everett george allen officers and members of this church we welcome you to this our federation and brotherhood fifth sunday service may we have a great time in the lord as we worship him together amen amen let us pray faithful father we begin today by giving you thanks your love endures forever it never fails though there are many ways which we have failed we have not exceeded the supply of your mercy and your grace we thank you for revealing yourself to us through your word as we gather together [Music] to worship you today we pray that you will hear that we will hear your voice may we through the holy spirit be transformed into your likeness through jesus christ we pray amen praise the lord praise the lord praise the lord we are now going to worship the lord by singing our first hymn the first hymn this morning is praise him praise him jesus our blessed redeemer sing o earth his wonderful love proclaim heal him heal him his archangels in glory strength and honor give to his the lord in prayer almighty god we come to you this morning acknowledging you as our great creator as the creator of heaven and earth we thank you this morning oh god that you a god of mercy that you are a god of grace and so lord we bless your holy name this morning that you have gathered us here this morning to worship you i pray for those who are watching on whatever platforms they are that lord you will bless them the lord you will bless each and every one of us so father that lord you will strengthen us and undergird us oh god through your holy spirit to continue oh god to praise and to worship your holy name lord we thank you for your grace and your mercies for your provisions for us each day we thank you that you have never left us alone even when we deserved we deserve to be left alone we thank you god that you are always with us because you have promised in your word that you will never leave us nor not forsake us thank you that you are god of your prom of promises and you're a god who stick by your promises are you never lie and so lord we thank you that you are here with us this morning wherever we are in the world you are here there with us were leading us and directing us father we come to you on behalf of this nation jamaica land we love lord you have said in your word that if my people were called by mining will humble themselves and pray that you will hear from heaven and you will heal our land jamaica needs healing today oh god in fact our world needs healing and so far that we pray that you will come down oh god in your might and your power and deliver also further from what we are experiencing through this great pandemic lord we thank you that you will never leave us that you will never forsake us but lord you will take us through oh god as we continue steadfast in your love and your grace father we pray this morning for those who are in the hospitals oh god have mercy upon them or father especially those who are affected by the coveted 19 virus oh god we pray and ask your mercies we pray that you'll deliver them father that you will heal them oh god we place o father the nurses the doctors before you and we pray and ask that you'll cover them under your blood you'll guide and protect them as they travel to and from the hospitals and as they do their daily tasks oh god i pray that you will cover them that your god will protect them oh god from being affected by this deadly virus oh god we pray for the help health minister have mercy upon him or father lord when we hear him these days we realize oh god that he needs jesus that he needs your guidance he needs your leading and so father this morning we put him in your hands oh god and we pray that he will submit himself his life to you the lord you will lead him and direct him o father lord we are afraid some of us are afraid in certain circles insane that we need jesus that we need you to deliver us and that is only divine intervention that will help us in this time lord give them courage each member of parliament give them the courage to say that we need divine intervention father help us this morning help us we pray oh god because we can turn to know other about you oh god we pray for those who are against taking the vaccine father we pray dear god that you will help them to realize [Music] that lord you have worked through scientists to doctors in the past and you are still enabling them to do your work today father we pray o god that you will give us courage give us strength in this time o god of doubt of uncertainty of distress hand us your mercies o father in the mighty name of jesus lord we pray for families this morning families who are mourning the death of their loved ones oh god i pray that you'll strengthen them father that you'll have mercy upon them oh god and they will you will help them to look to you o god who will guide them who will rescue them who will comfort them o god in their time o god of distress we bless your name this morning that you do not give us what we truly deserve but you o god our god of mercy father we thank you for those of us gathered here today we pray that you will cover us under your blood that you'll guide and protect us our father as we journey back home lord we pray for your man's servant this morning oh god your woman servant as she proclaimed your word sister gene fisher lord we hold her up to you this morning and we pray that you will anoint her from the crown of her head to the soul of her feet oh god and our lord as she stand in this position to proclaim your word you'll undergird her with your strength and you will help her to proclaim thus say the lord we bless you this morning that you are here with us holy spirit of god we welcome you in our midst as we continue to worship and praise oh god in jesus name we pray amen praise the lord praise the lord at this time we call upon our two sisters sisters patricia blake and sister delia brown as they come and give us a special selection amen praise the lord praise the lord [Music] he is my light my strength my soul this corner stone this solid ground [Music] [Music] so please [Music] my comforter my all in all [Music] in christ alone flesh fullness of god in heaven [Music] this gift of love [Music] scorned by the ones he came to save on the cross as jesus died of god was satisfied for every single on him was laid here in the death of christ i [Music] there in the ground his body lay light of the world by darkness lane and bursting forth in [Music] he glorious again and as he stands in victory says [Music] praise the lord praise the lord [Music] praise the lord [Music] praise the lord we turn to our bibles return to the holy scriptures first peter 1 verse 17 to 25 which will be read by our sister anasi wakis amen good morning scripture reading is taken from first peter 1 verses 17 through to 25 i will be reading from the new international version and it reads since you call on a father who judges each man's