we have decided to mount five security cameras in and around our camper van one facing forward like a dash cam two on either side one at the back and one internal so we can check up on millie whenever we'd like we'll be able to access these cameras from our phones so if we're out on a hike or away from the van for a bit we can check to see what's going on both inside and around us it's also amazing for overnight if you hear voices you can see if it's the cops if it's other campers or someone suspicious today we're installing cameras and also an antenna so that means not only will we have a booster but we'll also have wi-fi in our van you ready for it [Music] i essentially bought five of these cameras i think these are five megapixel they have night vision and they are pretty small they are pov so i can power them over ethernet and they have memory card slots so i can have 24 7 surveillance recorded footage five memory cards i bet it on 128 gigs so we'll see how far that will take me for all of this to happen i need switch that supports pov and i'm hoping to plug this one to 48 volt systems straight it's time to 3d print some housing for that because one definitely needs to be covered from the back and two from the side these will be challenging the front one's going to be facing forward behind the windshield so we actually are not catching any flies on that when driving [Music] this is pretty sophisticated because it's angling down and then i'm finding the position of actually the camera and the 3d print not being in its way i have 50 meters of utp cable here and this is my first prototype that's the camera wire to the cable so it gives me all the flexibility to be actually checking angles because that's the most important thing this is exactly the angle it needs to show me as much of the environment as possible while capturing the lower part of the frame the back door that is exactly what i need so now i can move forward with my designs [Music] cool [Music] definitely protecting all the metal properly with the paint [Music] this is sick of likes so i hope it won't let me down i am absolutely thrilled with this beautiful building experience this is crazy good pretty smart to have some system of testing at the very beginning as the first thing because throughout the process of building such a stuff you can always be checking what's going on do you want to see what surprise i have for you yeah whoa that looks so good isn't that amazing and you can zoom in everything that's sick okay last check i think the footage looks pretty good and the angle is final great now lottie is finalizing the internal connections for our cameras using the wires that we have prepped during the wiring phase a few videos back these cameras were picked based on a few demands we wanted them as small as possible with memory card slots and pov powered these are also waterproof and have night vision hello hello hello camera is officially why doesn't look inside got it plugged in look at that so cool [Music] okay so the reason why i didn't want an external recording device like a server with a hard drive and constantly recording the surveillance footage i didn't want that because that's extra big hardware that would be drawing my limited power because everything is going to be powered out of battery i'm so much more aware of the power consumption so that's exactly the same reason why i don't want to be running extra 12 volt and extra data connector so that's why i use pov that is power over the ethernet i i believe it means so essentially all of this footage should stay in the camera up until i ask for it up until i try to load it from there or if i want to connect over my phone and see what is happening there other than that there is not even any transmission of data like uploading the footage on a server externally that would be constantly draining my data bit of a hustle to get the seal in but these are waterproof ip65 cameras made for outdoor use so i'm not worried about having any leakage or not lasting me a long time if i install the seal well [Music] i'm ready to install the front facing camera but first i need to see where it's even pointing i really hope we're gonna see forward all the time even when we put a curtain down when we cover it and when driving and i hope this angle this placement is going to work out well for us and then the wire is going straight up and everything can be plugged there so that is attached right now to the very back of the secondary shelf that's directly above our heads when we're driving so that's on the passenger side in news the audience may care about we now have three cats visiting this location for food each day if we ever catch them they're getting neutered immediately but we can't get close wow that looks cool wow that has a big range that's a good wide angle can i actually screw it in just like that and then this is the last missing one this is a massive connector for such a subtle little signal wires that is hilarious okay and now i have it accessible here under the shelf just in case i ever need to do any maintenance or replacement [Music] the side camera is pretty tricky because that needs to be covered from the top from the rain and also from the front obviously when driving so that needs to be some kind of organic shape and obviously needs to be as low as possible so it doesn't look ridiculous from the side from the side like two side eyes i have multiple stages of development here this is essentially just a contour to have a raw estimation raw shape what i need this is kind of a before i started scaling the shape of the whole