I purchased tear gas launchers for each of my kids along the way I purchased a Burna SD and then this Berna HD and then also this UMX t4e which also says hdp 50 this video is just to compare the features and the power of both the Burna product and the um product because this cost about $279 and this cost about $79 and so there's a huge price tag difference and it just depends on what you're trying to get out of the weapon in order to decide which one is the most appropriate for you so we're going to walk through some of the features and then we're actually going to test it first this is the Burna model um this one is the HD it's the earlier version um the SD that I bought is very much like it except it has a slightly different trigger curvature um overall the weapons are very very similar the SDI already sent away to one of my kids and so I don't have it here to show you but what I really wanted to Dre is draw a contrast between what Burna and UMX makes so first the Burna model is a 68 caliber weapon it [Applause] fires 68 caliber balls from that chamber and the cylinder the CO2 cylinder is an 8 G cylinder and it goes in there sorry this way this weapon has a safety on the side um which is very easy to work from both sides of the weapon pull it down to Fire and it's clearly marked on there um it has a magazine release sorry a at the bottom it holds five rounds um when you put the rounds in uh the follower goes down so you can see how many are in there when you pull on this release it sends them out when you load around and push it into the weapon the marker between the for Sight and the rear sight pops up to let you know that there's a round in the chamber that right there and then when you drop it the clip you can see that the ball has now gone into the Chamber of the gun so you can put five more rounds in here and still have one in the chamber if you wish and you'll see if you can tell how high that is popped up like a millimeter if you press it the ball drops out of the chamber and this recedes into the gun so you always know there's round in the chamber based on where that's popped to it has a trigger which is going to pull whether the safe is on or not so the safe is on I can pull the trigger you can even see it popping up the chamber at the top but when you release the safe and put it on fire mode you can hear a big difference at that last moment that's what changes so even with safe on the trigger pulls but it doesn't actually release around unless it's set to fire by cont contrast the UMX holds 50 caliber rounds they look like this and by size comparison there's a big size comparison difference and there's a big weight comparison difference the Burna holds five rounds in the clip with the option of One in the Chamber and the UMX press the slide out of the way and you can load rounds in under the barrel two three four five six and the sixth round blocks any seventh round from dropping in put the you can see now the spring is compressed all the way to that point just behind the hole that you feed the rounds into so this is going to hold six rounds without trying to force one into the chamber the rumor X has a totally different safing mechanism so whereas the Burna has a more traditional safe the UMX has a trigger safe kind of like a Glock and so if you try and pull back on the trigger you cannot activate the trigger unless you put your finger on the safe release inside the trigger guard so you can see it's really simple there's a little Notch right there that gets pushed up when the trigger release is as activated and that gives it just enough clearance so that you can actually push the trigger through now so the trigger is pretty safe it's not going anywhere but when you put your finger inside the trigger guard you have the ability to discharge the weapon any time there's no external safe the slot lock and the slide itself and the magazine drop and all those things are just cosmetic features on this weapon none of them actually do anything the cylinder unlike the Burna where the gas cylinder is loaded underneath the barrel that's not the case on this weapon 50 caliber barrel and then the cylinder goes in the bottom however also unlike the burner which takes an 8 G CO2 cylinder the UMX holds a 12 G cylinder which has a lot more capacity and so I can usually get about 20 shots out of the burner before it begins to lose power and um runs out of CO2 and I can get well over 30 out of the UMX you never really need that if this is going to be a self-defense weapon cuz you're probably just going to have one clip with you and you're going to empty that into your target but it has way more capacity than you need for any given situation that is related to safety the Burna is sold in this nice little carrying case um the kit costs you more depending on what you want to be included in it how many gas cylinders what type of rounds you want um this one that I bought on eBay came with Burno Max rounds instead of the standard tear gas rounds and of course you get an extra clip which is very helpful by comparison the UMX comes in this box and it looks a whole lot more like a airsoft toy than it does a self-defense weapon and it has um 10 of the pepper rounds in it and 10 of the hard rubber practice rounds they call it which are the um kinetic rounds and this weapon has no CO2 in it these had to be bought separately um it's sold without any ability to use it when you get it unless you buy extra CO2 so I bought actual UMX CO2 just because I wanted to make sure that I was