt a sense of rejection my entire life just because i was never that good at school um i always wanted to be really smart and i was wanted to be the best or i was wanted to be better um than what i was so when i started getting rejected in modelling it just helped me affirm that i wasn't good enough so it was kind of like giving a self-harm or a knife i was just like great i knew i wasn't good enough for this and then finally when i got a job i was like oh that's weird the only thing i attest to that is never giving up yeah which is the most important thing i think i've ever my most important skill in life well the wire's always good like that it doesn't ask anything of you far from do your best outdoor space and the wild and nature is the most important thing in the whole entire world for my sanity if you're going to the forest and you just sit with your thoughts and feelings everything kind of becomes clear and you're not being judged so i do think that's a huge part of why the wire could be so transformative for people recently i went out into a forest i was doing like a i'd work too much on my skin might have psoriasis and my skin got really bad and i was trying to go get healthy i was in the woods by myself and i just took off all my clothes and i just sat there and i was like and not for any reason not to prove anything just because i was like so comfortable and i cried you feel so unjudged and just comfortable so nice but that's great healing isn't it wow that's the best i mean that is nature's therapy for you really okay you ready no let's do it [Music] careful on this stuff you can hear water yes water is a good thing yeah there you go there's the stream aha we found it looks like that river bends east so i reckon if we can follow it down out of this peak it's going to make for a much easier path for us one of the difficulties of this sort of terrain is you've got all of these canyons and gullies crisscrossing our route so you're kind of thinking we're heading that way and suddenly a huge drop off so we can get down this and that's a chance for us to refill our canteens and then keep going maybe we just repel off this yeah simple throw down that use the rope the most important thing with this yeah is making sure we tie off to something strong strong okay what about this look that does not look strong you don't reckon no what can possibly go wrong this tree is definitely not stable enough but i i i trust bear i trust his instincts i don't trust mine right now because i'm now fearing so fear is not good so i'm just gonna trust him well let's put some weight on it together okay yeah it's pretty good you happy yeah okay it's about 180 feet from the top of this cliff to its base the steep terrain is made up of loose and sharp rocks that can easily cut through the rope especially under tension okay right so good road management is key to this repel oh wow nice throw you know you're cool when you have matte black carabiners yeah brilliant okay hand right hand on here yeah never let go yep okay so i'm gonna go first i'll give you a tug from the bottom rope's clear and you're good to go great all right but you're now entirely on your own okay here we go where is awkward cara just remember lean back take your time nice wide stance great good so ready so leaving cara on her own to do this and it's awkward terrain and slippery but she'll be all right oh god i'm just watching bear propelling down the mountainside oh he seems to be stuck oh lord it's making me a little scared to see bear struggle that's awkward terrain there oh was that a tug okay all right so i'm trying to remember what i was told okay all right off i go okay oh come on cara you can do this well done looking good oh god okay that's it well i'm really good for me i get such a kick out of seeing somebody learn so fast and embrace difficult things and embrace it with real positivity and then being able to also keep calm in the moment to think calmly that's a skill not a lot of people have and it's great saying kara smash it good for her okay you want to go a bit faster down this big yeah yeah yeah little bounce off and then straight down so good well done straight down all the way really good i mean amazing that was literally so much fun that was fun honestly it's my favorite thing just getting head first into stuff i feel pretty good about it i feel excited to be on the ground a little bit of fear but um you know without kind of giving me directions it was really good i had a really good time i want to do it again i really want to do it again again again well done for a first time for a pearl off that cliff big smile totally committed the main thing is she's definitely got that ability to stay calm when you're scared and using the adrenaline but not getting overwhelmed by it and she's definitely got that quality she's good and a survivor out here clear water is in clean water so we're going to boil that later but let me stick it in your pan cara and i are halfway down this mountain and the route we've taken has leveled out for now so we're gonna follow the flow of the river until we can find a spot to make shelter for the night so really careful on this bit oh my rat rat oh this is good make sure it's not alive yeah definitely not alive please don't make me eat that if i thank you bye oh my rat rad this is good make sure it's not alive [Music] yeah definitely not alive no please don't make me eat that please i beg you hi any animal i can deal with just some how rats somehow get to me