what's going on everybody teddy baldusar here now so far in this series of looking at building the perfect watch collection for x amount of dollars we've looked at one thousand dollars as a budget two thousand dollars three thousand dollars and today we're going to look at four thousand dollars so if you are new here how this usually goes we look at different buying personas that really develop a type of philosophy for collecting and look at different pathways that you can go down with this allocated budget now before we jump into looking at these and it is important because we did add an additional and kind of swap something out for these personas awesome announcement just became an authorized dealer of rado watches so rado is an awesome swiss brand been in business over a hundred years first started under the brand schlep and co and then transitioned to the rado brand name in the 1960s they have some amazing watches that you might be familiar with something like the captain cook a fantastic diver under two thousand dollars clean looks ceramic bezel and a variety of sizes to choose from including a 37 millimeter you have a 42 millimeter option which i've covered here on this channel before in addition also their bronze cases and then also jumping into different models like their golden horse which is a great everyday wear 37 millimeters very classic style i have a full in-depth review in the description down below if you're interested and then also additional watches with more eclectic type of case materials and styles including their truline as well as looking at many of their watches utilizing ceramic which the brand has really become a master of very excited to be an authorized dealer of them full factory warranty of all their products definitely check it out in the description down below teddybaldestar.com but guys now let's take a closer look at these different personas so today we have eight different personas in the past we had seven so we have one addition here but let's go through them really quickly before we take a look at the different paths that you could take now for our first persona we have the check off the boxes persona so this type of individual needs to have a watch for every scenario even in those scenarios where it rarely happens persona 2 we have the one watch collection so this is the type of person that tries their best to find the one watch that can meet all their needs and finds joy in the simplicity of reaching for the same watch every day then for persona 3 we have the hipster so this is the type of collector that can't stand having anything mainstream so they spend the majority of their time picking out boutique watches micro brands and making sure you know how they were fans of radiohead before they obtain commercial success persona 4 we have the diver fanatic so this collector is fascinated with and only with the world of dive watches even if the most extreme level of contact with water on a day-to-day basis is washing their hands persona 5 is the perfect duo so this collector likes the simplicity of having a perfect dichotomy between a sports everyday piece and a dress watch persona 6 is the formal collector this is the type of individual that needs to dress up for their occupation or just likes to dress up all the time and they're typically are going to need at least two dress watches to match their many outfits now persona 7 is the conversation starter so this is the new addition here this is the type of person that really wants to have watches that stimulate interest attention or questions when they wear their time pieces and then persona 8 is the three watch collection the perfect balance here of a dress every day and then a sports watch now for our first persona here we have the check off the boxes individual so now for this type of person i had basically five different types of watches or categories that need to be covered first is a type of complication in general then you would need a diver a dress watch a casual everyday watch as well as a beater of some sort that you can kind of beat around a bit now when looking at these five categories i have a couple that are going to overlap and actually we're looking at four watches in total that i think really still hit all those requirements the first one is the zodiac super sea wolf gmt so this is the sherbet bezel so that silver white in orange bezel which really is attractive immediately when i saw this watch released this year i thought this was a big hit aerospace gmts vintage aerospace gmts from zodiac and their sea wolves are fantastic they're some of the best vintage looking dive watches in my opinion and sports watches in my opinion and i think this is a really great rendition of paying honor and tribute back to those watches they were commonly found at different px's and during the vietnam war is a great example of when they were really in their heyday and when looking at the zodiac sea wolf one of the first commercially available dive watches ever created and now zodiac underneath the fossil group's direction has done a very good job in creating new interests in the brand so this watch here comes with a price right under 1700 you're getting a very wearable case at 40 millimeters reasonable thickness you're getting a nice at a base caliber here they're 28 93 2 and you're getting a gmt here and the reason why i think this is a very intriguing watch is because it kind of slashes off two things that we were looking at you got your complication with the gmt but you're also getting an amazing dive watch in the process with that nice reliable at a caliber within sapphire crystal and a solid price with fantastic looks now going from that watch and transitioning to more of a casual everyday watch but also i think really matching what might be necessary for somebody