[Music] hello good morning and welcome to fort collins colorado alyssa is packing up the car i will be assisting here momentarily and we have a crazy week plan we've been here for the last week almost plus or minus i went to new york drove the pole star too and now the road trip is resuming the adventure the adventure is back on this particular segment we're not gonna be doing much camping though um we are actually leaving ellie the white dog here in fort collins alyssa and i are taking blue to los angeles and uh we'll see some things along the way of course maybe stop in a couple national parks or state parks and we are grabbing a morgan plus four for those that don't know what a morgan is just you wait it's one of the most incredible cars on the planet really dream come true stuff and we're gonna drive it up from los angeles to san francisco on a california road trip bring it back to los angeles and then we'll be making our way back here to fort collins where then we are off to pikes peak so i'm not sure how far this episode will go depends on what we film we'll certainly have a lot of eevee content a little bit of classic motoring morgan although they're brand new cars but they're designed in like 1957 really cool stuff i'll tell you all about it and so for now let's load up our model 3 performance we're 9 50 miles into our trip already and i don't see it stopping anytime soon let's continue before we load up the yakima grand tour 16 and the rest of the model 3 performance we have a problem while i was in new york alyssa had a rock hit the windshield and now it has spread all the way across so i'm not sure if this will get repaired when it sits in los angeles or when we get back to north carolina bye ellie we are at 20 state of charge and we want to go to los angeles so let's see how it looks it's really not that far from here yeah it shouldn't be too bad maybe a i don't even know let's see how many hours it is 16 hours yeah that's not bad at all so we'll do this we'll get there tomorrow is my guess unless we stop and see stuff along the way and we will be heading off to los angeles california let's go as you guys know we have to start every day with some starbucks so we are waiting in a very long drive-through line uh we have plenty of time to get out to la we don't collect the morgan until monday anytime we're gonna see matt farah uh from the smoking tire we're leaving this car at his car storage facility uh and matt's become a friend uh over time and uh we're probably gonna do a smoke entire podcast we'll grab the morgan go up in the canyons with some other automotive friends and just have an absolute crazy dream week i mean this is dreams come true anyway blue is excited we might get him a little puppuccino especially as we had to pull him away from ellie ellie's just a little bit easier to care for so we left ellie with her sister and we'll have someone else take care of blue in colorado but the both of them together can be a little bit of a handful um anyway ellie loves it there she has tons of toys lots of treats and you're gonna have a good time too so let's get some starbucks ahead to the loveland supercharger it predicts a 14 arrival um you know we haven't really been charging the car in fort collins we haven't been driving that much uh so we just kind of let it sit between 20 and 40 percent alyssa took two trips into denver to pick me up at the airport drop off and pick up i think she's supercharged a couple times but uh 20 the battery is fine there and uh we'll charge it up to get to the next one and i'm looking forward to a great day of road tripping perfect weather 82 degrees [Music] welcome back to the loveland colorado supercharger we frequent this charger because it's the closest one to fort collins and if you follow along on our road trip series you know we would have come why is this not opening come on charge port can you open the charge part there we go oh my flap isn't working probably from snapping into it so much there we go minor problems great tesla build quality anyway the cars actually held up really well but since we ran out of warranty that started to that's the first time that's happened to me and now the spoiler is kind of lifting up back here on this side and uh minor things the passenger seat controls fell off but that's because we slammed the door on i imagine something stuck in there now the windshield's cracked so it's seen some battle scars but other than that the car is holding up totally fine um i mean you can't expect a car to really be perfect after 50 000 miles of pure abuse maybe after normal driving but not what this car has been through so let's get some juice in it then we'll figure out where our next stop is and we are getting relatively good speeds we just got a software update yesterday and that is 2020.28 although there's a new one already rolling out i think it's 32. we'll see if the charge profiles look any different but right now we're maxing out the version 250 kilowatt supercharger the reason i did not put the uh rag on the handle at this supercharger like you've seen us do at other stops is because we pulled in at relatively high state of charge 12 i know to many people it doesn't sound high but when you pull in below that when it has to dump a lot of current and that's what really heats up the handle we'll probably get a little thermal throttle but not as bad as if we pulled in at five percent or three percent for example so it wants us to go to colorado springs as our next supercharger and i'd say that we could definitely make that but there's a version three here in silverthorne and one here in idaho springs so what i think we should do is just charge up until we taper here looks like there's going to be some traffic on the way to idaho springs and then we'll juice up at 250 kilowatt that's going to be faster than just letting this thing charge up longer to a higher state of charge at this supercharger so we are going to go to idaho springs we'll leave here in about 10 15 minutes