We're going to build a Sims house today, but  instead of being able to actually decorate the   house, we are only allowed to use the first  swatch of any item that we try to place. So what I mean by that is like, say I wanted  to place a bed, I'm not allowed to pick a bed   and then change the color, instead I have to only  use whatever the preview color is from this menu. I've seen quite a few people try this  challenge on YouTube, but to be honest,   I've been a little bit scared to try  it myself because the swatches are   either really bold or really bland and  there's not really a lot of in between,   so I'm kind of nervous about trying to build a  whole house and then making it match like this. Annoyingly for us, that means we're also  stuck to the default swatch of like,   doors and windows and exterior wallpapers too,   so we don't have very many options here  for what the exterior can even look like. At least a lot of the base game windows  are white by default because like,   these Seasons ones are a horrible ugly  brown and I don't really want to use them. I'm kind of thinking I want the  house to be mostly made out of brick,   at least that's kind of what I'm leaning towards. And I realize that right now this  is looking a little bit strange,   but I swear it's going to make sense  eventually, I'm just not there yet. For everybody's sake, I don't think it should  be too many stories tall either because the   bigger it is, the more room for pain and I  don't know if I'm cut out for that today. It always hurts so bad when I do one  of these build challenges and I start   to really like how it's looking because  right now I'm really into this exterior,   I think it's looking kind of cool, but  then I'm going to start furnishing it   and it's going to be so ugly inside because  it's not going to have anything matching. Okay, well here's kind of  -- oh, that doesn't work. I can't make it wider because I'm out of  space on the lot, let's try this again. If I put it on a slightly wider lot then I can  extend this and it's not quite as bad, okay,   this is what I'm thinking so far for the exterior. I'm not really sure how the interior is going  to work out so I guess we will see about that,   but this is kind of what I was  picturing for the floor plan. I thought this would be a bathroom and then we   could have maybe two bedrooms and a  small en suite bathroom right here. This makes for a very long hallway which might not  be a good thing, but we'll see, it might be okay. Maybe we can try and close  off a little bit of this too   because this part back here could be the kitchen. Ugh, we have to use the default kitchen  counters too! This is the problem, it's   not going to be very interesting looking because  a lot of the kitchen counters are quite bland. I might use these because I feel like  the plain black and white is easy. Anyway, I'm picturing the kitchen will go  there. Oh, we have to use default rugs. The more I start this, the worse it gets.  Okay, well we can have maybe like a dining   room kind of in this area, and then I was  picturing that there might be some sort of   living room, I don't know, kind of like  that with a fireplace here or something. That's honestly a really nice layout of a house,   I feel like this kind of just came  together really easily. Almost too easily. Why does the roof look like that? Is that  new? Is it because it's small? What the heck. I thought it was going to go away and it was  just a lighting glitch, but it's still there. Okay, I don't really know what to do about that  so I'm just going to pretend it's not happening. All right, so as far as the fence situation  goes, we have to use a default swatch. And the one I usually use comes in  brown and I don't really want that,   so I think I might use this white picket fence. This house is going to end up having a lot of   packs just because we don't have  a lot of options in the base game. Ugh, even my favorite columns don't  come with white as the default swatch. I don't even know what to do about that,  okay, we can at least use these columns,   my favorite Get Together ones on the corners. I'm definitely going to use those because I think  it makes a big difference especially if we have   to only use like, default swatch wallpapers, it's  going to be nice to have some sort of cute trim. I don't think the fences will be too  bad. Oh no, why does it look like that? Okay, wait wait wait, hold on. Oh, the stairs, I just tried to change  the color without even thinking about it. That is no good, okay, we'll use  the cheapest stairs from the base   game and we can't use this fence  because this looks kind of ugly. Unless... okay, never mind, that's fine, it's  fine. Okay, well this base game column is white. Oh, this -- no, I don't like that color. It's like   the default has such an ugly brick,  this one's white, that might be okay. I don't really like this trim. I don't  -- this this is not my favorite spandrel,   but I guess we don't have many other options  at the moment so I suppose I will use this one. Does that look bad? No, that's okay. Roof  trim comes in white by default so that's easy. The half wall trim cannot be made white,  there's only brown as the default. Why? Why is that the case? Foundation's easy,  it comes in brick so we can do that. So I've been picturing using some sort of brick. I want it to be red brick. Ugh, why -- do you  see this? The ones with the trim, they come in   red by default, but this is the same brick and  it comes in black by