this video was sponsored by skillshare so going through the comments section on the part one build of my ford transit connect the number one question that everyone asked was where did you buy that security camera system well the truth is i didn't just buy a security camera system for it i had to make it myself in my old van build i had the idea to have security cameras in it so i bought a security camera 12 volt kit and i installed that in there but the cameras were super big and bulky and people actually came up to me and told me hey man uh i know you have security cameras on there and i want to be stealth so i decided to take a completely different approach this time i got the idea because i installed a bunch of backup cameras and vans before and if you look at a backup camera you'll notice that it's literally just a camera and then there's a mess of wires and on the other end of that it's just a video cable with a power source on it so if it's that simple why don't i just get a screen that can show four different video channels at the same time and have four different plugs for them and then just get a bunch of cheap backup cameras and strategically place them around the van well long story short that's exactly what i did [Music] this is all the stuff that i found links will be in the description i'm using a 12 volt split screen that has four different video inputs and i'm going to be using two side view cameras for the sides that are white so they blend in and then i just bought a black and a white backup camera for the front and the back i'm also installing a smart camera just so i can see behind me because there's no windows in this van and i'm going to be using a blue eddy ac200 max as my power source and i'll be plugging everything straight into this fuse box and i'll go more into this when i do my electrical video but it's just simple connections i mounted the side cameras first because they were the easiest they have this adhesive strip on there that just made it easy to stick it right on and it blends right in with the side of the vehicle man it almost looks oem so then i just ran the wires back to where i had my battery set up [Music] a lot of these cables have a simple plug that will lead you straight into the video cable and the 12 volt power supply so you can see i plugged that in here but the problem is that when i went to go plug this into the screen it had the same connection they're both female but i got these adapters here that i'll put in the description that can make it go from male to female so that you can make a connection like this then i just had to connect the power supply to the fuse panel and i'm going to go over this in detail exactly how to do this in my electrical video that's going to be coming out soon so don't worry about this for now just know that i connected it to the power source so i ran the wires for this driver's side camera through the door up here inside of the headliner to here and i'm coming around and this wire is too short so i'm going to extend this just by plugging in a longer rca cable all right i need to take a quick minute to tell you about today's sponsor skillshare skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of creative classes for anyone who wants to learn new skills i first got interested in skillshare because building came easy to me i could teach it to myself but filming and editing is a lot more difficult for me to learn how to do all on my own you might notice that my editing has been getting a bit better lately and that's because i've been taking classes like ali abdul's video editing with final cut pro x from beginner to youtuber obviously i'm already a youtuber right but i'm still learning the basics to refine and master my video skills anyway the first 1000 of my viewers to use my code dualex or use the link in the description we'll get a one month free trial of skillshare so you can start exploring your creativity today thanks again to skillshare for sponsoring this video when i was looking around for a spot to mount the rear camera i found this little panel in the back that had these screws that were really easy to take it out so i ended up just pulling that out drilling a hole through it and then attaching the rear view camera and i used the white one so it kind of blends in and the cool thing about this is that this camera looks as if it's just like a camera that's gonna help you back up or maybe just so that you won't crash into something i've seen that on cargo vans a ton of times but in my case it's actually showing me a live feed of everything around me [Music] [Music] [Music] so up next i installed the smart mirror and this is not part of the full security system this is just to help me while i'm driving but it's cool because it has a camera in the front and it connects to a rear view camera in the back so i mounted an additional camera underneath the one that i already put back there near the license plate and basically what it does is it lets me see directly behind me while i'm backing up and while i'm driving all right let's check the quality so you can use this screen so you can see both the front and the back so this is the front view there's a camera right here and then the one i just installed is in the back back there but all the wires are all over the place and we're gonna get the wires set up but you can have both at the same time as well and then it can record everything too that mirror also tracks your speed and records everything it sees onto an sd card so in case you get into an accident or get pulled over you have some proof of what's going on but anyway i'm gonna go ahead and run the wires to everything else and just repeat the same process [Music] once you get all of your cameras connected to your fuse box you need to connect the fuse box to the battery the same exact way so imagine this to be uh regular battery terminals if you have that but i'm using a powerhouse right here so i have that plugged in this way and then we have everything connected up and it should all turn on so something that i wasn't able to show i was using a video cable splitter to split the feed for a few of the cameras the two side cameras i actually ran another additional wire to the radio in the cab so that way i can use that screen to actually see the sides and use those as blind spot cameras placement is important if you want to be stealth so i have my front camera attached to the mirror so it doesn't really look that weird because there's already a bunch of stuff on the mirror then these side ones are blending in with the frame and i have one on this side and one on the other side and then i also have one camera in the back on the top up here and this also just kind of looks like a backup camera so now you can see why i got a split screen monitor because now i can have all four of them on the screen at the same exact time but you can switch the channel so that you can have just one of them at a time so you can get a bigger screen if that's what you want you can also have two of them in any orientation and then this is kind of an idea of the quality you can get from these cameras this feed right here is coming from my side camera that's right over there i showed friends of mine the screen after i built it so they can see all four of the cameras but then i'd say okay now go find the cameras and they can usually locate the one in the back but in the front and the sides it took them a long time to locate it in fact most of the times i just had to tell them like hey that's not actually a blind spot camera right there that's actually the security camera as well it's time for me to answer a question from my last video and a bunch of people were asking what happened to the rv that i was building well um to tell you the truth i got rid of it it died it's not coming back i'm just kidding i just wanted to take a break from rvs because i built my big rv and then i went on to the tv show gutted that's coming out next month i built that rv then i came back and started working on this other rv and i was just like all right it's too many rvs it's been a long time since i built a van and i was just itching to build a van so i'm just putting on hold for now i'm just finishing my van and then i'll come back with uh the build video for that after that but anyway thank you guys for watching this video all the way to the end and i'll be seeing you in the next one all the stuff that i used again will be in the description so make sure you check that out and uh yeah that's it later [Music] so [Music]