blue you hanging out back there you missing your sister we are charged up to 54 only doing 80 kilowatt it did start the thermal throttle somewhere in the 40 range but that's totally fine this is a nice leisurely cruise off to la 17 arrival that looks good we'll use up a little buffer in speed as well as having the roof box up there so let's unplug and head to idaho springs colorado version 3 supercharger will the charge port flat work now let's see if i just give it a little yeah perfect and can you try and open the charge port again and it's fixed itself best part about a tesla fixes themselves and patches its own band-aids that doesn't make any sense [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and we have arrived at the idaho springs supercharger version three twelve percent we didn't really burn much juice because we sat in traffic the whole time and this thing's crazy efficient in traffic so let's see if we can pull 250 kilowatt uh this is a cool installation eight stalls kind of all around getting on his collar his good boy collar and we have to get masks and look at this cool town there's like stuff you can do pretty we good for a little walk up and down that street really a gorgeous town but there's a 20 to 40 minute wait uh for the least busy restaurants and so what i think we'll do is we'll just head on the road and get food when we're hungry and uh let's see what our next charging stop is gonna look like so we just got back in the car we're already at 62 which is just crazy fast uh it wants us to go to glenwood springs next let's see we probably don't need to go to this one which is silverthorne uh i believe we stopped there on the way into town so i agree i think uh glenwood springs is next 27 arrival and we'll just rip it there so let's unplug head out and cool little fun thing about this supercharger to make it even better trash cans and windshield washers pretty sweet let's go it's always important to look at your energy graph going forward because you can see we're gonna have a big uphill climb where we lose battery percentage then we will actually gain quite a bit of percentage on the way down two different times we'll be gaining a lot of battery through regeneration downhill so that's pretty cool and always good to know what your trip looks like from an elevation and consumption standpoint [Music] [Music] we just stopped early at the silver thorn supercharger you had seen us on the trip over to fort collins we stopped here and the next one alyssa was getting real hungry and we honestly just navigated to the nearest chipotle and it's right across the street so i was like well we'll just throw the car on the charger while we walk over we need the juice anyway we're at 47 but we'll just take it and we'll walk over get our chipotle hit the road and may as well get the juice while we're doing something else anyway that worked out perfectly like uh very rarely does it happen where you have to go get food and there's a supercharger right there anyway it's not full there's only two open spots but it's nearly full and uh thankfully i got an open cabinet so we're doing over 120 kilowatt at 48 all right time for food oh yes we got us some chipotle and it looks delicious how convenient is it that there's literally a supercharger right over here that worked out perfectly and we're gonna unplug and head out [Music] so welcome to grand junction colorado it's only a 120 kilowatt supercharger so we're not expecting much juice we've pulled in at three percent let's get this thing charging as soon as possible so we are plugged in at three percent i just plugged it in and i put the wet rag around the charging handle now two reasons why this may not be as necessary the first is the handle was in the shade the second is this is only a 120 kilowatt supercharger so it can't put as much current through that handle from those cabinets back there so the likelihood of it thermal throttling is less however it's still a hundred degrees outside we've pulled in really low which means we're going to be maxing it out if anything this isn't going to hurt the charging session this will just ensure that we can pull max speeds the whole way through i'm not sure what our next stop looks like but i have to let blue out to use the restroom and there's not much to do around here that's kind of a big mall i'll show you that right here but not much going on some restaurants we'll just let blue pee and then figure it out from there and we're charging up pegged at 112 kilowatt occasionally you see these earlier ones do a little bit more and i'm sure if i moved around i could get it up to 118 119 kilowatt they just end up losing health over time and outputting less maximum power but it's probably not worth it for those short bursts so i think we'll just sit here at 112 it's not the end of the world it looks like our next supercharger uh let's take a look is pretty far it's gonna be all the way here in green river uh and by pretty far it's not the end of the world but it does mean we are gonna sit here only at 112 kilowatt uh let's see the mileage blue's drinking his water back there the mileage is 97 miles to get there so we'll need about 50 charge and we'll be heading out [Music] [Applause] [Music] and welcome to green river utah we have arrived at six percent let's get this thing plugged in i'm plugging in on 4b and 4a for a reason that i will share here momentarily and that charge handle is pretty warm the sun just went down uh so i am going to put that in a wet rag because we're also starting very low of course we overcharged the last charger we just pegged autopilot at 90 miles per hour which is the fastest it will go speed limits here in utah are 80 which is fantastic and just burned up all that extra juice in speed so this is a classic case of tesla being a little sneaky but i think it's just because customers don't need to know this level of granularity about supercharging but i would put a lot of money on this station being an old version 1 or 120 kilowatt