that just wants another watch that can kind of take a beating and also have great spec that's looking at the long jean conquest so the longing conquest i think is a victim it's of its own just vastness in terms of what is available a lot of people i don't know actually realize that there's a 39 millimeter option available for the conquest because there's also just different sizes throughout but this is from a mass market perspective a great size to key in on and i think a lot of people will like it in terms of the looks and what it's providing from the spec department you're of course getting a very wearable casing for twelve hundred dollars there's a lot of punch being packed here 47 millimeter lug to lug making this very wearable in all aspects nice thickness as well you're getting an at a caliber 2892 a2 300 meters of water resistance when you factor in that thickness as well as that case and just the overall looks you're getting diver watch specs without the actual looks that typically come with it and you're also getting a sapphire crystal long jean i think does a fantastic job with their heritage collection but i think sometimes people forget about the more modern type of approaches in terms of their design formula that sometimes get overlooked as a byproduct of that now next up for our dress watch i think a great place to look if we're trying to get our budget down a bit and i do want to probably save a little bit of money because we spent quite a bit there a good portion of our budget with those first two looking at tiso and tiso has a plethora of watches available in this range that we could personally offer up we could look at the visit date i think that is the safe choice and i think a great choice to go with but i want to look at the lock instead i think it's a great option in terms of everyday wear but also having the ability to be dressed up to a nice degree the great thing about the conquest is i think that can double in with a more casual look this one is going to be a more dressed up wearer that you can kind of lean on in terms of the spec here with the movement you're not going to get the say blade quality with the higher grade as well as a cost certified movement that you can get for around a thousand but we need to keep our budget down here so 575 dollars 39 39.3 millimeter case nice thickness good luck to lug and you're also getting a sapphire crystal pretty straight forward when it comes to tiso i think this is just a solid everyday swiss dress style watch that could really be either dressed up and then as well dressed down and now to round ourselves out here i wanted to look at a beater i think you could always look at the g-shock but i've kind of mentioned a more digital watch approach in the last couple videos so instead i wanted to look at a mechanical watch again with a really awesome option from orient we went swiss for all the other watches let's look at orienteer with their orient defender 2. now this orient defender 2 is it has some really nice upgrades you're getting an upgraded movement 100 meters of water resistance you're getting a screw down crown as well and a pretty wearable case that 42 millimeters here i will speak to it personally this is not going to wear really true to that this is going to wear closer to a 40 to 41 millimeters and with it being more of a tactical or i would say more field-oriented watch that maybe a little bit more sporty as well you don't have to worry about this thing wearing that large it's going to wear a little bit closer that 40 to 41 millimeter case and even people with my wrist size of six and a quarter inches really being able to pull this one off you have a few different case styles that you can choose from you have one that has more of an ip coated case you could also go for this traditional the stainless steel options really sharp movement nice specs in-house caliber wearable with that lug to lug and for just north of 200 or so this is a great watch to take a look at and i do have a full in-depth review of this piece you're also getting a day of the week and then a 24 hour scale on this piece as well but a great watch to take a look at and just really quickly just to throw all these back on really quick before we move to the next one you have your super sea wolf gmt it's going to be that complication as well as that diver hybrid you have the long jean conquest 39 millimeter which is also going to have a bit of some diver specs while also being a great everyday casual piece you have your tiso which is going to be a fantastic choice for a dress watch while not being too dressy can be dressed down casually then finally your orient defender which could take a little bit of a beating that you don't have to worry as much about but also is a great watch for the money on top of that all right so now we have our one watch collection and when thinking of one watch around four thousand dollars the first one that obviously comes to mind for me is the tudor black bay 58. it does so many things right you recently saw the release of the new blue dial variant which i have done a full in-depth review of on the channel but the 58 just knocks out of the park in a lot of ways there's a reason why this watch has become so popular it's because of the case size being very wearable being under 40 millimeters the thickness of the case has also been slimmed down significantly and that lug to lug distance and overall wear has been fantastic i think for a lot of people out there that were a little bit afraid of the clunkiness that can come with some of the larger tudor black bays in addition you're also getting an in-house caliber it could be worn in a variety of different situations i think the black might be a little bit safer in terms of being able to be dressed up rather than the blue the blue is