this video is brought to you by acorn tv [Music] at least i wanted to go four and a half 36 and three-quarter pretty much a little bit shorter than these are 37 aren't they depends on which side of the kitchen oh my gosh because you know what i wanted to be able to do i wanted to be able to put it right here if i needed to for some reason yeah that one is the what an inch taller that's an inch taller than this okay well optical illusions so we'll just make it sure you can line it up with that yeah that's not even the same no it drops level it drops by 5 16 across there okay it is level so this do i have to sell this yes why because we don't have room for it i'll make room no you need to start selling stuff start selling stuff is a different statement for selling like this i have other big things i can sell like a lot of money i know that face no yes no yes okay let's go find go find stuff [Music] oh [Music] okay so we don't need that there's also what is that no i think that's i think that's old stuff hi pigs what like how you want me to repeat it so you you pretend like you say what it's got bird poop on it's a big pile of them is that your breakfast hi doggie our pigs have made this home better it's a barn it's gonna be dusty how did you get them in here i had to go that way so do that again by myself yes i'm not that strong you're very you're very strong you're a strong man you're the strongest man i'm gonna take this we have a rooster yes we do oh that wasn't a rooster that was a rooster [Music] [Music] i hear you rooster hi doggy the wrong man [Music] what go get the planer don't you and the router say we hook up the quad mobile okay that button it says wreck yes are you backing up no [Music] it's not that heavy [Applause] sassy i can back up a quad you can back up quad with the trailer i can am i moving it i'm the drivest okay so [Music] proceed [Music] oh hello how are you who's this oh hello hello big pity as long if we can avoid like tear out like that knots are one thing brandon has insisted that we do this mortise and tenon situation here because it will be stronger with the design that i want right yes he did ride cram bone porcupine froggy enough porcupine no is that not what it is you're terrible what i'm trying to remember what you were singing no you're not you know i wanna hear you sing it no i don't know it i sing i sing froggy in the porcupine that's as much as i know [Laughter] oh [Music] probably went to court and he did ride cram [Laughter] this is not 48 this is 54. oh you did dumb oh my numbers are wrong now well a half inch mortise is gonna yeah maybe you should do three eighths because our wood is only three quarters of an inch thick well that doesn't matter look at the pretty legs aren't the legs pretty yeah oh awesome yeah i don't want to make mistakes on 50 legs i just want to make sure we got it right i already found one mistake that you made i'm trying to make sure that we don't make more what mistake did i make you said it was 48 when it was 54. yeah that would have been a big dumb that would have been a very big dumb that noise is our refrigerator by the way he's doing a good job [Music] [Music] do so [Music] huh so [Music] [Music] you may be wondering why the heck are you making a table page and that's a very good question because last i checked i had a table in the kitchen that worked perfectly well well not exactly perfectly well the glorious vintage stove that was a huge aesthetic in the kitchen actually died a couple months ago and we replaced it with a stove that used to be in this kitchen before the remodel but that means i lost a valuable portion of my counter space and for some reason that just made everything so much harder to work with now when i was dreaming up this kitchen i was looking at inspiration from historic kitchens a lot of these historic kitchens especially in the large british and english manors have these really beautiful enormous central work tables i thought i could get away with the table that i had but it just wasn't functional anymore now i am well aware that i have a country farmhouse and not a big british manor that is absolutely rife with drama and intrigue but that doesn't mean i can't visit those places on occasion you know by uh checking out acorn tv acorn tv is the largest commercial free british streaming [Music] foreign [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh my god i love it how sturdy it is it's not even glued i know look how tall it is you can actually use it like counter space wow plenty of clearance because it's close so like if you end up [Music] oh [Music] hello [Music] wet paper toes [Music] okay [Music] come on this is bad lighting there we go you just thought you just have to let the camera just you're too short i can't do anything about that hey okay is that better don't lift me by that okay he built the the table it's over there drying and now we have to build the shelf this should be easy he knows how to build shelves so it's okay i built a lot of shoes he's built a lot of shelves we're just tallying up and it's this is the first table though this is the first freestanding piece of furniture you've built for us oh wow it is it is freestanding yeah that's very exciting so we're gonna go hunt down a shelf and that's it then the table's like done for your part and then i just painted then you spent the week doing the tabletop that's okay all right let's go what was that no yes no yes that's a helicopter tail you're gonna take off you got wood glue in your hair sorry am i holding a tape measure i don't need that we don't need that part of it i think it gets a little wet in the barn well the water captures right down in there yeah okay i'll guide it i just need you to catch it on the other end so [Music] huh ah do [Music] it was absolutely nothing don't worry about it i said nothing [Music] is that your way of telling me to wait yes [Music] okay brandon why is it slightly lower [Music] so i do this so that when i screw into the top it pulls down cinches down really punches down because these are when i put them under under tension they're going to shift on here slightly okay i believe you ask me how i know you you've made a few of these little blocks in your lifetime we're going to put the top on and pre-drill all the holes and then we take it off i can leave these here you can paint them and then all the holes will just line up when we put it back on okay focus on your pretty face hello tiny friend i know it has holes in it but i guess that can be the front fitter uh we have a little bit of an issue we've got a staple right there there's a little bit of an issue was that paige i don't swear on camera i swear to me yeah but not on camera my curse words what if you offended me it's beautiful [Applause] i'm supposed to hand you the screws is that right correct i think i could probably manage that lucky lucky watch the gap did okay all right boom that's why you give it a gap that's why you give it a gap okay we'll watch again we'll watch again okay boom you're watching me yeah yep i'm gonna do this head first this one over here okay hold on [Music] look at that [Music] now we have a little bit of a situation here this is all my paint and i need to dig through here and see what different colors of satin i have that i could possibly use to paint this thing so let's start pulling out paint all right what do we have here so we obviously have our