I watched it live after hearing about it on the WAN Show on the LTT channel.

Honesty it was fantastic, with several laugh-out-loud moments throughout.

Iā€™m not usually one to watch 2+ hour livestreams, but this one was great. I hope they continue to explore this format!

go online stream is on youtube on welcome ladies and gentlemen to the pc troubleshooting and tech support challenge of the decade and i can say that with confidence because as far as i can tell nobody's ever done anything quite like this before the rules are simple you can only use computers and additional components provided by the competition organizers for your troubleshooting you may not view the live stream during the competition to gain an advantage over your opponent and unless specified the programs and files that you need are already installed on your computer using google is of course fair game now let's meet our contestants both of them very famous tech youtubers famous for building computers overclocking computers tuning computers modding computers and today we're going to find out which of them is better at fixing computers the stream is sponsored by intel and i am very proud to announce that our competitors are going to be the one and only jay's two cents and steve from gamers nexus jay keep it classy my brother i'm ready so you guys both have your systems right in front of you i want you guys to go ahead and start unboxing them while i walk through what some of the rules are going to be with my color commentator yo austin what's up man hello friends i'm just really excited for not ltpstore.com i'm just very excited for that you actually just registered that didn't you i did just register it i know i know that's how how videos come about but man you stole my idea it's okay it's okay so why don't we walk through what the goals of the challenge are goal number one is to get the computer to post so that means get through that that black screen at the beginning uh all the way to you know the the windows loading screen goal number two is to actually boot the installed operating system goal number three is to run the following benchmarks blender the bmw fishy cat and classroom tests and we've actually got time targets to make sure that your system is performing properly you have to run the heaven benchmark with a minimum score of 2025 you've got to download cinebenches r15 and r20 and hit the minimum scores for those and finally and pay very close attention to the specifics here you need to use the shortcut on the desktop to run metro exodus you do not need to download any additional files to run this game and i promised you guys before we started the stream that i had a special little uh surprise for you a little twist so this was supposed to be for nothing other than glory but i've decided to pony up and throw in a little prize not only will the winner between the two of you be the greatest pc tech support youtuber in the universe because no one else has built a competition to determine this so you know it's pretty fair to say that it's universe wide you will also be the proud owner of one thousand dollars personally and three thousand dollars for the charity of your choice wow that's right my friends i'm pawning up i wanna see you guys go hard today you gotta go hard so ready and three two one begin some of the variations i guess some things here you guys have the exact same builds right so all the same modifications that have been done to both systems are identical so theoretically assuming that they haven't been destroyed in shipping you should have the exact same challenges in front of you the way that i see i didn't expect linus to actually provide us a power cable so i got my own shipping to me is kind of like an x factor so for the viewers tuning in at home the basic premise is this austin and i each have a list of wow a not inconsequential number of things that have been modified and or um tampered with about these systems in order for them to achieve all of their goals they will basically have to fix all of them okay one of the things we did jay is noticing that we ship the systems without graphics cards in them i just lost them that's just best practice i'm noticing this one says gpu obviously we would have ideally like to ship them with the graphics cards pre-installed now austin what do you think of the different approaches here so steve's already laid his computer down whereas jay has decided to go with a less conventional standing up troubleshooting technique here well so the thing with this challenge is that there are certain elements that are down to the actual competitors as far as the raw skill level so if you're any say graphics issues of installing the gpu then you know there's exactly one problem and that is the one in between your ears so the thing is as we watch i'm really curious to see how they go through the process because as they both know right now there are many issues with the systems up and down so i'm curious to see where they each start and what sort of they hone in on do they do a full hardware check do they check cabling do they check the bios they try to just create the windows and work backward there's a lot of different variables that could determine how much time you place because we have to remember this is the competition whoever can complete all the challenges first wins it's not about sitting around and staring at your graphics card lovingly like uh jay was doing a minute ago yeah here's what i'm a little confused by uh are we we're not in steven jay's chat right now right okay austin you and i have a private private conversation right now what is steve doing why is he removing all of the motherboard screws with that extremely overkill uh drill right there well i thought it expecting sabotage which is not an unreasonable thing which is fair which is fair so i assume he's checking um to make sure that it is securely mounted make sure there's no shenanigans yeah to make sure that there is a if you installed in the first place would probably be where i would be thinking and that is taking it off right now okay it looks like steve may be the first one to find one of the problems so the cpu is missing thermal paste although you know what i actually can't tell if he has uh why is he removing all the motherboard screws i don't get it he okay he must expect crazy i don't know why the motherboard would need to come out for that me neither but you know what i think jay's found something too so they've each found at least one problem so far jay has found that our his memory was installed in single channel mode so the memory was not installed in the correct slots for dual channel operation to give you guys out there viewing from home some idea of what these guys are up against there are a total of nine problems with the hardware of the system and why don't we just go through this for you guys so jay already found that the ram is installed in the wrong slots for dual channel operation and steve already removed his cpu cooler and probably noticed because he's a pretty observant guy that there is no thermal compound installed on his cpu cooler but there's more the front panel button pins are not plugged in correctly into the asus q connector easy connector thing so that's going to be a tough one to troubleshoot because there's actually two stages of connection there the cpu8 pin has been disconnected from the motherboard the m.2 ssd is in the slot but not fully inserted so it probably won't boot that's a tough one uh what else we got here austin so the 24 pin connector is um i think it's really fine because the back panel is nearly unplugged but it's also on backwards the aio configuration so one of the things these challenges it's not just purely about getting the system to work so we have a list of benchmarks that should be that's right at a very high level if say someone runs the bmw benchmark and they and they are losing performance and they actually need to rerun that again right exactly that means that they've either forgotten to put their thermal compound on or they've missed like the so when you say a push push configuration uh let's go ahead and explain that for a second so normally when you've got a radiator guys you've got your your rad and then on one side or both sides you're going to have fans those are what are actually removing the heat from your water cooling system and if you've got fans on both sides you would either have them in well you would have them in push pull so when you've got one bank of fans you have them pushing air through or pulling air through and when you put on two you would have one bank pushing air through and the other bank pulling it through so they're working together well the radiators in steven j's systems have the fans installed facing each other so they're actually fighting against each other now in the quick blender test like the bmw test that probably won't cause a problem there's enough water in that system that it's gonna take a while for it to heat up but if they try to run all these blender tests back to back to back well by the end of it they're about six seven minutes into running intensive benchmarks their classroom score is not going to be good enough their cpu is not going to be running at an optimal temperature so i'm really excited to see how closely they're looking here and that's going to be a really challenging thing because it looks like so jay i can't quite tell it looks like he's just sort of fiddling around with things and looks like he may be just trying to boot the system and see where the problems lie whereas we're seeing on the gamer's next side i mean this system looks like it is entirely taken apart already working on the air oh good catch steve that would have been a really difficult one to find because you're right you could have been five minutes into your bed then you realize that you have a problem you pretty much would have had to start from scratch right and we're just talking about the hardware there's also quite a few things on the software and the bios side that these guys are going to have to look for but i do think i mean oh okay system is on oh okay that was that was exciting copying noise okay i'll just uh i'll i'll chat with the people for a little bit guys we're working on austin's audio thank you very much for letting us know so in the meantime why don't i run through some of the problems that they're going to encounter once they get past the hardware stage here oh no look at this oh jay found another problem so the gpu one of the power cables is disconnected but it's a modular power supply so the disconnection is actually at the power supply side so he's going to have to dig around in the system's basement and find out why it is that the pci express connector he's plugging into his graphics card right there is not working oh i love it what is j plugging in right now all right excuse me what is steve plugging in right now what is that red cable he's got going on there see i've got one of these i've got an identical system to the one they've got right in front of me here and uh i don't see any red i don't see any red cables i don't know i don't know what he's uh i don't know what he's got there very interesting so i see what steve's doing this is his play like you said austin his goal is to pull the whole thing out and basically run it on an open test bench and then i think he's probably just going to build the system after the fact once he's actually determined that everything is in fact running okay so jay is digging around in the power supply box why don't we run through the specs of these systems because i've got a fun little surprise for our viewers as well so these are each running an intel core i7 10 700k uh the stream is sponsored by intel today uh the participants though just to be very clear they're not sponsored by intel other than just like that we have offered them a prize linus media group has offered them a prize for participating that's it so just the video itself is sponsored by intel uh so we're running a core i7 10 700k in these systems with an aorus aio cooler and asus z490 maximus 12 hero motherboard 16 gigs of 3200 megahertz g skill rgb memory a sabrint one terabyte m.2 nvme boot drive they've got evga 2070 super graphics installed in an in-win 805 case and each of our systems has a viewsonic xg270 qg monitor and a seasonic prime tx1000 power supply and my understanding is we are giving away not one not two but hey colton how many of these systems we given away free we're going to be giving away three of these systems to lucky viewers all right let's go ahead and check in so jay is firing up what is what is jay working on right now can i get a can i get a feed into jay i just want to have a quick chat with him see how things are going over there let's see just give me a signal when i'm ready to go we can get a post i'm good hey jay what's up hey how are you is it go on my main man tell me what you tried so you built it first of all oh damn dang well the ram the ram was in the wrong slot 24 pin wasn't plugged in eight pin wasn't plugged in pci express wasn't plugged in front panel connectors were wrong um i've already repaired all that plugged in all the fans that we gotta post wow so jay's making excellent progress here he has found just over half of the problems so we're gonna go in here now it says no cpu fan running we got aio in here so obviously i'm going to go check the monitor make sure that that is temperature is good so we know the pump is running so i can go ahead and just disable the cpu fan monitor and let's go ahead and see now if we can even get into any sort of an os so we're up and running graphics card's installed and uh yeah so that's where we are now we gotta get some sort of baseline though okay uh chase popped me out of jay's chat here i wanna just uh connect with the viewers about what's going on operating system wasn't found try disconnecting any drives that don't contain operating systems there's only one driving there's only one state unless it's booting to the sata so