a bit more sporty but in terms of getting the best watch that you could probably have work in every scenario the tudor black bay 58 is a fantastic choice just to throw another option in there when looking into this range you actually can start getting into grand seiko territory you're not gonna get the remarkable dial finishing that comes with say the snowflake or the four seasons collections for example but you still can't get into the world of the spring drive under four thousand dollars and with that you have the sbga 285 so at 3800 retail 39 millimeter case 12.3 millimeters in thickness and a 47 millimeter lug to lug pretty wearable spring drive as well which is going in its favor 100 meters of water resistance and you're getting the spring drive 9r65 caliber within plus or minus one second per day and that is really speaking to it conservatively these things run incredibly accurate and if you're not familiar with the spring drive i've done a very thorough and in-depth analysis of it so i'll link to it down below those are two options you can go for you can also look at iwc with their pilot series you could also just for a little bit more get into the world of omega with say their seamaster professional 300 diver a lot to choose from i just wanted to kind of look at those two but one of course give honorable mentions for watches that retail slightly above the 4 000 price range but you're still getting some great watches if you're gonna try to put all your money into one watch in this range great choices here all right so now for persona 3 we have the hipster now i have done a whole series about micro brands i have a video on it i have a great vlog on it which i can link to down below but just to go through a few of these so first for the hipster collection i want to look at fairer fairer to me is very much the i would say kind of the manta or the formax of the uk really solid watches for the money in that 1 000 to 2000 range they're definitely on the higher end of micro brands out there this oxy silver gmt is a really clean looking watch very wearable you're getting a top grade sw 330 inside here 100 meters of water resistance and a sapphire crystal it's a great choice to go for then moving into astr banks so for astro banks i looked at their c ranger i mentioned them as one of the first micro brands in that micro brand blog and i was just really impressed with my time with one of their pieces very cleanly designed this new fortitude this one i think is on pre-order right now basically takes the design of their c ranger and kind of minimizes it in a way there's a lot of the same type of design formula here 525 dollars to 550 i think there's a mother of pearl dial variant it's gonna be a little bit more on the higher end there in terms of that price range and then the case size 38.5 millimeters 46 millimeters in terms of that lug to lug and then 200 meters of water resistance with a 9000 series miota caliber so a nice step up from the 8215 or the 821a for example and then of course the sapphire crystal great brand based out of illinois and i think cool one to look at in addition another speaking of another awesome microbrand base in the united states you have brew with the retromatic this one with the burgundy so this is a new release from brew i've constantly talked about brew i think from a design approach brew has some of the more unique designs and also tasteful there's i think uniqueness but it's also doing it tastefully i think brew does this perhaps better than anybody else while pricing their watches in a more appropriate range 425 dollars here 36 millimeters by 39.5 millimeters with the dimensions and a thickness of 10.5 millimeters and then an automatic seiko nh35 within really clean looking watch cool bracelet and some different dial variants to choose from and then round it out to kind of just get that dive watch to kind of round us out here you have your more different style approach with the brew then you have your gmt i think the norcan adventure is a great option at the end here eighteen hundred dollars you have that cool kind of checkered board or tuxedo style dial 42 millimeter case 50 millimeters the lug to lug you're getting automatic at a 2824 water resistance of 100 meters and a sapphire crystal north kane recently came out made a big announcement with actually producing movements with canisi so they're the movement provider and manufacturing hub for partial ownership for tudor as well as chanel a pretty interesting story and they've made a lot of traction as of late so you almost could argue that they're starting to get an independent territory they haven't been on the market that long but definitely brand to check out for and that's our hipster category next up we have our diver fanatic these are the type of people whenever i talk about dress watches they always tell me no all you need is an skx so if you're that type of person leaving those type of comments get ready they're going through this all right so first up we have the seiko spb 143. this is one of the cooler dive releases of the year one of the problems when it comes to seiko overall is a lot of their sizes i think in terms of their turtles they have they have their market really narrowed in but to totally neglect the smaller case sizes there's a reason why the skx013 now is trading at ridiculous prices people are looking for dive watches from seiko people love dive watches from seiko and want different case sizes that are available this one did it did it in a fantastic way twelve hundred dollars for the price here case size we're looking at 40 millimeters nice thickness lug to lug as well i was just really impressed with this one on the wrist it wore better than almost any other seiko diver watch i've ever worn in my life and then also you're getting an elevated 