primer need that this is semi-gloss white and this is satin white i like satin better but if semi-gloss is all i have then that's fine white is a possibility i don't know it seems like a lot of white in the kitchen we'll kind of see how i feel after i prime it but if i don't want white this is pretty much what i have and i'm trying to keep this project fairly inexpensive so let's see this is a satin interior satin this is the color of the doors the double doors in the kitchen so that's possibility these two are the former wrong colors that i purchased for the pantry so this is like a really acidy green and this one's a little bit of a darker green really pretty didn't end up using them so i have a full gallon of each of those 2015 this is a really old paint this is a bluish gray color um and i i don't know i painted the pie safe that's upstairs that we restored a while ago this color and it's very pretty i don't know it might work we'll see then we have the kitchen color we have the closet in the dining room color that pink and then that is the custom color for the pantry so that was the color i purchased and then some of these are other options of that color that i just mixed this with white to get a bunch of these colors so i think i'm going to get the base of it primed and then go through and do a bunch of test swatches probably on some little individual pieces of wood to see if any of these colors work we'll see [Music] um [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] do [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] so so so [Music] this is my absolutely beautiful amazing wonderful perfect finished kitchen work table let's do a little tour you can see it takes up a pretty good amount of space in the middle of the kitchen i don't think it could be really any bigger maybe it could be a little bit deeper but i think that would start to interfere with the traffic pattern here so i'm very happy with the size that we ended up with finished top size is 24 inches deep just a little bit under and then four and a half feet this way and it turns out it's just the perfect amount of working room so if you're working in the middle you have basically an arm length over here and an arm length over here i made banana bread on it yesterday amazing absolutely incredible this is the stove that we now have glass cooktop electric yeah yeah at least it's white i'll take that but eventually i'm going to change this i don't know what i'm going to replace it with i don't think i want another vintage electric because i had some problems with it so i don't know i that's that's to be determined but it's fine for now there is enough clearance here some people would probably not like this because you can't stand directly in front of the oven and do anything but honestly this thing maybe weighs 70 pounds you can just kind of shove it that way if you need to plenty of clearance for most things when i lost that stove i did also lose a bunch of storage so a lot of the pots and pans have had to come out into other locations i hung these two on the wall here some are underneath here and the rest actually fit perfectly underneath in this shelf now this shelf i debated so much about doing lower shelves about doing more shelves less shelves this thing is perfect because it's pretty much right at your hip height easily accessible it's about seven inches of clearance which is i mean it's it's everything that you would need so underneath here i have sauce pans kind of double stacked here this is a basket for canning stuff i would like a bigger one so i can utilize the back of this a little bit better this came this basket came from walmart actually and it's amazing because it actually has dividers i think it was like 10 bucks so i think i want to get another one of those or maybe even two so i can put them right here and just keep all of my most frequently used kitchen utensils just literally in the most convenient place in the entire kitchen my efficiency brain is loving this so much and then the whole reason that this uh cubby is sized the way that it is is so that it will fit these bowls i got these at the thrift store forever ago i use them all the time previously i didn't have a good storage spot for them they were just sitting on that stool under there and now they have an actual home they have a place that they are are good and they're not going to go anywhere and they're protected so they're not going to get all full of dirt and i am shocked at how much functionality this little area provides and i think also because it's not very chunky it still looks like a table like i i'm aware that people are going to be like paige you built an island no i built a table and because it doesn't drop all the way down to here and it's not this big block i think it still kind of retains the essence of a table but being super functional so the color turned out just perfect you can see like here it looks white when you put it up against actual white it's just a little bit different not a ton it doesn't fight with the door color it doesn't fight with the green pantry but when i had it primed and it was all white it was just it was too much i need i need more drama in my life you know me so this is just white paint with a little bit of this wall color mixed in i just painted two coats on most of it i think the underneath only has one coat but you know nobody looks under there i love how it's just more open because the legs are so high i've moved the cat bowls out of here it just i can get a vacuum under there i can keep my house a little bit cleaner and soon i'm going to get rid of this cleaning bucket i'm going to get rid of that stool so this can be more open and it just feels so much better and so much more open which is amazing because it has so much more storage the waterlox countertop turned out absolutely beautiful i love fur because it gets this really delicious orangey yummy pumpkin color when you put any kind of poly or water locks on it and because these are salvaged boards you have some you know just interesting staining and it just makes it look to me a little bit more old-fashioned not quite so neat and new and tidy so all in all we spent i think right around 250 on this which was pretty much entirely in the legs and in this piece of wood that did this kind of big chunk right here everything else we had i had all the paint i had the water locks we had the salvage wood top but i didn't think i could buy one that was this functional for less money than that so i'm extremely pleased with it look at the pretty little feet aren't those just the cutest this is amazing this has added so much functionality i can't wait i've already started using it i already love it i can't wait to use it more so the way brandon built this was a little bit complicated i had initially planned to just build it by myself and i was going to use a pocket hole drill thing and screws so i did write up kind of a short blog post about how we sort of put it together and how you could build one similarly if you wanted to on your own including a link for the table legs so there'll be a link for that in the description again make sure you check out acorn.tv and use the code farmhouse to get 30 days free of acorn tv which is very exciting and i hope you enjoyed the video thank you so much for watching i will see you next time i'm going to go off and hang out on my table bye [Music] you