capped level version two supercharger basically i believe these first four stalls can only output 120 kilowatt like the last charger we we're at and the reason i say that is because it's installed like tesla used to install chargers back then it goes 1a 2a 1b 2b and so uh this is how they would install all the early ones now what they do with the newer version 2 and of course version three is a whole new thing is they go 1a 1b to a 2b and this way you just leave a space to the car next to you and you know you're good however i believe they expanded this station at some point and now it goes 3a 3b 4a 4b so it's clear that three and four were added at a later time now in the car it says this station can output 150 kilowatt and that's absolutely true that's what our car is charging at right now but it's only gonna be on three or four cabinet not one or two so if you come to one of these stations and you see a mismatch of installations i've seen it at every one the ones that are 1a 2a 2 or 1b and then 2b those are the early ones go on the higher numbers and typically i'd say charge closer to the cabinets because there's less power that needs to run across the line but i've yet to see any evidence of either slower charging or voltage sag or anything like this over longer distances with super charging of course it happens but i think the cabinets compensate by putting out more power so there's your two-minute explanation and supercharger trick as to why you should always choose higher numbers if the installation doesn't follow a set install pattern with numbers and letters that was a long one no one's around here we have the place all to ourselves and blue is just having a blast what a picturesque moment with this sky wow you having fun buddy yeah look at that river look at that dog that is pretty amazing blue we love you we miss your sister though all right nice we just got back 70 everything's good tapered down let's unplug head out and go to richfield utah as the next supercharger uh it's only a four stall 150 kilowatt no one's there right now and no one will probably be there at close to 11 o'clock at night but let's unplug and go we should put that on a t-shirt yeah it's so dry out here that this soaking wet rag is almost dry i mean it's damp now but with the heat from the handle which yeah it's a little warm but a little warmer than room temp but not hot like it normally would be yikes spider never use this supercharger here 4b and whatever station we're at spiders no thanks [Music] [Applause] [Music] another perfectly planned out charging stop charged just enough at the last one we have arrived at three percent at the holiday inn express in richfield utah let's get this thing juicing up oh there's a kitty hey kitty and we'll plug it in let her go it's colder temps out here i'm still going to wrap the uh the uh rag around the charging handle just to help it but it probably isn't needed it's like 68 degrees out maybe we'll stay here tonight i think we're both kind of getting a little tired and we really aren't in a rush so we'll see if they have availability if not there's a couple other hotels around or knowing us maybe we'll just get back on the road and stretch it really no clue have to talk to alyssa about it i just pulled the wet rag off the handle the handle is very cool to the touch however at only i think 17 or 18 were already tapered down to 116 kilowatt now this is also another common scenario there's other temperature sensors throughout the whole supercharging cabinet and unit that do heat up and and it can thermal uh limit your your charging session so what we're going to do is unplug the car move it to another stall and i bet we'll go right back up to 140 kilowatts so let's give it a go we are actually at 24 but still it's able to pulse peak speeds at that state of charge so now we have switched not only posts but entire cabinets uh so this cabinet should be nice and cool so here is the plan going forwards we're gonna head down this way towards st george utah and over towards vegas um if you look here this is the next charger in beaver utah it's only 64 miles away but that's actually pretty good which means we can charge up to about 50 at peak rates rip it there and then we'll be in st george next so i like having these chargers that are right off the highway that are at least 150 kilowatt look that one's right off the highway so it would make no sense for us to try to skip that we'll go to about i don't know 40-ish percent maybe 45 and then we'll head to that [Music] [Applause] [Music] charger [Music] and you join us at the quality inn which actually is the nicest hotel in this town and behind me right there are the superchargers so we're going to get checked in get alyssa in the room i'm going to charge the car up to 40 50 let it sit at a happy state of charge tonight let that battery rest and then in the morning what i'll do is i'll wake up throw it on the supercharger and charge it up uh there is a risk to this of course and if it gets really cold tonight which it's possible it will charge slowly in the morning because the battery temp will be too cold to accept a high charge rate now it's no problem because i'm always up way before alyssa and the car will probably be sitting there completed for a couple minutes when i go out to get it so no issues and we have just plugged in and started charging here let's take a look at the stats i believe we're at seven percent i think what we'll do is we'll charge it to 50 percent let it complete it'll sit overnight and we'll charge it back up in the morning so we'll go from seven to fifty percent right now alyssa and blue are in the hotel room if i wanted to not that i'm going to because no one's really going to come here tonight i could just probably leave the car overnight on the charger and just go to sleep but it doesn't really feel right i mean i'll probably just i mean i'm definitely not going to do that i'm going to park it over there and bring it back in the morning but some owners