good morning guys I'm Sam with Scrappy Industries on today's episode we're going to check out a biseri 22b shovel I don't know a lot about this thing I guess it's been sitting for a while never was used much by this place this is the same company where the Northwest 25s came from that Gino and I picked up supposedly it's a later model military machine but it's been sitting for some time let's go check it out maybe we'll be able to try to get it running I don't know I will take the tools I have with me and the pickup up and some batteries and hopefully we have time we could try to get it started but I really don't know how this day is going to play out so stay tuned let's go check it [Music] out and here she is what a sweetheart this thing is sweet this is a military 22b with the cumin in I think they're the J series cumin which you don't see many of those have Adam I lock yeah if you looks like a cumins that's cool tell what this machine was yeah 475 I think it says on that tag I didn't miss it far then I thought it was a little lighter but all well I wonder oh look this is saying cuz that's that's a 7,300 lb counterweight on there saying Che maybe get in here yellow struggling a bit with the locks but we got one open [Music] and it is the J series cumings tumblers are in real good shape he's adjusted out a little bit way up in here busting into a shovel bud I'm just B those Master locks are good can't believe they don't have they make it look easy in the movies yeah's lockpicking lawyer when you need them yeah yeah a lock picker I want oh you did spray it with oil I say is it just stuck yeah so we've got crawled around the one rear hatch that we could get in Dan's trying to hammer US Open over there everything else is working for locks and we can't get this in so this one Matt did you turn the power on at all to see if we have any action not ready 12 Vols of 24 imagine 2 well there's only military cuz I think these would have been those two military Square battery thing always 24 yeah um I got no signs of Life on your jump it was okay last night well I got nothing right it did you sh it on 12 by chance there we go now you got to go to 24 I don't know soon we go to 24 you got TR it on 12 we we don't have anything here I think we're going to have to just put it straight on the starter if nothing else but why are we not getting interesting how they did all the conduit and everything like you said really nice it's got lights and everything in there well there's a tachometer in here like it's like pretty much mint all the gauges are intact this see like a truck clear backup light for your cab light above your head here can see oh we got a door even rolls nice wrap it up wrap it up no I don't want to to rep place a J series coming you're not exactly easy to find wonder how we could at least get something on it and see if we could turn it trying to give her the ultimate bypass can almost get there with the connector not quite yeah the master the master switch was definitely just going to ground here well it's even got The Ether injection package do we have a start button package or what ready yeah you know what we do have life now the low oil pressure lights on nothing nothing of the go variety though got a screwdriver we're trying to get a socket rigged up on the crankshaft on the damper here just so we can try to see if it's free the Young that order them on Amazon I guess oh Bud oh she's free I'm sure it just needs to set of batteries up well it's not even acting like we're giving it power he's got the like the lights are coming on up in the cabin now but it's not even trying to spin the star I mean if we ran back out to my pickup I have two group 31s in the adapters we can actually hook it up well if Mr Dan doesn't care I don't all oh no no water perfect the old jump pack really letting us down here so we're resorting to more amperages we have our jumper and our adapter kits for these St or we could just unbolt that even man but either way it'll go that seems like that's going to be stuck I mean I am kind of at the point where like I don't want to really buy a whole lot more of this stuff but at the same token why not no hear me out like until I get done like I I am overwhelming myself it's just sitting around but the other thing is like these guys are scrapping it's not going to be here for forever no running Northwest AR are not everything no where you going to find that so we got our batteries hooked up here let's see if we can contact you stealing my catchphrases over there what channel are we on what channel are we on the Big John lawnmower Channel too much you're moving the truck in the pit and the dust leaves your wheels you're shut down are you kidding me that's the way it works so where they got you supposed to be set up with a water truck all the time or what well we don't we hire a guy with salt water man mon oil well why salt water huh why salt water just the brine that they make it the well well it holds the dust down better than straight water that's interesting they're paying to get rid of it so you might as well charge them yeah it don't work out to get it down well let's fire this thing up huh let's see what happens our disconnect on there we go something clicked yeah I heard something wo it spit out of bird nest like 20 feet that was way too easy that was way too easy I'm not sure if it's trying to run away so I kind of killed it cuz that should have been idle maybe just backwards well I'm try it the other [Music] [Applause] way so the fuel rack might be stuck or something low is forward which is the way I would expect on the other 22b oh well it does run yeah what sticks in a PT pump though think I don't know what the heck's going on in a PT pump STI all do we just let her run up on the governor and hope it doesn't scatter the fuel gauge even works no fuel gauge works half