work impartially live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear for you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers but with the precious blood of christ a lamb without blemish or defect he was chosen before the creation of the world but revealed in these last times for your sake through him you believe in god who raised him from the dead and glorified him and so your faith and hope are in god now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth that you have sincere love for your brothers love one another deeply from the heart for you have been born again not of perishable seed but of imperishable through the living and enduring word of god all men are like grass and all their glory is like the flowers of the field the grass withers and the flowers fall but the word of the lord stands forever and this is the word that was preached to you here in that proportion of god's holy word we utter it by saying thanks be to god praise the lord praise the lord praise the lord we want to thank our two sisters for that lovely rendition and for sister workis in reading lord's word may the lord continue to bless them as they continue to serve him daily amen praise the lord we now turn to our third hymn our third hymn we know welcome our speaker our speaker today is none other than sister gene fisher who is no stranger to us a woman of god a woman who loves the lord let us welcome her by giving her a round of applause [Applause] praise the lord praise the lord we now turn towards heard him i don't have that here bless thy word unto our hearts and glorify thy name [Music] glory five [Music] bless thy word praise the lord we know stand as we sing or third him [Music] we know invite sister jean to come amen oh praise the lord amen thank god for this church thank god for this morning thank god for this opportunity to continue in fellowship in spite of the challenges that we know are surrounding us that are everywhere thank the federation and the brotherhood for this invitation and this opportunity to share with you in this way this morning let us pray father we thank you that your word endures forever you do not change your word does not change and so lord we look to you this morning that in the delivery of this word your name will be glorified heart will be challenged that the holy spirit would convict and convince of the truth and father we ask that those who need to be encouraged those who need to be challenged will find that this is exactly what the holy spirit does within them we give you thanks in jesus name amen the title of this message is let's get real let's get real or if you want a longer version let's get real with god about our faith recently i had an encounter with a passenger someone asked me for a lift and as we traveled i asked him how was he coping with the challenges that kovid was bringing and his answer was a list of the all the things that he saw going wrong and the ways in which he was being affected he was being affected personally of course because although he didn't have coved there were things that the government was implementing that was interfering with his personal agenda and i'm not saying that he was one of those careless ones gallivanting where they should not and when they should not but there were other things that were being affected nationally and he was also disappointed not only in the government but in the response of the people to what the government was saying and doing and then he looked internationally and he saw that there were things happening internationally that he never agree with either and he thought that things were there that really it looked like he said to me it's like a movie it's like a movie that young man i don't think is alone in that kind of reaction job losses or reduced pay you thought you were in a secure job and perhaps covered sickness and sicknesses the death of loved ones and other things have come upon us suddenly and they have stayed with us and right now the covey numbers are getting higher certainly 18 months ago we never saw this coming we couldn't predict it and we can understand that somebody trying to make sense of this situation of this new reality is saying it's like a movie and what i hear them saying what i hear us saying sometimes is that what we are seeing what we are experiencing is as if it's not true i have never seen anything like this happen before how could it be real it's not true it's an uncomfortable place to be and i would like it to be over and to make things worse people are using social media to confuse things they want people to believe a lie there is it's a difficult season and it's made worse because people don't know who to trust they don't know what to expect in this new landscape is it true is it real is what they're saying right we're not sure many people are not sure as christians we don't escape this dilemma but what is to be the christian's response it is good for us to remind ourselves of what is real and true from god's perspective amen the text is one in which peter first peter chapter one in fact the whole book but since we don't have time for the whole book we are looking at that passage that portion from verses 17. to 25 and especially verse 23 but peter is speaking to christians who are in a difficult place they were being persecuted and the faith that they had acquired that had brought with it joy and peace and the working of miracles and the power of god that reality was now being replaced you could say by difficult circumstances as the government of the day said we don't like what you're doing we don't like what you're saying we see you as a threat and you need to stop it and if you don't stop it we are coming after you and they did go after them they did imprison them they did kill many we know all that from history and so for them it was also an unsettling time we are not facing the same kind of challenge but there are some similarities we are not sure what to expect tomorrow we get up in the morning and we turn on the radio to hear what are the latest figures we don't know who we're going to hear next has covered who next has passed on or has had a relative that has passed on and it is unsettling it is a difficult season and it seems unreal how do you cope with reality when this reality is unpleasant when we have things happen to us that seem like you know a very pleasant dream we don't have any problem with that we are on cloud nine but when it is unpleasant when it is difficult it's a challenge peter has some advice for the christians that he's writing to and his advice to them i want to hold up to us this morning as advice to us as well the challenge to us and i just have two main points the first thing is that we must remember that we are born again hallelujah that sounds simple don't it because we know all about born again we know it from john chapter 3 when nicodemus came to jesus at night and want was