morning good morning good morning good morning good morning good morning good morning good morning it's time good morning good morning good morning [Music] thank you we sure hope that you played your part well we're going to play our part in uh just having a lively discussion on our cornerstone lesson and it will be led up by our teacher assigned to the lesson um sister tiffany graham so we are on lesson number we're on lesson number 12. number 12. man time is going by um isn't it yes we just started this lesson and already we are on lesson 12 next sabbath will be 13th sabbath all right the alabaster um jar you know usually we hear the alabaster box okay so the alabaster jar take us through that sister tiffany all right so the title for today is the alabaster jar i want to take a look at the key text for this week is taken from luke 7 verse 37 and 38. it says a woman in that town who live a sinful life learned that jesus was eaten at the pharisees house so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume she began to wet his feet with her tears then she wiped them with her hair kissed them and poured perfume on them amen we will dig deep this is overall what the this week's story is all about um what is the alabasta jar means to you guys the title well from from the context of the story um the alabaster jar and as sister brown says it's used in a different connotation this morning because we're used to the alabaster box um where um it's it signifies um and going in a little bit into the into the in the meat of the story where it signifies where um mary the the key text says the woman but in um john's account he identified her by name right where mary um took a year's what they what what was what was noted is that the the the cost of the alabaster jar was a year's salary and and she was trying to do a innocent task in terms of um what jesus meant to her but because of i guess the worth of the perfume makes it um a lot more um it has more a room and it's more important and more value so so the uh the alabaster jar here represents where at what what is too important for me to give to christ so that's what that represents to me what is it that is in my life that is too important for me to give to christ as as a gift for his goodness to me amen and i'll just piggyback on that i'm glad he spoke first because then i'm inspired um you know the story of mary is one of my favorite stories and i read this book by doug batchelor once that talks about mary at the feet of jesus and it was written in the first person account from mary's point of view and it was amazing how he described how mary when she went to get this thing because she was trying to think about what can i get to show my appreciation for the master and she went to as the book dictates she went to the store in in the city right and she asked the the the person like what what do you have and what is your most valuable item and the person looked at her and i was like you can't afford this you know this is top-notch and said listen i am willing to pay everything give everything i have and i don't know if he wrote from the pen of inspiration if that if he got some of his that's dog bachelor that have some of his understanding from the pin of inspiration but the way he ca he took that um point out that she gave everything and cameron brought it out by saying a year's salary that she was willing and and the story talked about even judah say what a waste but so much money because just the smell of the the perfume alone told them the value of it and so i echo kimroy's sentiment that when it comes on to jesus and our giving because you know what he has done for you and i think mary knew what god had done for her you know because you know the story of when she was about to be stoned right and um she was caught in the act of adultery and um jesus wrote on the on the uh in the sand and said need and when then he said to her neither will i condemn you to hear that kind of um a word and ever since then she has been following jesus so she's grateful and remember jesus was the one who also rose her brother lazarus from the dead so she had so much to give god thanks for but before all of this i think in this the this um story um they kind of touch on her in a different view because she was in that state a sinner so jesus hadn't had that relationship yet with her but however when she came and i'll do a summary of the story so that everybody can be filled in and this the setting of the story jesus was having dinner the pharisees were the pharisees yes simon's house and um he was reclined at the table and this woman mary comes in and in in luke's account it says that mary um was washing his feet with her tears and she was wiping it with her hair she began to kiss his feet and then she poured the perfume over it now in the story a part of the story also um simon as if he was not pleased because he's saying do jesus really know who this woman is this sinful woman you know and that everybody know she was you know what was known as a prostitute and she's if jesus really know who she is he wouldn't even allow her to even touch him and is he was saying it to himself but jesus heard and responded to simon well it wasn't even just simon actually it was yes everybody there was a lot of them because you had a jews there it was a big celebration going on and everyone wanted to heard about the feast at simon house as well and um as you rightly say they they were so much hush um around well not even hush just whispers whispers and ellen white says that when mary was at the feet of jesus doing all that you just said tiffany she too was hearing it and she was about to leave she had some apprehension yes she was ashamed she began to feel embarrassed yeah and this pen of inspiration even say that she was thinking that maybe jesus himself would start to rebuke her right right so so even it touched on it in the lesson too that's why i wanted to touch on mondays it was really deep you wanted to touch on a little bit of it yes so so i think also the the the the flashlight the flashlight section of it um when i read the flashlight section um there's actually a question that came to mind let me read the flashlight then yeah right and then i'll i'll tell you where where my question is and someone can find matthew 6 3. okay um christ delighted in the earnest desire of mary to do the will of her lord he accepted the wealth of pure affection which his disciples did not would not understand the desire that mary had to do the service for her lord was of more value to christ than all the precious ointment in the world because it expressed her appreciation of the world's redeemer it was the love of christ that constrained her yes the matchless excellence of the character of christ filled her soul that ointment was a symbol of the heart of the giver it was the outward demonstration of a love fed by heavenly streams until it overflowed amen go ahead go ahead camera i know you're itching go ahead you know when when i read this the the thought that came to mind is oftentimes we're cultured for like a better word matthew 6 verse 3 reads but when thou dwest arms meaning giving gifts yeah um let not thy left hand know what thy right and do it yeah so the contrast that that came out of the the flashlight section is is it okay yeah i'm gonna ask the viewers is it okay for us to in giving or best to christ to have a private matthew 6 3 approach or do we have a mary's approach i know initially mary but it's the alabaster the perfume is what kind of exposed mary in in her in in her but christ also backed up what she was doing right say hey listen your your anointing me before they crucify me see all them people here they're they're here to crucify me so you're actually giving me that while i'm alive i said don't don't give me rose give me roses while i'm alive don't give it to me so again going back to ellen g white's account um in the desire of ages it also points out that it's important for me and i and i was and as i was driving though so they could share it with us so viewers i think brother turner is asking us what approach do we make when it comes on to christ do we take a matthew 6 3 approach where you do not use show your arms or your gift um you know before men in a boastful manner or do you do it in um that's a humble way or do you do it in a more ex i must say exalted i'm not saying mary was being exalted but do you do it in a way in public where you know like a merry approach where you had a whole lot of people there um what do you think which is the better approach amen and and and 30 seconds sister tiffany i'm done one of the one of the other things that also um a thought that came to mind in in that same approach where in in listening to to ellen g white's approach of how mary and jesus's answer to her and just a full explanation of it is it's important for me yeah to express that that desire of or that appreciation of whether it's my wife my daughter my coworkers my fellow um evangelists here missionaries that that appreciation should be expressed while they're alive and they can appreciate it as opposed to we see oftentimes coffin peel out here and people stand here crying their their eyes out i'm not judging anyone because i don't know what their interaction with that individual was but that is no use to them at that point so that was one of the things that kind of kind of got me this morning as i was um listening again to to um to ellen g white's um full account of of this interaction with christ and mary amen amen mary going to jesus jesus actually responded to mary um and with that he forgave her um of her sins yes he even did in the story there was a parable did you guys saw the parable and there he come compared the the debtor have one that has 50 and one has the 100 yes and he says to sign 500 one has 500 and one has 50. and he said if the debtor um both of them had a debt and neither of them could have paid back their debt one um more than the other however the debt the debtor forgave both of them and wiped their depth clean he said to simon which one of them would have received or more appreciation or and he said of course the one with the more the more depth um what did you think why did why did jesus use that parable in comparison to mary's current situation what i think um two things was happening there christ was was reading simon simon's expression in terms of what is this lady crazy does she realize what she just did she just use a year's um wages to spill on this guy's feet um is she aware of what she is doing and and secondly what crisis is i think christ is also doing a um there's a word i'm looking for is is trying to to to let simon know there's a word