6r35 movement rather than their 6r15 so a lot to like here higher price tag for a seiko diver i know some people have some resistance there but no question a very cool piece that you can look at there next up you have the zin u50 another amazing release when we're looking at watches released this year now xin overall has been raising their prices which i think has been a bit of a bummer just because i think zen for so much time have been the brand that many people just look at for some of the best value in watchmaking this watch i think is still in the range it's starting to get up there in terms of tudor black bay territory which is a little bit dangerous but this is a very cool watch 41 millimeters in terms of the case size here nice thickness as well if anybody was familiar with the u1 knew how big of that watch really fit on the wrist this is going to be much thinner wearable lug to lug at 47 millimeters healthy water resistance here top grade solida movement inside sapphire crystal these watches have not really been delivered yet i'm hoping to actually review one very soon when they do become available but a fantastic watch to take a look at for release this year and being a great dive watch for say a diver fanatic type of individual i can see this being right up that alley and then finally for our third watch here from this diver fanatic we have the bulova devil diver now this isn't a watch that in terms of the best value for money there's a lot of stiff competition in this price range around 600 dollars for this watch but in terms of looks this is a unique one it's cool it's retro it's interesting and i think when you put it all together from a brand like bulova a lot to like here automatic miota 821d so i think that's the probably where people can have the most resistance here if you're getting sapphire crystal 200 meters of water resistance very similar in terms of its case size and where to say some of those larger turtle or samurai cases wearing kind of in that regard in terms of that lug to lug and contrasting it with that case size but overall when thinking of this persona watches that this person would go after this is certainly right there now for persona 5 we have the perfect duo when considering say the best dive watches and around 2 000 i think there's a lot to consider there's the rado which i just mentioned the captain cook which is certainly in the range long jean does some fantastic heritage models their skin diver as well as their heritage divers are very clean great looking pieces and then you also have say a lot of micro brands out there that are doing some interesting things as well you have manta you have formax with their new reef which is very cool and then i think another one you always have to look at probably one of the best offerings still is the aorus aquas looking at the 39 millimeter variant aorus for me is just one of the more endearing brands out there independently operated one of the only ones out there especially of this size that are still in that type of operation and then you're now seeing them jump into the world of in-house movements as of late we're not going to be looking at those we're going to be looking at the selita option here just for the sake of price you certainly could probably throw the aquas in as a one-wash collection type of watch but aquas from a finishing standpoint really solid getting a very reliable serviceable movement within a bunch of different dial options to choose from you do get an integrated style bracelet which is going to limit the possibility of different straps but the bracelet on this piece is quite fantastic and definitely a great consideration when looking at a dive watch for around two thousand dollars with the remainder of our budget here when we're looking at a dress watch in this range or watch that could really split the difference in terms of what the aqueous was providing i think a good place to look at is long gene longine their heritage collection there's really not anything more that i can say that i have not said in the past awesome stuff here long jean has one of the most expansive catalogs out there on the entire market and they're one of those brands that does the reissues a lot but i don't get tired of seeing them they always knock them out of the park and this is another example of that around sixteen hundred dollars for the price wearable case solid movement and really attractive looks on the front of the dial nothing really needs to be more said and i think a perfect split with that aqueous and being a two watch roundup to really cover you in pretty much every scenario okay so now for persona 6 we have the formal collector so this is going to be an individual that is going to be looking at dress watches and this is kind of a dying breed in a lot of ways people are not looking in the direction of dress watches very often but i think dress watches are awesome i still wear them all the time and i enjoy doing so now to begin i think when looking at two thousand dollars the best probably dress watch that you can go for if you do like the style is nomos in a lot of ways if you're packing the most value and what they're doing they're doing a lot of interesting things german manufacturers started in 1990 but really made waves now the leading manufacturer in terms of germany in terms of total output and looking at their dress watch lineup the ludwig the orion as well as the tangente fantastic pieces for the money for the sake of being a little bit different than the rest of the options here i'm going to go with the tangente right around 1900 this midnight blue version i did a review looking at this one as well as two other dress watches from nomos earlier this year case size 35 millimeters know that they are going to wear a little bit larger than that when