would probably do this and again they won't charge you idle fees unless the station is more than half full or i should say half full or greater so that's okay i'll just wait with the car for the next 15 minutes or so up to 50 percent put it at the hotel and bring it back over in the morning good morning we just rolled out of bed blue is using the restroom we're gonna jump in the tesla throw it on the supercharger it got quite chilly so i don't expect any great speeds but that's okay i still have to shower alyssa's still in bed so we'll let this thing charge up pretty slowly and whatever it gets to when we're done is what we're gonna leave with we already have enough juice i think to make it to the next charger but we may as well plug it in while it's here at the hotel all right here we go plugging in at 50 state of charge actually 49 we lost only one percent i had sentry mode on which i really don't use often but only in sort of these types of parking lots and uh yeah now we're plugged in let's kind of see what speeds we can get uh we'll see if the new software is pretty aggressive with cold pack charging and it's ramping up here all looks good wow that's already way better than i would have expected yep well there we go that's why it settled out so that seems about right for given the temperatures of last night about 68 kilowatt or so uh i would have guessed 62 but that's okay close enough and you can see we're slowly already starting to ramp up because it'll heat up fairly quickly while supercharging at these speeds and i'm gonna go walk blue back to the hotel and we'll be back in the car at whatever state of charge it's at i imagine we'll be fairly close to a hundred percent blue all loaded up we've been showered cleaned up everything's good cars at like 93 94 perfect timing we're gonna run down there jump in the car and it'll be off to st george supercharger utah well st george utah supercharger [Music] and we have arrived in george at 49 it could be 48 but i think it's 49. what a full supercharger we have here we are just maxed out one open stall um we are gonna go to panda express right over there hell yeah not only is there a panda express which i was already extremely excited about when we pulled in the parking lot look at what is behind me where is my hand there starbucks and panda you know if if we could have some sort of partnership between starbucks tesla and panda express i i would never even consider driving another car other than a tesla at that point so all right let's go get some good food and drink and we are charging up at 67 kilowatt at 50 which isn't that great we are sharing with this black model 3 right over here but they probably have already tapered to the point where we're getting pretty good speed so we got lucky on this one sometimes you plug in when you have to share and you only get uh you know 20 kilowatt whatever is left over pulls the other card down just a hair and you get their leftover bits but no complaints here like i said we really didn't probably have to stop here but we ripped it pretty hard and now will we be we will be off to los angeles so are we gonna go past las vegas and go to prim wants to go to baker wow that's a big stretch i'm not feeling like that's possible but i think what we'll do is we'll skip las vegas maybe we will stop at this one but i don't think we will and we'll just go over here to prim nevada and that's where we will stop next oh yes some great panda express this day is getting great i'm gonna go pick up my starbucks how there wasn't a line out the door here i have no idea i just walked right up the fantastic employees at panda express graciously got me my delicious food and now i cannot wait to eat it up what a good day what a good day i was about to complain that this supercharger was like five miles off the highway and it was full but this just made up for it starbucks and panda [Music] welcome to the link at las vegas you've been here with me many times and uh essentially this is the you know version three under the 80 kilowatt solar array we could have stretched it to prim but we just drove way too fast i was like you know what this is only like one mile exactly off the highway we'll rip up at v3 speeds if i knew we were coming here i would have charged less than st george but i was enjoying panda express so not the most optimized trip but still a pretty fun one we're gonna take a look at what we're getting at 23 state of charge probably not 250 kilowatt but close and we'll just top up just enough until it tapers to the point uh below let's say 150 kilowatt and then we'll head out there we go rocking 217 you can see it dropping as the charge profile starts to taper it down um prim is not very far and then we have baker after that so we'll stop at one of those two we have arrived at the 40 stall in baker california let's get this thing plugged in man you can see the sand has just destroyed these chargers let's get this thing going we're going to definitely put the wet cloth on here in a second but look at this install just tesla chargers everywhere and of course we have what looks to be brand new electrify america stations going in as well 350 kilowatt that looks pretty sweet and this is such a cool install so i'm over with these electrify america chargers and i stand corrected they are only up to 150 kilowatt and there's like four stations that only do 50 kilowatt that's a very rare install typically they all do 350s however you can see they've run conduit in the post to add more chargers when the time comes so they're able to expand that's pretty smart uh but still you know in the us if you're road tripping at tesla is the popular choice i'm not gonna say it's the best or worst but uh i would say there's you know what seven eight cars over here charging and zero on this side so just that's how it is these days you can see over in here all of the version two cabinets uh there's 20 of them i guess since it's a 40 stall i've certainly never seen this many next to each other