it's like bear knows my deepest fears in life well i reckon a lot of the sardinian miners would have lived off this stuff you're slowly collecting a lot of very weird things not in my bag it's going in the bag oh no i'll leave the tail just poking out oh no good dinner done great done okay we're looking also somewhere to make camp now in the wild got to kind of scavenge what you can scavenge eat and use what you can find and a little rat hay you know might not be entirely fresh but if we cook it for long enough we'll make a good dinner this is beautiful okay look this actually this would be a good place to camp so if we get a bunch of sticks lean them that way put loads of brushwood on top that will make a nice shelter we could have a fire out here you clear some of those okay i'm gonna get a bunch of these you make it nice and flat because this is where we're gonna sleep with here like okay let me get some some branches do we care about these like acorny things where the acorns we don't care about all of this we don't know this is oh no you know this trick so there's always a really good little trick you can do with the little acorn uh shells and you put it between your thumbs and you blow over the top of it and you get the angle just right it creates a really loud whistle hello like that and then you blow just across the top of it you take [Music] good survival thing if you lost use that signal for help okay so you lay those out yeah where so like like maybe start from here so this is really just a simple lean-to shelter you know got a great natural bow of this tree you can leave some branches against it lots of brush on top and then that's going to protect us from any bad weather also nice and warm underneath fun easy shelter to make okay so we got the rag yeah soaked with fuel i'll put that under there we've got your motorbike battery yep got two terminals when you touch them okay we're going to get that yep touch it on there i'm really pleased we got that battery from that little moped and you know if you get the two terminals that strayed onto a rag with a tiny little bit of the uh the fuel on it is going to create fire but you've got to be really careful doing this do not do this at home don't mess with petrol come on come on yeah nice nice yes good job that is so cool now we roast schmore's aka rat first of all we need to get the guts out okay knife i said just wait which way just just maybe that way yeah okay okay good okay so yeah that was fun [Applause] skinning and gutting a rat is never particularly fun so now fingers in there okay and we're pulling out all of those guts and to where the i'm a little bit sort of nervous because it's not entirely fresh so i'm gonna really make sure it's well cooked but generally rule of thumb if you cook it long enough you're going to kill the bad bacteria and it just tastes like it's been on the barbecue too long what is that dude it smells a bit old a little bit i feel the bones in my hand okay i mean you're in the wild you have to survive what else can you do okay it's not an animal it's just a thing that i'm eating great okay that's good now what do you do okay so now we're taking the header so that's what you wanna do in them okay so grab that bit oh god and then save it back please okay and there you go look you're left with one rat i've never done that before i mean i've no it was weird it was definitely weird with the little guts and the fingers and stuff so when you were a teenager did you always want to be an actress or a model or did you not really know as a teenager i wanted to always be in the entertainment industry because i knew that that's i was good at creating i liked to create perform it was something that scared me but it was an escape because i got to be other people yeah when i was a kid my mom dealt with a lot of you know depression and she's bipolar and manic depressive and um you know you add an addiction to that as well and it's just it becomes a very big it's a very hard cycle to get out of so what was her addiction what was she was a she was a heroin addict growing up with that i think i didn't really have a female i i mean apart from my older sisters i didn't really have a female role model who really was like showed me how to look after myself yeah you know i didn't know how to wash my hair properly or like to like wash my hands every time i went to the bathroom like really embarrassing stuff like that and what sort of things did you go through so for me i think i just i looked after everyone a lot i held in all my feelings and emotions you know whether it was like my mom being in a hospital nearly dying and i just held everything that happened holding things in no your mum like four or five there was just a lot like periods of time where i'd be in the hospital most times it was you know kind of blurry but at about seven i stopped eating that's when i started to not hurt myself but i would throw myself off things and i because i was so i i wanted to feel something that physical pain became quite yeah interesting to me because i couldn't feel emotionally and because i wanted an attention tube so when i would have a cast on my arm i i was able to be like asking for help for a reason and not because i needed emotional help yeah you wanted to be loved you know really just held that's it and then i just kept kind of going through life and then i just had a mental breakdown at 16 and i just lost it it just got to a tipping point and i just plummeted it was like it was the