default without the trim. Why? Why is that the case? Same thing with  this. I don't really want to use that one. I guess I could maybe use the City Living  brick. That doesn't look very good. What is that? Do you see that? Why is  it doing that? It's like stretching the   roof texture or something, I've never  seen that before, that is new to me. All right, well I'll have to pick  something else then to try and put there. And maybe I'll pick a different foundation, okay,   so maybe we could have like the  plain white foundation instead? Of course these things don't come in plain white  because that would just make things too easy. I guess we can put white on the top half  of these little guys, and maybe I can try   and put a piece of trim there or something,  I don't know, I'm just trying to cover up   the glitch a little bit because we could do  something like that and it might look okay. We do thankfully have a chimney that I can put  up here and the default swatch is all right. As far as roofs go, I like a  lot of the default swatches,   thankfully, but I kind of -- oh, this  one's fine, that's just black, okay. Okay, the exterior is not  so bad with this actually,   it's more the interior that I'm worried about. Speaking of which, I'm going to put  some wood floors everywhere and now   we can start looking at the door and  windows situation so thankfully again,   the base game is very simple and  has a lot of nice plain white stuff. We can even get some kind of big windows  if we want to which will be pretty cute. I wish that I could change that so it  has like the black shutters because   I think it looks better that way, but whatever. I am the one who decided to  do this silly challenge and   so it is my fault that we cannot make cute things. I apologize. I think I'll put a sink right here in the center  of that kitchen so I'll put Windows above it. Oh, that's too big, no no no no no no no, maybe  smaller? Like, a little circle window up there. Okay, small window on this side in the  bathroom, we can do windows on this side. This is cute, somehow that  came together really well. I don't want to speak too soon though  because things can change fast. Let's start thinking about the inside  for a second, so as far as the rest of   the interior goes, we're going to need to  have doors into all of these little rooms,   and maybe I'll start with the  bathroom because that's easy. The bathrooms are quite low stakes. I really like the combination  of this tile with this like,   beige linoleum and it matches really  easily and they're both default swatches,   in fact this linoleum only has  one swatch so it's easy to use. I'll get a nice shower/tub combo. I'm tempted to try and put  some sort of cabinet in here,   but that's a little bit tight  so maybe don't do that Kayla. You know what, I will say this, at least  being only able to use the default swatch   does make furnishing a lot quicker  because it takes a lot less scrolling. You have a lot less options to pick  from so it's a little bit easier to do. Oh, I like that sink because it  almost looks like it's a cabinet. Well it is a cabinet, but it looks more like  if there was an actual vanity in this bathroom. And then we can get a nice big mirror on top. Aw, the options are all so bland, this is so sad. Like, look at this, it's  just so plain in here. Okay,   maybe for the last thing I might  get one of these little cabinets. Perhaps a cabinet and then  a small plant or something? Ugh, I don't want to use the  black robe, see, this is so hard! I want to put a robe on the back  of the door, but the black is bad. I can put this so we have some more  clutter and we can get, I don't know,   like some soap on both sides of this? I can't change the color, but that's  fine. That's something, it's not too bad. I'm going to make things a little  bit tighter here in this bathroom. I'm kind of interested in giving these Sims a  cat so I might put like a litter box in here. I should make it a different color  scheme just to branch out a little bit,   maybe I could use this instead. Question is do we have any white tile? Oh,  I have this, that matches the wallpaper. Okay, and I could get a little white, I  don't know, window shade or something? This litter box is quite  plain and it matches nicely,   and this rug kind of matches, but also  adds some extra color which is good. I'm very tempted to put a couple  of these cabinets in here. I don't know if that's a bad idea or not, but  I think it's kind of interesting to have like,   a linen cabinet or something in the bathroom. I guess it's also quite realistic to have that  too. Not really obsessed with any of the tile   options because none of them match, but this  might be -- no, I don't like the gold. Ugh. How do people do this? How do you play this  challenge? It's like, breaking my heart every time   I try and place something, I might just leave the  bathroom because it's stressing me out too much. At least the kitchen shouldn't be too bad, I'm  not really expecting any problems arising in here. I am using some relatively simple  stuff so it should be okay. I might use that same tile again as the  kitchen backsplash, unless... I don't know,   I don't really like this one, but maybe  it's it's fun to try and switch it up. I just don't like it with that cabinet that much,   but we can probably make it  work if we try hard enough. In the kitchen I'm picturing like maybe  some sort of little breakfast nook setup. I'm really sad about all the swatch options  for these chairs