getting the best performance out of the gun and maybe I'll experiment with other cheaper CO2 rounds but this is where I'm starting also by comparison this weapon the HD you can see YouTube videos with guys with ballistic traps that can show you how fast the rounds are traveling and they get 260 280 in that range the umex says it's rated at 375 ft per second so on paper even though the umex round weighs a lot less than the burner round it should have more velocity which should help to balance the amount of momentum or kinetic energy that each round has when it's fired so first let's set each weapon up and then we're going to test them together head-to-head to see which one has the more penetration power so in order to release the cylinder from the Burna there is an allen key built into the back of the clip that you have and the second clip note that this has red markings on the bottom of One Clip and black on the other with the idea that you can put pepper rounds in one and know that you're not going to fire or waste them when you're practicing but there's an allen key built in you can put that inside the cap for the CO2 canister and it will help you release it there's a lot of thread so you don't have the possibility of turning it just a little bit and then having the pressure shoot the cap out at you note there's no cylinder inside there and the pin that punctures it is way down at the bottom so I take a CO2 round which is sealed drop it inside put the cap back on use the hex key to Snug it down and it's ready to go but this weapon is not going to fire right now at this moment the CO2 cylinder is still sealed and you can leave it like this indefinitely and when you need it as soon as you pull the trigger and it's not on safe it's going to puncture the CO2 and if you pull the trigger it will fire around as it's released the CO2 cylinder from being sealed or you can puncture the CO2 cylinder with one pull and then fire rounds after that the only caution is that maybe the first round doesn't have the full velocity of the rounds that come after it because it's combining the action of puncturing the cylinder and pushing the round out so to load the burner you just drop the clip and you push the rounds in the top like loading any semi Mantic handgun don't push down on this bar bar this is the the round retainer mechanism for the clip if you push it down every round inside the clip shoots out like a spring snake in a can there there's five rounds in here the orange followers dropped all the way to the bottom you can't put another round on top of all that so five is the limit unless you're going to put one in the chamber the round front of the clip lines up with the round front of the grip and it's ready to go so this has a CO2 cylinder inside five rounds in the clip but at this point if you pull the trigger it can't fire because it has not yet released the CO2 into the chamber to to launch the round placing the weapon on safe I think you can prepuncture the CO2 cylinder by pulling the trigger while it's on safe I haven't done so yet so we're going to try it together there's no round in the chamber but there are five rounds in the clip the weapon's on safe so I'm going to pull the trigger and we're going to see if the CO2 cylinder gets punctured there's a round in the clip now the safe is still on it doesn't matter how many times I pull it we get the same effect but you notice the noise changed significantly the first time I pulled it there was the pop of the pin engaging the CO2 cylinder and now it's completely silent because that goes FR of the rounds just fell out the nose but it's on safe at this time so setting up the UMX is totally different the cylinder goes in the bottom there's a spot for a hex key which is provided with the weapon in that box you take that plug out which has an o-ring on it and it's nice and sealed and greased I have a 12 G cylinder sitting inside the gun right now so this is one of the new ummer cylinders it's sealed you drop it in the opposite direction so that the puncture hole goes near the bottom of the grip and this will do the puncturing there's a little tiny needle inside there that I'm sure you can't see on the video but right in there is the puncturing needle put this in and screw it down it's easy to screw and unscrew at this moment but when there's pressure inside the grip from the release of the CO2 seal it's hard to get this back off again which is where the Allen key comes in when you're trying to swap out the CO2 canister later so at this moment also there's a CO2 canister inside the grip it's not open the weapon could sit just like this inert for as long as you want and it's not going to discharge the cylinder and have it leak out over time so you can keep this for a year two years I don't know how long before you actually need to fire it and nothing's going to change we have to load the weapon I I have the spring follower up out of the way six rounds inside the last one blocks the hole it's full release the follower you can see how many rounds you have there that's one of the things that's nice as you can tell how many rounds are left but you can't really see right through the burner and it's ready to go so where the Burna got its charge from me pulling the trigger and puncturing the cylinder and it's ready to fire right now as soon as I take it off safe the UMX is not ready to fire yet um if I pull the trigger now nothing's going to happen notice the safety kicks out of the way I can't pull it without pulling the trigger