Can the Rivian R1T Handle Serious Off-Roading? See The Answer For Yourself in This NEW Video!

[Music] hi everybody Riven has not coincidentally decided to release some brand-new footage of the r1t pickup truck on the same day that Ford is revealing its brand-new f-150 now of course the ribbing is all electric and so far there's not a single one actually on the road but this company has been building up a ton of hype and that continues with this footage of the Rivia gnar 1/t pickup truck tackling some serious off-road obstacles we're in the middle of the desert in Arizona at a proving grounds that allows us to explore the limits of this vehicle both on-road and offroad we try to subject it to the harshest terrain possible so we can understand what works and what doesn't [Music] [Music] [Music] what you might consider punishing it off-road but you know we're learning we're taking all that data in and constantly developing making it better on-road and offroad [Music] [Music] up until now we haven't seen this ribbon tackle any serious offroading like this so first of all it hits this high-speed off-road track and then you can see doing some pretty serious rock crawling and I think one of the things we can take away from this is how the four-wheel drive system will work in both situations you can see all four wheels are getting Drive and that is not thanks to a locking differential the ribbing here actually has four electric motors one for each wheel so each wheel can essentially be controlled independently giving it a ton of configurations when it comes to torque vectoring and then of course simulating a locker because each wheel will have its own drive motor oh and the quad motor setup also enables this the tank turn now let me run down the specs for you on this rivey and r1t just to remind you what we are dealing with here so riffian says that this truck has a wheelbase of 135 point 8 inches a total width of 79 point 3 inches and an overall length of 217 point 1 inches there will be three different powertrains available with the ribbon but the most powerful version will be rated at 750 horsepower and combine the motor torque of 829 pound-feet now when we're talking about angles this vehicle has an approach angle of thirty four point eight degrees and a departure angle of thirty point five degrees while the breakover angle comes in at twenty five point seven degrees maximum ground clearance can go up to fourteen and a half inches and I say go up because the Rivia does have air suspension so it will be able to lift up its body now in off-road mode the ribbing is supposed to be able to Ford through forty two point seven inches of water towing capacity for the ribbon is pegged at eleven thousand pounds those off-road numbers are massively impressive and combined with the capability of the four motor electric powertrain this Rivi ensured be something special but of course we haven't actually seen one out in the field yet none have been sold and we haven't been able to drive one now this truck was supposed to hit the road and actually be in people's driveways by the end of 2020 but now it's looking like the r1t will actually go on sale in 2021 but due to global circumstances right now that timing really is unclear well we can say for sure though is the electric pickup truck wars are heating up of course this is the Rhydian we just gotten a new announcement from Lordstown motors we know Ford is working on the all-electric f-150 the all-electric Hummer is out there somewhere hopefully it's going to be debuting soon so yes guys there's tons of electrified truck news coming and we're gonna do our best to cover it all here at TfL so that's it for this one make sure you come back to the channel for more on this Riven and of course while you're down below leaving a comment make sure you hit like hit subscribe and then come back to TfL offroad for the latest news views and real world reviews