that fills all of this search no he's trying to to to let simon be of be aware of his thought because simon wasn't saying it out loud so he was also making simon aware that hey listen man i know your thoughts right and i'm going to allow you to be the judge of your own character right and it's the same thing that um i think neyman and um neiman had done to david neyman use the same analogy but in this case um christ had sent name and to david say hey listen a guy has one sheep and you have a thousand i don't remember the context of this but it was synonymous with that that interaction so that's where christ was allowing me to be the judge of me as opposed to him coming down and say listen man i think you're wrong in in in your in your in your judgment even though it's a thought amen and to follow up um on the question to sister tiffany i can't the only debt i could can think of is my student loan so i'm trying to bring it home the relief i had when i decided to just pay my student loan off was a great relief and when i went into education they have something called educators forgiveness you know and somehow i wasn't i wasn't getting it and i wish i had gotten it so i'm thinking in terms of the parable that jesus used i had a large amount a day you had a small amount you could pay it off yes it's small but both of us are forgiven who would be more appreciative i would because i know how long it probably would have taken me to pay this debt or i know how um hope when i owe you something and i can't do it so here it is oh yeah mary in this situation christ had forgiven her um from the moment when he she was caught in adultery and he said neither do i condemn you go and sin no more and she took it she listened she she started to follow jesus right when he was um crying and when weeping over jerusalem mary was there she became an avid follower of jesus so she was convicted um and so i think christ knowledge her conviction in that parable right right and so yes to show to them who are there say i can i'm hearing your thoughts right now but this woman you see in front of you is a convicted um well um converted person right she's truly converted in her in in of her ways and as a result she recognized the depth yes taker the person who took away she recognized the son of god right and so she is a mary heard the spirit of prophecy she didn't know what she was really doing because it was a holy spirit that also led her right there yes the holy spirit led her to do what she was doing um but it's it's it's affirmation to her i think jesus information that i recognize i recognize your effort i recognize your movement and i think it's important it's important and it touched on the question that you asked as well why did you think mary would have done something so publicly nevertheless her sinful ways are such of the public everyone knew so in private yes the lord had forgiven her but the holy spirit had led her in the midst of everyone in the midst of the shame in the midst of the waste she was feeling she didn't get up even when she felt doubt she didn't get up i like that even in the midst of in her circumstances because she know she knew that the lord the gospel that jesus had presented to her she believed she had faith that he was going to grant her the desires of our hearts he wouldn't have gone in that place amen but you know to even have gone to simon halls was a big thing for mary no because many people well i'm not even going to go into the store yes simon because simon did some things to marry it yes and so for her to even show up go to that host it took it took a whole lot but she had she was determined yes to make it to jesus yes and she knew a lot of people were there as you said and they knew her sin so to be right there was something that is the reason why when when jesus heard the mumble and the murmuring he gave reassurance to them that in the midst even though to you in your eyes she's a sinful woman but the greater the sin yeah okay and you'll hear it forget her harry wants you and everywhere across the world correct her name will you know i'm thinking about your question more with the kimroy and i'm looking in the chat to see if people have um responded as yet how do we show our love for god publicly or privately and i think it depends yes because publicly as sister tiffany says you're showing the world that you're a changed person yes that could be in the case of baptism right but so often because of our past we are afraid to come and express our love for christ in public because our past still hold us down and somehow in the congregation somebody know that i was uh or i was a womanizer or i was this or that and as a result it keeps us down yes you know so this is an example that even in public you're supposed to proclaim your love for jesus no matter what the mass is regardless also sometimes the holy spirit will also lead you and yes we have to be in tune with the holy spirit so that you're led to publicly declare or show show your gift that you're giving or show your love for jesus in whatever means and there's also the time when there's certain things that you got to keep in the closet as well yes when you're when you're you know prior exactly it her we we are right we haven't touched anything on the list too hot off our topic it's too hot of a topic i really want to touch that punch line the first punch line um coming from isaiah 29 verse 13 it says the lord says these people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips but their hearts are far from me their worship of me is based on merely rules they have been taught who you think he was talking about when when the church people there is no no the truth the truth and who are the jewish sister brown um if you want to be politically correct where the church the jews in the today's day and age yes church people amen amen you know what um sister tiffany i'm not what do you think has a prayer in it yes it does with with uh um with some filling in the blanks yeah yeah yeah i'll fill them in yeah we can fill them in the mirrors brother house and comment um he says notice in verse 37 of luke's account it said who lived a sinful life who was a sinner in the king james version past tense but in verse 39 simon said she is a sinner people sometimes judge us based on our past and you hear that english scholar english teacher was and is simon say who lived or was a sinful life and here's simon the critique those who are ready to pull you down living in the past right in the past simon the pharisees pharisees yes here i'm not going to say the past no we can't say that okay let us pray yeah let's let's let's just what do you think what do you think all right it says dear god i worship you you are blank you're an amazing god you're a forgiving god i know that you created are my all you are my all yes amen i know that you created me you knit me together and nobody else in the universe has my unique blank my unique abilities yeah abilities okay thank you for the blessing you shower you shower upon me thank you for blank for giving me all of these things okay thank you for blank accepting me okay blessed me amen thank you for blank providing for me protecting me when i think about what an awesome god you are all i can say is thank you jesus all right i'm grateful i love you your child melody tiffany kim roy amen amen thank you guys so much for joining us this week for our lesson i hope that you were truly blessed um and we have learned something and i want you all to know that no matter how big of a sinner you are think you are i think you are it's nothing is ever too big for god's forgiveness amen amen amen all right we're going to transition over into our adult lesson review thank you so much brother kim roy thank you tiffany preacher this morning and teacher for reminding us about how important it is for us to remain loving and faithful to christ as we transition i leave with this question with you it's in friday's lesson it says given that acts of love and reverence for jesus are an evidence of faith in him what have you done lately that demonstrates your faith in jesus think on these things [Music] good morning good morning good morning and happy sabbath everyone thank you for joining the lighthouse seventh-day adventist church uh we thank uh the the team that will just did the youth lesson and uh we are here now for this uh adults section elder good morning to you and happy sabbath good morning and happy sabbath to you as well how was your week your weekend it was wonderfully good god has been good all right because safely through another week he has brought me from here we know we know that song well yes all right uh so to begin elder we are gonna go into an opening word of prayer i'm gonna ask you to lead with the prayer and then we'll begin let us bow our heads love and father in heaven it is with grateful hearts and gratitude that we approach your divine majesty we come this morn with a humble heart with a penitent mind seeking your divine wisdom knowledge and understanding we pray that father that the lessons that we have studied you in the course of this week that you will write these things up on the tables of our hearts that we will live about in our daily lives help us lord that as we learn from these things we will do the things that you have commissioned us to do thank you for hearing thank you for exceeding our askings these verses we do humbly ask in jesus name we pray amen amen all right so elder um you know you normally have a commentary on our picture so we'll do that but i'm going to ask you to um you know give us our memory text yes and then you can talk to us about a pictorial lesson before we begin all right yes and the memory text is asking a question should i not pity netiva that great city in which more than one thousand and twenty three thousand persons who cannot discern between their right and and their left and much livestocks all right all right give us some opening comments now well the opening comments first of all i noticed the topic is called a restless prophet yes and i would also put my little um idea to that topic yes jonas great big splash okay jonah's great big splash i may use that for a sermon title yeah yeah yeah good servant and it just goes to show that when god has a work to do and he says that whether or not you are supportive of it whether or not you agree with it when god has a message and has a particular person for that message then god is not going to back down right because you take a look um where jonah was right we're down in the southern kingdom right guys have people up in the northern kingdom um nineveh was closer to those people in the northern kingdom right right but god has