you go in their direction because of those longer lugs so try to probably add maybe a millimeter or two on top of that and as it continues to scale out it's going to be even larger so 38 millimeter option it's going to wear like a 40 to 41 millimeter so just keep that in mind when you're looking at that direction typically we recommend the 35 millimeter and then these watches are going to be very thin as a result of that alpha manual movement within here and these movements are actually inspired by the pizzoo 7001 however they're actually created using nomos's in-house components this was really just creating a more vertical structure for their actual manufacturing process and why they went this route and you're paying for it a bit but you're not paying for it a lot i think in terms of value what you're seeing here from the looks department some people it's not going to be for them but i love nomos i think what they do from this price range from a dress watch perspective really can't be beat then moving into the next watch we have the hamilton intramatic 38 millimeter you always hear about the khakis i think the intramatic is one of the more appealing offerings from hamilton and a line of watches that they have that i think is just overall maybe not seen or given the amount of appreciation that they probably deserve this one coming at 38 millimeters there's also a 42 millimeter option but i think the 38 is much more wearable when you factor in that lug to lug also the thickness and you're getting a nice at a 28 92 within sapphire no running seconds hand here so that could be something that maybe you don't like maybe you do like i think is a nice addition to this lineup of dress watches and complimenting that nomus from earlier and then to round it out just to be a little bit different here a watch from seiko with their spb zero four seven this watch comes in at a price of a thousand dollars forty point five millimeter case forty seven point eight millimeter lug to lug so substantially the largest watch of this group but still i think could be wearable for a lot of risks out there but the good thing here is 100 meters of water resistance you're getting a lot more wearability in different situations so that's going to help but you're also getting ar coating double curved sapphire and then also an enamel dial which will really make this thing pop when combined with that curved sapphire and that ar coating so nice way to round out this overall trio now persona number seven here we have the conversation starter now the first watch is i think one of the best conversation starters in an affordable range and it's from a quartz watch which i typically don't talk about as much as mechanical no quartz snobbery here i think quartz watches are great for the right person i'm just a mechanical watch guy at the end of the day but when looking at this piece some of the more compelling features that you will see in a watch of this price range for around 600 one is the movement of the second hand you're kind of getting more of a sweep but the interesting thing happens once it arrives at the 12 o'clock so it's going to tick around for 58 seconds stop at the 12 o'clock that second hand that red tip second hand and then the minute hand is going to proceed forward what this is resembling is how swiss railway clocks are actually projecting this is done with more intention and if you are interested in learning a bit more about this piece i'll link to a video down below where i actually have a full in-depth review you're also getting backlit hands with super luminova known as their backlight and then finally also the time setting or the hand setting on this piece is very different and unlike anything you'll actually see it's more of a push and kind of drag type of format where it's going to gradually sweep around to set the time rather than pull out and then twist in a more traditional format intriguing piece in terms of value for money you can argue there's a ton of other places you could look it is a quartz watch after all but in terms of what it's providing from a fun conversation standpoint probably one of the best out there that you can find next we have the seiko srpc44 now i'm going to be honest the only reason why i included this piece was i recently saw somebody wearing this on a gold bracelet gold case uh the actual bracelet was from strap code i will give a little shout out to them they do really good aftermarket seiko bracelets because we all know seiko bracelets are not always the best that would be saying the least but seeing that combo and i know gold in general it's not always somebody's cup of tea but in terms of getting attention starting a conversation but i think this one is done pretty well when you combine it with that bracelet simple as that it gets people attention i don't think it is over the top gaudy and actually is pretty eye-catching in the right way and next up we have the doxa sub 200 i think i've mentioned this before in a previous collection video but i think it's for good reason it's a very good watch for the money when looking at a thousand dollars for a dive watch different dial colors to choose from i think the professional orange dial variant is classic in terms of thinking of the history of doxa and docs's history in terms of professional diving is very rich this one is a little bit more of an affordable watch to go for in terms of doxa's lineup of divers and also very wearable experience as well and when looking at the price of around 950 if you go for it on the strap simple wearable case solid reliable movement within clean looks gonna grab some attention perfect formula for this type of consumer now next up is a brand that i think is one of the best when it comes to getting people to ask questions about what am i looking at there