hey what's going on everybody Luis here excellent question came up this morning about the ease of use of 2 K Poly and pre-k Blacker's so I'm actually shooting some 2k poly so I figured what a great time to shoot a short video I'm actually going to tone this just a little bit darker when I tone with the the 2k polyurethane or the acrylic urethane products I actually dilute some vinyl sealer out there's only probably you know 20% vinyl sealer compared to the amount of acetone that I use when I tone but anyways I'm going to tone this out so we can get to the 2k poly all right so I'm gonna let that toner coat dry for just a little bit I'm gonna light sand it and honestly I'm going to put it I'm catching these doors up but with this 2k poly with it being about sixty percent solids I'm only going to do one heavy coat of poly so you'll get the opportunity to kind of see how well that finished builds and lays down and levels out all right guys so I keep in mind I'm trying to do this quick because I'm catching this job up so I've got everything toned I'm not sure if you can see all of that here but I have a little bit of coloring consistency there so I'm gonna tone that out with a toner can just to make this process just a little bit faster make sure y'all can see this here yeah so very very light fan I'm just gonna go for my surf prep surf Lex 320 just to kind of speed this process up and get this show on the road because I'm catching all this stuff up and I need to get on the road and get this stuff delivered that's the other good thing about using a couch a polyurethane is that and you know a free cat lock or a vinyl seal or something like that is we can very efficiently and quickly work with these products I am using solvent base obviously I have the luxury of being in a state where is very little regulation and I also have a spray booth so makes things just a little bit quicker and faster especially on days like today when we have a little bit of cool weather it's not cold but it's cool here in Houston and you know that just take take longer for four different products for dry also it's been raining here for two months so water-based products are kind of hard to use so I'm gonna clone this one more this bottom panel I'm just going to go over it with just a little bit of Van Dyke Brown to get it in that same color range that top one and I'm just going to miss that color on there perfect all right so we are a lot closer in color than we were before so now I'm just going to go ahead and take these to the booth and get everything shot just kind of I'm going to get the 2k poly and again we're gonna shoot one coat and you'll be able to see how well this product lays down alright everybody so now I'm going to mix this 2 K poly this is the OVA product that I'm working with I'm only gonna make I'm gonna make nine ounces for those two panels and again I'm gonna lay it down a little bit heavy so this is a two to one system so I'm gonna go six ounces and I'm over I'm under now the good thing with Pali compared to a solvent-based conversion varnish is that if you over or under catalyzed it's not that big of a deal so that's a very big benefit with using these two-component polyurethane products with conversion varnish for example it's very temperamental if you over or under catalyzed you can have issues you know the other thing about a conversion on is compared to a polyurethane is that a polyurethane the catalyst or the hardener sorry I doing some math and my heads is actually has solids in it and helps to increase the durability of the product when you're dealing with a conversion varnish product you the catalyst that goes in it isn't necessarily a hardener well it's not a hardener all it does is cross caught it's caused cross-linking of the product so it's an acid cure system so once you add the catalyst to it cross-linking occurs that causes the product to begin to cure so with the 2k poly it's it actually has solids in it so it's a very very very durable finish guys and this again this it has its place in the market just like pre cat lacquers do I don't want anybody to think that I am saying that 2k poly is better than free cat lacquer all I'm saying is that it's a little easier to use it's very high in solids it's my choice for cabinetry or anything that's high use if I'm doing furniture or if I'm doing wall panels that necessarily won't be touched to Kay Polly definitely is not the route I'm gonna go I'm gonna reach for that pre cat lacquer or a conversion varnish if it's furniture definitely free cat lacquer if it's wall panels just depending on what the architectural millwork company specifies you know we might go conversion varnish or we might go with a high quality free cat lacquer so another thing is with these two K Polly's you want to make sure you mix this material very very very well we don't want to you know you want to incorporate that system all together so just stir and stir and stir there's no set time that I typically like to do it sorry just reaching for some thinner here but just incorporate the material together very very well so the critical compart of this of two-part system I'm gonna throw just a little bit of thinner in here so let it flow a little bit better and that's about all inner I'm gonna use all right I'm gonna get this in the cup and we'll take it to the booth all right guys we've got the panel ready to shoot last time I cut my head off in that video I don't really care y'all don't want to see my ugly mug anyways y'all just want to see what this finish looks like so the story - lay it down [Music] [Music] all right so you can see just how nice this finish lays down I'm going to take a camera off of the tripod the build on this 2k poly is absolutely incredible for a cabinet finish like I said I'm only going to do one coat on these and it'll be sufficient so I hope this video helped yell out I mean this finish looks awesome alright guys so any questions feel free to shoot me a message you know I'm always here to help hope everybody has a good day alright guys so that panel is dry it's been about 25 minutes and you can see how nice of a sheen we have there good clarity on the product but keep in mind this was one coat and start to finish from when I was shooting this you know I want to say it's probably 30 minutes or so and I'm I'm taking into consideration when this panel just had stain on it so compared to a pre catalyzed lacquer actually you know what let's go over here I think I have a pre cap panel that we shot it's probably dusty let's take it to the booth so you can see it and the light and I'm gonna have to dust it off because it's dirty let me get a rag okay so this is a pretty catalyzed lacquer satin finish you know the reason I have it here and this is such a dark color it's on you know it's a very very dark stain color and it's toned out darker but you know to really look at it you can see how better the poly fills compared to what we have here so you can still see a lot of open brain kind of and that finish and there's really no comparison honestly I mean this pretty cat lacquer job I you know it's not my first choice but it's what was specified so it's what we used anytime somebody specify something of course we're going to try to tell them reasons not to do it that way but you know you're working with a good customer you're gonna do what they want so there's a comparison side-by-side and I know this is dirty but just to give you a little bit of insight to that so next time I shoot some pretty cat Locker I'll make sure we do a video and you can see how long it takes to build this finish the free cat lacquer compared to the 2k poly you all know that was one coat I showed you there was one coat could it use another coat honestly I think it's just fine we could definitely sand it and shoot it one more time but I'm gonna call it a day on this finish alright guys thanks