housing and here you can see transparent three blocks this is reshaped you can see it's narrower this is obviously supposed to be representing the camera how it's supposed to go in and this block that's only the cutout that i did later right here pretty raw i would say quick modeling this is incredible raw product like i didn't even do supports i knew this is gonna bridge over and then i just trimmed it and then it's supposed to i'm pretty sure go like this camera is gonna be covered inside partially and then i have the angle adjustable this way and because this is sitting on the side of a vent so it depends how i glue it where it's gonna point this is the second prototype for my cover i found it interesting to show you how bridging looks like so normally i would be 3d printing supports so the filament has something to be laid on but in this prototype phase is just much faster and doesn't consume too much filament so look at that how it bridges from the left to the right i found it fascinating to get to this particular model i had to begin with this raw shape that i started playing with the attachment but this was massive for the camera so i scaled it down created some sort of attachment for the camera housing you can see this is a no supports quick three hour print and then i started actually shaping some cover up from driving forward and from the rain from the top so it actually sits in a little bit more inside nicely see how deep it goes that's much more protected from the top and from the side [Music] and by the way i 3d printed a template as well essentially i just copied this surface and pasted it on a on a flat two-dimensional template then i just printed eight layers to have certain stiffness [Music] now that the design of the side cameras is done the only thing left to do is install them however the installation will be happening at the exact same time that lady installs our new antenna with our wi-fi and our signal booster big part of these security cameras are obviously lte signal because that's our only source of the internet no internet no cameras so we actually had to leave multiple locations when camping before because we didn't have a good enough lte signal i know i know modern problem people but we work online we rely on our income to be online so unfortunately some of the locations just because of a signal were not meant to be for us this time we're making one extra step because we're installing lte router so in any country outside of european union we can just replace a sim card find a better deal and move on still have a wi-fi this router has one wi-fi antenna and the other one lte antenna and i figured why wouldn't i just unscrew it and use external antenna outside of the van instead of this small one inside of a metal shell isn't this amazing there's a lot of different antennas you can see these would actually fit pretty well our style and our van how beautifully they look but there is a big but you can actually see that these would gain around 3 or 2 dbi that is essentially how sensitive these antennas are to be receiving signal higher the number better the chances my option was this specific one look at that that that has one of the best uh sensitivities that's between five and nine and it means it receives signal from all around not just a certain direction so i think this will be pretty amazing 4g lte antenna just arrived this definitely will have much better signal than an antenna inside of my phone [Music] that is a nifty little magnet for a different project this little bracket i shaped yesterday quickly before i went home when i was problem solving how to actually attach that antenna to the side of the car so it's pointing up i definitely need to stay under three meters which is like a reasonable limit for all the bridges and actually my new garage door too it is pretty reasonable question for sure whether to 3d print this bracket or not but when i feel it when i feel it in my hands how heavy it is and how big a lever we have on such a big length then this 3d printed bracket seems to be pretty brave to do so that's why i decided to just do aluminum i know it's gonna have the proper stiffness it won't rip off with a sun degradation and everything i think this is much better and that obviously will be just covered with a 3d printed cap before i even get to the installation of that antenna i already have 3d printed copper box for it [Music] we need to get on the road quickly because millie is so bored of house life she climbs everything uh uh that's glass oh no that's okay oh great i didn't go higher get in it's all gonna shatter and that's gonna be the night [Music] he's not [Music] and that ladies and gentlemen is a kitten climber wow that is pretty incredible how wide range is gonna capture i still see the mirror that's amazing because then in that case i have the most vulnerable space that is most commonly broken the triangle window and then i see pretty far at the back essentially covering the whole side of the van this is exactly where the template becomes incredibly handy because i mainly need internal shape so i can cut a massive hole for the connector never missing a detail [Music] over the top amount of sophistication that's what it is that nobody you don't see many people doing this craziness there was an opportunity obviously to use rivets here but i rather use the really wide washer just in case because this is a big lever with a wind and driving and everything you never know i didn't really want to be relying on a glue only to hold a bracket and hold the whole camera so i actually left these three holes for