a reason right why he wanted jonah and we will take a look at that reason as we go on in this lesson all right so as you hear folks we are going to be looking at um you know in looking at this week's this past week's lesson we're dealing with jonah um it's important that you look at the book of jonah to get a better perspective as we study the lesson remember to interact with us on youtube and facebook interact with us meaning say some things in the chat window you have a question or comment i'll do my best to acknowledge it i'm watching it here all right so you do the talking elder a little watching okay i'll i'll talk every now and then all right so in sunday now um before before your jumbo just on there just let me just look at this okay why would a prophet of god become a restless prophet that he's described in this lesson right you see what has happened jonah believed to himself right that those people up in universe right they did not worth saving right so he came to the conclusion that why god wanted me to go up there to preach to them right so that they can be converted jonah already make up his mind that there they were not worth saving so jonah wanted not to go up there jonah decided to take the opposite direction so his restlessness was brought on by himself it wasn't god by himself all right by himself we as individuals today have to be careful right that when god gives us an instructions we cannot resist right because if he insists that you're going to do it he will calmly see just for us to get it done all right all right so so you know let's let's look at sunday and and i think that gives us a good way to jump into the lesson study running away yes right so yeah when we when we see a topic like this and if you took the time to study the lesson of course we're dealing with jonah and the fact that god gave him some specific instructions yes and when you see a topic like this you're thinking of someone else oh yeah somebody not listening to god or somebody running into um doing their own thing but this is a prophet of god this is a that's the key word there a prophet of god prophet of god in other words that there are times when we don't feel to do certain things right but the urgency of the destruction that was coming to nineveh right god wanted this thing to be done right then and there and you see what happened when jonah found himself in that ship right it was not john alone needed and that the people of netvalo needed that message right john himself right needed that message that's true but look at who got converted the maritals those people who are on a ship they at that time when they throw jonah over sea overboard and see that the sea becomes calm they become converted i want to serve jonah's god right is do you think well can you talk about some of the ways in which we run whether it's in the in something big or small or you know in in terms of how we conduct ourselves yes know as christians or seventh-day adventist christians because we can a lot of times we look at a story like jonah yes right or biblical stories right and you know we just put it off as the past and we believe that somehow we're in a different category or a better category than these individuals right but are we running from god and you know how do we do this i tell you one other thing yeah when you look at bible history right first of all last week's lessons talk about those people coming out of egypt right that time when they were coming out of egypt it was in the year 1491 bc now this time it is 868 bc jonah was running right in other words jonah would have had a vivid knowledge and memory and understanding of what took place out of egypt and realized that if you don't do what god wants you to do you can punish and be perished just like all those people who came out right of egypt so jonah should have been very conscious that god wanted a message to be done uh don't complain don't murmur just do what he asked you to do i think in terms of the question that was posed good comments by the way but in terms of the comments that was um a question that was posed by the author here talking about jonah deciding to run yes and he was under the impression that he was gonna find peace yes right and i think sometimes we get into that situation where i don't know you know it's just it's as sinful human beings as sinful creatures we believe that once we go away from god or go away from his will go away from his call right we'll find peace i i think the world the world often times preaches that but we understand that you know the world doesn't have that understanding of god is it possible to find peace when you're running away from god well i tell you what has happened it was that genuine peace that jonah found what was in the belief [Laughter] jonah regretted every moment of being inside that fish right and that fish believed that jonah was so despicable in spit him out yeah okay all right yes all right so i guess the long and short of it it's not possible to find peace when you're running away you're gonna be restless genuine peace cannot be found that way whether you know you you're you're a seventh-day adventist christian you're not living up to that life um you know individuals at work or your neighborhood know you as a um a person who's miserable or a person who's just always fighting and all these different things all right i think we have to we have to make the application not just well god sent a message and i and he told me to go preach yes and i didn't preach i think we have to make those smaller applications as well in terms of being obedient to god and when we're not we're gonna find ourselves in problems remember to leave a comment as well brethren let me know what your thoughts are what you're thinking we're dealing with running away that's sunday all right so um a three-day rest yes we're going to still or well i don't know if you had anything else you wanted no that's good yeah okay all right so moving to monday now yes a three-day rest right yes um so he ran away yes we know that yes um you know he was in that ship yes all right and uh things didn't go out too well god god decided to step in yes all right and uh the the lessons talking about the three-day rest of course he got swallowed by the fish yes but you made some comments regarding to um the people that were on that that boat yes right talk to us again about it they found true rest as opposed to jonah okay repeat that again elder before you found the tourist as opposed to jonah talk to us what do you mean by that because what has happened as i mentioned that jonah's big splash right when jonah hit that water right jonah was hoping that his life would have been ended right there okay and everything would have been over and done with it right right but he does not understand the god that we serve if we serve a god of the impossibilities right so why would a fish be prepared to take jonah's um and to spear his life right jonah found himself in resting in the belly of a fish which was not a good rest right because jonah feel that he was in the middle of hell right at that time yeah and so as a result of that he did not find that rest that he was seeking right and so god wanted us and him to know that if you try to run away from me right i can get you to do what i want you to do even if you are totally opposed to it and and also you know in in in going back to the fact that the individuals god used this individual who jonah being disobedient and used this bad situation right yes to save some other people yes i i like i like that aspect as well yes um yes he's running uh but god is still able to use yes right god was still able to um save some lives yes and they came those sailors decided that they're gonna worship the true god of heaven right um jonah was swallowed by by that fish yes and he he came to himself didn't he oh yeah he was forced he was forced to do that right you know he was supposed to do that yes god has to do that with us sometimes is that when i tell one of these knock in and knock some sense into us yeah we and he will do it you know right right yeah one of the things that we have to bear in mind that when god has a message right tell to any human being every single one of us must see ourselves as a type of jonah right because if you don't do what because god did not could have called some other people no but god called one of his servants we are god's servants today and if we are not careful right we would be running away as jonah did not realize that we are running right because if we fail to warn the people right then we are in a sense truth and running away from the message that god has for the people out there what do you can can you say some things to us about um the prayer in chapter two of jonah you know he was he mentioned in there that as the author brought out talking about the temple yes the author is suggesting that it's not the um literal temple but it's the the temple in heaven why is jonah um directing now his his thoughts in that direction is you know what what's what what do you think's going on in his mind jordan know about the church yeah as you and i were today right there are times when things happen to us one of our first reflection is upon the church right how can the church people pray for me right what can the church do for me jonah prayer was not as genuine as it should have been right but jonah was in a situation where the church and where the temple of god's presence is jonah began to focus about that right because the mere father jonah was still alive in a billion fish god did not take away his senses right god let him keep his senses to know that you are not at a good place right so as a result of that jonah's prayer was not as genuine as we thought it should have been because if you look at jonah's prayer also in chapter four right it also tells you that jonah would not was not fully converted even after that right of time yes um somebody's saying online here that you can run but you can hide especially from god it says peyton kelly but i think it's uh the adult kelly's that are saying this right but uh thank you very much for that well i'll tell you what has happened uh-huh jonah was trying to hit the spain you know right that's where jonah was heading yeah he was trying to head there what jonah was feeling that he would have been able to put his foot up and relax right and get away from this trouble right he must have been brushes his sweat and said boy i get away from that one not knowing that god's hand was in all of this before right because upon that sea that troublesome water right where the fear of even those mariners became so fearful right that they themselves begin to say well then