but nothing happens and no round falls out thank goodness but this is a spring-loaded cap and so when you're ready to use the weapon you hit the bottom and you can hear it pop this piece back here just popped out um little red knob that was flush with the weapon before and as soon as there's pressure inside the grip that pops out to let you know that it's ready to fire so at this moment if I pull that trigger releasing the safety with my finger it's going to release the rounds so both these weapons are ready to go as soon as I release the safe on the Burna or as soon as I pull the trigger safety on the UMX so now we're going to run a simple test I'm going to fire them into the same object from a close distance and see which one penetrates the furthest I've done a lot of this with cardboard boxes in the backyard and so I've got a a sense of it but I didn't really have anything that I felt had consistent penetration so what we're going to use is these cardboard drink crates right they are taped together and what's important about them is that in this first chamber here they have a single wall of cardboard double wall double wall double wall double wall double wall single wall and no other pieces of cardboard holding them together in between so I'm going to fire into this chamber um and I'm going to see how it penetrates with one weapon I'm going to move down 3 in and I'm going to fire also and then see how it penetrates just so we can see which one of these weapons at their delivery speed and the mass of their projectile goes the furthest and hopefully hurts the worst if anybody's bothering the person with the weapon before we test them a couple things about how they're delivered the UMX comes with a barrel sweep which is able to go in and clean out any debris that's inside the 50 caliber Barrel it also comes with a bunch of hard rubber balls these are a little different than the ones that I'm working with today because I bought a box of 99 so these are actually made out of rubber and these are hard plastic or maybe vinyl they're the same weight as far as I can tell but these are you can kind of feel your fingernail Dent into them you get 10 of these with the weapon inside the box and you also get 10 of these pepper rounds now the pepper rounds are this big right so I have some concerns about the amount of tear gas that's that's deployed when one of these breaks and also about how hard it is to break them I fired them against a brick wall in my backyard from 30 ft and they break just great and create a puff that's probably 2 ft wide out of the inert material because I bought these powder rounds so these are I hope the same shell as the tear gas rounds you can see it's a pretty rigid plastic but it does break along the line that splits it so I don't think you have to shatter this you just have to cause the two halves to separate and inside is baby powder which smells terrible but doesn't give you tear gas effects the burner by comparison comes with pepper rounds the regular pepper rounds are red and white and these are blue and green these are the burnum max they're supposed to be more painful than the regular rounds these cost almost five bucks a piece when you buy them online and the other rounds are a little bit cheaper and then the Bur comes with two clips um so you can keep one loaded with practice rounds one loaded with pepper rounds however you want to handle it okay let's get on with the test I'm going to fire the UMX first and I'm going to shoot it so that it's stabilized on the desktop and it's going to penetrate the box somewhere around here meanwhile I'm going to have my GoPro running at 240 frames per second it's the fastest high-speed video I've got available I have no idea how good the video is going to come out but we're going to give it to try after I fire the UMX I'm going to switch to another stable platform and then try the Burna on top of it so hopefully that round penetrates a little higher and then just to make sure that there's no difference in the stiffness low on the box I'll then fire the UMX at a higher position to see how the two different rounds compare okay first test shot with the ummer here we go now test firing the burnout switch the safety off the gas cylinder is already charged [Music] I'm going to test fire the UMX one more time to make sure firing wasn't biased by the low impact Point well that was an interesting result I mark Mark the three shots with U for the first UMX B for the Burna and U for the second UMX when you look down inside you can see the three holes the first umex hole was very low then the second Burna and then the second UMX and they all penetrated through the first level of cardboard the second level of cardboard next chamber you can see the exit hole that they each made going out of the first two layers and you can see that they each went through the second set other side they all Pok through the second side then this one now you only see two holes and I think that's because the first UMX went through the little Gap at the bottom which I didn't really predict so there's it the first UMX shot missed a layer of cardboard because there's a crack at the bottom that isn't completely sealed so there's only two holes here but all three rounds went through okay I turned it around for a better view so at the very bottom there you can see the Gap in the cardboard and so the first umer X round went through that and so the results aren't very comparable for the first round to the second and third then that UMX round