it looks like a bathroom scale but it's not it's a meister singer watch and why people say that is because it has only one hand all their watches have one hand it's pretty unique way of telling the time but also once you get the hang of it is actually a pretty awesome way to tell the time and very useful because there's no meetings at 3 37 it's all how this works is measuring things out every 5 minutes so every single little hash mark that you see on the outside is all gonna be indicating five minutes with the 15 minute markers being a little bit larger then you have the 30 minute markers are going to be larger then you have the corresponding numeral next to each of the hours basically just showing you a 12 hour scale of the time now the watch i decided to choose from meistersinger is their mattress and the reason why i did so is because it offers on top of the uniqueness i think some really solid wearable just case specs as well as case size 38 millimeters in terms of the overall case size but you're also getting nice water resistance on this piece where it can really double as a sports watch so say you want to be a little bit different from that dock so that you have then you can flip to this watch as kind of being a casual everyday wear that you can also pretty much take on with with any different water activity with its screw-down crown you also get that peculiar date window that again kind of looks like a bathroom scale and then that single hand at the center but meister singer no question going to get some conversations stirring up from that one which in reality if you've worn watches long enough you don't usually get actually conversation from your watches so that's certainly saying something now we finally made it to persona 8 with the three watch collection now for a watch to consider here in terms of maybe where to start out from more casual but also could be dressed up as a watch from tutor that i think is not considered very much i want to be reviewing one of these very soon the tutor 1926. i think a lot of people don't actually consider this because they might see the ones with the diamonds on them and maybe don't actually see what's really beneath the surface for some of the other watches that actually have available there's a 36 millimeter option there's a 39 millimeter option there's different dial or just different dial options to choose from my favorite is either the 36 or the 39 millimeter in terms of the overall case size but then also looking at the opalin dial with the blue markers really attractive piece wearable case you're getting also a nice serviceable at a caliber within which tutor's always doing a nice job with fine tuning and then you're also getting a really attractive price tag for a tutor probably one of the more attractive entry doors in getting into twitter watches with some great looks from an everyday point of view and this is definitely one that i think is again one of the more underappreciated tutor watches that they have in their lineup and definitely isn't a bestseller for the brand but certainly is one to consider when looking at this trio next when looking at the diver of this trio i think a great place to look is mido in mido i did a review of the mido ocean star tribute and that's going to be the watch that i'm going to recommend here for this trio just north of a thousand dollars in terms of the price 80 hour power reserve very nice bracelet for the money here really good on the fly adjustment as well and you're also getting a nice wearable case overall with that 40 millimeter case size 47 millimeter lug to lug and medo in the us market perhaps again if we're getting on the subject of being overlooked definitely is worthy of that classification and i've actually done a full in-depth review last year actually i went to bilbao spain reviewing the mino ocean star tribute the watch they're featuring here definitely check that one out it's good to look back to on the crazy year that has been 2020 in terms of not traveling and seeing a video where i actually did travel because 2019 was full of it this year basically none at all so definitely check that out awesome watch though to consider here in terms of this trio type of persona and then finally to round us out and looking at the dress watch i wanted to look at jung hans but not the maybe the traditional watch that is always considered which is the max build i think maybe is the best option to go through when getting into this brand but i i wanted to kind of look at the form a just to be a bit different but also because it comes with the sapphire crystal there are max bows with sapphire crystals i actually have some on my website but not to get off subject here the form a is a fantastic watch it's a bit more contemporary how i usually describe the form a is it starts getting into the world of i would say more of a nomos rather than a young hans i think young hans is very mid-20th century in terms of many of their designs getting into this watch is a bit i would say more modern contemporary types of look it doesn't have that same dome effect that i think a lot of people like but it's still a fantastic watch for the money just south of a thousand dollars sapphire crystal very serviceable at a caliber within in a variety of different dial colors to choose from i think the white might be my favorite but there's some cool like a taupe there's a gray a lot to choose from definitely great one to consider and i think a great way to round out this trio here all right guys now this was a long one i apologize but i hope this is helpful it seems like these have been very enjoyable videos for those that have watched if you did enjoy it these take a lot of time to put together so thumbs up subscribe hit the bell icon really would appreciate it what persona are you leave