this is totally unusual when they absurd the bottom of the ship they fall in this man down here sleeping because they cannot think of any other reason why the she was so bicerous and and and once again i think you know when people are going through some some terrible things in life or you know it could be somebody lose a limb uh somebody got into a terrible car accident and things of that nature we don't understand what god is doing sometimes we can't right our thought is not his right you know he he he we're looking from the outside you know god is looking at the past present and future yes and he makes his decisions right so when people are going through some things that's why it's important for us to pray with them and encourage them and things of that nature because we don't know what god is trying to work out in this particular case not only was god trying to save nineveh but god is also trying to save jonah a prophet yes a prophet yes god is trying to save his prophet and so we are today as jonah we have to see ourselves as a type of jonah right because if we are not careful right we would find ourselves in that same situation refusing to do what god has commissioned us to do as his children right yes okay so in in in um moving on to tuesday's lesson right yes mission accomplished yes um let me give us you know jonah chapter three jonah chapter three uh you know the bible tells us the people of nineveh after jonah preached right um jonah began to go into the city jonah three verse four and going a day's journey he called out yet forty days nineveh shall be overthrown verse five and the people of nineveh believe god they call for a fast and put sackcloth and ashes sorry put on sackcloth from the greatest of them to the least of them yes right hence the title of tuesday's lesson mission accomplished now eller you know i mean i'm a pastor and uh just like many other pastors in this conference and around the world and uh you know when i preach i want to people to come to the lord oh yes i want something like this you know i want to know that when i preach a lot of people come to the lord right um that was one thing that that touched me here but i mean this was a wicked city yes and all you know the bible didn't go into details in terms of how long the sermon was or you know it just said that he got straight to the point and they just decided to to turn to god yes there are just so many things that we can pull out of that as we as seven-day adventists are now existing and we have a world that doesn't know god yet you know talk to us about some of these things that is a key point a word who does not know god right but the world is waiting to hear something right because god would never punish or destroy anyone right except there's a warning is given and this is very clear as we have seen here yeah so when you look at the title the topic here mission accomplished whose mission accomplished was it jonah's mission accomplished well no he had another mission but we but god's mission was accomplished god's mission was accomplished right and god will use any method that he wants to accomplish his thing right you notice the first first sermon that jonah preached he did not they probably didn't even give us any instructions that those people needed a second sermon right immediately they became converted if they were king himself the the king even put out a statement that even the very animal animal even the animals even the animal everybody's going fasting in other words that the animal should comply right with this message that has just come to them so in other words what god is saying here right that there are some people out there pastor that needed to hear this message right this gospel of the kingdom must be preached in all the world and if this message is not going out there right we are in a sense running away from it right but we are giving a platform we are giving a message to tell to the world let us not show from those responsibilities because we will become a type of jonah if we are not doing what god has wanted us to do i want to ask you another question but let me acknowledge here sister carol cohen yes and her and her and her note and thanks to sister cohen and by the way folks flood us you know with messages and comments you know let us know interact with us right um sister cohen said this jonah flees from doing god's will but not uh but god pursues him because he wants to use him nonetheless yeah but i'll tell you one other thing though jonah saw salvation was in jeopardy as well right god wanted to save him so in other words it is a twofold message we're going to get to that we're going to get to that but just acknowledging sister cohen and and the fact that um you know he's running from god but god is running after him yes you know there's so many powerful things that we can pick out of that and that's the kind of god that we serve we are always running it's sinful see we're sinful creatures constantly running from god right yes ever since adam and eve fell that's what we've been doing but the picture that the bible paints of the god that we love and serve is that he will never give up on us that is the point we will continue to pursue us right so that is a powerful point um from sister cohen but in terms of um going back to nineveh right before we get to um wednesday's lesson going back to nineveh and the fact that um they they decided to change okay he this is what that was while i was just trying to gather my thoughts there to see what i'm trying to um ask you how should we be treating people as we see them in everyday society should we write them up we see somebody drinking we see somebody smoking we see somebody cast up in us in an immoral lifestyle right um you know are we guilty of being jonas or you know as you've said you know rightfully so we should see um ourselves as jonas yes when we are not obedient to god's will but i want you to drill down on the whole idea of what we ought to be doing as seven-day adventist christian as we interact yes with the world so i'll bring in another first to mention that every people in nineveh right was the potential for god's a candidate for god's kingdom but they ate pork they worshipped idols yes they were killers yes but they still are a potential for his kingdom you're messing up my theology yeah yeah there are potential for god's kingdom right but what has happened there are times when people are doing things out there ignorantly they don't know better right because if you read that memory text carefully those people did not know they're right and different from their left right so in other words if we now begin to see some people out there that they are so evil that they're all so wicked it may come to us well and those people will never be saved in god's kingdom so let us write them off we are writing them off right but we can't do that because god has a way sometimes of even before evil became a christian yes god was after us right you know because he did not save us he did not say well then you change and become a christian before i accept you yeah yeah while we were yet sinner christ died so christ died for us while we were in our sins and though when we begin to realize this is us us to come out of our sinful ways right and that is a message to all people right that we come across today that we must see every human being as a potential for god's um you're messing me up elder you're messing me up man but it's okay you're you're helping me to grow in my christian walk um doreth francis we sometimes run away from god but god is so loving and and merciful and and his mercy is so great if we pray god god's hands are open to receive us all right thank you sister francis for that and thank you elder for the comments on um on on uh what was it there on mission was it mission accomplished yes all right so we're at wednesday now almost time for us to end an angry restless missionary right yes all right um you know if you read you know just the chapter the book of jonah is not is not a long book you know he's in the minor prophet category so jonah was upset that god saved nineveh yes once again elder i will remind you this is a prophet of god yes god called this prophet yes to go preach to a city that could potentially be destroyed yes because of their wickedness god saved them yes but the man of god was upset yes talk to me elder you continue messing me up because you know so what has happened is that even god's people can get into a temperature and trump tantrum at times we sometimes yeah believe that what we are doing we are so right and so perfect in what we are doing but god's words and thoughts and actions are completely different from us right we don't know why god wanted no no uh never to be saved right i mean we know he wanted to save every human being but god wanted every human being to have an opportunity right to be a candidate for his kingdom right and so as a result of that jonah has become very angry and very restless right because jonah prayed several times for his own death you know sometimes some people will say but why didn't he just kill himself right but jonah also have an understanding that if you go and kill yourself then everything is is already gone from you right you know you'll have no chance in the second resurrection right but jordan would have known that so as a result of that jonah wanted god to take his life right then if anything can say well and god it was you who took my life and not me to get myself so as a result of that we must be careful that sometimes we don't get into this temperature because we can be doing things that god wanted us to do and we refuse to do it we have to accept his leading and his guidance and directions the um you know jonah chapter 4 verse 1 actually verse 1 says it displeased jonah exceedingly yes and he was angry yes tentachon trouble yeah you know i mean i i that it's just amazing to me but then again we're living in the in in the 21st century and it's not like we don't see these things right follow a follower of god and we just have to put ourselves just interject ourselves in there a follower of god is upset yes that god is willing to save people yes but what god as we said earlier came in and saved us yes when we weren't following isn't it incredible that now that we're following god we have a different mindset yeah i know i it's just i tell you one other thing you know there is no human being upon planet earth right want to be lost right nobody right but we would do everything to prevent god from saving us but god keep pursuing us all the time right because you see god knows something that we don't know god the bible tells us it never enter into the hearts of man