tank full tank uh like a quarter it bumps it bumps up from empty from yeah well I got I got eaten with dust in here when I oh you should just I'm glad I took a recording in the back I got a shot stuff out of there I don't want Idol yeah it seems like it wants to give her all of it I can't believe how it started though like you shut it off yesterday yesterday yeah it's been set for several years BR that thing down is it hooked up no it's it's moving the I can see it moving the lever on the pump you want something to tap on the pump yeah if I crawl down in there with the drums is probably or yeah it's about your only way you want Hammer h no I see cuz that's like a hydraulic or you know this is a weird govern it's different than a truck governor on that PT pump maybe a governor issue Governor give a little tap tap Taro calibration here brought to you by area diesel services this is how they do it I think right I don't even know what I'm hitting hey you hit something let's try ready yep man I thought you had it I know it seems slightly better hey uh which so it set the full thrott or low throttle right now right should be set to idle right now and that's that that should be idle right there I'm pulling back on it it's not going anymore oh wait it might have gone just touch more but still even if it went that a little bit I hear you bit I don't know hello I wondered if you tapped on it while it started running with that H while I'm going on your head and I'll hit it the only thing slightly concerning to me is I swear as I'm shutting it off we're losing how fast it shuts down yeah that's not good oh there goes mouse out of the air cleaner should have checked out poor little guy is mad prob been sucked up against the air cleaner about 20 every time he thought he was going to get away I wonder if that would do it if it's restric in air would it pull more fuel no it's not gas I mean I wouldn't think so either but I'm just thinking out loud here so obviously it does run it would be awesome if we could get it running controllably so we could try to move it and see if it'll walk and things like that but we're calling it a wind so far uh near that so working on this pump is proving to be difficult Matt has figured out to stand from the ground in this nice little hole it's the only way to get there from here I can actually turn in here too look at that how you doing how you doing all right well I don't know what to tell you at this point I mean we made it run it does run I'm sure Curtis yeah Curtis we'll call him get that figured out can we um maybe snap a couple picks of this gva set up on that PT pump while we're in there I you can probably do that better night yeah I'll lay back in here and get some pictures so we can edicate ourselves on how it works I can't raise my that Cable's minty yeah galvanized I like how they have this window on these kind too mine just has that tin door you can open up which I welded solid oh what because it was gone and yeah mine's still pretty mint oh it's got the keeper on the top of the shs too I need kind of mangled you can make that yeah I just never did do a lot of things need a little shimmy in the stick she's a little wobbly it must been run a bit then the house is in pretty good shape just a little red R Us there huh I guess you can hook up 24 volts right there I'm not a military expert do you like better the [Music] northwestwest always like it's alive see if we can get any movement Sam's trying to use the bucket to help push himself out of this hole I think all he's doing is digging a hole hey go forward it'll be back in the hole there's bricks behind here [Applause] we move some bricks I think we'll get it [Music] it moves wrap it up we'll take it [Music] [Music] wrap it up I like it you tighten that clutch yeah you tighten that clutch it'll be a good thing we good right here you think I don't see why not starts up easy enough shut her down I can't believe how easy this thing started and moved wait you see The Rat's Nest that blew out the back I'm telling you it there's a bird's nest actually still got an egg in it look the lights even work like the panel lights do the overhead ones work man that is sweet is there anything on the outside or no no about the skirt underneath there no idea sweet that isy shut her down push button shoveling another day another shovel pickup we're just up here on the 22b now that it's running good and we're going to get her loaded up take it home hopefully and do a little petting on it right [Music] he the wet line Dr so now we just got to let the truck air up I'm going to take a couple quick measurements to see how our Center spacing is and where I think the center of gravity is on this thing in the truck and the trailer [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] slidey slidey [Music] [Music] so one of the nice things biseri did on these is all five of your frictions on this machine are the exact same lining so these two here are the swingers and the travels so this is travel forward which would also be swing left this is travel backwards which is pull the lever backwards which is also be swing right the Hoist band is right inside of this is the hardest one to get to on these machines and especially so with this house I don't know if you guys noticed but on these military houses like this they have these shorter doors whereas the regular style 22bs like my machine it has full height doors that open out and then you can stand there on the catwalk easily get in so I'm not sure why they made these smaller but the military machines like this one the entire sheet metal is all different I think the whole thing is actually taller I was looking added on mine it kind of bumps up above the operator but this one I think is that same height the whole way so thought that's pretty neat but all in all the whole house on this machine is