Budget Gaming Setup CHALLENGE - Scrapyard Wars 8 Part 1

it's scrapyard wars time again and it's gonna be a little different instead of having two teams competing to see who can build the fastest gaming PC within a given budget we are gonna have two teams compete to see who can build the best overall gaming setup within a shoestring budget that's right gaming tower monitor keyboard mouse desk and even chair all have to be purchased for just six hundred overall gaming setup when we can't just benchmark a solution to that the answer is the tournament we are about to participate in right now so guys this is how your team is going to be determined we're gonna split things up as fairly as we can and determine the winner based on the overall gaming performance of the teams versus each other once they've completed their setup now a lot of these rules will be familiar if you're a scrapyard Wars veteran but there are some new ones your system must be composed of a PC monitor keyboard mouse desk and chair a minimum of $300 and a maximum of $800 has to be spent per system so there's a lot of room for creativity in there the system must be enclosed Luke I'm not touching the floor the chair and desk must survive the competition Luke and everyone cut the games we'll be using to evaluate the skill of our participants our csgo overwatch and dirt rally - we can't really bend people from playing these games outside of work hours but I think gentlemen's agreement we probably shouldn't be spending every waking moment outside of work playing these games any other questions our computers assigned to people so if my computer isn't ready by the game time can I let someone can I use someone else's while weaker player is the one who doesn't have a computer realistically your team won't have a weaker player oh my god it is up to the teams to decide how to allocate computers and peripherals as they see fit this is the wrong game I think we're supposed to be playing siege is this a timed game or let it be known that I've only played this game like boys that's two more time for me so no way I what yeah were you and last yeah rip shut up I'm I've never played this game before you just point click what the hell you can have a turret uh I just got a monkey punched you a turret no Luke so you're cold this ping turret pop your alt on me you serious no I'm large but you can shoot other people goddamn everybody my bun Lou there's four people shooting me there's only six of us in the game stay away from me I don't know how to do anything other than fire my primary weapon so you got me for like way across the map our next game is a racing game and I'm informed it's more of like a simulation style racing game don't show anyone this footage what are you doing James maybe Jesus we're flying [Music] oh no no no I flipped Oh what mash windshield doesn't matter if you're behind the car oh my god that's a lot better [Music] I did quite poorly cuz mouse and keyboard but I'm guessing it 2w I don't actually know so basically here's how it works depending on how we all performed in the games on equal footing we're gonna divide up the teams evenly and then it's basically gonna come down to who can build the best gaming setups so csgo was Colton Luke then me overwatch was Jake by a country mile followed closely by Luke and me and then everyone else dirt rally was Alex Colton than me so what does it come to then alright team team calyx is that what our name is that's - Conda hell let's call our team just the winning team it's gonna be really embarrassing when you lose Colton's the top scoring player Wow my the team captain this is a weird turn of events I don't know what you're gonna do what was the options kitchen or a writers area for sure alright nice it's like overwatch in 3v3 it's like we got yes I'm not worried about overwatch at all playing soldier all right am I in over here can I start one thing we should figure out as well right now is like minimum and recommended specs for these games like what type what where dirt is gonna be the problem I think because the other two games can run on pretty craptastic hardware csgo CPU is gonna be important I think we want something it's got to be at least quad core newer than court to generation cuz that's gonna hit us hard so like a 2600 K would be awesome or a 3700 K I just found a dining set a table and four chairs for 20 bucks do we have a vehicle that can take it that's a good question are we allowed to use a work truck I booked it for all times that you're not using it for the rest of the week like if you have something specific you need to pick up okay hi hi that's a lot what res any 1080 is not that hard to run any minimum 1080 high on a thing that's recommending us at a 1070 that's gonna be rough well what if we bought it with your pre builds today and then just practiced all week I don't think that's gonna give us enough of an advantage I think that's a way better advantage than just having a slightly better computer well if this pre-built can't run the game we're trying to run i five forty four sixty