bolts to bolt it from the other side so that actually creates kind of a extra support to hold it together just in case it's going to be warping with the sun a little bit it still is mechanically attached to the car itself and then the glue essentially works as a seal only and because this sickaflex is so flexible specifically used for this purpose i'm not expecting many problems and i know many people don't use 3d prints outside and i'm willing to take the risk if it doesn't work out i can always replace it and be a little bit more experienced it may look sunny out but it is negative two degrees so it is cold but this is the exact reason why lottie did not insulate the side of the overhead for these cameras [Music] always the second i can install goes much faster when i have all the tools out and i've done it before nailing it obviously shaping and filing all of that i don't want to be risking any of these wires to be scratched or cut through so everything nice and smooth then obviously paint protected and then i'm from inside i'm always mammoth gluing the wire itself so it doesn't vibrate doesn't shake and doesn't cut through last stage you might see these rubber bands these just hold the camera in place exactly where i want it to be aiming because i'm actually gluing it in with few bobs of mammoth go classic [Music] let the crimping begins yay [Music] cam high profile that's the dad's name that's weird i downloaded the app for cameras and um i can just go to plus ip camera add new device device news scan qr code easy confirm let's do the same thing with the back one this this is going to be another one but that's gonna go after panels so for now i'm only scanning the the camera outside confirmed so now i have all four cameras that's pretty cool now i can just change the password as a part of the security process excuse me nice same thing with this and now i should be able to see for the first time look from the old installed cameras nice okay that's frosty that's a frosty window okay let's see the other one that might be better okay perfect that's great that's pretty cool what do we have image adjustment brightness contrast that's cool mirror flip image that's important sometimes press with this all should have intelligent tracking intelligent tracking is on that's cool then it's going to be recognizing people and notifying me if i want to that's pretty cool what do we have in settings here change alarm management and notification that's pretty cool receive all around push sure monitor detect alarm audible alarm that's cool humanoid alarm star one humanoid recognition alarm capture on sd card absolutely recording to sd absolutely that's that's so cool that looks like a pretty cool advanced ad allowing me a lot of settings okay and then let's see how user-friendly it is just go full screen immediately bang this is a nice nice view let's see the side ones oh i'm still gluing them on i did it afternoon yesterday but i'll keep it overnight just in case [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] came to film the outro and look who's here this will make such a big difference especially for me when we were traveling in our last van there were instances where a lottie would go for a week at a time and i did solo female van life in croatia and greece and turkey for two weeks and it was nerve-wracking when i'd hear guys around and i wouldn't want to get up because that moves the van and then they know someone is inside so the idea that i could be lying in bed and check my phone to see who it is like is it the cops is it someone i should get a move on and like start moving it's just so relaxing from the female perspective to know exactly what is going on outside of your van even i would have access actually from my phone and i'll be able to check if you're okay if you're not picking up my phone call exactly i've never modeled anything this sophisticated like these shapes i had to learn completely new techniques how to handle this organic modeling but i'm very very pleased with the result the camera is beautifully covered from the top and from the front when driving and raining so i think that should last much longer plus it's ip65 so that's going to withstand any of these freezing days and and any kind of a humidity and then these abs have really really cool settings like you can see it's tracking human in a shot i can schedule recording overnight only motion and i just have notifications notifying me about movement or humans only and it's just incredible that i can recall anytime even history of all the motion from every single camera so even like instances when somebody scratches your car on a parking lot i always have access to all of this footage that's really cool and that lte antenna is definitely much bigger and stronger than the one we have in the phones and that's going to be actually receiving signals so we can have a wi-fi inside and also it's going to be sending me the signal from the cameras so on the underside of the world i can always see and have access to what is going on around my van and in my van that's my van thank you very much for following this whole build i try to capture as much information as possible so you guys can duplicate the same things and improve on the top of my designs we have covered every detail of this conversion so far and if you haven't seen what we have done up until this point you should make sure to check out our playlist we have a full 23 episodes of every single step now that the overhead sidings can be covered with insulation there's a whole new phase that needs to be addressed so [Music] you