right what god has prepared for us up there right if we would have come to the full understanding of what has been prayer for us maybe we would have acted a little differently right but now god knows the plan for what he has for us and that plan is to save us into his everlasting kingdom amen all right we're gonna go we only have a five minutes i was told left uh maybe less now but i gotta read a couple comments here um peyton kelly um jonah was only about condemning because of what he knew of nineveh but god was about saving because of what he knew of nineveh powerful sister cohen says god's ways are higher than ours he does things we don't understand the problem is that we want to dictate to god amen and hallelujah to that we can never go for them god's um presence peace on on on the depth of his love you know right we as mortal human being yeah we can only think that we understand but we can further the depth of his love for every human being when jesus came to this earth right jesus came to die for the sinner and those who think that they were not sinners right jesus came to die for instance you take a look at this two-way street two ways right right what's that talking about there now look at this here jesus was going back to jerusalem okay this final journey about yeah because jesus knew his time was coming when his life was going to be taken right jesus sent two of his disciples let me look at the two people that he said james and john right now james is also a stepbrother of jesus you know james a step brother of jesus james was the one who runs the church at that time in jerusalem god sent these two men to go let those people know that he's passing through right they went when they got there they've and and made the statement that jesus was coming the people said oh they don't want him to come right when those two men came back to jesus you see the requests that they made why don't we call fire call fire [Laughter] to come down yes upon those people and destroy them right now what's the difference between those two disciples of jesus and jonah you know they're almost in the same boat right right but god mission right must be accomplished god did not come to destroy what god come to save he came to save yes amen amen all right okay um that's a two-way street in terms of thursday's um lesson there so the two-way street just back up quickly right that it was not for the people of nineveh alone but for jonah for jonah as well god was trying to save jonah and he's saved nineveh and he saved jonah in the process as well because he needed the man of god needed conversion yes all right yes all right folks um we've come to the end of our adult lesson um thank you very much for watching uh elder can you give us the closing prayers yes let us pray our father god we are thankful unto thee for these messages and these lessons as we have studied them lord we ask that you will let us understand the full depth of your love let us know that how loving and forgiving you are and that you want to save us into everlasting kingdom lord we pray that we will take a page from out of these things and that we will live them out in our daily lives that you love us and you care of us and you want to save us bless us now as we study these lessons help us lord that we will continue to do the work that you have called us to do that when you come you will say to us coming blessed of my father thank you for hearing thank you for exceeding our askings these mercies we don't humbly ask in jesus name we pray amen okay thank you to pastor and elder lindsey we're now going to go into our primary and junior lesson the primaries by mckenna and the juniors by gyro [Music] good morning and happy sabbath my name is mckenna and this is our primary lesson for sabbath september 18 2021 this message for week 12 lesson is we can worship our awesome god every day our memory verse is taken from john 14 verse 1 do not let your hearts be troubled you believe in god believe also in me my name is joshua and as i walked between the rows of tents i smiled at the families i passed but i didn't stop to talk i needed some exercise i needed time alone to think so many amazing things had happened in the past few days as i quickly reached the edge of the camp my steps got even longer as i headed back across the field i walked on until i had a good view of the jordan river then i stopped and just looked the river was flooded and dangerous but the israelites were all safely across and in the promised land once again our awesome god had seen us through my people had just finished celebrating the passover soon it would be time to move on but moving on was scary my people the israelites had powerful enemies and new land i slowly turned in a circle and studied the great walded city of jericho big tall wall thick walk how small my israelite camp looked with jericho's walls towering above them [Music] i had no idea what to do how was i going to lead the army of israel against the mighty city we had no fancy weapons of war i shuddered to think of my poorly trained soldier whose side are you on ours are our enemies neither i am here as the commander of the lord's army that was the lord himself i'm your servant sir what do you want me to do take your sandals off you are standing on holy ground what a relief i had been thinking about battle plans i had imagined there was to be a war and i would be the general in charge but now i learned that the battle was the lord's the plan were already made and the lord was in charge i did not have to bear the heavy responsibility of leadership all alone the lord was here my awesome god was with me go morning church my name is jared and this is the sabbath school that's a review named inside out the power text is the lord does not look at the things people look at people look at the outward appearance but the lord looks at the heart first samuel 16 verses 7. the story is jesus told samuel to go out and find the new anointed king he told he told samuel to go over to jesse's house and do it when jesse got to the house oh i met when samuel got to the house he told jesse to line up the children one by one from oldest to the youngest from the oldest he saw that there weren't being how he wanted them to be and how god wanted them to be either so when he got what he was going like one by one and got to the end of the conversation with each of the boys he figured out that samuel was going to be the united king and then samuel got anointed okay thank you jaron and mckenna um we're now going to go into our remember when segment when camera would take us way back when [Music] i really wanna hear the story [Music] [Music] a trip down memory lane in terms of my upbringing as a seventh-day adventist i'm actually from a home of three brothers my mom and dad my mom goes to new testament church my dad from an early age and it was it was it was a lot of fun were involved in impact finders and so on and so forth after which i when i grew up a little bit older i started to go to work that's where i got baptized in rodney samuel's crusade he was the youngest evangelist at that time on the island and it was it was it was quite a spiritual walk so fast forward to now um goddess allowed me at this time to to see and experience a lot of different things and i must say it's just the goodness of god and relating to different individuals where you can see yourself from where you were and where god has grown to so i encourage our young people to hold on to god and change he won't let you down and keep doing what you're doing and allow god to use you in whatever way okay thank you i hope you guys enjoyed our junior and primary lesson and i remember when and also our adult cyber school and our youth power hour we're now going to go into our divine hours segment but we're going to pray before we do that dear heavenly father thank you for bringing us here today lord i ask that somebody was blessed and we got something out of what we broadcast today lord i ask that you would the people that are on their way here that you give them travel and mercies and the people that are online that they will learn some new lord jesus name i pray amen [Music] um [Music] hello everyone pastor kenton parent here i hope all is well with you and i hope you're staying strong in the lord just want to encourage you with a passage of scripture here genesis chapter 15 and verse 1. we're dealing with a lot of things in this world and it's good to know that we have the word of god that we can turn to to give us hope and inspiration the bible says this after these things the word of the lord came to abram in vision fear not abram i am your shield your reward shall be great i am your shield your reward shall be great now the first part of verse one says after these things if you should go over one chapter chapter 14 uh it tells us about lots being taken with his family and some of the people or all of the people of solomon gomorrah some other kings and from some other nations came together and they decided that they were going to attack and that they were going to destroy and that they were going to take people as prisoners word got to abraham that this happened and his nephew lot is a part of this terrible situation abraham went out fought won took back his family took back his family's family and everyone else that were uh who were taken as captives now fast forward to chapter 15 the bible says god comes to abraham and he says to fear not now you know their abraham is living in a place where war is always imminent um you know all types of trials all types of pressures he's living amongst people who have a different uh belief system than he does they serve other gods he serves the god of heaven and earth and uh you know he has his own family and he has challenges that he has to deal with in his family he has to provide all these different things he was told by god to go somewhere and he wasn't too certain as to where he's gonna go and how god is gonna work these things out so god is telling him fear not and there are a lot of things in this world right now that can make us fear make us worry make us concerned right and uh you know we hear the voice of god just the same talking to us fear not but here's what god didn't just tell him fear not and leave it there um god says to abraham this is why you shouldn't fear because i am your shield and your reward will be great that's what makes all the difference in the world you know god is calling us not to fear because he is the one who will be a shield a protector if you please he's the one who will be there to provide food for us provide shelter for us keep our children safe while they're in school provide tuition and you know whatever