even at kettleman city because a lot of those have been swapped out to version threes when i went and this is a ton of the power equipment just so cool and man this thing must just chug so much juice and of course you have solar panels up here that help a little bit but this can't be more than a i don't know 50 60 70 kilowatt array something like that welcome to barstow there's a solar panel here as far as i understand it the early ones do 120 kilowatt like we saw earlier these all should do 150 but unfortunately we have to share with this model s next to us there's no way around it everything everyone's spaced out perfectly so we are sharing and no issues there we're just going to hang out for a little bit i'll put the rag around the handle it's not so wet anymore and we don't have much water to spare in the car so we're just going to do it to keep the sun off the handle at this point and that will be that we actually just moved under the canopy because a model x pulled out so we have our own cabinet now and uh we'll be ready to rip a good charging curve we were just doing 80 kilowatt because again the model x just pulled out from this spot i put the wet rag i did find some water put the wet rag on the handle and boom instantly shot back up to 113-114 now if i remember correctly these first four only do 120 kilowatt but that's okay we're pulling pretty much top end of those yet another supercharger yet another person coming up to say hi always nice we like meeting everyone that watches the channel uh pretty poor supercharging session we moved someone else plugged in our charger had to drop down to give them a little extra juice so that's okay uh we are gonna charge pretty deep here to get over to el mirage because who knows how much driving we'll do out there and then we'll grab a hotel we just figured out blue's dog care for this week really awesome uh dog sitter and everything is kind of coming together we'll see uh matt from the smoking tire and zach tomorrow in l.a we'll be leaving our car with them at west side collector car storage i'll tell you a little bit more about their business and everything they've been working on but for now it's 115 degrees out here and i think blue needs to go back in the car this dude just tried to back in to charge here but you to pull through come on guys welcome to el mirage dry lake bed how cool is this you excited let's give it the beans welcome to an extremely windy el mirage drive lake bed i'm sure you can't hear me i'll dub over the audio if it's that bad but check this out this is just incredible so bright so here we are we're gonna go run the tesla alyssa's gonna drive it a bit we're gonna see what we can get it up to in terms of speed welcome to beautiful santa clarita florida california why did i just say florida uh anyway it's already been an eventful stay loving california already we pull up to the hotel this dude is butt-ass naked like alyssa thought it might have been a woman like nope this was a guy and uh just hanging out the window screaming at everyone walking in the hotel you mentioned that he was butt ass yeah so anyway we called the cops on him and so uh gotta love it he was too large that you couldn't see anything right like dang yeah dang california a lot of weirdos here anyway we have an exciting day planned for tomorrow jam-packed just so you have an idea we're gonna go get dinner we won't vlog for the rest of the day uh blue gets dropped off at his awesome dog care place at 11 we pick up the morgan plus four at two we'll also possibly drive a morgan three-wheeler while we're there we have the morgan for really as long as we need it but i think we'll have it for five days and then uh we do everything with the smoking tire at four o'clock so pretty good day should be awesome we're gonna go into this hotel and if this dude comes at us we're calling the cops on them blue has full rights to tear them to bits so let's go see what happens here is the update look at the dude put on a robe and the cops are here no he does not have a roblox really oh it's just the uh that's right it's just the the the door curtain thank you i don't know why i can think about that to the morgan plus 4 and welcome to los angeles california this is our car for the week and it is so cool this thing's pretty much 100 grand it's got a few options like air conditioning of radio just luxuries that should not be in a morgan and three windshield wipers look at that it's like an fj cruiser and uh man what a great la car this is [Music] it's actually pretty good [Music] you join us now just outside of malibu california with something very special the morgan plus four alyssa and i are gonna drive this from basically here in los angeles all the way up the coast of san francisco we'll hang out there for a day and then we'll come back pick up the dogs and resume the trip in the tesla however i figured we'd bring you along for some of the highlights in the morgan tell you a little bit about the car along the way how special it is and then uh we'll just keep enjoying our time here we're on the pacific coast highway it really doesn't get any more beautiful than this it's just one of the coolest life boxes to check pretty amazing let's go drive this morgan up the coast [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] we are now just a little bit halfway to san francisco and wow it was kind of cold today so i stole alyssa's sweatshirt she has her jacket and i forgot to bring mine and the morgan's been performing just well we have not broken down which is very not traditional for a morgan i feel like i'm not getting the full morgan experience we haven't had full mechanical failure uh anyway no seriously the the car has been great it's we've met so many cool people at rest stops we saw seals or sea lions what were they were elephant seals elephant seals and and normal seals um yeah i mean this is just the coolest thing look at the car look how good it looks in this light with this hue it's so hard to pick up this hue on camera