with the with the gtx 1064 four hundred thirty bucks and Coquitlam Linus also said that we can play the games outside of work we can't really ban people from playing these games outside of work hours he just doesn't want to spending every waking minute yeah but I think gentlemen's agreement we probably shouldn't be spending every waking moment outside of work playing these games so idea number one CR T's I'm down four monitors yeah if we can find them cheap are we able to we can probably find them free these really aren't worth that much and I and I am super very desperate for monitor can I come pick it up for a ten okay I'm gonna try and get that CRT for ten bucks so here's the listing clearly a CRT monitor message is back this is not CRT monitor is a 17 inch LCD monitor with sound system and TV tuner and video inputs I bought it for $800 I'm sure you googled the specs of this monitor sorry you can't do what by the way I have a CRT 17 inch monitor you can have that for 10 dollars why did you say that in the first place a huge disappointment for me today was that my idea of going and getting CRT monitors is basically a bad idea the only two I found were 650 and $1500 because they were like like really good ones that all the vintage gamers want crap that's not what I'm looking for another idea I had is one table for all of us well even the stools I was gonna say I can grab like a chainsaw from home and I can go out and I can get a tree and I can just make some stools out of like a tree really yeah I'd be free where would you find the tree I got to go a little further out so one thing about the whole desk thing is that I've got steps cheap for the next two days I knew it what I wasn't being punished being put on your team I literally woke up this morning I was like she's like have a good day and I was like I'm taking your Jeep and then she's just like wide-eyed me and then I was like have a good day and I left that's literally what happened oh this card was used for dota 2 and got about 80 FPS I have one really bad idea yeah one power supply just get one good one power all the computers off of it okay that would be a good idea but getting the splitters for them is hard well I was thinking just getting wire I think there's a reason you don't do that do we want to do $600 per person and try to build balanced systems I think balanced is the way to go balance is the way to go and like we know like what to spend the money on and what not to we also need to figure out if there's any extra expenses that we're gonna incur so Alex you need a controller correct no I like I won there on the keyboard having a better mouse for the FPSs would probably go a lot okay so we're going better mice crappy keyboards yeah correct like I'm a bin it's dirt really too hard to run it's not super hard like if you put the settings down in the gutter it's pretty easy no we have to all run the same settings it has standardized settings that will be running they're pretty high as far away as I recall when I was driving here this morning I was like you know to be pretty sick to have Jake on my team because he's like kind of a jerk about like getting deals and that would be sick on my team does Jake a like half offer someone and just not care at all I'm gonna say for my nephew for Christmas yeah Christmas birthday birthday okay oh boy I'm a terrible human being oh hey man I'm calling about the the gaming PC you have for sale on Craigslist you got time to talk right now sure okay so I just like a couple things I'm basically I'm trying to build a computer for my little brother for his birthday or find a computer for him because he really wants to play Minecraft this seemed like it would be good specs for that but I'm wondering if there's any wiggle room on your price I kind of kind of a bit limited on budget they sir 108 is a new one right right it's just kind of a kind of like a no-name brand yeah I just it's kind of like a no-name brand like you know yeah yeah well that's what yeah that's what I mean I'd like to to replace it with something so like with that in mind do you think you could do like 350 as I said I still got to buy a monitor and keyboard and mouse five 3:8 385 can we call it 380 and so save me that the change yeah we're gonna lowball that guy when we go pick this up he'll take 350 hundred percent one of the things I try to do when I'm buying stuff on Craigslist is spec it out like on ebay on other prices as individual parts and just you know kind of throw that at them like you know this doesn't really make sense but I think he might be pretty close on the money especially for getting a keyboard and a mouse I'm trying to get or build a computer for my little brother for his birthday so that system without the without the graphics card 220 without that sis T okay that's not bad is there any advantage for us to spend less than our total amount of money no so we should spend all of it yeah if we can okay it's a recap a bit this guy is selling all these stuff new so we're gonna be paying kind of retail price but he can get us an