bounced out um I'm not sure how it exited maybe the high-speed video shows it but it's not in the box so what you see taking the big picture is through the first wall the second and third the fourth and fifth the sixth and seventh you can see the umex and the Burna both punched holes through the other side next walls now you can see that the bottom UMX round the first shot went through so did the Burna and then so did the UMX but the Burna wound up in this chamber it stopped after going through the first two the second two the third and then and then it ended up in that chamber you see it just rolled through underneath right there the umex round which was fired third wound up in the last chamber it's the only one that actually punctured a hole through every layer and came out there even the UMX round that went low didn't puncture through at the bottom but that's probably because it had bounced out of the cardboard along its way so as a result kind of surprising the much lighter UMX round went into the very last chamber through all the walls and the burn around didn't get quite that far so in summary the form factor of the Burna is a little smaller than the UMX if you're trying to carry it in a small space this is a little easier to work with the Burna is really a top quality weapon it is it feels like a Glock it's got the weight and the the the feel and the fit and finish of a really nice handgun so I like it very much the UMX is really inexpensive and it's almost the same weight let's compare so the Burna with four rounds in the clip uh gas cylinder in there fired only once comes in at 19.3 o the UMX with five rounds remaining fired only once and a 12 G cylinder in the handle comes in at 24.4 o so they both feel wellmade and they both look very intimidating neither one of these feels like a plastic toy handgun I think I like the way the Burna cylinder Works a little more than I like this because I don't have to worry about popping this an emergency um all you have to do is drop the safety and pull the triggle and it will fire even if you didn't pre-charge the gas system by pulling the trigger in advance and I did this when I first got the weapon I pulled the trigger and shot the first ball and it worked great penetrated deep but I think the second round after penetrating the cylinder is a little more powerful this is a nicer weapon no way around it but for $79 this is a terrific weapon it's not that hard to activate you don't have to worry about fumbling with a safety um you don't have to worry about accidental discharge and my daughter likes the idea that it's orange cuz she doesn't want someone else to think that she's holding an actual handgun I like the idea that the Burna is black in this particular model and looks like a handgun because I want the guy bothering my kid to think that she's got a real weapon aimed at him but the only thing that concerns me about the UMX is the size of its round while it delivers plenty of pain in the hard plastic version I'm a little concerned about the amount of tear gas that's discharged from one of their tear gas balls and the ability of that ball to break against a softer Target like if you shoot somebody in the chest so I still think that if you have the money to spare this is absolutely worth the money but if you want to arm everyone you know with a tear gas launcher and not spend a ton of money doing it this is a great weapon the ability to put six of these rounds into someone's chest is going to light them up and if you intermittently load it with tear gas and hard rounds the pain they feel is going to cause them to suck in the tear gas when it breaks anyway so I like this very much I recommend it but this is still the premium weapon as the price explains so that's my comparison to the two pepper launchers I hope that helps you can hang up go away now but if you want to hang around just a second longer I'll show you what happened when I tried to use this with homemade ballistic jelly which I made out of lime Jello well I knew these weapons didn't have the kinetic energy to penetrate expensive ballistic jelly so I made symbolistic Jello-O I just took simple lime sugar sugar-free Jello U made about four packets of it and then put it in the fridge and then I put it in the freezer for a little while so at the moment this Jello-O is about 37° so I'm going to climb up over it because I don't want the jello to pour out onto my countertop and I'm going to fire one round from each weapon down into it I'm hovering straight over the jelly firing right down into it with my safety glasses on woo what a mess that was the UMX and now I'm going to try it with the Burna I hope it doesn't bounce up and hit me in the forehead well I used sugar-free Jello for that very purpose because I had a feeling it would get messy and now I don't have sugar everywhere but I mostly got it cleaned up however I wanted you to see where the rounds are inside the jello they may have gone down hit the bottom and bounce back up again I can't be sure and the highspeed video probably didn't catch it but here's the result of it anyway the burner round is sitting right there so did it go down and bounce off and bounce back up again I don't know the UMX round is sitting right there so if I was going to look at the difference I think that it's a little higher than the burner around but it may have just bounced off the bottom I hope you enjoyed that I'm just trying to pay things forward so that other people can learn from the stuff that I find out have a good day