but something about the coastline of california just has this i don't know kind of this aura this uh it just looks like a movie it's so cool so having a blast here with the morgan and i can't wait to keep driving more i never want to give it back again it's a morgan plus four it's the four cylinder two liter it's a ford motor it doesn't sound that great but it's it's effective it has a five-speed manual transmission out of a miata and it has suspension from an ox cart uh from the 1800s so let's jump back in the morgan and continue going for a drive all right i'm going to show you how you start the morgan so it's key up everything comes to life but the fuel pump prime once that's done now it's done it's neutral foot on clutch and that's it pretty good sounds okay not perfect little grumbly in person but it doesn't usually transfer through the camera other than that let me take you through all the technology on this car that's your full tour of the technology it's got three pedals a stick in the middle a very happy person behind the wheel hazard lights it actually has a heated windshield which is kind of interesting this particular one has air conditioning although we have not tried it we've just had it on the heater and it has a radio which we also have not tried uh right and heated seats and heated seats those are very effective yeah that's the heat yeah and uh let's see we've driven it 451 miles so far they're going to have a lot of miles on this when we give it back to them and the the handbrake's really cool because all you do to release is you just pull it back and it's down and we're ready to go it's so nice to drive three pedals again actually since you're with us let's just do a little acceleration run on the way out of here and here we go [Music] [Music] [Music] uh [Music] [Music] pretty good tour of san francisco now we're gonna merge on the highway and head towards route one let's give it the beans [Music] [Music] all right we are all topped up with fuel actually no we're not i left the gas cap it has one of those inner gas caps that you have to use the key i always leave it on the fuel pump station there we go all right now we're good to go getting in and out really isn't that bad so it's key up ignition on neutral love that starter motor sound it's an old-school starter motor sound but with a relatively modern forward four-cylinder engine hand brake off heater on first gear and we're off okay so we're gonna go have some brunch over at taste cafe leave the car here for people to admire and take some of our stuff because we're scared it might get stolen half moon bay isn't dangerous but you just never know so we take our stuff right because it takes a long time to put the roof up to protect the car and you can't lock the doors either way but if somebody wants to take our clothes so be it i'll go on a shopping [Music] spree [Music] we've stopped here along the side of highway one where we are admiring the morgan and this lighthouse but since we're doing that let's talk a little bit more about the plus four well you can see it looks like it's from 1950 and that's really when it was originally launched however this one as you know is a 2019 so let's talk about some of the differences between the 1950 version and this brand new one so come with me along the start you can see the styling is very similar just minor changes along the way this one of course has the ford four-cylinder two-liter motor modern engine in there the new generation will have the bmw turbocharged four-cylinder that's in like a mini cooper s or a three series something like this the styling though is all very similar they do use a little less wood the whole inside is made of ash wood which is really cool it actually turns out to be a pretty good material to make cars with but the chassis is steel uh coming around the back you can see it's been adapted uh for you know newer cars of course you have your third brake light your chimsel and then you can see this one's not really built for the u.s market i'm not sure how many come into the us every year but it's got to be 30 or less and you can see that here just by the license plate signs our plates don't fit on the back they're built for the european long and wide plates but other than that this really is a beautiful car and an interesting note if you see a morgan on the road which is exciting if you do the plus four the number four like this one signifies all of the older plus fours from 2020 onwards there plus 4 is changing to also a plus 4 but f o u r that's the next generation car pretty much its first redesign in 70 [Music] years [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] we've just stopped in this cute little town in i'm not sure the name of it but the rain we just drove through it but we're stopping for dinner we're gonna have more rain so we're putting the top up uh it really is super easy you just kind of lift it up put the back into its notches two latches up front and that's it and yes i actually do fit i'm six foot one i can fit with the roof up alyssa is grabbing the windows which slide into these little slots here which are really cool and then you have a fully closed off car and we're gonna drive back to la with the roof up because it looks like it's gonna rain for the rest of the day unfortunately but we've done a thousand miles roof down and now we're gonna give it a go with the roof up so we just had great clam chowder here at what was the name of that place ducky duckies that's right i knew it had a good name and we're gonna roll back into la we have another 250 miles or so and we're 988 miles into our time with the morgan so far uh so 250 miles it's about what time is it it is uh we don't know what time it is but uh oh yeah 605 so it'll be dark by the time we get pull in so we'll test the headlights as well and then uh we have a full day of canyon motoring tomorrow so let's get going here it really doesn't seem too bad this one again maybe this is where the air conditioning will come