different see if we can get up in here to the Hoist clutch you kind of got to get curled up and cozy with it but this so this guy down here is our hoist clutch this is the Hoist brake because as you can see here that's the Hoist cable but it's the exact same size as the swingers and the two crowd clutches were on which are on the other side so while we're up here that a little oil that a little oil that a little oil that guy there let's get her all lubed up over here on the back side of the engine this is the master clutch linkage so I'm just going to squirt some oil down on all those pretty much anything with a pin and a yolk that moves and needs oil I'll come back with a grease Gun there's a grease fitting here there's the pilot bearing here may need to pull that cover off and check if there's anything else inside the clutch where that little lever arm is down in the bottom I don't know how well this is going to show up but there's a grease fitting on that where it changes it to be in vertical so as we dip down here underneath the operators area you can see just how many the bottom of every lever in front of the operator and then these are our brake pedals here these are the Springs to pick them back up I can see we've had a nice little repair done over there with some Bor wire but all those yolks and pins they all need oil can treatment [Music] [Music] well if you're curious about what the jaw clutches look like underneath here while it's steering I am too let's set up the camera and check it out so this whole linkage assembly here moves back and forth when you move that one steering lever up top and there's a jaw clutch like this on each side that whole collar moves on the spline which disengages the drive and then locks up the chain so it can steer hard and you have five positions you kind of have an intermediate easy steer just disconnected but not locked and then you can pull it farther like you normally do locks up the track so I'd like to try to remedy the situation of pulling the steering clutch back which steers us to the left as we're going normal direction that is this adjustment here for our left track on this side of the machine so this pulls in which engages that which so this pulls in which disengages the drive and engages the lock we can't see the lock it's underneath this cover so the shot you just saw that is showing disengaging the track so we basically need to just do that a little bit sooner so the lever isn't smashing into the console before it actually steers so we're going to shorten this Rod here I believe is what we want to do to try to get this steering working properly so this is the crowd retract clutch and this is allowing me to show you how pulling that lever back pushes this linkage in which basically pushes out you know forcing out on this Friction band here when the main clutch is in and the engine's running all this Machinery is turning this is the drum which is actually connected by Chain so this drum is the retract drum this drum is our crowd out drum they're connected by a chain this Machinery turns backwards and this Machinery turns forwards so depending on which one you have engaged depend decides the direction that this is going to move then there's another chain you can see up here it runs to the drum on the bottom of the boom and it's either pulling on the crowd out cables or pulling on the retrack cable to control the crowd sliding in and out so when we pull back on this lever that's engaging our retract clutch you can see all this linkage pushes in that's where I was mentioning oiling all the these points make such a huge difference because it's all adding up so even if there's just a little bit of resistance if it all has a little bit of resistance it's going to make your life a lot harder to pull this lever when we pull that back it's pulling out on this Friction band here and because the Machinery is already turning when you engage this friction it's trying to get the drum to turn that way as well this is our brake band out here which will work with our Left Foot Right now I know we need to tighten the brake up I think we might need to tighten this retrack clutch up a little bit as well but that's just kind of a gist of how it works so we got the actual bucket for this 22b but as you can probably see it is very very worn out I don't know if we actually want to change this thing or not I'm going to send a couple pictures to Chris see what he thinks my vote right now is we just keep that Marion bucket that it has I feel that this bucket kind of matches the shovel front and you can see the severe wear out here on the teeth and our main Edge this tooth is actually pretty much worn through this thing needs a lot of welding some new teeth overall just a lot of work the whole door is the whole door back here is more or less cracked out as you can see it's just pretty well whooped I [Music] [Music] check out these sweet military batteries if you haven't seen these before I haven't in real life I've only seen them when Clint puts them in the old military units but they are massive these cost a little bit more than your standard group 31 but I can see why because they are a very Stout unit the reason I got these is cuz well that's what our battery trays already set up for I thought it was the easy correct answer let's get them slung in there loosen this guy up not happy Bob I never did open this magical box oh stinks though in Mouse House in there I think that was the bathroom let Weir out so as I'm putting the seat up here I realized what this guy is now we don't have to be such a low rider so much better warmed up for a little oil change this little hole convenient this is how we change the oil kind of have this access hole down here in the bottom you can just go pop right in here on the front side of the engine so this makes total sense but I didn't