here's jay's approach i actually really like this he's gone for the low-hanging fruit right off the hop here so he's gone around and he's done really what i would expect to do um if a customer were to show up with uh with like a system that they you know can't figure out how to use or they are they tried to build themselves like this would happen back at when i was working at ncix all the time you'd have a customer buy a bunch of parts they'd try to build it themselves and then they would bring it in because they couldn't get it working so he's gone after all those really typical errors that a user might make so loose connectors ram in the wrong slots mostly a lot of loose connectors but there are some things that he hasn't noticed because he's got to go a layer deeper in order to find them so one of them is that uh he hasn't actually taken the cooler off of his cpu yet to discover that his thermal paste hasn't been installed he also doesn't seem to have looked that closely at his all-in-one cooler he's made some assumptions it seems about how good of a job we did of how good of a job we did of actually well assembling the system now steve's doing something really interesting can i get uh can i get piped into steve here actually i'm gonna go ahead i'm gonna drop myself in with steve unfortunately i've got uh what is going on here i've got my own audio in my ear which is super obnoxious there we go twitch ads see ya hey steve can you hear me steve what's up uh guys can i get patched into steve when you get a sec i want to do a quick check in with him can you guys drop me in with steve please you should be in right now i should be okay ah yes okay well i think my uh i think my stupid airpods are being stupid if i could get a uh a four-pole a four-pole just like mic with uh with a headphone built into yes yeah all right excuse me a 4-pole headphone with a mic built into it that would be great i unfortunately forgot my backpack today otherwise i would have one on me okay let me just think what can i do real quick here uh no uh okay no what i what i need is i just need a working working headset this is this is not working thank you thank you apple for this spectacular airpods pro bluetooth experience that i'm having here oh that's brutal okay uh is austin's audio back it should be it should be hey austin are you uh oh right he can't hear me because this stupid thing is broken well you know how it is when you try to go live right ladies and gentlemen that's fine because i can figure out some of what's going on based on just looking at it so they've both made their way to the bios but what i can tell you guys now is that there is a real solid chance that neither of them has actually solved all of the hardware problems yet so they're both taking a go hard go fast approach rather than a ghost logo thorough approach even though i actually do really like steve's concept of i don't have any type a ports on this computer so i'm going to need a type c dongle i believe there's one behind you colton there should be one in that and that's in those bins back there somewhere um so neither of them has gone super thorough even though i do like steve's strategy of building his system on an open bench in order to sort of make it a little bit easier to to get at now what is jay doing right now steve's going through all of his bio settings actually now is a good time for me to go through what we have messed with in the bios so we enabled cpu and cpu alt fan monitoring which causes a startup error jay has already solved that problem simply by disabling the error we have disabled boot option one which is the windows boot manager so this thing will not boot into windows right out of the box even if they figure out that the ssd is not properly installed it is set to legacy boot only so they are going to need to flip it over to uefi we've disabled the networking so there are things they are going to need to download as part of this process they are going to need to for example launch a game which requires an internet connection uh wi-fi is disabled in the bios as well so they will have no network connection whatsoever and xmp is also disabled so that's going to hurt their performance because their memory is not going to be running at full speed now i didn't get a good look at what steve's got going on in his bios there but i will take a closer look in a second once i check in with him we have hyper threading disabled and we've also disabled a couple of the cores so i'm going to go ahead and pop this uh pop this headset up in here all right i am i am in with steve right now hey steve how you doing i i'm doing great can i can i just do a quick check in with you i just want you to tell me about how the experience is going so far what have you what do you feel like you've found so far this is about what i expected a computer out of linus tech tips to look like so i'd i'd say this is i mean honestly you guys have improved a lot from the last time i saw you build the computer so really congratulations on that you know you've built a good team that can do stuff for you so good job linus yeah come on hit me up tell me what you found tell me what you found so far i can i i'll even give you a hint i'll i'll tell you what percentage of the hardware problems you found i don't need your p i need your pity i need your hint hey i gave the same hint to jay don't you want a level playing field sir no it would be it would be unfair then oh so you're confident is what you're trying to say just enough what are you doing right now well i saw you guys very sneakily uh plugged well didn't plug the ssd in you i i looked i was like why is it not booting there's nothing secure boot enabled i looked under the under the ssd uh heatsink and it was just sitting there not plugged in so it was very clever issue that's a good find i think you're the first to find that one so far i'll take it now i have a judge question for you about your strategy of disassembling the computer before you actually started to troubleshoot it i was very confused i was like why is he pulling the motherboard out of the case yeah uh it is a lot well i don't actually really build computers and cases anymore uh so it's a lot easier for me to do it this way and and try to find the problems first outside of a system that way i'm not not digging around in it beautiful i love it i thought that was a really unique approach it's not something that i would have thought of now you are already on the windows desktop what's your confidence level that you've found all of the problems so far i've found some pretend malware i think i don't know oh yeah yeah lots of software that shouldn't be here are you calling asus's update check malware maybe oh lordy all right all right fair enough okay uh can you drop just me and austin together all right austin are you back i think i am back can you hear me fantastic i can hear you excellent okay so i think i missed a few things um it looks like steve is already in windows which is very impressive considering we've been what going for 20 minutes now maybe 20 minutes yeah that's phenomenal he's already fired up heaven benchmark and what is it what are these what are these documents that he's got in front of him if there's a judge whoa ooh we need to get a a review on that one wouldn't be cheating obviously they're allowed to use google so it can't be that bad right they are judge presents or not that is something that we laid out earlier on the stream using google is fair game there are quite a few things that steve has not found so far though like you can actually see when we were on the wider angle of his setup there one of the fans on his aio is actually not running although ironically that could end up being an advantage for him because as we discussed earlier the fans are actually installed in such a way that they're working against each other out of the box oh he's already removed the back fans okay i actually missed that oh wow that's fantastic oh so right now it looks like his system is actually kind of still separated so before they run the final benchmarks they need to have the system completely inside the case right oh 100 so steve just figured out that his networking's not working looks like he didn't catch everything in the bios hey can you drop us in with steve chase oh man this is so challenging chase you got to give me like a signal when i'm live so that i know that i can talk hey steve how's it going uh from the screen interesting he say what is it that's so interesting to you steve i are you like trying to sound like a robot or is that just discord elias does sound a little alien-like to me right now is that intentional uh i think it is like voice changers my airpods started working again after i put these headphones on over top of them so maybe you maybe i don't understand hear that i don't understand a word he's saying i can't take it seriously but hilarious i want him to keep talking well so how are you feeling right now so it seems like you've done a lot of work on the disassembly and you're sort of putting a lot of things together but you got into windows really quick yeah i think uh sorry i'm just running around the desk to plug usb into my computer that's on uh because there's no ethernet driver and oh there's nothing in the downloads folder and wireless doesn't work because i just changed my internet to a different service provider two days ago uh and we haven't fixed so do you actually have you have ethernet there though right i have an ethernet cable in front of me because i knew this would happen but i wasn't expecting drivers to not be installed so asus maximus 12 hero drivers is where we're going right now can i ask you what do you need uh ethernet for are you trying to download stuff or like what's what's the problem at the moment uh cinebench r15 i think they said has to be downloaded in the intro but uh that is a good question i should double check that okay linus the alien says correct i think it'd be really funny if everyone at home like i think we're the only ones who are hearing him like that in discord i think so and it just sounds hilarious so i'm curious you took a really bold approach going really quickly into this assembly do you think you found most if not all of your hardware issues or do you think you're still gonna have to track a few things down once you actually get the benchmarks up and running i found loose screws in the case i found the fans are all wrong direction but i don't know technically no one's told me that it needs to be built properly they just told me that it needs to be back in the case so i may or may or may not fix the fans you do have uh sort of benchmark time that you need to reach so if you can reach specific scores then however you do it is up to you yes that's good that's a that's a fair way to put it interesting all right any chance we can go switch over to jay i want to check in and see how jay's doing he looks uh sad what the is this all right can you guys hear me a little bit better now oh he's doing great okay fantastic yeah let's switch over to jay i want to check in with jay and find out how he's doing over here it's okay we're jay you can't see what steve's up to but i can tell you um with absolute certainty that your setup looks a lot tidier than his right now what are you working on right now uh so i found some more like i found some more fans that were unplugged i fixed those um i keep me stuck in a boot loop here i'm trying to figure out which drive has the os on it so there's the le200 that's installed and obviously it's uh it's not showing there's an os on here we've tried uefi and legacy mode i found the m.2 which appeared to be new package i don't i didn't expect that to be our os drive but that's what i'm trying now to see if i can get yeah there's no os on either of these drives so i'm starting to i'm starting to wonder how fishy you are with these drives or what's going on here potentially in our bios so jay can you actually walk us through what is the actual drive configuration so there are the two drives that you're working with but are they showing up in the bios or they're both they're both from the bios both in the bios and they both show up in both legacy and uefi mode but depending on you know with it being windows 10 and depending on the mode at which you know windows was installed could determine whether or not it will even attempt to boot but what's funny is i mean i'm seeing this just straight up no os installed where normally if i put a new drive in it doesn't have an os installed you would see no boot loader so there's clearly something going on here in the bios i'm just trying to figure out what it is unfortunately as much time have i spent asus bios i've not spent a lot of time troubleshooting that particular problem so this is a little bit of a greater area for me here okay well i uh i would say that it is probably i would say you are on the right track with respect to uefi and legacy mode um right but i will say this there is definitely an os that is definitely installed on one of the um one of the drives that was inside the the case when it arrived can you drop me in austin well there was yeah there was only one drive in there period so and that's what that's what i said which was just okay so steve is already at the point where he's downloading cinebench r20 it seems like that means he has figured out to enable his land within the bios he's figured out booting i am curious to see now i saw him fishing through the bios a little bit earlier i'm curious to see if he enabled hyper threading and if he figured out that two of his cpu cores are disabled because as soon as he runs cinebench he's going to figure that out real quick styles and how many courses in the cpu while jay is behind right now like he's not in windows yet which is about probably i'd say about a five-minute disadvantage at the moment jay can easily make up this time if steve starts kind of rushing ahead and running through these benchmarks because some of these benchmarks take a couple minutes to run each