um financial expenditures we must make god is there to supply these things uh he will he's there to supply us with clothes on our backs and shoes on our feet right he says i'm your shield and if individuals or people or things in this world threaten us right he is our shield he's our shield he will protect us from these individuals and from these things seen or unseen right it doesn't matter what the situation is it doesn't matter what the challenge is it doesn't matter what the crisis is just like abraham god is saying to us i'm your shield and your reward will be great he will bless us with things that we didn't even ask for god is just gonna be good to us simply because we are his children thank you for listening thank you for watching may god continue to keep you remember this only what you do for christ will last god bless [Music] happy sabbath once again everyone we are called safe at last [Music] the memory verse is from john chapter 14 verse 2 it says in my father's house are many rooms if it were not so i would have told you i am going there to prepare a place for you today's message is church is a place of refuge where we can worship together marla was in trouble big trouble she had accidentally dropped a whole box of eggs what a mess well there was nothing else to do she had to tell her mother and clean up the floor it was an accident mom she began i didn't mean to drop the eggs honest i didn't i know that marla responded her mother i'm just glad it happened in the kitchen where the floor can be cleaned easily sometimes accidents just happen but people don't always understand that's what happened in our story today he staggered down the road breathing in short gasps the stabbing pain in his side made him stumble he looked over his shoulder in terror there was no one behind him that he could see but he knew someone would be coming he faced forward again and tried to run faster it couldn't be very far away now the city of shukkam the city of refuge the road down which he ran was in good condition and all the crossroads had signposts that marked the way refuge they read refuge at least he wouldn't get lost the only question was would he make it to the city in time he hadn't meant to harm his neighbor he hadn't meant to hurt him but the axe head had flown off and struck his neighbor's face it was true he had accidentally killed a man yes he had done it however it had been an unfortunate unplanned accident even so his neighbor's family would come after him a life for a life that was the law but if he could get to the city of refuge he would be safe he would explain it all to the elders everything that happened and they would keep him safe until a trial could be held he looked back again someone was running along the road behind him far back in the distance he sobbed and turned and tried to run even faster he had to make it to shechem the city gates were just ahead elders were waiting there to see if he would be permitted in he ran faster he would make it he had made it god was good having cities of refuge was god's idea he knew that sometimes people get accused of something they did not do and sometimes bad things happened by accident so god told moses to set aside cities here and there throughout the nation of israel cities where people could run for safety and be given a fair trial but the cities of refuge could only keep people safe if they stayed inside the city if they went outside the city walls they could be caught and hurt sometimes the people seeking safety had to live there the rest of their lives unless the high priest died if that happened all was forgiven and they could go free we need a place of refuge today too and god has provided one for us church is a place of refuge where we worship together this podcast is read by frenita buddy for gracelink.net created and produced by valvo you lord for these days that have passed six days of toil and labor here we are today on this thy holy sabbath day of rest giving you thanks and praise mighty god for having been our protector for having been our protector god you have protected us you have shielded us you have been our defender we thank you lord that the righteous run to you and can be saved oh god this day when we look in our world filled with such turmoil because of pandemic our hearts many hearts are failing because of fear but you have not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind and even though lord there are many of our family members even at this hour this very minute who are grappling with the kobe 19 finding it so very difficult to breathe mighty god we pray that you will stretch forth your hand of healing upon your people and we pray o lord that you will help us not to give up not to give in because even though we walk to the valley of the shadow of death we shall fear no evil because thou art with us thy rod and thy staff you have prepared for us to draw us and to comfort our hearts today so lord wherever we are today whether we are here in the temple or we are home wherever we are god we thank you that you are a god who is here there and everywhere that nothing escapes your attention and as we come this morning we bring our burdens we bring our cares and we cast them at the feet of jesus you said cast your cares upon me because i care for you god help us today we remember those among us who are grieving so many are grieving and bereaved at this moment god we pray that you will be the comforter to all our hearts so many hearts are broken so many are searching god we pray that you will give them direction and that you will help them to find their way we thank you at this almighty god for our young people that are on display here today you have used them to do a mighty work and we continue to lift them up before you in praise and thanksgiving god when so many are going away from you these are here still holding up the portals of this church and we thank you for them we pray oh lord that you will be a hedge of protection about them that you will hedge their feet in that you will keep them from the the wiles of the enemy who tries to sniff them out to snuff them out we even thank you this day lord we rejoice with the parent family for litiga who has given her heart to jesus oh lord as she goes into the watery grave of baptism even almighty god may your holy spirit fall afresh upon this young one may our heart be knitted to jesus oh god may you hold our young people tightly may you never let them go we pray oh god that as we move into our service today that you would be with your man servant the one whom you have chosen today to break the bread of life oh god we thank you that you still choose even when we are wayward and disobedient like jonah you still choose to use us oh god may you use your man's servant today to deliver a message to our hungry hearts not so much because of him that you have given it to him god but because of us you see our need we need god we need to hear from you disappoint us not this day we pray disappoint us not this day we plead and may we leave here rejoicing knowing that our god our god whom we serve our god has heard us and answered our prayers oh god may you keep us faithful may you keep us trusting may you help us lord to hold on just a little longer because just over the mountain there is a promised land that holy city that is built by god's own heart god keep us keep us and may we leave when we leave from here may the holy spirit so ignite us that wherever we go people will see the living word of god made flesh in us and glorify our father in heaven thank you for hearing us this day not because we are worthy but because jesus is worthy we pray in jesus name amen and amen [Music] you jesus thank you jesus [Music] thank you jesus thank you jesus thank you jesus [Music] thank you jesus thank you [Music] just before we do the the introduction for the speaker i just want to acknowledge that we we do have some uh visiting friends here with us today we have uh sister ervilien soul mr okay good to have you good to have you with us and we have some other individuals that are here today as well we thank you for being here with us even in our limited capacity blessings on you keila has some supporters all right and we are we are glad we're glad that uh the family is out today um the message is not going to be delivered by myself today um it will be delivered by a good friend of ours you've heard him he spoke for our wednesday evening prayer and prayer meetings and for both churches of lighthouse and first ephesus pastor andrew thomas as i'm talking he's hearing me right now he is currently serving as the assistant pastor of the ruth seventh-day adventist church in brampton ontario canada and that's the church that's my mom and my aunt goes to so we have there are quite a few of them watching right now shout outs to all of them so pastor thomas will be delivering the message very good friend we we talk regularly on the phone and um you know i wanted him he his two daughters ke ila is very close with right so they are happy and excited um that uh she's doing this um thank you pastor thomas uh he is extremely busy where he as a matter of fact he's going to be delivering the message from his church but we're happy that he's able to do it and we're glad and we're looking forward to hearing share a word from the lord but before he speaks to us we will be blessed by a message in song [Music] if you could see [Music] start it from i know you will see a miracle [Music] of love that brought me gently to this place [Music] and make me what i am today just [Music] saved by grace [Music] [Music] now i live and breathing freedom with this breath of life i take i'm loved and pointless [Music] [Laughter] [Music] my grace [Music] how could i impose of anything i've ever seen or done how good i dare to claim as my those victories got as one where would i be had god not brought me to his sweet embrace and make me what i am today [Music] [Music] [Music] to my place [Music] foreign [Music] say bye [Music] is [Music] back with i'm just [Music] say [Laughter] [Applause] [Music] amen amen are you able to hear me i just want to make sure yes just want to confirm all right all right all right praise the lord listen brother latouche thank the lord for your voice what a powerful voice you have and i want i want to encourage you and and and just let you know that that voice was meant to be giving praise to god so please keep singing and praising god with that voice and what a reminder that we are simply sinners saved by grace amen amen i i i want to thank uh pastor perrin and the leaders there at lighthouse um for allowing me to um share a word with you today um as as a perrin had let me know that there's