know it was a thing there's a military standard full oil filter element and this is it so there's our Purolator number I think that'll lead us into getting a new one from Nappa I need two of those guys that's [Music] convenient pink sky at night Sailor's Delight well in case you were wondering what the oil filter comes out to it's a Napa 1133 the fuel filter I had to measure I couldn't find any numbers on it and I came up with a 3512 Nappa number let's see if that works looks right think we did okay there so there's two fuel filters two oil filters normally you would have like two different Micron fuel filters for your primary and secondary but I couldn't find anything close to this number with these dimensions a lot of times NAA Wix number it'll be like 352 3513 but those ones were most shorter going to 13 and 11 so we're going to put two of these in it'll work for the amount of hours a year this thing's going to run but in the meantime let's get her filled up with some new oil this is not mobile this is sonoko in a delvac jug cuz I have the sonoko and drums now and I will tell you that I feel that if it meets the specs oil truly is oil as long as it's somewhat of a name brand that you do feel you can trust that they are meeting the specs list but I just keep reusing these jugs over and over and over cuz you're not always in the shop where you can wheel up the air pump and the drum right up to what you're doing such as this boy C had the right idea with this big oil fill if only we knew what weight of oil we should be putting in here though but ironically as much information as they gave you on what oil needs to go in it they never obviously tell you how much which is kind of inconvenient it had almost 10 gallons in it which I thought was excessive looking at the pan and it may have been that excessive we're above the high Mark but those oil filters will hold a fair bit I think that's good enough for now well Otis we got all our filters back in didn't we so the filters are all installed again next task is to figure figure out how to bleed the fuel filters so we can get this thing started again there's no hand primer pump or anything like that and that's a whole lot of empty space on the suction side of the pump all right so this is my plan to Prime the fuel filters fortunately we have power out here we got this little air compressor can see that or stretching air hose all the way from the shop or I really need a gas powered air compressor in my mini service truck we'll get there we'll get there but anyway we're going to put air in the tank I'll put the fill cap back in I took the Breather off up here so we can push air into that and I took that line loose that comes between the filters and the PT fuel pump so way these pumps work there's just a gear pump in there pulling the fuel in and then they maintain a certain pressure that's how they control the fuel delivery on these if you're curious how they work or how they're calibrated watch area Diesel's video where they did Matt's pump for the auto car went pretty in depth it's the same it's the same fuel system on these J series the PT which is pressure time basically each injector has an orifice so the more pressure over that time the more fuel you get in the injector and then the injector just pushes in whatever's there that's the short of it anyway so it's not really a conventional injection pump per se cumin was the only one doing it like that it's kind of a very early low press common rail mechanical injector if you will but let's get this thing capped off put a little pressure in the tank and see what happens I think we might need to add some fuel too I don't think there's much in the tank it's pushing out a little bit out of that line this is going to happen until it starts pushing more it'll bleed a bunch of air and then fuel will come out I think we're there I'm going to give it a little throttle just so if it catches hopefully it'll power through some air well she started all right that's what I recommend for no will pressure well at least she got oil pressure this pump is finicky well I guess we're going to Prime her again so on the supply line there is a check valve here so once we push fuel up into the filters it should stay there no matter what I don't think it would take this much to get through the fillers I did a little more priming let's see how that turns out round two woo going to pump some gear oil up into that main case Mighty pump [Music] here there we go so really our only way of checking this is with that check plug and I believe there's a connection on the bottom between this case and the center case [Music] so this is the primary reduction between the engine and all the other machinery and it's just a roller chain one of the multi-link roller chains and it just takes regular engine oil for lubricant that's the drain plug on the case up on the side you can see the check plug so it really does not take much just dips through it on the way by I thought this side would be easier but I think I'm wrong it's easier for filming purposes and that's all that really matters all right we're there we have our handy dandy stick grease here don't want to use any nice expensive tubes of Grease [Music] let's get it loaded up for our final destination [Music] like it so I'm just taking a look at kind of where our Center ended up on the trailer I had to permit this heavier on the trium of the trailer than the tandem of the truck just to make it through all the states so I think I left 38,000 on the truck Tandem and about 50,000 on the trium back here on the trailer so what that means is we need to favor more weight on the trailer axles than the truck axles obviously to make up that difference so I'm going to get hooked up take a quick measurement this is the first load really with this trailer we got to get her figured out and see how