pinning him some religious argument and jesus look him straight in the face i am sure and said to him nicole get real you have to be born again born again is where it is at because if you're not born again you don't you don't know how to differentiate what is real from unreal if you're not born again things will happen and carry a wide flesh can only understand flesh but people of the spirit can understand both flesh and spirit and when we heard the word when we were in our unsafe state and the word was preached the gospel was preached and it came to us and brought conviction by the holy spirit something happened when we said yes to jesus the holy spirit brought about a change in our lives in our hearts our whole being has been affected because we became born again born again and we must undermine born again you know because it means that we have become a new creature praise god you and i if we are christians we are a new creation that means that we have a new normal it means that what is real to us is not the same as what was real before it doesn't mean that our eyes are shielded from the realities in this life and in this world but it means that there are new realities that are open to us that we did not have before hallelujah and so we as the people of god have access we have access into his presence we have access by his spirit into his word we understand things that we didn't understand before because we are born again we have a new way of understanding reality so that if we are sick we know that it's not just doctor do it is not just bush and it's not just tablet those things can work but we also know that the reality of christ suffering and death for us by his stripes we are healed means that we can have the healing that we desire are you feeling down you don't like how things are going on young people you're at home and you have been away from your friends and from school for so long and you are looking forward or you were looking forward to school in september and no the figures are saying hold on not so soon and you're not sure what is down the road and you are feeling frustrated you're feeling let down and a little depressed do you know that the word of god is true and that by investing time in the word by reflecting on what it says by doing what it says you don't have to remain in that depressed state and you can overcome whatever the enemy throws at you because we have been born again our priorities our ambitions the things that we hold there come from the word of god because that is what he has given us you know he says that we are born again of the word if you look at verse 23 it says you have been born again not of perishable seed but of imperishable that means that it is the word in a sense that gave birth to us and people supposed to look like them parents don't it yes when a man and a woman have a child they are looking to see some imprint of themselves in the child and if it's not them it's their relative sometimes said don't come looking like mother father but when you look upon a picnic man you see your granny you see your auntie your uncle yes and so you know that this one come from this top but when i'm sorry so the word is our parent in that sense because we have been born again god through his holy spirit has given us his word we believe in jesus as lord and savior and so that gives way entrance to our born-again experience and we look like him we must look like him in what we think in what we say in how we understand life and when the challenges are thrown at us how we respond to them must look like what the word says your new reality your new truth must be consistent with your new status praise god yes so that's the first thing we have been born again and because we are born again my second point we have the power to do what the word says you know when it says you have been born again of imperishable seed i think the king james says incorruptible that mean to say it cannot mash up it cannot die it can spoil it not going to wither and can't eat it it is going to be here it is going to endure and because it is going to endure we too are going to endure we can enjoy tough times we can endure challenges and the scripture tells us that we are more than conquerors through him hallelujah that saved us so because we have been born again we have the power to endure great challenges and overcome it is a superior reality to what we had before [Music] you agree with me yes man it is better than what we had before and it is better than anything else that this world has to offer it is an indestructible normal and so it doesn't matter how you feel back down it doesn't matter how you feel like it's not gonna make and you're not gonna make it the word and even those who die in the lord they go to a better reality the scripture says that no we are looking through a glass darkly like one dark dark tint nepal everything but then when we stand before him we are going to see things like how it really go we shall see face to face we were going to see the real thing and so i had an experience i was in a situation in which i was made aware that things were being said about me in a context in which i didn't have any power to influence what was being said added to that the situation that led to that experience was a difficult one for me and when i separated myself from that situation it was after that that i learned about what was being said i felt as if i was being hammered into the ground it was just a sensation it was a weight that was on me because there were many things that i was uncertain of at that time and i felt that i wasn't certain how i was going to proceed how i was going to go forward not going to die or anything like that but it was just a challenge and i felt almost literally as if somebody had something over my head had this thing that the words that were being spoken were trying to hammer me into the ground and i got to a point where i said but but god i am a christian there must be an answer for this what is it lord and that was when i felt directed to this very verse verse 23 for you have been born again not of perishable seed but of imperishable through the living and enduring word of god hallelujah and every time i was reminded of that situation i repeated this first every time i felt the hammering i spoke those words and reminded myself of them and you know brothers and sisters it was just a matter of time and not a long time either that i felt that weird lift and i was delivered from that situation of feeling that i was being hammered into the ground and all i did was to affirm the truth was to affirm what was real yes things were being said that i didn't have any control over and no they were not true but i didn't have the power the ability to convince people of it so i had to leave it with god and leave it with the word of god and by affirming the word things were made right and so i want to say to us you know there's