because I don't like,   any of them, so we have to be kind of  careful because I'm going to want to   pick the one that I like best for the living room. I think I'm sort of attached to this  rug, so I wonder if we can try and find   something that matches that rug or at least  matches it well enough because that's okay. A lot of the rugs that I normally use like  this one, I'm not -- I can't have it be red. Well maybe, wait. Maybe I could have it be red, that -- it's  kind of bringing in the -- it's ugly though. Just because you could  doesn't mean you should Kayla. Okay, actually that chair might be the move,  that's probably the best that we're going to get. Maybe I use that chair and then like, I guess  these tables just come in white, I don't really   want it to be white, but that's easier than  trying to match wood tones or something. Aw, that's cute, right? I think I like that. This is what I mean by matching wood tones because  the default swatch of everything is so random. This might be good, this one is plain. I'm okay with using wood stuff it's just  like, look at all these different wood tones. So how are you supposed to pick when  you have to use only the first swatch? I think I want to try and make  myself a little built-in situation. Oh no, oh no, okay, I want  a fireplace and I want a TV. I am not sure where that's going to line up. Maybe this one could be good? I used  to do this all the time where I would   put this the TV and then like, raise  it up so the TV covers the mirror. I might do that here to be honest. We have got a lot of beige when it  comes to the curtains in this game. I don't know, there's a lot of beige  in the tile so it might be okay. Maybe I can try and build a  proper entryway like this,   I could potentially do that and then put like, I  don't know, maybe a brick or something under it? I don't really love how that looks,   but I also think that it's nice to have  some more color and some more separation. Oh, art is going to be a major problem in this  too, I didn't really even think about that. Can I use the same chairs twice? Maybe I could  use these because they're similar, but different. Similar vibes, but different chair technically. Okay, well kind of coming back  to the kitchen for a second,   I want to start getting some more clutter in here. I'm also wondering if I can put a  tile, I'm not sure if it's a good idea,   but I'm just trying to think of ways that  we can get some more variation going. Okay, hate the swatch of that  so that's not going to work. The swatches of all these appliances  are orange, I don't want to use that. Even this I don't want to use. You would  think that like basic appliances would be   easier for this, like you'd think  that it would be fine if we tried   to use some basic simple appliances, but  even those default swatches are so bad. All right, well I think I'll just put  some tea or something right there,   I've got the fruit bowl, I put  this little dish drying rack   and then I'll leave that counter  open so your Sims can cook there. The other thing that I have failed to include   in here that I probably should  have added is um, a trash can. I don't have a trash can  or a food bowl for the cat,   but I don't put trash cans in my kitchens a  lot in The Sims, they can just go outside. This wallpaper is interesting because  it has like a little bluish hint to it,   but it's also quite plain so it  might be nice to put everywhere. Or it's also potentially bad because it's quite  cool toned, but who knows? We'll see how it goes. I want to get some sort of cabinet,  I just don't really like this one,   but maybe that cabinet with some  art on top won't be too bad,   and that also brings in some more of the  wood tones that I've been trying to get. Oh, thankfully this plant is plain white,  okay. Here's an interesting kind of beige   looking lamp, maybe I could use that  to bring in some more of the beige. I kind of want to use that reddish color  from the rug, but nothing comes in that   swatch by default so I guess I'm going  to put some little chairs over here. I am open to having a small table, the  problem is a lot of the tables are ugly. Like this one's got the blue, this one's kind of  weird. Maybe this table because it's plain white. Oh, and I can put a plant on it, okay. Um,   somehow this is starting to look okay,  I think, I think I feel good about this. I don't really know, really hate the  color of this coat rack, I must say,   but I want to have a coat rack so  I guess I'll just deal with it. You know, a fun challenge might  be to try and do this again,   but do it only with the base game because I  think I would have a significantly harder time. Right now it's not going so badly because  I've got a lot of options just because I   have a lot of packs, but the base game  just has so much less stuff than this. Like, it would be significantly harder  I think to try and do it with that,   so let me know if I should try it,  but also maybe let's hold off and   try and finish this build first  before we make any wild plans. Oh, I need a thermostat. That doesn't  matter what color it is, it can be plain. That's totally fine. I'd like to get some  artwork too, but I don't really... I don't know,   a lot of these swatches -- oh, this  might be good, that kind of matches. Okay, there's something. I've avoided the living room long enough,  I need to actually put something in here. I did like this rug before so maybe  we could try and do that one again. I'm worried about getting