our weight distribution looks I don't yet have air pressure gauges on the trailer bags and the truck bags I think that'd be very helpful for sit ation like this at least get you a rough idea of what your axle weights are and then probably go to one of those real little scale things I don't think they're super expensive to put on the trailer that'd be a nice thing to have all righty we got her all chained down flagged up signed up let's hit the road hope the old caterpillar stays glued together on our 500 Mile ride to Raleigh stay tuned let's get her going so on 79 here in West Virginia they have construction down the one lane so we have to get off and go on this little roundabout sort of way to get around that construction sour permit had us going I'm glad I took some time to look at the map before leaving cuz this is weird and I've never been here that's the bridge they're working on if we couldn't cross well I'm sure we could hope only about 20 P of heavy but don't want to get caught here's the New River Gorge think this might be tough to see over I can take all of our shovels on a sightseeing adventure to their new home world's largest AR [Music] [Music] this is some of the fun of driving somewhere you don't really know but having these directions of a permit that you have to follow or it'll be off Route you can get in trouble for that because your GPS won't take you the way this permit will so Gino has a good ide idea of just making an app that can actually read every state perment and give you a GPS direction so if anyone out there is very smart good app developer cool opportunity I think a lot of people would pay for well it was a bit of a late night last night but we were on location anything look familiar the Ford is now a North Carolina girl well what do you think it doesn't say Volvo on the side take it back maybe they bought them oh that's what that's where it came from yeah the Volvo shovel line missed that in the tour I was talking to Mike yeah she's a beauty in really good shape yeah it is I like it what's his first project uh we're going to go over there we got to move some junk out of the way first and uh we're going to take that pile of dirt and we're going to move it over about 20 ft perfect and then we're going to make a mess and then maybe we can find one of these other machines to push it back into a pile we can use this and the drag line to shuffle it along yeah and then maybe you can look at something on the drag line that doesn't work and maybe fix it for me and I'll buy you lunch and we'll all be happy perfect let's get her unloaded oh this is going to be exciting so I'm going to go get two rubber mats because I remember when we undid the drag line unloaded the drag line doesn't look like much of a taper but that like two Ines of taper Steel on steel always comes this way y you get exciting but we like exciting exciting do you uh do you need some blocks or you got I have blocks yeah we'll put some blocks here and then just a little bit of rubber there cuz the flat steel tracks on the Steel trailer definitely does it be a little slippery I don't know what they were thinking back in the day yeah I mean I could put a couple little that's all they needed was two of those on there I don't know they have enough trouble steering as it is I think that's part of it that's probably why all right let me go grab those mats go [Music] [Music] oh we're going for it have you done that before and away we go that thing sounds really good the bones are what they say the bones are good the bones are very good on this unit Bon are very very good hey Matt just use that patina stuff on his Jeep maybe it'll liven this right up all these are you know rough spots from bullet holes where maybe to start shooting at it you can add to it that's probably what it was shotgun hit it there one time and then it so Chris is going to play with the shovel a little bit we're going to walk the drag line up there to the pile and try it out we were able to spend some time this morning fixing the house lock on this unit ended up being a couple hour Endeavor I thought would be much easier like everything I suppose get those doors secured we'll leave that open for a little more air flow fortunately we got some rain cooled things off because uh it is hot down here in North Carolina compared to Pittsburgh weather they're not lineing we got about 100% humidity and it was supposed to be 95 today but now we're probably only in the 80s after the rain so much appreciated let's go drag lining [Music] [Music] Chris is going to give her a whirl now let's see what he's [Music] [Music] got I thing sounds good [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] [Music] hurry well what do you think of your new rig man look at her she just Blends right in can't even see it after about 7:30 she's going to disappear but I like like it for my 20 minutes of operating experience I'm starting to get you're picking it upy fast picking it up a lot better than I did with your shovel up there in Pennsylvania after about the third was line yeah it has no crowd break or anything it's like a different animal yeah I realized that after the third time we put the cable back on I said you you can just run that this is yours so we had a 22b fill day and they're both still running at the end of it and that's really what I would call a success I'm just Happ it's about that time guys I hope you enjoyed this one getting her running haul down here visit Chris let's dig 18 check out his video on this shovel and I'm sure it will be posted before this one probably so and uh you have a safe drive home you you got a few miles to put under you yeah we're like what eight hours I got to go pick up a loader and then I'm headed back North to Pennsylvania so back hul Backle up it's going to be a long night make it work have a good one be safe see you guys