time if jay solves his problems before he gets to that stage steve could burn a lot of cycles running benchmarks only to realize that he's not getting the results he needs and having to go back to the troubleshooting drawing board it is smart though because i feel like he's come so far so quickly if it's me i'm going to start running benchmarks now and determine okay cool obviously there's still problems to sort of be sort of whack-a-mole down but how far am i actually off the pace right am i five seconds off 10 seconds off do i have half my cpu cores enabled i feel like a lot of those things are gonna become really quickly clear once you do stuff like cinebench now i'm curious do they know the scores that they're supposed to hit yet or are we going to hold that until later they do know the scores that they are supposed to hit so they've got the full challenge goals for those of you who are tuning in now the challenge is each steve and jay has gotten a computer that has been identically tampered with but in realistic ways like that a novice viewer might accidentally you know install wrong or whatever the case may be and in order to win they have to complete four challenges challenge number one get the computer to post both of them have gotten that far number two they have to boot to the operating system steve has already achieved that goal number three is they have to run through cinebench r15 r20 and blender three different scenarios and get our target scores unless they have tuned for performance correctly with their system they will not get the target scores finally they need to use the shortcut from the desktop to run metro exodus metro exodus and the challenge there is that the game is installed but the files are actually on a secondary drive and the drive letter has been removed so they're gonna have to troubleshoot that somewhere down the line now i feel like we should uh go over to jay and give him a little hint with his m.2 we need to get him into windows here key okay we've got a lifeline for you uh the m.2 that was originally installed in the system i would suggest taking a very close look at it there was no m.2 drive in this system i already checked all the slots wait there was no drive at all no there was only the 2.5 inch drive and then i already looked at all three i already took the covers off all three m.2s and there was no driving here well that would be helpful uh with what level of confidence chase who's kind of our producer today can you say that never mind you just go to the other channel and get out of here oh okay all right see you jake jesus i took the cover off and it was stuck to the cover i took it off and i went if you could see me right now i went all right why wasn't i opportunity to cut to commercial here we're gonna cut to commercial just a short 30 seconds i hate you oh fantastic but uh i've got i've got one more little bit of shilling that i got to do real quick before we jump right back into the tech support challenge guys we are offering free shipping on orders over 45 on lttstore.com right now the code is freeship ltx all lowercase so we've got our 40 ounce water bottles thanks austin you're doing such a great job over there you can be you can be vanna you can be vana oh it's oh it's so beautiful i love it uh so the code is freeship ltx and the reason for that code is that this weekend this is actually why we put together this special collab was supposed to be the weekend of ltx that's why we invited some of our og ltx supporters uh austin steve and jay to come participate in this with us this hopefully though is actually just the first of many because guys our events coordinator chase he's got to have a job and uh he certainly can't do any live events so it's gonna have to be it's all gonna have to be remote collab stuff so uh you know austin thank you for keeping chase employed because of course if not for you what would we do with them nothing there you go that's no pressure so the stream has to go really smoothly no more problems because obviously the job is on the line now yeah it would reflect very poorly on him so guys head over to lttstore.com uh check out our new uh plus-sized water bottles we've got our stealth hoodies we've got a ton of great shirt designs like the gpu shirt that i'm wearing right now we've got hats we've got all kinds of cool stuff and i believe we're shipping packs of stickers with orders right now as well so you can take advantage of both of those promos well all right i'll just say i'm personally really excited for my ltt underwear to show up right now um so oh yeah oh we can uh austin guys make sure you're subscribed to this is that's austin's secondary channel we actually did another collab that uh is going to be up on there probably what next week or something like that yeah yeah about thursday friday next week something like that i participated in austin's game show where i had to identify old hardware and i'm not going to spoil anything about the result but i will say that it's epic and you will not want to miss it so make sure you're subscribed to this is now austin right now steve's out ahead but do you think he's a shoe-in winner right now so we've already seen him run through in a bench it looks like he's going back into the bios and trying to determine it looks like yeah he's probably pretty close if not already figuring out that he has cpu cores missing i'm gonna be curious to see how far he can push it but jay has still not reached windows yet right it looks like he's still in the bios that's pretty rough now jay might have shot himself in the foot a little bit by not noticing that m.2 drive earlier on in his troubleshooting because if he had then he would have changed to uefi boot mode and it yeah and like those troubleshooting steps that he moved on to would have worked but now that's where you really run into trouble that's why it is so difficult to troubleshoot a system that has multiple problems because you can try one solution only to not realize that because of something else you haven't found yet it doesn't work but then you feel like you tried it but then when you fix the other thing you still do need to work on it so jay is still having a heck of a time getting into windows chase can you drop us in with steve i really want to do a check in with him and see if he's found all the problems in his bios configuration stevie i see you were poking around in your bios a little bit there what'd you find buddy i'm just making it better i don't know instead of screwing around trying to figure out if there's like software in the background or anything like that i decided to just overclock it to try and work around it really yeah that is an interesting approach and something that i really would not have expected you to do um okay so what was what's the problem you're trying to solve exactly help me out here i was about 200 points under the r15 score target and i'm pretty sure that was because i was using the igp instead of the dgpu but i was trying to boot so that's my suspicion and then uh i also had xmp off but that doesn't normally affect cinebench too much and it's timed competition so i figured i'd screw it i'll just throw a quick overclock on there and now we're getting a windows update so that's good that's rough so i will tell you xmp being disabled is one of the um is one of the things that we considered to be tampered with so you've got that one marked on really i've never seen an si ship things with axemp off before um wait you're joking right he's joking okay i was like wait wait what yeah yeah yeah no we're treating these like enthusiast grade systems steve okay these are enthusiast grade enthusiasts great windows updates that's what you're looking at look how fast that windows update was i should have disabled that i should we're disabling that right now it's a thing of beauty hey okay we gotta we gotta check in with we gotta check in with jay and chase keeps abandoning his post over there so we're gonna have to wait a minute here okay so did you find anything else in the bios that would seem to look like an obvious problem to you uh i just reset it so i'm hoping any obvious problems would be gone i was assuming maybe secure boot might be one of them something like that that is a very interesting approach one that i actually did not expect you to take um i should have expected you to take that because that's yeah now that i think about it probably the first thing i would do but here's your how's your cinebench score looking right there so i think we is that our 15 or our 20. our 15. 21.50 okay steve has completed his cinebench r15 run however jay has made up some ground here he is actually booted into the os now and we're going to go check in with him right away good luck i'm having so much fun those numbers are this is like an absolute freaking blast i can't believe this it's really crazy because like when you build a pc usually you're dealing with god when they come in here it's distracting like you're jumping oh sorry we're just commentating on your uh incredible i'm going to go ahead right now i can't even hear you i just want to see what the gpu temperatures are fine i'll put them back on all right when you're mid-thought you guys come in you know normally when you're building a computer it's like get out of my head i'm trying to think here so you're booted into windows and you went straight for heaven why did you choose to go straight for the heaven benchmark because there was a box in here labeled use this gpu first so i want to see what the temperatures and the boost clocks and all that stuff are first oh okay very interesting so you've taken like a literal approach to uh the instructions use this gpu first i know what these i know this card very well i know what it should score i know what it should boost to i know when the fan should kick on i know if anything's gonna be wrong with this card i'm gonna find it instantly so beautiful i always think that they're been tampering with that graphics card you think that because it was out of the case based on what i just saw with the m.2 what do you think austin jupiter that was pretty tough that was pretty tough i would i half expected someone to go in here and have like clean the thermal paste off and put it back together based on the temperatures i'm seeing that's not the case okay i will give you i'll give you a hint i i don't expect there to be anything wrong with the gpu it says use this gpu first because you never know bad stuff can have it happen in shipping so that's just the gpu we expected you to use first that's all right that was the one that we that was the one we tested the system with before we sent it to you all right well i can tell you right now the temperatures in the boost clocks and everything looked right okay but wonderful can you can phil can you write this down can you repeat what the scores are that we're supposed to have okay can you drop us back with uh steve please oh that's quite the r20 score very interesting so steve you just absolutely crushed your cinebench r20 target yes that that is accurate and it looks like you've actually been taking advantage of your time while benchmarks are running to tidy up the build a little bit i saw you uh moved one of the fans around why'd you do that well even though i thought this case couldn't have worse airflow the fan was pointed the wrong way uh so this is legitimately one of the worst linus is this a sponsor is this case a sponsor of the stream no not at all actually we just uh yeah we just reached out to them it's like it's the case that so it's you know computer fits in it speaking and they provided uh three of them for us to give away these systems and for you guys to troubleshoot them that's all where does the air come from um the air comes from uh let's see i feel like this is my kids asking me like where do babies come from well you see when daddy casey and mommy get together yeah i have a judge question for you what uh what am i just supposed to click run on unigen or do you want us to change settings or what uh i believe you're supposed to just click run okay yeah yes because we have the minimum score of 2025 you're supposed to reach in heaven that's what works okay yeah so cool steve i mean obviously it seems like because you're putting up some pretty solid numbers you can't be too far off but are you expecting any other gremlins do you feel like you have your bios sorted you feel like windows in a good place hardware like what do you actually still need to do to really button up the system because don't forget you actually do need to finish this system and have it completely put together that's the only way this is really going to count that's my biggest concern right now kevin is playing audio sorry i don't know if it's coming through but my biggest concern is is being able to assemble it efficiently and i don't know how i'm gonna do there but uh i saw there was tape on the other ram modules because this is working i'm gonna ignore that and i saw that the other ssd was packaged and i don't think linus has a shrink wrap machine so i'm gonna ignore that too so i think on a hardware side i'm probably good i was honestly expecting like a bunch of smashed pins in the motherboard but i didn't pull the cpu out to look uh so it seems to be i don't know i think i'm probably just gonna reassemble it after i get all the scores okay all right sounds good now uh can can i have just me and austin yeah it's time to to have a judge discussion here yeah so what's interesting to me is that steve's approach actually kind of steve's approach actually ends up kind of sidestepping one of the objectives of the troubleshooting challenge and and it's in it's in a way that i actually i like you know i thought i thought it was a really good move him basically setting up his system as a as a test bench um but what it means is that he didn't really need to solve a lot of the problems with respect to like case airflow configuration that we set out for him because if he completes all of his benchmarks before actually