going to be a baptism today and it is a special baptism i'm going to assume and i'll even go out on a limb to say it is one of the most special baptisms that he will have in his lifetime no it is not jesus who is coming to him to be baptized that's been done already but he will be baptizing someone who is very close to his heart and to mine as well and to my my wife's and to my daughters um so we're looking forward to this this special day but i want you to know as pastor perrin did mention um i am the pastor at ruth sda church where his mother um attends so it was actually her who pressured pastor perrin to make sure that i preach at his church i'm just i'm just troubling you um but pastor perrin and and uh i and i have had a a great uh relationship he is a mentor to me and i thank god for his ministry um and for again just allowing me to to um to share a word with you today i'm gonna ask that you bow your heads and close your eyes with me as we pray pray just before we we dive into uh the word of god if you don't mind let's bow our heads heavenly father lord we ask that your name be praised we ask that whatever words are spoken are to your honor and to your glory and just as brother latouche sang may you humble me and remind me that i am simply a sinner saved by grace this is our prayer knowing full well that your word has gone forth before me in jesus name we pray amen and amen i pray that you have been enjoying yourself so far um in your in your church experience i want you to know that pastor parent has made it quite clear that he is in tropical weather don't know how many of you follow pastor perrin on social media but there are so many opportunities that he takes to show us the various tropical fruits that he is eating while i'm here eating apples basically apples but i i'm hoping that you're enjoying not just church service today but you're also enjoying the weather and that you're having a good time on this sabbath my sermon title today is entitled by love serve one another by love serve one another i remember when i was the high school principal i remember the chaplain was organizing opportunities for the kids to do small acts in the community these small acts um you know they were small acts of kindness just to demonstrate christ's love in the community it we found ourselves as a school and as young people realizing that we talked about christ but we were always within our four doors within our four walls rather and so the staff were excited and the students were excited to go out into the community and share christ this christ that we've been learning about in our in our classrooms to the community so the chaplain she phoned several neighborhood food and grocery establishments asking for permission to help serve their customers i want you to listen closely she called and asked these establishments if we could help to serve their customers and as she talked with a grocery store employee here she remembered she remembers one time she recalled and i was there in the office and the person hesitated and said um so you you want to come and help serve and she's like yes and she hesitated and the and she said okay i need to talk to my manager first but let me make i make sure i understand what you want to do you want to come and clean up the parking lot retrieve shopping carts hold umbrellas for customers and and you don't want anything in return the chaplain said yes that's right after a long wait on hold the employee returned to the phone and said i'm sorry we can't let you serve our customers because if we let you do it then we'd have to let everyone else do it can you imagine how the deceiver has made it difficult even to serve one another we're in a coveted season where it is it is almost considered an insult to pass somebody on the shoulder where it's con almost considered an insult where it's almost scary to help somebody who may be in need but i want you to turn your bibles with me to galatians chapter 5 and verse 3 we're going to read from verses 13 and 14. that's galatians chapter 5 verses 13 and 14 and i'm going to read um from i'm going to be reading a couple versions the first version i'm going to read from is the message bible the message bible and it says it is absolutely clear this is galatians chapter 5 verses 13 to 14 it says it is absolutely clear that god has called you to a free life just make sure that you don't use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom freedom rather use your freedom to serve one another in love that's how freedom grows for everything we know about god's word is summed up in a single sentence love others as you love yourself that's an act of true freedom that's from the message bible i'm going to read now also from the new international version and i want to i want to throw something out there just just in case some people believe that the king james version was written by god himself i don't know if that's the case here but [Music] there is nothing that says that we can't read different versions of the bible it is important to note because the bible was written um and and it's been written over many years in different versions so it's important to to examine other versions so you can understand the concept that they may be teaching differently we do not speak the the king james language in our regular everyday life so it will not be attractive or will not be easily understood by the average list but for the person who uh you know wants to be acquainted with the word um i encourage you please consider reading the uh various versions of the bible so reading um from the new international version it says you my brothers and sisters were called to be free but do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh rather serve one another humbly in love verse 14 for the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command love your neighbor as yourself last but not least i'm going to try uh the the king james version if you don't mind um just getting it here king james version and i believe it re sorry give me a second here technology perfect king james version verses 13 and 14. for brethren ye have been called unto liberty only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh but by love serve one another for all the law is fulfilled in one word even in this thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself see the passage we want to focus on today comes from paul's letter to the galatians and the topic of freedom emerges as a major theme in the letter to the galatians you see the law of god that had funded from from sinai did not set them free from sin rather it simply made them more aware of how captive they were to the flesh throughout the years that followed the law of moses became god's means of leading us to christ that we might be justified by faith you see with christ who lived it was christ who died and it was christ who was resurrected to fulfill the requirement of the law and therefore set us free therefore paul could declare it is for freedom that christ has set us free in galatians chapter 5 and verse 1. but what does paul really mean by freedom in what ways are we free let's look at what it does not mean in order to understand what it does mean first of all paul makes it clear that freedom in christ is not freedom to sin verse 13 it says you my brothers we're called to be free but don't use your freedom to indulge your sinful nature you see the galatians like so many christians unfortunately today had gone to two extremes yeah see on the one hand some had relapsed to to trying to become righteous by keeping the law and this only served to bring them back into bondage mercy does that sound like somebody you know today does that sound like yourself today you know anybody like that too strict too holy too heavenly for no earthly good that was one extreme but on the other hand you had some having heard paul's teaching about freedom who felt that they were now able to do anything that they wanted to do because they were free you know anybody like that as well two free too liberal too earthly for heavenly good so paul wrote do not use your freedom to indulge your sinful nature freedom in christ is not freedom to sin you see to have this attitude is to misuse and to abuse and to misunderstand the grace of god we are not free to use or abuse illegal or now legal drugs i don't know if it's legal in florida but i can tell you it's legal here in canada what so many men especially west indian or black men have gone to prison for is now a legal drug in fact i read an article about marijuana and since i believe it was july not july april since april there have been over a thousand cannabis stores that have opened up in canada it's the new starbucks someone said it's the new tim hortons you're not free to abuse illegal or now legal drugs to be free does not mean you're free to lose your temper and to hit or abuse your spouse or your children you're not free to yell at and disrespect your parents or your elders you're not free to cheat on your taxes but pastor the government takes too much of our money anyway it's still cheating if you cheat you're not free to call evil good or good evil just because freedom and you have freedom in christ it does not mean you have freedom to do shady things with immigration the freedom we have in christ is not freedom to do whatever we want second freedom in christ is not freedom from the flesh listen to that freedom in christ is not freedom from the flesh this of course is one of paul's primary points in this passage our freedom in christ is not freedom to indulge in the flesh but of freedom to serve one another in love okay pastor how can christians be free and yet be slaves at the same time you see this this is one of the beautiful mysteries of the christian faith jesus spoke about it when he said in matthew chapter 8 he says if anyone would come after me he must deny himself and take up his what his cross and follow me for whoever wants to save his life will lose it but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it you see the christian who wants to experience true freedom in christ must live in total surrender to christ the freedom we find in christ gives us the freedom to serve the bible is clear that we are not saved by service we are not saved by our good works rather we are saved for service god never see if if you sit down bench god saved you so that you can get up and serve him serve one another in love ephesians chapter 2 verses 8 to 10 says for it is by grace you have been saved through faith and this not from yourselves it is the gift of god not by works so that no one can boast for we are god's workmanship created in christ jesus to do good works which god