helpful but no power steering i need to drop the phone and get to steering so so far we've done about a quarter of a mile we just pulled out with the roof up they have these little plastic tabs here that supposedly hold in this roof we're gonna find out just how well but i would say it's relatively quiet dare i say refined with the roof up i have these really nice plexiglas windows i have a little bit of wind i can feel coming through but not bad and you can hear that exhaust note better yeah you can really hear this thing [Music] inside all right so 78 miles an hour the route hasn't fallen off yet there's 80 but it kind of feels like it's gonna just fine we are driving the morgan three-wheeler this one has a stage one intake and exhaust so it sounds pretty good um this is just the coolest i actually like it more than the plus four here we go just the best thing ever gotta love it morgan's are so cool and we just had a nice little go in the three wheeler it's time to load up and head back to denver to collect ellie our other dog that we have forgotten this week in the dirty tesla and man this thing really is dirty but how about that three wheeler and that plus four we just had this week amazing epic week with some morgans so now we're back let's take a look we still have our giant crack in the windshield was not able to have it repaired this week but that's something we'll have to look into we are gonna be heading to fort collins colorado i'm not sure what this is all about but there must be some bad traffic is the only thing i can think of uh we probably won't have to do that on the way so let's look at our next supercharging stop it wants us to go to rancho cucamonga uh which seems like a reasonable stop at 13 we're charged up to 38 right now let's see what our other options are if are there are any so this is rancho cucamonga it's a 150 kilowatt and then there's fontana which is only a 72 kilowatt so it definitely makes sense to go here it's looking pretty full hopefully we don't have to share with anyone but that's going to be our first stop rancho cucamonga and we are plugged in here but the charge port has gone red this is the first supercharger in a year i believe the whole cabinet's instead 6a 6b but definitely this one so the way that we'll let people know is we're just going to put it over hand it like this sorry for the poor camera work and then they'll know that that one does not work since everything else is filled up we'll try this one but i'm sure the cabinet's dead will then put the charging cable over like this to indicate non-functioning stalls and uh if these folks are leaving we might take their spot if not we'll just go to the urban supercharger down the street it's 113 degrees out all right we are now on 6a i'm expecting a similar response see it sends the signal to open the charge port door plug it in and red oh blue this is interesting is it gonna work it says charging stopped i am guessing it is not yeah now we're back to red so this whole cabinet is just completely done for we're gonna put it over that is pretty rare for superchargers but does happen especially here in the heat now we have another model s in the queue and uh i think what we're gonna do is we're just going to abandon rancho cucamonga because we'd have to share anyway and let's just head off to this one right off the highway which is fontana 72 kilowatt should be no problem and now you join us in fontana at the urban supercharger it doesn't matter which one of these you plug into because as i talked about a couple episodes ago all of these are four split to only output 72 kilowatt now it's such a hot day and these are baking in the sun i can't even touch this handle we'll see if we can even get the full 72 kilowatt with some thermal throttling but i bet we can 72 isn't really that hard on these chargers but you can see all of the cabinets down there that feed the juice for all i believe 24 of these urban superchargers and here we are getting 71 kilowatt close enough to maxing it out i'd say and let's take a look as to what our next stop will be on the way to fort collins uh let's see it wants to go to yermo that sounds pretty good i'd say you know we stopped in in barstow on the way down we'll go to yermo we'll skip baker maybe we'll hit prismo or prim sorry i'm getting all my towns confused and then we'll be up on the same route that we came down on maybe we'll stop at bryce and zion's on the way as well we are charged up to 54 that took a while on an urban supercharger alyssa is going to take on this leg i have to edit some polestar stuff and we are ready to rock and roll she's gonna grab my headphones take a look at this crack it is spreading all right you're gonna take on this leg to your mo you ready for it oh yeah yeah you won't crash us in the middle of the desert maybe maybe all right well good luck good luck to me with you driving every time i leave the car with you you damage it you curved up some wheels you crack the windshield the windshield's not my fault right well you said you were following a truck a legit truck yes just a truck don't you know trucks spew up rocks how many times have you fall behind a truck i try to save energy no not like a big big truck like a normal everyday truck like a pickup truck a pickup truck that's not that's a pickup truck it's not a semi truck or a legit truck it's a truck okay well that's fine i was picturing a semi when the rocket the windshield no it was just a truck oh that's it well nothing you could do about the rock that's right that's not your fault no it's not i know it's not but the curved wheels was your fault no it was not yes it was there was a child in the middle of the road what else would you do right over break instead of driving up on the curb it came out in front of me within a couple of feet all right so he just drove it up yeah because i didn't want to hit a kid just comment below on whether you would hit the kid or try and break and almost hit the kid or just swerve over and risk curbing your