i5 with eight gigs of ram no SSD we'll have a hard drive at least for only 220 bucks how much should we want to spend on monitors I'm willing to spend more on longest I other than that they're gonna have crappy stuff too so I don't really care if they see our stuff there is an office Inc acquit ylim that's getting rid of all of their like tables chairs filing cabinets and stuff like that the posting was done like just over an hour ago so I don't think the other teams had enough time to actually jump on it as fast as we were able to our team captain is killing it he found free chairs and desks already meanwhile Alex and I have not secured a single deal I've got a pretty heavy deal you've secured a deal yeah there's the 470 and a motherboard that I'm getting tomorrow oh that's a done deal oh okay nevermind well I haven't secured a single deal oh dude we are in business baby all right so we just rolled up and they have lots of stuff so we're gonna have to go through it my only problem is the same thing as before I don't think we're gonna be able to fit as much stuff as I'd like in this thing probably should have taken the work truck in to the office what else we got I can potentially get r9 283 gigabyte for 80 bucks in burnaby today is that even a good deal though here's a 3.4 gigahertz quad core with eight gigs of ram and a 1050 Ti it's it's ready to rock for three hundred and forty five bucks that's really not bad and then we just have a computer yeah I'm really worried about peripherals wait which one did I just message that because the other like six wheels are there I'm just kind of calling around to some computer stores to see if anybody if they have anything that they're about to throw out that might not be of any value to you guys but my you know work is a case or something like that oh damn Zeon for 250 I thought you're doing a 26 well there's two so I have the one that doesn't have a graphics card with the 2600 K for 200 bucks and then this one is a Xeon and an Rx for 70 people aren't gonna want to buy this one either because it has a Xeon people are gonna be like oh that's spooky server stuff but that's actually a really solid CPU is that Xeon to low-end would we have to upgrade that no it's a toy it's a 1270 v3 it's like really solid Jake's got lines on two desktops that looks like really good ideas and I'm trying to figure out the third monitor but the best option I have for that the person definitely only speaks Chinese and so I'm gonna wait for Andy to come back and hopefully Andy can give him a call he he just replied me and he's saying that all like the monitor I own is like full HD and the keyboard is brand-new and I can do two for like thank you okay that I mean that's still a good deal so that's cool hi I was wondering if you're the monitor that you had listed is still available the lg monitor yeah okay would I be able to pick it up tomorrow bunny chance okay keyboards in a mouse and hopefully we'll make it back here by the end of the day so how that kind of sets us up is we have one full tower that's done we're gonna be having one tower that's great except it's missing a graphics card we have one tower that's a giant question mark right now so we need like a GPU and one more tower that's not that bad especially it's still the first day I didn't even try to negotiate the guy down he had a whole room full of computers and laptops and mining rigs and stuff so clearly he is buying and reselling it's actually just like a straight a sir prevail that you would get from like a a business wholesale auction with a graphics card slapped in there better power supply but hopefully she should be good enough okay so it sounds like Jake's pretty well set up to be honest I didn't realize that he had already lined up another 10 60 for the second system so that effectively means our first two systems are completely done okay quick quick question for ya Jake found the last computer guy offered it to most 450 bucks but I had budgeted $400 per Tower and we had spent 340 on one of them and 380 on the other so we had saved $80 total already and then that tower was $50 over so we still ended up saving $30 in total on all of the towers hope I don't spend too much time around hey man what's up nice to meet you yeah did I say that I said Luke actually because I'm act my the friend who called you earlier was me it was my friend Lou thank you so much thank you guys yeah we'd definitely park illegally my only concern during the monitor test I want to make sure that indeed was HD I wanted to see that it was running at 60 Hertz it does look pretty smeary but it's not like broken smeary I was just moving some windows around to make sure that it wasn't like a total sandbox but it doesn't look great for the price it's good enough I think I won big on the teammates they're both hungry you know they want to win we do have the best gamer out of the group apparently we're gonna win I think we're gonna win my biggest concern honestly speaking isn't me this time around because I can I help my own in csgo but overwatch I have no