putting the computer in the case i mean he's technically completing all of the challenges even if it's in a really roundabout way but he but but he does have to put it together and jay jay is moving fast now he's been making up a lot of ground over there he's got his os up and running i believe he's already got his heaven benchmark score why don't we drop in on jay and have a look at how things are going over there jay are you ready for us this time is it okay for us to talk to you jay no it is not so you seem to have your heaven benchmark already is that correct no i have not benchmarked anything yet i am i just was checking temps and stuff for right now i'm trying to get network drivers so i can download uh r20 and r15 got it got it sounds good so i i don't i'm not clear on the rules if we're missing a driver here and we have an optical disk we're not allowed to use one of our laptops to download a driver you can use your laptop to download a driver i shall do that then yep dude do we bad if we made you use the optical disc yeah that'd be pretty easy that'd be pretty game over yeah we're much nicer people than that so just to give you an idea of where you're at steve already had does have some of his benchmark scores but his system is uh not very i i have a feeling he went for the reboot rebuild method i went right for the make sure it's built right first and fix all those little problems before even going to benchmarks i don't want to waste time on benchmarks except to redo anything so do you think you've caught every problem in the bios i don't think so but i wanted to at least get somewhere where i can start seeing numbers change got it you know that your graphics are working fine right now have you done any tests on your cpu yet not yet no okay all right uh just me and austin please what board is this do you um austin very interesting do you think jane knows that his cpu has no thermal compound on it oh that's a good question i didn't see he didn't take off the intake i haven't seen him take it off but he is he has taken a very thorough approach other than missing that m.2 drive he has taken a pretty thorough approach like looking at his temps to evaluate whether the system is working correctly he is going to find it really quickly yeah because it makes sense because obviously he was running a very gpu intensive benchmark which the graphics card is unmodified right the graphics card is going to work just fine no matter what really the problem he's going to run into is when you start firing things up because that's a good point if that cpu of that aio is installed on the cpu even without any thermal paste which makes me cringe to think about it still should do just enough to be able to get you inside of windows i'm surprised if he hasn't actually taken care of that that there were no problems whatsoever with heaven but i can believe it right i mean it's still doing something as obviously not as efficient as it could be that i think you're right though i think that's going to be a problem he's going to find very quickly like oh why are my temps at 100 degrees and i made like 1.2 gigahertz or whatever the case is once he actually really gets centimeter installed it looks like he still needs to actually re-enable his land drivers and the bios before he gets to that stage uh it depends so if he did the same thing as steve and just reset the bios that is a very solid and very legitimate shortcut to basically everything that we tampered with so for those tuning in now these systems have been tampered with on a hardware bios and actually software level and steve and jay are competing to see who can solve all the problems first so for hardware we had the ram installed wrong we had the front panel pins not connected properly we had the cpu 8-pin and 24-pin disconnected the gpu power cable was disconnected the ssd was disconnected the thermal paste was removed the back fan was unplugged and installed backwards i believe steve is the only one who has fixed that so far and the aio cooler was in a push push configuration so the fans on either side of it were actually working against each other as far as i can tell jay has not solved any of those cooling related problems yet but did solve all of the other little ones now i don't know if steve has figured out his front panel connectors yet yeah and it's really interesting because what we're seeing is a very different sort of approach from steve because he immediately went into overclocking he saw that his performance wasn't as high as he thought but it wasn't off by a huge degree i think it was like off by 100 or 200 points now that actually could be a really legitimate strategy for both of them because essentially if you maybe miss one of these issues maybe not at home but say you're in portuguese configuration overclock you can overclock your thermal phase problem just put your face through buyer but legitimately you could potentially miss out on a couple of these more minor issues and make up for it with overclocking who knows i think something like the aio is probably the best candidate for that but there are some real advantages no it looks like he's getting close to his heavens steve drop us in with steve yo stevie this is that score the steven nader we're having a look at your score over there bud it looks like you have exceeded your target score by 35 points which means you are you are clear as far as your heaven and cinebench benchmarks go are you ready for blender now not particularly but [Applause] [Laughter] but we'll see i actually don't need the i don't use the blender built-in benchmark so i'm going to be a bit behind steve i'm curious is your plan to run all of your benchmarks before you put the system together or what's your thought because obviously right now you have the advantage of open air are you just using this to kind of get a sense for where your performance is or because it seems like you're pretty much going through the entire suite right now yeah i'm gonna get it all done and then reassemble it because uh these scores are more than just the temperature difference so we're good there okay okay all right so here's the thing for the judges to deliberate on chase judges they're gonna debate whether it's allowed austin austin okay should we make him re-run even just one benchmark has a sanity check once he's got it reassembled i think we have to right i mean i think we have to he's got it all open there right now i mean he was just saying how you know he was a little bit concerned about the air flow in the case he's getting good numbers but they're not wildly off and especially because he's already pushing it with an overclock i feel like we need to see the completed numbers with everything quarterback i think we should even have pipelines on the uh on the case to be completely honest with you we absolutely should because when we ran these benchmarks ahead of time because we pre-ran all of this on an identical system actually on their systems right there we ran all three to make sure that all three of them could reach these bars that we set for them we had the systems closed up so if his passes outside the case but fails inside the case well then he's clearly missed something with that said i don't expect it to end up being a problem for him because he is going through and he is methodically solving all of the cooling problems that we laid out i mean one of the things that gamers nexus does really well is their case reviews and he's going through and he's applying a lot of what he knows about case cooling to even without seeing bad temperatures in his system just proactively fix the problems that we created so it looks like he's reinstalling the fans on his aio cooler in a push-pull configuration and he already turned around that back fan in the chassis and if he does catch all these problems especially with his overclock i think he will have no problem i think my main concern is is he going to have the time because jay is catching up well it looked like jay was catching up pretty quickly but he ends up losing a lot of time to have to rebuild and then re-run a benchmark and jay's already got his entire system ready but should we actually check mdp and see how he's doing it looks like he's having some uh uh some issues there let's check in with jay looks a little concerned maybe hitting me i'm in your head jay let's try downloading the wireless drivers then oh is it drivers interesting so jay can you tell us what the problem you're having right now is well i don't have any internet on this computer plugging wired in to either port doesn't matter putting the wireless in doesn't matter but i'm having a problem with the actual file from asus's website is corrupt so every time i try to extract it even my laptop it just keeps telling me that it can't extract the file so now i'm trying to the wireless wait have you confirmed that there's no driver whatsoever on windows like even like a default like nothing is working whatsoever the wizard couldn't even install a default and i'm not going to go hunting around where someone may have hidden a driver in this os i was trying to download a fresh one so have you confirmed that the network ports are actually enabled no i haven't that's why i'm trying to go to wireless have you confirmed that the wi-fi is enabled nope but considering the fact that i hey it's extracting the wireless so something's wrong with that wired one okay yeah yeah all right we'll go back they think i should go back to the bios i i didn't say anything i didn't say anything absolutely nothing we are fair and impartial you said so much more than you even know we're fair and impartial judges and uh i think the judges need to get out of this channel real quick here before we reveal more than we probably should so i will confess and if i if those guys uh go back and re-watch this this will be the first they're hearing of it and i don't plan to tell them directly i confess i was not aware of the issue where the network drivers were not provided to them um i was aware that we disabled the network adapters in the bios i would have said we should definitely have the network drivers in a folder on the desktop that was that was an unnecessary troubleshooting step because then they would have been able to know right away uh but with that said hey they both had the same curveball and steve got past it so another thing is there are about 20 other problems with this system right i think finding a driver is not exactly the most time consuming or difficult thing it's really making sure that the bios is actually properly configured it doesn't sound like jay did the trick of actually resetting the bios it looks like he's actually had to go through manually so my assumption is unless he really thoroughly went through things he may have a few of these issues like the lack of hyper threading or some of the cores being disabled that he didn't catch whereas it seems like steve has passed at this point and honestly is making really good progress putting that aio back together now where i am expect well not expecting but where i am anticipating that it's possible for steve to lose a bunch of ground to jay here is in the final challenge so once you're in windows you have to play metro exodus but for those just tuning in now the shortcut is on the desktop and we do specify that they must launch the game from the shortcut on the desktop so the shortcuts on the desktop but the actual game files are on a secondary drive installed in the system that has had its drive letter removed now steve is really focused on hardware and to my knowledge he actually does didn't have like a tech support job like before he got into you know hardcore hardware analysis whereas jay i would actually expect to find that problem a little bit faster yeah and that's a really tricky one too because obviously they know what they're looking for but it seems like obviously they had a lot of issues because i know jay specifically calling out in the bios that he did see both drives oh copy okay oh so then you were dead apparently i was right apparently i was right jay found that real quick styles uh i want to drop in with uh steve before we do that okay colton drop drop us in with steve because uh i want to chat about why his scores are not quite good enough here oh hey steve hey i have a question for you so i couldn't help noticing that your scores are a little short in uh blender there yes question for you yeah do you want these drawn with cuda or with the cpu uh you are running it the correct way no we're just not getting the correct result all right got it all right and i'm not really going to give you any hints because uh at risk of revealing too much you're we think you're a little out of head right now all right yep thanks all right we're gonna we're just gonna fly into a commercial break here okay go make your money yeah you bet steve all right i'm going to log in so is it running right now or how do i tell uh oh okay intel gamer days is back in 2020 with deals coming soon in multiple countries you got to keep an eye on intel social handles which are going to be linked below to save some cash on new tech from intel and their partners so the stream is sponsored by intel today uh they were supposed to be one of our presenting sponsors of ltx but hey uh global pandemic it was a little thing that um a huge thing that happened and uh you know sidelined a lot of live events that were supposed to take place this year so we decided to say you know hey intel uh you know how about we bring together some of the some of the best troubleshooting tech support minds in on youtube and do a little challenge and you guys can sponsor that instead and it'll be a lot of fun actually i'm having a blast so far how about you austin this has been really fun and you know can i just take a second and say how happy i am to be on this side of the competition this looks stressful this does not look fun at all no i know and like you look at how right now so he was he was getting out of head so far that i was looking at it