first time i really saw the light though like i really understood how messed up i was and how much i'd been holding everything in but it was also had no control over my thoughts feelings emotions my head was just my worst enemy every thought in my head was kill yourself kill yourself run away numb like just don't think feel it was just so horrible i was really i was so scared of myself that's why like i don't really have fear around i think it's the scariest thing in the world to me is my own head yeah and then success doesn't necessarily yeah so suddenly you haven't dealt with it but then you get successful and that doesn't solve anything it doesn't solve anything and you're kind of more alone but you're more should be more happy but i had no sense of who i was i had no identity all i had been was a mental illness a child a caretaker or a supermodel which just seemed so ridiculous to me yeah um so it was like my integrity my my morals everything was rotting like i just had nothing left because i honestly was just selling myself yeah because i wanted to belong and and i thought that like by people hiring me that that was giving me a sense of who i was what changed you what was the turning point for the better just through working on myself and and going away and doing these kind of like you know learning about trauma and doing stuff like this and doing things for myself you can't love yourself if you don't know who you are you know and i really didn't know who i was outside of work so i needed to figure that out yeah i look at you and hear your story and the thing that to me jumps out is you have a really big heart through it all your heart has always been big from your loving and looking after your mum and your loyalty and kindness there through to you know all your what you value now and your work and the relationships and stuff and that's your greatest asset you know cara was really honest in that chat and you know i knew she'd been through some battles but what's amazing is to see her come through that with such light really and it shines out of her face she's really figured out that life isn't about sort of you know fame or success or partying or drugs you know it's it's happiness is always rooted in great friendships and and love and loving people and learning to accept yourself the good and the bad and her journey was really inspiring to hear and what would you say to the 15 year old cara now i would say communicate more and to be more open about what you're going through because honestly if you can have any confidence to be confident in your own vulnerability is the best thing you can ever ask for you know kind of sitting with bears really made me realize how much i have grown up and how strong i am i think you're a strong remarkable lady thanks yeah youtube yeah um hopefully not a strong remarkable lady but i'll take it but you know one you've got one should you try some red oh wait let me can i have some hand sanitizer first okay should try some rat no cara delevingne and i are deep in the sardinian mountains we've made camp for the night and now it's time to eat uh well it's it's been well charred cheers oh no oh no the last rat i had was in the vietnamese jungle okay where it was all rotten apart from the head because the the brain are being sort of kept you know last thing to roll so i end up clicking the brain no this is a definite improvement we've got it two days ahead of my life now you're making me feel spoiled oh god is that all we have to eat now it wasn't a substantial meal how long look at its teeth dude yeah oh good job delicious to be honest it didn't taste that bad it was very chewy it was just the whole thing of like gutting it with my fingers first and then eating it not that soon after was a bit of a weird experience can i take off my harness now yeah i'm gonna do it while i'm doing it here you go let me you're right so now what do i do if i need to go for a poo it's always fun to be able to introduce people to my kind of golden top tips for defecating in the wild so this is the master class of how to take a crap in the wild right here they're us some different techniques number one is the lean 2 yeah that's a lean too i've been perfecting a lot of these kind of number two techniques for quite some time mine was always a lean on other lean on yeah an old favorite but you can of course go for the free solo what's that oh yeah yeah just my favorite though the kung fu method stop it that's a bit intense isn't it well the kung fu has dangers as well with the back of the boot you know on your right then you have the first date if you're with someone the first date is back to back shut up linking arms are we gonna do this later okay yeah but what if we poop on each other well you won't this is solid and good okay i was thinking more like a do you all know the second date yeah well the second date is when you know each other shut up [Laughter] i was also thinking something hanging upside down but then that would be good for the too anyway good luck bye oh mornings even nailed the acorn trick i did do i do i get that prize though oh he wants to go back to sleep good night sleep okay oh good morning sir hey you okay yeah very good kung fu done kung fu dan start a free solo when went to kung fu okay do you sleep okay very very good good okay so definitely a big day still ahead car bloody tissue in there that's from the rat thanks so we've still got a lot of travel to do today a lot of down we need to descend now okay okay so