prepared in advance for us to do so we are saved by grace and by grace alone we are set free in christ to serve salvation is not for self-indulgence but for service selfless service when we serve one another in a spirit of love we will fulfill the whole law as it applies to our relationship with others i want you to look again at at galatians chapter 5 and verse 14. it says the entire law is summed up in a single command love your neighbor as yourself i don't know about how it is in in florida but here we're finding that vaccination has become a divisive topic even amongst our church members divisive oh pastor i don't want to come and worship in the church without everyone who's vaccinated and we need proof that everyone is vaccinated to worship together one element as to whether we will show in how you treat others if you neglect yourself for others to see it will show in how you favor others for others to see if you neglect yourself just so that people can see it will show how you favor others just for others to see as well let me tell you something our love for ourselves is not to be selfish nor exclusive but to be healthy and appropriate pastor are we ought to love ourselves yes we're love your neighbor as yours you're supposed to love yourself remember the command to love your neighbor is the second part of the great command the first and primary command is to love god with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind and all your strength and the second command goes hand in hand with that one love your neighbor we love each other by honoring by submitting by accepting by admonishing by encouraging each other and there's no better way to love each other than by serving each other jesus is the greatest example we have of being a servant yet still he was a leader paul tells us philippians chapter 2 verses 5 to 8 he says your attitude should be the same as that of christ jesus who being in the very nature god did not consider equality with god something to be grasped but made himself nothing taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness and being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself and became obedient even to death even death on a cross you see when jesus needed to straighten out his disciples about service and and greatness he said in matthew 20 verses 25 to 26 you know that the rulers of the gentiles lorded over them and their high officials exercise authority over them not so with you instead whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be your slave just as the son of man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many you know politicians baffle me sometimes because the truth is politicians are put in place to serve us and they they they act like that's what they want to do during their campaign and then when they get into office you see how sometimes that quickly changes so that it's not about serving the people but it's about serving their own interests serving the interests of lobbyists that's not how government was supposed to be set up it's supposed to be set up so that when we put people in these positions they're there to serve the community we are called to serve each other brothers and sisters in love and we will be blessed if we do so one man discussed this whole truth uh with his minister and he said to his ministry he said he said preacher when you get right down to it he's talking about love and he's talking about service he says preacher when you get down to it it comes down to water theology the pastor said you mean watered down theology and the man said no no water theology the pastor asked like what's what's water theology and the man said do you remember when pilate went to wash what he did rather when he had the chance to to to to acquit jesus he called for a basin with what water and he washed his hands of the whole thing that was a symbol to the people but jesus when he saw john baptizing in the water was immersed fully into the water baptized in the water and in the spirit you see it all comes down the water theology pastor what will you do with your water lighthouse i'm asking you what will you do with your water what will you do will you use it to wash your hands of the needs of others will you say will we say someone else will have to do that it's someone else's job or will you be like jesus and take the plunge in total surrender to god and do what needs to be done for others may be your resolve and may it be mine whatever the need is we will serve in what kinds of ways can we serve pastor what ways can we serve others well the list of possibilities is endless people have physical needs serve emotional needs serve spiritual needs serve we can serve others by doing something for them that they cannot do for themselves like cook a meal when they're sick fix their car when it is broken we can serve by lending a listening ear when they need to talk we can serve people by giving them a ride to the doctor or to the store or to church we can serve people by praying with them and for them i know that there are some helping hands at lighthouse sda i know some are elders some are deacons some are teachers and some are some serve in other capacities i want to encourage those to serve without an without a title come on you don't have to have an official title to serve you see if you have to wait for a title to serve then you're like one of those who serve to be seen serve because god has called you to serve i encourage you to look around don't just look around your church but look around your own community look for a need and fill it you don't need permission to serve you just need a willingness to serve there is some way that god wants you to serve and there is someone who needs your service in love lighthouse it is my prayer that god will help us to learn to serve one another in love in jesus name we pray let's bow our heads and close our eyes lord thank you for choosing me as your vessel to serve thank you for choosing every member of lighthouse sda church to serve for there is no child no son nor daughter no no one who is young or too young or too old in order to serve may we lord recognize that you have not called us to dress up nice and to come and occupy a building one day of the week you have called us to take off our suit to put on the rugged clothes to put on our everyday clothes and to serve you may we serve you at work may we serve you at home lord may we serve you even at play give us the opportunity help our hearts to cry out for opportunities to share your name whether it be through a smile whether it be through a helping hand whether it be through a pat on the shoulder with a prayer whatever the case may be lord inspire us to serve you this is our prayer knowing that you've already gone ahead of us to answer in the name of jesus we pray let everybody say amen and amen [Music] okay thank you very much uh pastor thomas for that uh wonderful message thank you for making the time to be a part of this um wonderful and special experience here at lighthouse and keiila's baptism i'm just asking you all to bear with us a lot of folks keila are watching in terms of the family right grandma is on there and your aunt is on there in canada um your your mom and your dad they're watching too right so my wife's mom her dad her father's pastoring in texas and um they weren't able to be here with us um it's just one of those things that we are dealing with as we are going through the pandemic what we're going to do now is that uh we're going to have keila come up you can come up to come up to mommy she's a bit nervous right so bear with her be with us i'm going to do the main part we have the elders here the church will be hello michaela how are you you're good okay okay well welcome and includes the observance of the seventh day of the week as the sabbath day yes okay do you promise that you will help as many people as possible to be ready for jesus's soon coming do you believe that god gives special abilities to his people and that the holy spirit and that the spirit of prophecy is given to his chosen people do you want to help god's church with your influence effort and money do you want to take good care of your body by the help of the holy spirit that lives in you with god's power do you want to obey all the basic principles of the servant day adventist church yes okay do you want to be baptized as a show to people that you have decided to become a christian or that you are a christian yes yes okay and the last one do you want to be a member of the sympathy adventist church and do you believe that this church has a special message to give to the world yes okay members you have heard her answer in the affirmative do i have a motion that she be accepted into membership subjected to baptism do i have that motion okay all in favor say aye by raising your right hand okay so when you look around uh makayla you see all the members the family of god that are welcoming you officially into the body of god our god okay let us pray our god and our heavenly father we give you thanks and praise for today heaven is rejoicing that one member has decided one person has decided to surrender her life totally to you we ask that even as she goes down into the water grave of baptism that you would so give her a new heart even as she comes up and even as your blessed holy spirit descended upon your son jesus christ when he rose from the water graves of baptism we pray our heavenly father that today that you will also baptize her with the power of your holy spirit from above so that even as she lives that she will live a sinless life before you a life of total surrender total obedience that even as she walks even as she speaks that those looking on will realize that she is with you and that indeed your holy spirit resides in her we pray oh god that as a result that she will be even as magnet and she will draw men and women to you to come and follow you continue to be with her parents also in a very special way we ask that even as you led a mary of old and uh joseph as well that you will also continue to lead her appearance that they will continue also to point out the way of salvation to her that your blessed holy spirit will speak to her each and every morning each and every noon each and every night that she goes to bed and that you will impart the words of life to her and that you will open up the plan of salvation to her we ask that you will bless her entire life even as she trusts you by surrendering to you we thank you and we bless you and we praise your most high holy name in the wonderful name of jesus we do ask with thanksgiving amen amen amen thank you very much elder once again we just want to acknowledge all the