idea what I'm doing and dirt rally even though I did put up a pretty good time that was my second run guys I didn't even finish the first time I am sweating so hard right now I'm stressed out I honestly my biggest concern right now is that I'm extremely relaxed and this is probably the first time on a day one of a scrapyard Wars I've been relaxed I think we have too much money I think that's what's going on I need to figure out monitors okay I also need a CPU cooler make sure its socket compatible 5 inches tall you know when your spec is 5 inches tall you're gonna have no idea what we're asking when we want to know what socket it fits on here's three monitors for a hundred and ninety dollars in the ninth fly their flock their fly so on blown away that cheap monitors are so hard to find like you can get a cheap TV easier than a monitor it feels like but I came up with one idea here searching for a specific brand seems to yield more usable result I put in NEC monitor now I'm 20 bucks 20 bucks 20 bucks okay so we just need to search for like old brands here's a 1080p one for 20 bucks hey sir not bad does it have a standard it does not have a stand doesn't have a step that should be fine yeah we can just prop it up VGA only watch out for that ruff but are we I guess that depends on if we have VGA we probably won't I mean we could make this work we're allowed to steal screws from the workshop and as long as we have a piece of 2x4 to screw into our table and some screws to like friggin some tape yeah I wouldn't mind our teens that monitor just to make sure it doesn't have like 80 milliseconds of input lag or something stupid like that yeah we're gonna check that so Tony the guy with the computer that we thought was a pretty good deal but actually maybe isn't a great deal but also who had all the peripherals and stuff he's about 10 minutes from here do you want a show I don't think I can show up there cuz I had my name on my profile at first when I was messaging him but you want to go check it out sure okay I and so what exactly have you negotiated here also Colton saying that the free office chairs look rankest that's fine yeah who cares okay with ranked chairs there yeah I'll send that over to you so we're going for basic keyboards monitor and headsets maybe yeah I'll just go take a look buddy with the six core workstation for 160 has a pending sale it's the other guys yeah the good news is that this CPU is really slow so what was the GPU even that one basically unusable they'd be replacing it it's like an FX something like Quadro FX no yeah but this thing is upgradable like it's it's usable so that's good for us to know you try screen computer screen you have Craig's listed before I feel like I need to wear crappier clothing tomorrow like I'm showing up in a sports car wearing basically like a young professional clothing and I'm going to lowball this guy like it's not gonna add up hello Tony hey come on in don't worry about your shoes we're heading down a bit now all right thank you how much is it for this guy well I know when I talked with him before we were trying to do a full computer and stuff so yeah I found another one so yeah yeah no worries I was thinking we do 15 bucks a set for all three per set so be forty five four three keyboards Mouse and headset so I only need one Mouse really okay something we're looking at like this keyboard this one yeah you need the headsets or no ideally yes okay just don't want to spend too much on those so you can get cheap ones yeah pretty cheap I don't need all of these mice I only want you only need one yeah let's say God 40 bucks then the guy immediately recognized me so I couldn't really do any like low-balling your stuff but I did get three keyboards three headsets two mice and an Intel stock cooler so you've like actually got like kind of decent usable look inches in here hey I contributed to the team today I got a lead okay so how much did you pay for all this 40 bucks Alex came back with a bin of peripherals the guy did recognize him but he only bought what we had already negotiated in our messages so we should be in good shape there we are set on headsets keyboards and we've actually got a mouse that he forgot to take and he's on his way back there to go get thank you all right got the mouse you know myoh blow to the pride honestly speaking I felt kind of useless today I'm a little foggy from getting over a cold and I probably could have handled keeping track of all my different line items in my budget for one system but three systems I was just finding kind of overwhelming towards the end of the day I managed to get something down on paper and the budget is looking like it could sort of be balanced but other than Colton's desks and chairs like we didn't really get anything today actually no that's not true we did get our headsets and keyboards you guys ready to see your new tables and chairs yeah are they that bad what dude they got like a patio set I mean that's one way to do it they're not gonna be able to fit all of their systems on that look at that thing
