Build One of These Instead of Playing a Cajon

there's one thing that every drummer hates say it with me moving your gear imagine a drum set so compact that it fits in a mere 9 by 16 by 26 inch box and even has a handle on it like a suitcase a suitcase drum set there's three goals I need to meet with this project first to use as many things as I already have the only thing I bought for this project was the suitcase which I found on Facebook Marketplace and after shipping I paid 54 dollars for it second goal it should probably sound halfway decent this is supposed to replace a real drum set after all we'll see about that and then third and most important is everything needs to fit inside of the suitcase [Music] let's start off by making this a little bit more sturdy and also find a way to attach the bass drum pedal let's grab some floor time leg mounts and for the pedal we can use this hinge [Music] now I drilled this hole a bit bigger so I can fit this magnet inside it kind of got stuck a little crooked but I'll glue it in straight and instead of having a flappy hinge it stays together now [Music] that is a lot more better with the boring stuff done now we can get a little more creative we need a snare yep back in there is what we need I would like the Hat damn acorns I would like to have at least one Tom but uh kind of slim picking up here let's grab this monstrosity [Music] [Applause] foreign this old tambourine at Goodwill and you'll see that it has these clips that hold the head on to the Shell might be onto something the bottom clip wants to fit the shell is flat right now so we can round it over so it fits a little bit better and then let me grab a drum head oh yeah that will definitely grab onto the head this actually might just work [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] not my proudest work but considering we started with junk I'll take it well maybe not actually I can't exactly get enough tension on these clips so they sound kinda not good but I have an idea [Music] I know this is the wrong type of mount for this type of Mount but we'll get to that in a second [Music] foreign [Music] as soon as I added the hinge for the pedal I had a feeling that the weight of all the drums might be a little too much but thankfully I have even more floor tom legs foreign [Music] I would say that's a lot better so now let's add the other time and maybe some symbols we'll start with a small little symbol arm then we can add a clamp to that and then an arm and then we can mount the Tom foreign now we just need some symbols we definitely need a splash symbol for that arm that should do and then for the hi-hats I'll need this thing which I made in a previous video for the actual hi-hats I know that a combination of this Pisces six inch Bell and this six inch Hammer ax Bill make a nice combination [Music] also just because it's really small here's another splash foreign to have the six inch Lance Campo crispy bacon hi-hats 2016. those were the good old days [Music] been a minute since I played the Dorito bill so why not add them for some reason I feel like it's still not complete for some reason whenever I'm in doubt I know I can trust you all to give me suggestions let me ask on YouTube then let me post something on my Instagram story and then let me post a teaser of this on patreon and see what they have to say so we'll come back to that but in the meantime one of the things I really don't like about this is the bass drum remember one of the goals is this thing needs to sound good I already planned on using this beater because it's a little bit softer so let's give this a try it's better but still not good I have an idea for the bass drum it's either gonna be a genius idea or I completely destroy it a drum is I actually don't know the definition of a drum a percussion instrument consisting of a hollow cylinder or hemisphere with a membrane stretch tightly over one or both sides played by beating with hands or sticks technically this isn't a drum it's a box but it is a box covered in a membrane so I think if I remove a circle of the plywood on the box where the beater hits but I leave the leather then it becomes a draw [Music] thank you [Music] [Music] that wasn't too bad [Music] [Applause] a good set in a massive suitcase my 23 piece drum set thinking about this wrong I just need to get a giant suitcase and put my drum set inside of it gasoline and a match that's what I would put on it if I had to play one honestly I kind of feel like doing the same to this one playing nine record sticker for extra tone unfortunately that extra tone is reserved for my toolbox maybe I should have done a toolbox drum set and I could have done a tool cover on it as long as it had a functioning hi-hat pedal I'd be golden you know that's the thing about suitcase drum sets you could add beans and flamethrowers and beer holders and anything else to it but still it doesn't really feel like a drum set and what he said about the hi-hat pedal is very true if you've ever played a drum set without a hi-hat pedal even if you don't play the hi-hats you feel very naked without one and thankfully I just so happen to have a cable hi-hat pedal that I built out of an old hi-hat stand some random Hardware I think that's a drumstick shoved in there and a lawnmower or throttle cable [Music] yo not gonna lie this is actually really fun to play on especially with the new hi-hat setup foreign I did have some trouble miking the bass drum so I drilled a sneaky little hole under this latch which still works by the way so I could put the cable and the mic inside [Music] I accomplish goal number one and I'm gonna let you all vote on goal number two so let's hear this with some music [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] now for a really important moment does all the stuff fit in the suitcase that takes up a lot of space that takes up a little less space this is the thing that scares me because I actually can't really compress it down too much foreign key and of course your sticks oh crap the throne