going dang like he's a lock at this point and then he was one second short on his bmw blender run he was like what four seconds short on fishy cat so he is you know what i think i think it's because he doesn't have xmp enabled hey anthony does that sound like about right for the discrepancy yeah probably it's probably about right i think that's the reason he's not getting the benchmark scores he's he's expecting and so he knows about that problem like we i know that's the funny thing about it so he also said though that he doesn't typically use blender as a benchmark so i think that's why he wasn't so he specifically said oh i didn't bother enabling xmp because it doesn't affect cinebench but then he has this other benchmark that he's not familiar with and i did i mean i basically handed it to him i said well we treated these like enthusiast grade systems and so you know xmp being disabled was one of the things that we considered to be altered and then he didn't go enable it and now he ended up running you know what is what is this six minutes worth of benchmarks at scores that weren't good enough and now he's got to go back and do it again that is six minutes for jay to make up time that he wasted diagnosing his m.2 drive and that's why you can't take anything for granted in this challenge there are so many little things that can put you back especially once you get to the benchmarks because you're right you have six minutes for blender you have to obviously run through your senate bench runs which can be several minutes well i guess maybe not several minutes with these particular systems but there's a lot of time that you can very easily waste even by coming in something as simple as one second behind that's enough and we have to remember that system is still not looking particularly put together to me right now no no nor to me but remember too that jay still hasn't diagnosed his push push fan configuration problem or his rear fan which is pulling air in from the back also working against every other aspect of the airflow of of his system so why don't we drop in in jay because he looks a little bit stumped hold on but let's go ahead and finish this austin before we finish this uh do we know does jay have thermal paste yet or no i don't think he does that's gonna be the big tell right there but surely he's been in it for a while like it's obviously not completely overheating at the moment i wonder has he checked cpu temperatures or anything maybe we should check in and lightly probe now the funny thing about having no thermal paste is that if you're just idling if your cpu's not doing anything it probably won't be that obvious it might be a few degrees higher maybe five ten degrees higher but you're not going to look at it and go immediately oh holy smokes my cpu is a is a raging inferno inside my case it's not like that it's only once you actually hit it with some kind of load like modern processors are so power efficient at idle that even this imperfect contact of the the copper on the ihs is good enough to remove a little bit of heat um so i want to drop in on him and find out where he's at with his thermal troubleshooting because that's what i think he's running into right now people don't want me to give jay any more hints says anthony stop giving jay hints well it's not that we're giving him hints i mean it's not like steve didn't get hints we even gave steve the xmp hint he would have saved himself six minutes with that hint if he actually just listened not a guy people don't listen to us you know what's really interesting too steve did say that he doesn't normally use blender as a benchmark but anthony have you seen how steve's running blender yeah he's like cueing them up yeah it's the the new baby interesting so so he could be running blender so that's why he's gonna waste six minutes every time he runs this instead of being able to run just one of them so what we typically do here is we fire up the actual blender software load the benchmark projects and then you just press one button like you just press f12 and it'll just run that one project but he's running them all as a batch now that saves you time if it's running correctly yeah costs you a ton of time because you have to wait for this whole suite to run before you know you have a problem okay that's okay drop us in with jay drop us in with jay me it does be one other thing hey jay can you tell us a little something about what you're running up against you look uh perplexed i don't wanna you don't want it i don't wanna no so obviously i already found that some cpu cores were disabled i fixed that i also removed some cpu limits i don't know if you guys did that but i want to not only beat steve and i want to beat his scores while i'm at it spicy but the problem here is that even though i can see there were some drivers installed on this computer at some point hidden somewhere in asus z490 drivers but that file path location is no good obviously because i remapped the drives but i checked the drives and i didn't see them there so i'm just back to trying to install my own driver but i did find the network adapters were all disabled okay so i i think thanks for telling me that by the way i will tell you that well look i didn't tell you that but what i will tell you is that the systems are supposed to have the drivers on them okay well this one does not and even a device manager doesn't have to see it uh i don't know maybe what drivers are missing i'm curious hey um i i just you know talk talk to me talk to me talk to me jay no you started talking i was holding no no no i i i don't want to reveal too much you uh you told me i should be very careful yeah yeah so you can't say hey uh and then pause and then tell me you're waiting on me i can it's just rude [Laughter] so jay right now the main issue right now is you still don't have the network up right correct okay actually but you do have your cpu it seems like in the bios correctly showing up you've got your cores everything like that is there and then you said you weren't it's a 10 700 k it was set to six quarters i changed it back to all cores i went in there and enabled xmp i disabled a lot of the uh the power limitations that are in place got it as like i said i wanna i wanna i wanna keep it from turbo timering down during the r20 test yeah okay um so that sort of stuff i'm just trying to get online so i can download the freaking benchmark i see okay and that's where i'm that's where i'm pissed and that's where i know steve's obviously ahead if he's already got some of those scores all right okay steve real quick here actually i think the numbers i see some numbers over there that's very interesting very interesting why hello steve hello i couldn't help noticing you have some uh slightly better uh blender numbers over there yeah i think that passes yeah it looks uh looks pretty good what did you change there steve uh i'm not sure oh i overclocked the gpu you okay overclocked the gpu what a novel solution did you install two gpus i'm looking at it if i have time when i reassemble i might there's enough power overhead how interesting where would the second gpu have come from by chance linus he sent it yeah yeah we sent it just in case they had like something get damaged in shipping but i appreciate you i appreciate you looking for that though yeah that was not how we had intended for it to be used but i guess there's nothing we can really do about it at this point unless i want to start walking to north carolina you're not going to fly right now yeah no i'm certainly not going to do that i won't get there in time that's for sure [Laughter] i'll stop you you play a lot of badminton i don't know you might be able to do it i believe in you so how are you feeling about your chances right now uh okay other than the reassembly because i hate actually putting stuff in cases so i'm gonna austin when i actually discussed something um yeah i already know what you're gonna say yeah so we feel pretty strongly that since jay is running his benchmarks in the system um and we ran all the ahead of time benchmarks in the system with the panel closed you should run at least a couple uh to make sure that it still performs the way you were expecting when it is actually assembled yeah that's fine i can prove my work okay i mean i'm not too fast i'm not gonna be that teacher you know i'm not trying to be that teacher you know you didn't carry the you didn't show carrying the one over here you get zero you know i don't want to be that guy but in the interest of a fair competition uh you know i just want to make sure everyone's on a level playing field here and uh well steve actually at this point so you've already run blender and you've gotten at least outside the case good scores you've run heaven send a bench so at this point all of the actual raw benchmarks at least outside the case you feel good about your numbers right now right uh yeah they're pretty good i think i think we're fine there uh it's not about who gets the biggest number it's about who gets the first number yeah that's right i mean biggest number is not bad either though you know i mean bigger is better but faster is also better yeah faster it's also better and i'm gonna go for both go for you know you're not the first person to say that to me today i won't be the last can we have just the judges okay oh maybe we should go check in on jay i see some things happening tom i said hi they both seem to have settled into uh quite a groove at this point interesting who are we with chase okay so austin it's just you and me right now okay i don't really understand what jay's doing at the moment to be honest with you why is he running heaven again he already ran it he's confirmed that his graphics card at the very least he was seeing like decent temperatures and whatnot is he just running that while he tries to figure out i don't understand what he's so it seems like he's really having a problem getting online but if he's already reset and turned on his nics inside the bios and it seems like he was able to download some kind of driver right yeah it looks like he's very frustrated right now um interesting i actually don't know i mean looking through what we've got on this side i don't actually know what his problem might be if he's got anything already up and running yeah he's got it enabled um now what's curious to me is why he would want to download his network drivers from the asus site it's an intel driver so he said that the asus downloader was corrupt but then why wouldn't he just jump on intel's site uh they have the box for the motherboard or they could look up the specs online googling was explicitly allowed so he could just jump onto intel site grab a land driver package install that shiz and he'd be off to the races it's easy for us to say that it's easy for us to say that up here looking on high right i mean once you're in the heat of the moment once you're stressed once you're frustrated once you know that i mean he's pretty much for the entire competition been behind that he's really got ground to make up it's easy for your decision-making skills to not quite be on point and it seems like here you can uh it's just it's tough to see but i think you have to really be sort of in the mindset of like okay take this one step at a time and he's obviously made a ton of progress but i'm looking over here at steve right now his system's coming together quick he we know he has the correct numbers on all of his benchmarks really if he gets this thing put together and he's able to figure out how to launch metro this might be over now hold on a second barnacles is in the chat uh apparently he's got 10 bucks riding on steve for this competition that's looking pretty good right now i'm not gonna lie that is some that is some nerdy that is some nerdy gambling right there that is that is interesting so one uh someone in the chat uh where where are you at i saw someone in the uh youtube chat saying like steve's going crazy because the heaven benchmark is stuttering and yeah you can actually see it can you see it stuttering there sometimes so my uh i haven't actually run heaven in a while but if i recall correctly it reports gpu clocks and gpu temperatures but i don't believe there's an overlay with cpu temps so his cpu is probably thermal throttled to heck and back that's it and it probably he didn't catch it on the first run because the system was cold nothing had come up yet but now the system's been on for i mean probably an hour at this point and so whatever sort of limitations that he was able to kind of work inside with the thermal paste i think is really catching up uh this is this is looking very rough he hasn't you're right he has not checked well i guess he wouldn't be able to right because on the system right now he has no internet and he has no way of downloading any kind of cpu temperature monitor so to him he looks maybe if he opens up task manager and checks the the cpu speed yep that's a tough one that's a real tough one and like you said it's easy for us sitting here to say oh well he overlooked this simple thing but when you're rushing is when you make mistakes and honestly i think that's one of the things that is a real takeaway from this challenge is that even very very experienced tech people can make simple mistakes like taking a shield off of an m.2 slot seeing there's nothing installed in the in the actual slot not realizing that it wasn't installed correctly and it's actually stuck to the thermal pad that's what happened with jay that was that was rough that i feel like it was hard to watch any of us would have fallen for that you pick it up go up there's no drive you don't even think twice that would be stuck to the thing you're holding like that's so crazy like oh all right let's uh let's drop in on jay real quick here and see how he's doing all right so their score was 20 25 our score is 2037 so benchmark's done or uh heaven's done okay so jay has that one out of the way union heaven benchmark what are you moving on to next correct drivers