a verse in galatians in which paul speaking to the galatians who had learned they had become saved they had become filled with the spirit and then they wanted to go back to do certain things like keeping the law to put their hope and their faith in keeping the law rather than in christ rather than in the power of the holy spirit rather than trusting in what the holy spirit had done in them and so paul says to them oh no crazy man people get real having been born again of the spirit are you not going to be made perfect by doing things in your flesh and so i want to borrow that same idea and say to us this day or ask us having begun by being made incorruptible through the incorruptible word of god by being made spirit through the incorruptible word of god can we now look to any other source to guide us to know what is true and what is real and how to behave and how to respond in the midst of challenges can we look anywhere else you see the challenge is that the world does not believe what we believe and because we have to live in the world it is possible that sometimes we can't forget that sometimes we slip up that sometimes we are convinced by what we hear people saying around us by what we see them doing and when we hear them laughing at us because of what we believe we get shaky and we start to wonder if i saw it really go and if this is what we're really supposed to believe but i challenge us this morning to hold on in faith to what is superior praise the lord the scriptures are full of the affirmation that the word of god will never die heaven on earth will pass away but the word will never pass away the word the word is what we need to live by and guess what because we believe in the word and because we hold on to the word we are challenged known to go on to do what the word say we must do amen i don't bring any new gospel this morning in this church we hear it but the scripture jesus said to his disciples these signs will follow those that believe you remember what he said man you're going to do all kind of things including heal the sick including raise the dead including deliver people who are being tormented by evil spirits is that our reality because i don't think that it is intended that it should be something exceptional something that happens once in a blue moon because special people are those doing the ministry it must be for all of us all of us must hold on to that kind of reality we must affirm that this is what we have been called to do and especially can you think of a better time my brothers and sisters for us to begin to get real with god and to do what god has really called us to do do we remember ourselves group confessions is there a better time for us to begin to live to believe to act to love the way the word says that we should times are difficult now and we don't know what is tomorrow but we have the word amen and the word is our assurance the word is our insurance that it will be well with us that even when we face challenges the challenge is not sufficient to do us in because we are in the world is indestructible and the word is in us feeding us making us new hallelujah for the word of god is living it is active it is powerful it is sharper than not too easy and it is at work in us who believe but we can just say we believe we have to constantly be in faith before our god and i'm not saying these things just in case anybody should would begin to think that i'm um you know because we believe in god we don't have to take the vaccine no that is not where i'm going at all i have received my vaccine and i encourage you to do the same if you have not yet done so but it is about believing god because so much has been said in the scripture so much has been done in the past in the early church and i believe that in these last days god does not intend for the church to be any less powerful than it was at the start in fact we are in such need that we need that power we need for god's word to be on our inside for his holy spirit to affirm in us and through us what he has said do you today know what god is calling you to do other than what you are already doing in order that you might demonstrate his life and his power and his word at work in you and through you god has a purpose for each one of us and that is what we are called to live out praise the lord you know i came into church this morning and they the car park was so empty i came into the building and people looking at me and not recognizing me and sister journey you believe that and me looking at people and not recognizing them can you believe that it's a honesty wow this is a normal that we don't need we don't need and so while it is with us we're going to do what we have to do we're going to observe the protocols we're going to cooperate with all that has been said by the authorities but we are also going to hold on in faith for the end of this condition the end of this situation and if people feel that this is not possible then we can know that through the word of god the impossible can be done it's not true that we shall speak to mountains and command them to be thrown into this sea and to become a plane and whatever we ask for we can pray the prayer of agreement and we can live we don't even have to be in the same place thank god for cellphone and what's happened all the rest of it prayers of agreement that bring us into union with the word of god and god says that if we believe it we shall receive it sometimes we have to wait for it but that is the word of god and when we have to wait you know ephesians tell us as i close that when we have done everything else you know put on your armor man gird up yourself we don't have any real metal armor but what we have as we affirm the word of god the helmet of salvation the breastplate of righteousness the belt of truth hello the sword of the spirit our feet shod with the readiness to tell others this is our reality it must become our reality and as we wear this armor going to face every challenge we do that until we can do it no more the scripture says do it and still stand up and when you have done everything else still stand still stand brothers and sisters this is our mandate this is our reality and we give god all the glory and the praise in jesus name amen praise the lord praise the lord praise the lord what a word amen praise the lord our sister reminds us that it is important that we remember that we are born again as christians we are the ones who have the new normal and by this because of this we have the new truth and the power to do what the word of god says [Music] oh i was [Music] [Music] [Applause] the music of thy voice [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thy words lord i was done i could not speak the praise and glory of thy name but now [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] i like the soul to come [Music] i rise from sins [Music] [Music] and the chains of my county