put the fire out and then we're out of here okay good leave the wrap the adventure is not over yet all i know is that we have quite a long way to go we've got to travel downstream i'm not sure it's always nice to get moving get warm kara and i have come a long way and we're less than three miles from our extraction point at the base of this mountain we've still got a lot of dangerous terrain to cover so we need to be vigilant as we begin the final push this is beautiful let's go this way good grip here be careful wow from here you can actually almost see wow our extraction point which is going to be around this gorge uh but first we're going to go straight down this oh god let's get down wow just watch yourself down here the train is getting steeper and really i just want to get down this when we get proper eyes on because my gut says this next bit is going to be steep use your hands yeah let's see where it's wet yeah here's another wet bit well done oh wow okay super careful on the edge here this is a long drop okay this one yeah maybe we just repel together off this i'm not entirely sure the rope is going to reach all the way to the bottom good good to know good to know can't really see how high up we are at this moment in time so i don't know i'm scared a little bit is good tiny tiny bit we've also got to get this rope to cure which is not going to be used with all this stuff i wonder if we use that uh like a little just in the backpack yeah that wrench we took off the oh yeah the scooter this guy yeah oh the end of the rope around this uh we could use that kind of like a grappling hook you know whether we just go for this into the pool try and get it jammed on one of these under these rocks so close we're getting there might take a few goes there we go well done put some weight into that and make sure that's absolutely strong that is good that's actually not going anywhere oh yeah wow so that's secure yeah and then we tie a second line to that nice over here down the waterfall but this is our last bit and then we're out this waterfall is 200 feet high the real danger though is at the halfway point where spray from the waterfall soaks the rock and my concern is that if kara lets go of her break hand where the rock gets really slick she could fall we're on single lines here yeah okay there's no backup on this for real great you are your own safety on this yeah whatever happens even if you're slick and fall don't let go okay you're good you're good so the things that i'm a little bit scared about is you know what we're tied to being the wrench in the water um and yeah that i am my own safety on this so it's all down to me when you're in the water slip this off with buoyancy inside it don't pull down on it okay okay we'll go side by side we are check chit chat going back okay here we go oh wow you ready i suppose so so the things that i'm scared about is you know what we're tied to being the wrench in the water um and yeah that i am my own safety on this so it's all down to me at least i have there next to me holding my hand but not really my hands on my rope okay let's go before i cry okay here we go i remember never letting go of that rope here we go game face on good job cara nice and steady oh wow oh okay nice and steady walk it down let that rope run a nice wide stance always looking where you're going where your feet's about to go this moss is so slippery oh god why it stands wide stance okay so we're getting closer to the waterfall here it's just a natural so the rock is going to get a lot slippery so whatever happens right hand never comes off yep okay here we go oh god keep it coming all right yeah come down to me come down to my level my god okay hold it there okay okay so what we're gonna do we're gonna go down fast together come next to me yeah whoa okay we're gonna go down we're just going to let the rope run through the system yeah then we'll be free backpack off good strong swim out it's going to be ultimately cold my going to be in my throat am i going to be around my neck let's do it one two three here we go that's it well done nice great job when you just get into that water just you can't breathe that is the way to wake up in the morning i'm actually proud of myself that's pretty high so i'm yeah i'm really happy i'm definitely awake now so that's good you ready i'm sorry i'm so ready oh my god so from here we're both cold that water was baltically cold but we're in it we're through it we're out of it and we're heading down now i've got that mirror that we took from the scooter i'm gonna use that to try and reflect the sun signal the helicopter and then we are officially out of here mirror reflecting onto there and you'll see that from tens of tens of miles away so as soon as we hear the chopper give him a flash and hopefully he'll spot us hopefully bear just wanted to say thank you so much honestly this has been a dream come true it's changed me a lot [Music] there we go chopper thank you for helping me appreciate the finer things and just realizing what's important and i've this has been honestly one of the best experiences of my life i do it again yeah 100 karat had a hard start in life and you know she had to grow up fast but the thing is she's learned to adapt and to improvise and to learn from difficult things and get stronger and she also has this infectious tenacious never give up spirit that and a survivor takes people a long way and cara you go you're only just getting going you're amazing guard enemies [Music] you