drivers i was like i was like i cannot let this competition go without he's posting one score okay so uh you're trying to download the drivers from asus's website is that right yeah but i i think i'm past that problem now oh okay okay so you're ready to install your laptop the the problem was pepcak don't worry oh i see okay all right okay so the good news is that most of the benchmarks that you have to run only take a total of about you know less than 10 minutes to get through so that's if assuming you've got everything else solved and you don't have any issues with your benchmarks that's the farthest behind that you could possibly be at this point and there is still a significant pitfall waiting for steve that you have already solved okay well that's good to know all right let's jump back over to steve can can we steve at this point do you feel like you're are you in the home stretch now is this just reassembly and victory lap you know install a second gpu and good to go in theory yes in practice i don't know how far jay is i will say you're a helmet you're ahead but he is also making up a lot of ground uh yeah he does still have some significant things to solve but um i think how much thermal pace do you have on that thing yeah what the gamers is that the gamer's nexus you can't have too much thermal paste approach right there that i'm seeing yeah and i'm glad i did it because i had really bad contact with the cooler oh everything it was super bad your temperatures or your your cpu clock speed like obviously what actually what kind of overclocking did you draw a k on there for unlocked i might have i might have done that that's worth at least 100 megahertz right there i think so i think so yeah i did uh i forget i think i just did a 5.1 all core and then um and then i think i did uh 1.38 volts with llc at level 4. i'm not sure okay okay you were you were actually pretty comfortably above the minimum spore right yeah yeah for cinebench definitely nice so what are you worried about right now so it seems like the case is mostly assembled what do you actually have left on your to-do list before you're ready to call it this this stupid blank asus cover is what i have left right now that's it once and and then i can just get the gpu in there in theory if it'll clear but i don't know i think i have it on backwards or something we'll see okay all right well you uh you you uh go ahead you do that then uh we're gonna we're gonna deliberate the judges are gonna deliberate a little bit right now we're just gonna have a little chatty chat over what okay he doesn't get to know he doesn't get to know he's not on the inside you know yeah just so you know austin no no pressure but we've got uh 48 000 people watching right now wow this is actually one of the biggest streams we have ever done uh thank you guys very much for your support everyone that's watching of course thank you to intel for sponsoring this event which is sort of in lieu of ltx this weekend just kind of getting together with some of our og ltx supporter bros out there and putting on this little tech support challenge uh i think at this point this is enough of a success that i'm just going to tease the next event is that is that cool chase yeah how far out is it a couple months out so austin austin yes i think there is a solid chance that you're going to want to be in on this uh the next event that we're going to be doing as part of our our calendar this year of ltx replacement events to keep chase employed is um tech purdy we and this is going to be a much bigger one we're talking multiple rounds probably as many as a dozen plus tech youtubers participating all kinds of incredible categories i don't want to give away too much but you know some of the categories are things like web 1.0 um you know you know who said it uh so you know famous uh tech quotes from tech visionaries um there's gonna be some it's gonna be a good mix it's gonna be a really great mix actually we've got all our categories figured out we just need to get some of the questions fleshed out but it's going to be this fantastic mix of like hardcore technology you know like what the lga whatever socket was whatever in whatever year like there's going to be some of that stuff but then more general just having been plugged into the tech verse for a very long time uh you know more awareness type knowledge as well so what we think is that no matter who participates there's going to be categories that are going to absolutely crush them and categories where they're gonna slay and it's gonna be super competitive i'm like very very excited and the the prize for this one was a surprise so for the viewers at home jay and steve are competing for a thousand us dollars personally and 3 000 to the charity of their choice uh just whoever wins takes it all and for tech pretty we are actually going to have multiple rounds we're going to have a final winner round where it's going to be a much bigger prize pot so that sounds so much fun it's also going to be sponsored by intel right intel's behind that one oh no we're not actually sure about that yet but i mean based on how great this is going you just volunteered them for it so i'm sure they're fine i'm sure they're not going to want to miss it but it's uh it's going to be freaking awesome we'll find the prize money somehow i mean it it doesn't matter at a certain point we just want to make sure everyone has a really great time we get some you know really good charitable donations i want people fighting hard though so that's why i'm making sure there's some personal prize money as well i want a no-holds-barred cage match that's what i want for it when you describe a game like that what i'm hearing is chase's job sounds very safe because that sounds like a lot of work to try to put that together we're gonna we're gonna have like a set i'm going to be like walking around on it so we're going to we're going to bring the the live event to it to the greatest degree that we can colton's giving me a real hard time because i just volunteered intel to spot to the thing yes yeah he said he says we're figuring out we're figuring it out it's okay sponsors love to be volunteered ahead of when they actually even know what the concept is i'm sure they'll be totally fine with that yeah for sure oh man we've already got chosen impala and the youtube chat is like i'm not a tech youtuber but i want to participate that would be an amazing round doing like a community edition or like the each each tech youtuber who participates could like find a member of their community that they want to bring in as like a competitor and they could be like a team challenge or something like that does that sound cool chase he says we'll figure out the details hey everyone's getting really upset because you're volunteering all this work on stream and everyone's like oh well linus said it and they're like oh my god now i have to actually do this that's basically how i roll though oh let's drop in on jay let's drop it on jay i saw a blue screen oh no that was just a windows update screen well steve had to contend with that too okay drop us in on jay would you chase i'm having something for the turbo timer what hey i saw you had a little windows update uh hiccup there how's how things going otherwise no i didn't have a windows update i was down installing like three things at the same time gotcha gotcha so are you all network drivered out here we're all working now i'm just going in here and making sure that all my cpu settings are as i want them before i do these cpu benchmarks okay dude did you have a crash or what was that what was that flash or that was just a restart oh i had there was yeah there were some programs open when i was shutting down got it got it so so pretty much it once you get your cpu settings all confirmed you're ready to start running cpu benchmarks yeah i'll be ready to run those benchmarks and i'll be done because i've already done we already did exodus we already did heaven okay beat the benchmark so our base so i guess that one's good with one note from the judges you do need to have your side panel on so the original part number one yeah okay perfect okay okay yep nice all right can we drop in with steve please all right hey steve yeah what's up how's it going there you are basically you created a lot of extra work for yourself but you also ended up dodging a lot of our pitfalls by essentially disassembling the computer and then just building a computer instead of trying to troubleshoot a computer how do you feel about that approach now that you're in the kind of the home stretch here for a competition i don't know i i still feel better about doing it this way because i guess ultimately we're shipping it to someone and i'll clean it up after the competition's done too but i just like to know exactly how it was built i haven't done it in a long time but i i a very long time ago for extra money did some uh you know basic it stuff like i'm sure a lot of us did and uh i i always found yeah just when i needed money to start gn that's what i did before dell and so i always learned it was faster to completely do it over than try and fix someone else's mess wow you know what i actually didn't know that part of your history i had actually said earlier on the stream that i thought jay probably had more experience doing just random tech support for people than you did but it turns out you actually had some of that as well i mean i guess i should have assumed because of course we all do like i used to troll forums before and i would actually fix systems for people i even like went to people's houses it was looking back at it like as a teenager the amount of interaction that i had with strangers online was sort of not what i would because it was my kids but definitely not okay yeah but we all we all i guess we all did it right because it was a it was a good way to make some money right do you think people tell stories now like oh that that linus kid he came to my house and fixed my computer uh i did see a tweet a little while ago from someone who claims to go to my high school they said that i was a little douchebag it seems like a credible source i you know i followed them that system's looking pretty done what what do you have left from here can you explain the tape on the back of the uh cpu socket there is that just to hold your back plate in place yeah i think that was the best part of my strategy uh interesting that way yeah i i hate dealing with back plates they take forever so it saved me a couple minutes i think huh okay well how about that your kate hey look i'd say it's a b at best right now but uh you're still working on it you know a b is very generous yeah well look i did say at best didn't i look i got to get my shots in here because you were giving me a real hard time about how this system was built at the beginning so yeah it's not much better i'll give you that yeah you know it's not about finishing the system with a perfect build and then that's where all you do is just get this thing to work if that side panel fits if you get that benchmark score you open up metro you are set now yeah yeah i gotta do metro i was pretty impressed by how quickly you spotted our push push fan configuration on the front radiator what was your first clue there the fans were facing the wrong way that was my first clue and then i looked at the other one i was like ah okay yeah that seems about right i mean that would do it i think i think honestly it's a little easier to troubleshoot uh if i know there's sabotage in place i might not have found that with a customer system we actually look at this oh interesting what's that does that just like a new cpu detected because you reinstalled it or what are we looking at here what's going on here yeah i think it's a new cpu but we'll find out um we'll find this thing all right uh the i got to do a quick sponsor break here do it can make that cheddar and we gotta thank intel for being such a good sport about sponsoring this event they were supposed to be a sponsor for ltx this year this is the weekend ltx was supposed to be and instead they stepped up and allowed us to put this fun collab together uh intel's core i9 10900k desktop processors feature 10 cores 20 threads and a whole lot of performance in both gaming and productivity you can grab your own today at the link in the video description and you know just aside from you know hey they make fast cpus and you should go buy them just thanks to the intel team for being super cool guys and helping us out with this because this was a ton of work for us to put together it kept chase in a job which is absolutely fantastic you know there you go chase you have intel to thank for your employment at this point and honestly i'm having the most fun that i've had on stream like in at least months maybe years this has been an absolute freaking blast uh you know thanks to intel we've got 50 000 people watching i haven't actually told either of the contestants how many people are tuned into this right now but obviously this is something the community loves to see so i'm going to i'm doing it again i'm volunteering intel to sponsor more stuff without actually checking with them but i'm sure they're going to absolutely love this this has been just a ton of fun and just good good wholesome good wholesome entertainment you know what else is wholesome lttstore.com ladies and gentlemen if you go over to lttstore.com we've got free shipping on orders over 45 only during this stream and based on how quickly jay and steve are progressing at this point i would say it's likely that this stream will not be going for much longer the code is freeship ltx orders over 45 dollars check out our new 40 40-ounce water bottles we've got all sizes in stock head over there right now get your order in and let's go ahead and drop in on why is jay running heaven again can we ask jay why he's running heaven wait no i wanted to oh we got no we got to check in with steve steve's the higher price get us in with steve what's going on over here