too many conflicting  patterns because these are both quite similar   so maybe it's better to do something  that's more drastically different. And then ugh, I don't know about the couch. I probably should have picked this sooner instead  of basing everything on the one rug because like,   all the default swatches are so weird, unless  I wanted to do leather, but that's so dark. Oh, that might work. Also this  thing might work. You know what,   that's better, never mind,  let's use the Book Nook kit one. And the Book Nook kit actually has a  matching chair so we can use that too. I kind of like this thing, this little table. I kind of like this little tray with the candles. And then I'm thinking, I don't  know if it's a good idea or not,   but I'm kind of thinking maybe  a cat tree could go over here? The cat trees have kind of ugly colors to  them. It doesn't look very good actually. Same thing with this, I don't think that this coat  rack looks good, maybe I should get rid of it. I'm okay with the umbrellas, but  the coat rack was really not cute. Maybe I'll just get a plant. I think that the cat  tree is nice and it's kind of cozy over there. Plus the cats have the window  so they'd probably like it. I want to use this but I don't know,   I guess that brings in some of the  reddish colors from the rug and stuff. And then the cat's going to need a bowl so   we can put the little pet bowl  over here in the corner maybe? All right, somehow this living room/kitchen/dining  thing worked out and was not that bad. I think I would like to get a little  bit more funky with the bedrooms. The kids room especially we  can do some really wild stuff,   but I'm liking the idea of maybe  like a patterned wallpaper. Perhaps I could use one of the beds I never  use, like I hate this, I hate this bed. It's one of my least favorite beds in the  entire game, but does it maybe match like,   one of these wallpapers? Whoa, no, it does not. It does not match one of these wallpapers.  I don't know what I was thinking just then. Ugh, all of these have brown  trim, I don't want that either,   but I don't want to just do  plain white on the walls. Ugh. Okay, well the default options  are bad, no one's surprised by that. We could do a plain wallpaper I guess, this  is just plain white and then if we get like   a bold and brave rug or something? Is  that too much pattern, do you think? Or is it okay? There's also like this option, oh,   that might be better. That honestly  kind kind of matches nicely. I didn't really think that  it would, but maybe it does. Okay, the room color scheme is blue and beige,  but not just any blue, it's like a teal, okay? I like these, these are from Parenthood,   but I like them because they have a couple  different colors in them plus some clutter. I hate those lamps, I honestly think that  looks ugly, but it's okay, we'll make it work. I'm going to try to get a little bit  of clutter on all these nightstands. The walls are quite bland and I can't change   that so what I'm going to do  instead is make the room cute. I think it's okay if the books are kind of random  colors too, like it's sort of annoying when the   other furniture is random colors, but with books  and little clutter items, I think that's normal. Books just don't... they don't match like  that in real life, it's just not how it works. Maybe these Sims are just  really into books because   putting bookshelves everywhere is  a good way to fill up these walls. Okay, um, I kind of want to get a desk. I don't know if that's really going  to fit. Oh, this comes -- okay, wait. This one comes in plain white so maybe it does  because I want to have a computer in this house. You know, all of these default swatches are  really, really kind of working together here, I'm   really surprised at how easily this is happening  because this room, it looks good, doesn't it? I'm not really sure what chair to use. Maybe  this one because that's kind of bright. Only main complaint so far is just that  these books are kind of a bland color and   I wish that I had a better swatch for  it, but that isn't that big of a deal. And maybe I'll give the cat  another tree in this room. That's a bit ugly, wait, never  mind, sorry. That was a bad idea. The room maybe is good though, I don't know. I like it, I think. I think I like it. This kids bedroom is quite big so we could  probably fit a couple kids in here and I'm   sort of leaning towards extreme chaos with this,  like what if we used this polka dot wallpaper? Because when else am I going to do it? Okay,   the kids can each have matching beds like this  and then we can get maybe some fun curtains. There's kind of a fun rainbow swatch  of these curtains so we can use that. Oh, that's probably too much polka  dot, huh? Maybe not that rug with it,   but we can do some sort of  fun brightly colored rug. Honestly I think I like this base game rug the   best because it's such a fun color  and it sort of ties in the blue. I'm thinking I'll try and use  some bookshelves over here,   and then I'll just try and mix and match  a lot of different toys and things. Maybe we only have one bed for the kid,  they can just have like a really fancy room. They don't need to share their room, it's okay  if they have one whole giant thing to themselves. Oh, see, this little bird thing  totally matches, that's perfect. We've got our toys back here in  the corner, they have their desk. I forgot to give them a  dresser, but I'll find a spot. I'll find a spot. I don't really  like any of the