wheels definitely hit the kid okay well you're a murderer welcome to yermo california we are about to plug in we are at uh 16 and yes it's at eddie's world which is like a giant candy ice cream store so you want to get some ice cream yeah we can do that go plug us in you should have my shoes on oh no driving with no shoes really i never travel shoes on wow it's uncomfortable all of the cabinets are totally full on that side so rather than risking having to share with someone we're just going to eat the 73 kilowatts here not the best but again a lot of these hot weather chargers it's 109 degrees outside they just get totally trashed in the heat this is why version 3 chargers seem to be holding up better in hot weather temperatures uh these version twos are not the best but still 72 73 kilowatt is pretty bad but we're not in a huge rush if we were cannonballing i'd be freaking out trying to find any other station that can do more but we'll eat the 72. a spot over on this side opened up so we are going to plug into 6 a and b hopefully we'll cease better speeds because 1b ramped all the way down to 27 kilowatt i don't know what's going on with those over there but we're gonna leave blue over here in the car gotta put it on dog mode for him we need to put these evanex sun shades in for this heat and man the car is looking nasty needs a full clean out let's take a look at our speeds and we are back to acceptable charging speeds certainly not maxing anything out but in 110 degree weather that's about all we can ask for so looks pretty good i could put a wet rag on the charging handle but we don't have any water in the car now i normally would never film in a bathroom but there are screens at the urinals what that's crazy our next stop is going to be prim nevada not very far but i like doing the charging hops we are charged up to 60 we're gonna give it just a little bit more it's about a hundred mile stretch to get there 102 miles so we would be fine if we left now we'll just charge up just for a couple percent more and then we'll be in nevada [Music] and we have arrived at 10 at prim nevada supercharger why don't you get us plugged in so people don't get to see i would do it but working and this is just a lot of wires to have to move to get out of the car so this is going to get us charging up i think it's only a 120 kilowatt no it's a 150 uh so we're going to get juicing up sounds good to me and it's not a really cool like resort casino and there's a big roller coaster over there blue would like to ride the roller coaster man this thing's almost dried out you can tell we are in the desert for sure let's unplug it it's a nice cold handle doesn't even want to stay in its spot there we go let's head out when you need every last ounce of juice you can possibly get i have this thing charging at limited current down to 10 amps on this extension cord out of our hotel room sometimes you just gotta do it good morning after a really great night's sleep we are the last ones i think to leave the hotel it's about 11 in the morning it's baking hot out here uh the charging was great we just ran the extension cord into the room as you saw and it's charged up to 100 we haven't done many 100 charges this trip and it's for good reason we want to protect the battery from doing it over and over however today we are doing bryce canyon zion national park first i'm not sure if there's great charging infrastructure in there i couldn't see anything on plug share as well as a lot of that area is on fire so there's detours and like things that we may have to go around so you know what i said let's just top it up to a hundred percent since we had the option to run the cord into our hotel room right there on the floor so we're topped up ready for adventure i'm gonna pre-condition the car get the dog in there all of our luggage all of our stuff and there's a starbucks i think right on the other side of this hotel and then we'll go [Music] okay [Music] come on [Applause] [Music] uh you know i this is one of the coolest places because we've just been climbing these steep inclines and look at these views and we're not even halfway down the canyon but it leaves us with a little problem it's a good thing we charged up to a hundred percent because we have been sitting in boiling heat i think we saw a high of 113 degrees or so and we've been sitting in traffic going up zion and then the canyons up here to bryce and it's just been big inclines big heat lots of idling and our efficiency has not been that great especially with the roof box which means we're gonna go to the end of this canyon and then the supercharger may or may not be in reach at that point if it's not it's no problem though there's plenty of public charging around here we may just have to go have lunch at one of them to get just enough range to make it to one of the superchargers we'll take a look at once we hit the end of the canyon but man it is just absolutely gorgeous [Applause] [Music] what we normally would have done if we had a lot of juice was just head straight up this road over to richfield utah to that supercharger that we stopped at last time however because we are running quite low we're at 26 and we have a six percent arrival projected in beaver utah we are going to take this road over to beaver and then up now it's also interesting to note that i-70 here through colorado is currently closed the car is not uh showing us that but there are wildfires and things like this going on in colorado so it may make sense for us to actually go up to salt lake and then over through wyoming and down to fort collins that may be how we have to go just because this stretch of road is [Music] [Applause] closed [Music] we are now in laramie wyoming perfectly planned at two percent we have arrived blue is going to go find ellie go find ellie go find ellie where's buddy he knows where he is go find ellie there she is ellie we missed you this episode hi sweet girl i know you're all excited [Music] hiya hi sweet girl [Music] you