steve my boy what are you doing accessing the d drive wait you mean you only have one hard drive showing up yeah which i kind of suspected but i didn't check when it was on the bench to see if it was actually true um interesting all right see ya see you later see ya because we were like steve's uh steve's doing a thing right now and uh looks like you're doing a thing too here jay uh what what you up to you're running in heaven again why are you running i'm running because production popped in and apparently i don't know we should have side panels on or something so i went ahead and just did it again okay because i don't know what the rules are exactly okay all right are you gonna run any other benchmarks at some point the uh the chat the chat is like hey you know jay's got this uh jay's got a love affair with heaven going on over there seven minutes because it's one it's one it's one that can run while i'm doing other things so that's true what else are we working on though no i think i think it's done so i i want to run the cpu benchmarks next obviously but i'm just getting heavy out of the way because it works exodus counts because i don't need a side panel to show that we can remap a net a system drive yeah yeah yeah that's a pretty simple problem to solve hey well yeah that one's pretty obvious because the little icon on the desktop tells you that hey this is a shortcut to nowhere so yeah huh how about that so you say that's very obvious do you i feel like that one was obvious yes considering it's already been checked off i'll say we were right i don't know i just you know i just i felt like uh yeah okay yeah i just i feel like i feel like that's something that a a person that is not very uh experienced with computers might put a new drive in and then it maps to a new letter and they're freaking out because now their icons are working suddenly so i feel like that's that's a problem that could throw people off yeah i can see how like the wealth of experience you have like doing troubleshooting before you became a tech youtuber would probably lead you to feel like that's a very simple problem to solve yeah that white icon with the black arrow tells me linked to nowhere so i just immediately dismanagement remap it what letter was it looking for look at the properties named it that and it was fantastic all right i think the judges need to uh judges need to chat a little bit here all right i wish jay would run a benchmark other than heaven because if he ran anything other than heaven he'd realize he doesn't have any thermal paste on his cpu with that said i absolutely love the unintentional smack talk about how easy it is to solve that problem while steve is ripping the panels off of his computer trying to figure out why he doesn't have metro exodus files i was trying so hard not to laugh looking at the split screen of jay like obviously who doesn't know this and he's like rip rip there's something in here oh hilarious by the way actually just in this just in uh apparently intel's watching and they are officially in for the tech trivia challenge see it works that that my friends is how you strong arm a sponsor right there that's a free tech tip publicly calling them out you know i've got to say though i'm really happy that we're doing this and that you're planning more of these because like ltx is so much fun to do in person and this is pretty much the next best thing right because honestly i kind of enjoy this a little bit more in some ways because like i woke up this morning i get to chill in the office instead of having to run around and sign a thousand nipples or whatever people are throwing in front of you i don't do that i i definitely would never do that i don't know what you're talking about ask other people to sign my nipples is what i go to ltx for but this is really fun hold on a second steve just had a blue screen steve just had a blue screen ladies and gentlemen oh he's not in the clear yet okay i need to drop in on steve get me uh get me on steve's feed the suspense yeah steve what happened what happened buddy unstable overclock oh you flew too close to the sun my friend i didn't set the llc okay so you think setting your load line calibration is going to fix it yes i think so now did you use xmp or did you manually dial your ram into 3200 megahertz uh xmp you did use xmp so you did end up enabling that and was that what pushed you over the edge in blender or did you think it was something else in terms of the crash uh in terms of the performance that you uh you know because you have your original performance yeah oh blender uh all i did earlier was overclock the gpu by 100 megahertz so i think that probably fixed the performance it was really i mean it was like it was like error because it was 51 instead of 50. so instead of just rerunning it to try and fix it i decided to just make sure i got it so you found a solution but the solution we expected was xmp that was the hint we were trying to give you oh no that was already doesn't care oh it was already on okay so you're good oh very interesting so i don't know if you uh know this in fact you shouldn't know this because you shouldn't be tuned into the stream but you currently have 51 500 people watching you troubleshoot that computer how do you feel about that do you feel the pressure well you know it's it it would have been it would have been extremely impressive about two days ago and then dr disrespect did 500 10xed it so yes that is a lot of people uh so we got a score up we got cinebench r15 verified nice you're well clear of the target score for cinebench so we've got you down for that one so i would say as long as you can run i would say as long as you can run one more of your if you can run one of your blender benchmarks and you can hit the same score as before i think we can call that validated with the panels on yeah oh no that's the sabotaged one what what's that actually didn't sabotage anything about uh blender i didn't trust it so i just downloaded a new one did you reinstall blender yeah interesting interesting wow all right let's drop the judges together here if we can oh austin austin yeah can you can you imagine it these guys not trusting me i don't know why i mean you were a beacon of trustworthiness and i have no reason why you would ever do something solo is stooping to cheating in a challenge but this is an assessment of my character how honest and accurate i thank you thank you this is actually getting really close though man so like they both essentially have one huge bottleneck holding them back yeah so steve needs to figure out unless i know he was playing around with the drive unless he was able to figure that out he still needs to sort out renaming that drive letter i didn't see him launch metro yet i don't think so i think that's sort of the next thing which be fair if he fixes it it is a quick fix whereas jay is i don't i mean he's restarting again i don't know he still doesn't have thermal paste right he's i don't think he has thermal paste yet if he figures that out she's pretty much in the clear like he's very still got to run a lot of benchmarks yeah like he's still got so much stuff to run he's got heaven but he still has to run six minutes worth of blender and then probably a solid like four minutes worth of cinebench so he's got 10 minutes of benchmarking still to do once he figures out why his cpu is not performing properly and that's like not a quick fix either right he's got to take that aio off he's got to put on thermal pace and that's assuming he even realizes that's the problem he may do more troubleshooting it seems like he seems confident in his hardware and he's really like sort of living in that bios but he could be overlooking a huge issue right now why don't we drop in and ask him if he's got all his hardware sorted out and just uh let's not reveal too much let's not reveal too much the chat's going to flip if we reveal dude do we want to look at steve real quick sure what's he got going on here what's uh what's that that's an error what's going on it's because i it's because i also have forward it last time wait a minute wait what's that what's that you got there what what's wrong oh interesting so you uh so you found the metro exodus files did you yeah uh that was a pretty clever one i went into disk management and set the drive letter i was really worried if that wasn't the issue then i don't i probably wouldn't have figured it out well steve what do you have left at this point yeah what's left that's it i re-ran blender we got 5-0 for the bmw and uh we ran r15 and now we're in the menu do we have a winner hold on we haven't have a look at your system can we have a little system i want to see i want to see how put together this thing is before we before we declare any kind of victory here i think we owe it to the 52 000 viewers out there to make sure that this is all legit before we call it sure okay okay that looks looks like a side panel to me yeah okay that looks like all competition approved hardware i appreciate you put all four screws on you know for extra safety oh hey very funny very funny dropping things what a what a clever joke you should be a comedy writer you should do roasts you should work in comedy um that looks pretty good okay so he's got the cpu temps those look pretty those look like pretty healthy temps he's got some what are all those cables running over top of your gpu i'm just i'm curious because this is this the gamer's nexus approach to cable management what is that yeah pretty much i mean i don't think there's a line item in the challenge goal for beautiful cable management no there really isn't i just you know i had higher expectations that's all i don't know why i don't know i shouldn't they were they were misplaced they were they were very misplaced if that's how he cable manages his hair i shouldn't expect any different from the cables that's true wait do you have your rear case fan on or no is that spinning there it goes these guys spends a minute talking about the poor airflow of this case also steve it doesn't plug in the one fan doesn't plug in the one pen with access to fresh air it couldn't get any worse anyway well i mean i don't know why anything you haven't done right now i am why don't you game for a little bit we're just going to check in with jay and see how he's doing why don't you just enjoy some time where you actually get to play video games i'll try to remember how yeah it's it's a real it's a privilege we all forget we all forget it happens to the best of us can you drop us in with j chase ryan what's the cpu score going to be jay can you tell us what you're what you're up against right now sucker is running warm i'm starting to think something might be up with these fans what your discord right yeah okay yeah can you hear me oh yeah we can hear you yes yeah but the score where's the score the score 2010. i beat the score so this okay we beat the score i'll come back to figure out why the temps might have been high later but we've got our our r15 score 2024. so you just have high temperatures interesting high temperatures but i have a feeling i haven't checked the fans on these it's a push pull but i feel like we could have them being opposing directions or the front fans are because i mean i can see that these fans inside the case right now are blowing frontward not backward so have you diagnosed anything else with respect to cpu thermals uh no literally just started this was our first full cpu run after we went back and enabled hyper threading because i thought i did but i didn't okay well i have some i have some bad news for you unfortunately because it looks like steve might have just reached his last hurdle here and cleared it he has metro exodus running right now which was uh that was the reason we were kind of egging you on about the the simple fix for the drive remapping steve actually did end up struggling with that one for a while um oh yeah that was a simple fix steve found the missing thermal compound on the cpu very early on and because he disassembled it the funny part is we're not actually throttling it actually works [Laughter] that is very surprising to me uh the fans are also installed in a push push configuration yeah that's what i said i can see the fans in the inside right now are pushing towards the front of the case and the ones on the front are facing this way but i want to see what this this r20 score is right now too because i even went in and removed all the thermal limits on the cpu like i raised it above where it's going to throttle but if this score matches then hey i'll i'll be the guy that matched steve scored with no thermal pace so tell me and push push did you launch metro exodus at any point yeah we it was the very first thing we did it was before we did heaven okay so you have actually got one that was the first thing we did actually have you done blender at all oh no we have no blender two three four five six so you got six of our ten challenges complete yeah you got a 48 80 in r20 we got a 48 45 with no thermal paste no thermal paste all right so you got six out of ten can we drop everyone in the same chat now because i think we're ready to call it it was the drivers that really screwed me we apparently broke 60 000 live viewers by the way uh are we are we chat together now all right i think we've got everybody in here now we've got uh apparently 55 000 viewers at the moment and we were as high as 60 at one point according to anthony oh if you're counting twitch and floatplane that's right uh so i just want to thank ever before we before we you know do the denim all here i want to thank everyone for participating uh this was absolutely a ton of fun at least for me and austin and i think for the viewers at home um i was really impressed by the completely different approaches that you guys both took to troubleshooting and i just wanted to ask you guys a couple of questions about what the process was like right after this sponsor break throw me out throw me on the throwing on the sponsor so the stream today was