dressers though,   like the colors are bad, so  maybe they don't get one. They don't need to have a dresser. Really,  really why do we need to bother with that, right? They just aren't really matching the vibes. This one's probably the closest to the vibes,  but with that bed, it just doesn't work. They can have their little nightstand,  maybe we can get one of the fun lamps   that has a lot of color on it because  like this one has the rainbow umbrella. And it's honestly miraculously  okay that we can't match those   because we're doing it for  fun, it's intentional, see? We can even get get this thing and it  looks good, it looks so intentional. And maybe I guess if I'm using some Tiny Living   stuff we could probably get  them a Tiny Living dresser. I'm not obsessed with the  colors on that, but it's okay. I'll put some crafts there or something. Oh, maybe a piggy bank. How much is too much? When should I stop? What am I  doing right now? What's the line? Maybe a backpack and then we'll stop. I don't like that backpack, but  it's okay. Kind of hidden, so. No one designs their backpack to match  their bedroom so it doesn't matter. All right, well I think that's the whole interior  of the house done, I'll come back and do a   tour at the end, but now we have to work on the  exterior which I don't think will be as difficult. Most of the landscaping only has  one swatch anyway so it won't be   too bad to do landscaping with default swatches. Oh, I want to use this  thing, but the color is ugly! Ugh, I don't know how to do the landscaping.  This tree looks bad, all the trees look bad. The house looks bad, I don't know. I really like the idea of a little bench  on the porch, I think that's so cute. And maybe we could have a couple  planter boxes or something? I'm not not really loving the color of  those, but it's not that big of a deal,   like it's fine, there are  worse parts of this build. Okay, so here's what the front  porch is looking like so far. I want to give us a slight back patio so I'm   thinking I'll try and get  some landscaping in here. Maybe they could have a pool. I  didn't really -- I hadn't really   considered that until just now, but  that might actually be kind of nice. We have a lot of space. Oh, and  I forgot to get a back gate,   we should probably have a  gate to the backyard too. You know what, that would help. I really like to put little windy pathways in the   backyard too because I think that it  helps to like, break up the space. I'll get them a pool ladder, maybe  I'll put a couple cute pool floaties. Oh no, the lounge chairs are not speaking to me. Okay, maybe I'll just do plain white then. And this is just a plain blue umbrella  which is not that exciting, but I mean,   the options are beige or  blue so I'm going for blue. I might go for beige with the table though  because we can get a little table out here. I'll put a couple chairs,  we can maybe get a grill. All right, well this is kind of what  I'm thinking so far for the outside,   maybe the last thing I'll put out here is like,  some sort of playground equipment for a kid. Oh, you know what, I could even get a telescope. Telescope and monkey bars. They  have a lot of stuff in the backyard,   they have a lot going on back there. And then I guess last thing  I'll do is just go in... And then I guess last thing I'll do is  just go in and fix some terrain paint. I am feeling a little bit disappointed  about the landscaping out here. I wish that it was different, but I think the  problem that I'm having is just that I really,   really would like to have some  sort of fence or something,   like some kind of trim around the landscaping,  and I don't like any of the default swatches. I've considered using this  one, but like, I don't know. It still doesn't look that good  to me. Maybe if I sized it down. I guess that's quite simple,  huh? It might honestly be okay. And I guess that matches the roof? Eh,   I don't know, I just -- I'm not  really obsessed with the exterior. I loved how the interior turned out  with the exception of a few things. There's always going to be a  couple parts where I'm like,   well, it's not the best thing  I've done, but it's not terrible. Especially considering we  couldn't change any swatches,   I actually think that I did a pretty decent  job of making do with what I already had. And this, my friends, is what  the finished build looks like. So on the inside we have a little front  porch here, we've got the living room,   dining room area in this space which honestly I  think turned out way better than I expected it to. And then we've got the kitchen with  like a little breakfast nook back here. You can access the back porch from this area  to get into the backyard and there's a lot   of activities out there, and then to the  right we have a bathroom in the hallway,   a little kids bedroom with a lot of  rainbow swatches, a primary bedroom,   and then an en suite bathroom so  it's a two bed, two bath house. It's slightly ugly, but not the worst. I'm going to stick this on the gallery  for you if you want to download it,   it's just called the First Swatch Challenge. And I think on that note I'm going to end this   video right here so hopefully you  enjoyed it, thank you for watching. Have a wonderful rest of your day and I'm  going to catch you all tomorrow, okay? Bye everybody. Now I'm really curious how bad it would  be to do this with just the base game,   so let me know if I should genuinely try that  because I think it would be significantly harder.