brought to you guys by intel they have confirmed they're going to be in for the upcoming stream which jay and steve don't know about yet but i'm sure they're going to want in on uh in intel gamer days is back in 2020 with deals coming soon in multiple countries keep an eye on intel's social handles linked below to save some cash on new tech from intel and their partners all right drop us back in the in the four-way split here and let's let's chat i want to start with steve steve what do you think was the ace up your sleeve for this challenge today did you took it out of the box early no i think uh i think it was going to what i'm familiar with which is a bench setup because i i can't work in cases anymore it's like it's too hard for me so uh instead of how i kept trying to i don't know as a good example that m.2 drive that was like really sneaky the only reason i saw it is because i came down here to plug something in and i saw the pins weren't in a slot and right i don't know that would have taken me forever to notice if it were in a case that ended up screwing jay over pretty hard because you know what's funny about that is i i even called it out to phil i was like these lower m.2 screws are loose and i took it out and i know and i know steve can't see me but i took it out and i went there's no drive in there and i put it right back down yeah he was like holding it he was holding the drive stuck to the heatsink and going to drive in there no problem i even went as far as to install the one that was brand new thinking maybe they re-wrapped it which by the way steve you do not need a machine for you can just do it with uh with a heat gun and some and some just some of the wrap you can just buy it on amazon so for next time you were in the middle of you were in the middle of you know a tech support challenge i didn't want to disrupt you um steve what was the biggest challenge for you i think the the i was i was sweating like crazy when i was reassembling it at the end because i was like man it's all good but i don't know if jay's running benchmarks right now it might not matter that i got my benchmarks so that was for sure the most uh wait did you did you run benchmarks on the desk yeah you run them with the panel closed we made them re-run them okay that's what i was going to say i was like because we were like we had to have the hand panels on yeah ahead of time because steve steve kind of worked around a lot of what we laid out for you guys by taking the system apart he effectively uh worked around a lot of the assembly errors and he actually had a really great idea that you know i'd love to say i i'd love to think that i would think of immediately but if i'm being honest in the heat of the moment i might miss it he thought to just reset the bios immediately rather than i'm dealing with dinking around oh oh great okay all right what was that jay i i even said that to phil i said you know what my my first thought here is just clear cmos and start from there but then i didn't know if maybe there was some small overclocks involved in this to match the scores so i mean if i if i had gone to a clear cmos it would have i had i went into bios like what 10 times and that would have saved me quite a few minutes there and then it would have saved me the issue i was dealing with obviously with um the the network being disabled which i didn't even think about so i probably lost 20 minutes to that driver alone would you guys like to hear the summary of everything that was broken i'd like to know what i missed i guess besides those front fans okay so for hardware the ram was in the wrong slot single channel you guys both caught that basically immediately front panel pins were not plugged correctly into the easy connector yeah saw that caught that yup the cpu8 pin the 24 pin and the gpu on the power supply side were all either loose or disconnected yeah right one one of ours was disconnected the m.2 ssd was disconnected but still in the slot which was a real pitfall for jay because he missed it yeah not seeing it when he lifted up the heatsink how much time do you think i spent trying to figure out how to where the os was too long honestly i would have jumped in earlier on that one to give you a hint because i could totally tell you were struggling but we were having some av issues with austin at the time and so i wasn't paying as close attention as i should have been um the cpu thermal paste was removed now steve caught that because he disassembled his whole computer before he started mm-hmm you know it's you know what's funny is is i was so i was so concerned with there being tampering of the gpu with the way it was labeled use this one first i even said that that thermal paste would probably have been removed if they were tampered that's why i went right to heaven to check thermals on the gpu and once i saw that was fine i was like oh okay and then i had moved on from thermal paste at that point otherwise i would have caught it but i do want to point out that my scores are correct with no thermal paste that's true steve that happened yeah we saw it yeah i mean it makes sense the benchmarks are really short that's why i wasn't too worried about if i were behind my backup plan was to not connect half the fans or put them back in because i knew the benches are short enough it's okay but i was expecting the gpu to have like an incorrect bios on it or something like that so i opened the secondary one yeah well speaking of the bios there were a bunch of issues with it so not only was the cpu alt fan monitoring enabled which i believe you guys both caught pretty early right or i guess i guess i yeah i just went i basically did a 360 sweep around the motherboard to find everything that was disconnected so boot option one was disabled legacy boot was enabled both the intel and the marvel lan was disabled which i think jay you spent a little time trying to sort that one out i did and you know what's you know what's funny is even after i turned them back on it still was not working for a solid what 10 minutes fill at least that's rough yeah so when you think about it this was actually i couldn't even i couldn't even get my benchmark this was a lot closer than it looked because if it wasn't for the m.2 snafu and the network driver issue jay could have actually been out ahead yeah oh actually there's a cpu thermal paste as well i mean it was obvious i was in the os first because i didn't tear it out of the system yeah you were way ahead getting into the os like it was looking pretty one-sided but i think what we ran into here today is like i think you guys can all probably agree with this the most troubling thing the most horrendous things to troubleshoot are the ones where there's two things wrong you know when you're not getting a display output because you've got bad ram and a bad gpu you know where you swap out one you go okay well it's not that you put it back in right and so having over a dozen things wrong with these systems made it extremely challenging to narrow things down and it's really easy to blitz past something and then get hung up on it later like you did jay when finally you got to your cpu benchmarks and you were like holy smokes my cpu is running super hot and that's why i came in and i was like hey jay i see you're running heaven again uh do you want to run anything else at some point here because i think you would have noticed what's funny too is i didn't even look at the the the horus cooler on there which gives you you know at least a socket temp or something showing and it wasn't until i looked at the score and i was like okay look to the left and i saw 99 i'm like oh well i'm glad i went in and set that limit like much higher than the factory 105 and not only did i do that i removed the turbo timer and i let it pull all the wattage at once so literally this cpu should not have like really done a good job it should have literally melted itself but that's probably the only reason why the scores even mattered is because i removed the limits well i think it's time for us to award prizes uh colton do you want to bring those in for me please and oh they've been shipped oh do we have like a sounds to me like this was a predetermined winner you guys have the prizes hey guys i only have one maybe jay's right that's right oh i see how we did this oh that's clever good job chase so apparently we shipped both trophies to both of them and then they just only get to open up the one they actually earned wait what happens to the other trophies [Applause] linus you want to you want to auction the extra off or something for like a charity i'd be you know what if you want to do 30 uh i'll get a promotional tweet and i'll get like i'm gonna drink out of this i love it i didn't earn it can you still have your trophy though you'll treasure it always right oh this is second place it's not silver it's gold hey look everyone's a winner second last place but it's gold not silver wait no that's the first place trophy j that's the first place trophy second it says second last place yeah that's that's also second place wait second last place well that's the winner yeah winner the winner is second last place yes there's only two competitors so there's last place and then second last no there should be first last place and second last place right uh i'm pretty sure the gold one's the winner well it makes it sound like he's the loser so mine says you lost but at least you're handsome [Laughter] hey look jay i think you're plenty handsome i mean i'm not an expert on the subject so i could be wrong but i think i i tell you what i'm gonna do and i almost have a i almost i'm positive i know exactly which charity that steve is gonna donate to steve i'm gonna match their donation to your charity that'd be awesome that's incredible all right so steve you can't be a dinner you're a loser then i'm just jay well i think i'll probably just go with uh in terms of the charity if that's what you're asking probably cat angels again yeah they're a local cat angels it's like a local uh cat rescue shelter they do really good work that's it's uh all the money goes towards the animals so we like them a lot that's that's the computer just rebooted itself well it sounds like did your system just hardly assist you it just rebooted itself well it sounds like cat angels and our video driver is gone sounds like cat angels is going to be getting about 6 000 us dollars wow which is absolutely that's crazy incredible thank you jay thank you steve thank you austin uh you guys were incredibly generous with your time today i had an absolute blast moderating this uh thanks to intel for sponsoring the event making it possible i think based on how much fun this was this is not gonna be the last thing like this and i hope i can count on you guys whether it's as a moderator or like color commentator or whether it's as a participant i actually oh i i teased something we already have planned so jay and steve i'm sure you guys are going to be in for this but we are planning uh tech purdy so it's going to be like a tech trivia show it's going to be a really healthy mix of hardcore stuff like you know how many pins on this socket from you know 2006 or whatever but then also more general stuff so we've got great categories like uh web 1.0 for example is one of the categories so just like that general awareness of internet culture going back years and years i think it's going to be an absolute ton of fun we're planning it and sometime in the next couple months and i strong-armed intel during this stream to sponsor it because i basically committed them to it and then my producer said that they're not committed and then they were watching apparently and they committed live on stream so we are officially a go on that and there's gonna be cash prizes as well as more charity prizes so it's all for it's all for a good cause and just just for just for good fun and is sort of um another extension of the ltx concept of just kind of bringing together more of the tech community you guys join us for for i think you said you're doing like a cash prize but we don't need it so just send that to the charity too 100 we're done it's done seven thousand dollars total it's in it's all in fantastic so are you guys in for tech pretty absolutely yeah yeah i can definitely show people how much i don't know and that my friends is how you strong-arm both a sponsor and participants live in front of tens of thousands of people that's how you do it the secret to ltd success okay jay you get that water bottle you get that out of here you get that off my stream actually that's a perfect segue into my last plug for ltc store uh what's my uh what's my offer code colton so we're doing free shipping on ltt store.com orders over 45 dollars and the taste like second place uh yeah the coupon code is freeship ltx go now we're gonna turn that coupon code off in the next 15 minutes that's it and enter our giveaway yeah this is the giveaway what giveaway is there we're giving away oh that's right we're giving away these rigs so jay's rig i'll clean it up steve's rig i some lucky winner is gonna get those broken broken down computers and then one luckier winner is gonna get this fully working one built by i think nicholas built it or yeah nicholas on my staff built it so it's all done like reasonably correctly it just needs a little thermal paste mine's working yeah the giveaway details are down in the video description again thank you guys so much this is an absolute blast and go follow all these guys if you're somehow live under a tech rock is steve putting liquid nitrogen in his cup i love it right if you live under a tech rock okay jay's two cents he does everything from computers to water cooling to cars to salt he's got a whole twitter feed dedicated to his salt okay you got steve from gamersnexus these guys do the most hardcore benchmarking outside of like maybe roman maybe roman on youtube you'll give it to roman too steve yeah definitely he's insane he's crazy he's incredible but you're incredible too guys they do
